Medu Netcher was the writing language of Ancient Kemet. It features symbols and pictures to express thought and to give precise meanings to what was being expressed. This ancient writing was for the most part undecipherable by modern scholars until the Rosetta Stone was found around July 19, 1799 by a French Soldier near the town of Rosetta. This stone featured three different languages on it aligned in three columns. The Medu Netcher on the top, Demotic (a late cursive form of Medu Netcher) in the middle and Greek at the bottom. With this discovery the long lost and forgotten language of Kemet could be deciphered! The Greek name for the Medu Netcher language is Hieroglyphics. The Rosetta stone is currently housed in the British Museum.
