'lets hang out' they'd said, 'lets go ice skating and beat the heat' they'd said and naturally, at thadd's party, beer bottle in hand, milo had said yeah, why not. sounds like a great idea.

"could you maybe slow the hell down?" he grumbles, gripping the railing of the rink tight. his legs shook like bambi, the skates on his feet less than reliable with him at the helm and god, milo thought he might've been too afraid to look up if it wasn't for the giggling aimed in his direction that definitely wasn't a laugh along with him kind of scenario he'd hope for. "ya know people lose their fingers on these things?"

with meowcolm sprawled out next to the truck beside him, milo sits on his heels, eyeballing his brand new flat tire with a fury kept solely for the piece of junk he still hung on to. having worked with his dad under the impression that one day he too would become a mechanic, milo knows his truck is at its wits end, regardless of the denial he held for it. this last piece of home and his father he refused to let go of. this one connection to the long lost.

only now, he wants to beat it with a hammer, and he’s half tempted to as he calculates just how much a new tire would be. 

“ya know, meowcolm, i blame you. you and you’re fuckin’ fussy appetite. if you’d just eat the damn catfood instead of wantin’ tuna all the fuckin’ time, i wouldn’t have needed to go out, would i? but oh no, mr meowcolm wants his fuckin’ fish, doesn’t he?” milo curses, reaching out to pet the ancient and old ginger cat on the head. “ya little bastard… i love you, though. but fuck you.”

it’s only when he looks up that milo realises his company had double from one to two, and a neighbour within the apartment complex now stood next to the truck. and thankfully? it wasn’t a grumpy as fuck aiden.

“not you, wes. i meant meowcolm. unless you’re about to tell me it’s two tires popped, not one…”
