Your gifset about road to Eldorado makes me think of apocalypto (2006) and it has most of the same issues. I had to watch it for my class on depictions of indigenous people in film when I was minoring in Native American Studies and oof. It was a hard one to watch for so many reasons, no least of which were the racism and general bullshit but just how violent the movie was as well. But it's a Mel Gibson movie so I mean, is any surprised?

But the class itself was interesting and exhausting because it was mostly.white students and like 3 ndn students, myself included debating the depictions of natives in media.

(I think this was also the same class in which a white student told me that if someone doesnt have native DNA on a genetic test like ancestry then they arent native. The professor who was native shut that down but yikes)

Anyway bless you for doing the Creator's work and putting down the bullshit you get for telling the truth

So many Indigenous studies classes too can be so tedious for the above reasons like ugh. The White students never seem to take racism discussions seriously half the time & say shit like "Well, I didn't think it was racist". One time a White student stood up for a racist white character in a short story we read & said they didn't think the racist character was racist, even though that was the entire plot & point of the short story? Yikes. Im sorry you had to deal with that!

Mel Gibson is like the antichrist of historical films, because of how badly he fucks up the history. Its to the point that it might as well be alternative history films or historical fantasy because of how much he changes. But with Apolcalypto specifically, a lot of people think it must be really authentic because 1. The use of Yucatec Maya throughout the film 2. People not really knowing about Native history, & 3. People not being able to tell the difference between the Maya & the Mexica.

One of the things I hate most about Apocalypto is even shown at the beginning of the movie where the quote sets the tone for the rest of the movie that basically implies that it was Indigenous people's own fault for being colonized. Aside from this being already stupid & racist, it's wrong because he seems to be suggesting the end of the classic Maya collapse, which happened like 600 years before the arrival of the Spanish, so those two things are NOT related at all & can't be used to justify colonization??

The film is really wishy washy about what time period it's supposed to be given the influences (like there's Post-Classic hairstyles mixed in with Classic period hairstyles, some of the art looks PRECLASSIC Maya, & a bunch of other plotpoints that point to various time periods). Apocalypto does NOT get enough flack for its dumb depiction of the Maya, and Mel Gibson is an idiot.

And thank you :) I hope Road to El Dorado gets some needed hate & criticism for how it handled Native people because it is WAY too beloved considering its racism.

During my drivers Ed class I was curious on something from Cars 2!

During the interview from the Mel Dorado show with Francesco he mentioned that he can go over 300 kilometers per hour insisting he’s way faster then Lightning. I chose to check that for myself. In my chemistry class we are currently learning about Unit conversions of Volume, Mass, Length so I chose to apply it here!

Here’s my work! I chose to do this for fun! Concerning kilometers to miles lead me to my work ending with a result of:

300 Kilometers per hour = 186 Miles per hour

And from Cars 3 I believe Lightning’s top speed is 196-198 Miles per hour

Which means Lightning is the faster one on the race track!

Capítulo 2

La cena y la alianza

Tras los eventos del árbol y ya ambos viendo que oscurecía, Melody le dijo que le debía algo ya que casi los mata a ambos, Shiva le reclamo al creer que la discusión ya había acabado, aunque al menos puede pagarle de alguna forma, así que Melody decide obligarlo a invitarla a una cena en el pueblo, al principio Shiva se opuso ya que como tal no tenía mucho dinero más que el que Cupa le había dado para sobrevivir, pero el al ser alguien que nunca le gustaba tener deudas con la gente, y viendo que de una manera ella le salvo la vida, termina aceptando.

Ambos bajan al pueblo y ven una cafetería que aún estaba abierta, la misma se encontraba vacía a excepción de la cajera y el cocinero, así que deciden pasar y toman asiento. Una vez toman su orden y esperan, Melody le preguntó a qué se refería con Chak y el imperio dorado, ya que ella nunca había oído hablar de esas cosas, ya que tenían más calma y seguridad, Shiva empieza a contarle lo básico del imperio y de su propia naturaleza, así mismo le da las mismas pruebas que le dio a Cupa para probar que venía de ahí, sin contar claro, el peligro que se avecinaba, Melody no entendía mucho, pero le resultaba gracioso de cierta forma lo que el decía, fue hasta que Shiva le menciono a Cupa, que ella ya le creyó, ya que ella la conocía y sabía que no era el tipo de persona que se cree cualquier tontería.

Una vez comieron, fueron a la casa de Melody, la cual al ver que Shiva no tenía ni un lugar donde quedarse, de mala manera termina ofreciéndole vivir en su casa un tiempo si ayuda con cosas como el oficio, la cocina y demás, Shiva acepta todo ya que no era nada que el no supiera de antes, así que termina pasando su primera noche desde que llegó a Simul en un hogar medianamente cálido y sano.

Al día siguiente, mientras Shiva se encargaba de la limpieza, Melody sale y se topa a Aram, el gemelo de Cupa con quien conversa sobre Shiva y como era un idiota que al menos le podría servir para sirviente, ahí Aram lo reconoce como el ex guardián del imperio ya que Cupa le contó de el, el mismo le confirmó a Cupa que el se dio la tarea de investigar y vio que en efecto, algo raro pasaba en el imperio y en verdad destereaorn a Shiva, pero ni siquiera sabía la razón del porqué querían exterminar el universo. Todo eso termina convenciendo a Melody de que Shiva no mentía

Luego de sus quehaceres en casa de Melody, Shiva solía diambular en la ciudad para concentrar sus pensamientos en tenrinarl el plan del libro y fue en una de esas salidas, donde conoce a Mel, una amiga de las primeras amigas de Melody en el pueblo la cual era mucho más amargada y menos sociable que Melody, ella lo llamaba loco y Shiva trataba de justicarse argumentando su razón de estar ahí, sin embargo ella ya sabía todo, ya que los trillizos de Cupa, Aram y Jeff le habían contado de él pero le decía que ni sabía porque se interesaba tanto por un universo que ni era suyo, Shiva quería justificarse, pero notaba como ella no estaba realmente bien emocionalmente, es ahí donde Melody los encuentra y se lleva a Shiva a cada, le dije que mejor deje a Mel sola, ya que ella misma estaba deprimida debido a que había salido de una relación tóxica con un tipo llamado Fnk, del cual no valía la pena hablar según ella, al oír eso, Shiva va con Mel a tratar de aconsejarla y conocerla mejor, al menos para intentar ayudarla y conocerla mejor, sin embargo ella lo amenaza de muerte apuntando a su cara con dos dedos que soltaban humo negro, de nuevo Melody los termina separando y le da un sape a Shiva por insistente, ya que ella sabía que Mel era alguien que no aceptaba ayuda de nadie, y mucho menos de en sus palabras "idiotas de muy muy lejano que todo quieren arreglar a palabras".

Ya al día siguiente, el va al bosque a tratar de buscar ideas en paz y completo silencio estudiar mejor los planes, se fue sin avisar a Melody, ya que él quería completa soledad, sin embargo ella sabía que él planeaba algo así que fue a seguirlo sin que el se enterara. Shiva al llegar a un lugar junto a un río entre los árboles el cual el vio como un lugar perfecto, antes de acomodarse, oía algo moverse entre los árboles, el de una pensó que era un animal, hasta que oyó una voz sumamente familiar que lo alertó al instante, la voz le preguntó "ahora en qué problemas te metiste Shiva?" al instante se puso en guardia y guardo el libro en su chaqueta, fue ahí donde miró hacia arriba, y descubrió que era una antigua compañera del imperio dorado, la cual de seguro enviaron a por el, ella era Sati

Abrojos – IV

En el siguiente poema, Rubén Darío señala la paradoja del poeta, que entrega sus riquezas al mundo (o un mundo de riquezas) por medio de su arte y, sin embargo, su suerte es la de los pobres de la Tierra. De bellezas viste al mundo el poeta, mientras lo desnuda la necesidad. No hay parangón entre el sacrificio creador y la gratificación, pero el poeta ni siquiera procura que así sea. La desmesura es su carácter, toda vez que la poesía es su vocación, la voz del mandato interior que lo subyuga. Allí la paradoja. El poema fue incluido en el libro Abrojos, publicado en Chile en 1887.
