i am the danger
You’re a regular office worker born with the ability to “see” how dangerous a person is with a number scale of 1-10 above their heads. A toddler would be a 1, while a skilled soldier with a firearm may score a 7. Today, you notice the reserved new guy at the office measures a 10.

In your general appreciation of nature, I am curious about your take on this - do you believe nature has reached "peak complexity"?
There was a time without flying animals. There was a time without land animals. There was a time without vertebrates, without segmented exoskeletons, without fur, without feathers, without complex social structures, without eyes. There was a time without plants, or any kind of photosythesis. There was a time without multicellular life.
But at this point, do you feel nature on planet Earth has evolved all "milestones" there are (and from now on, all additional complexity will have come from civilization, one way or another)?
I mean in terms of potential, assuming for a moment "nature" of some kind still exist during the next billion years or so.
Yes or No would be enough (lol), but of course spec evo ideas would be even cooler!
Nah I think there's absolutely infinite things nature could evolve some day that we can't even imagine. You really never know. Like it's 100% biochemically possible for something to "breathe fire;" there just has to be a sequence of mutations and the right competition to gradually make it happen, possibly starting with something that sprays boiling hot compounds like a bombardier beetle. I could also imagine a whole class of animals evolving like the modular people from All Tomorrows, because we already have Siphonophores. It's just a matter of something evolving to be a colony that can also come apart and keep functioning. I'm also obviously obsessed with the concept of a creature that weaponizes its own little symbiotic bugs, since I've used that a million times. Like maybe millions of years from now, a descendant of sloths will have upgraded from being full of moths to being full of tiny wasps? And then what if that's so effective they actually start diversifying like crazy and there's a whole era dominated by mammaloid wasp nest beasts ranging from grazers merely cleaned and guarded by their insects to predators who hunt with their assistance. Plant/animal physical symbiosis is also another thing that's not really taken off outside a few insects. Why shouldn't a plant some day decide it likes growing on some kind of animal's body? It's not a plant, but lichens grow on a species of weevil. It's so rare there aren't even photos, but I swear I saw video of one on BBC when I was a kid:
Tumblr media
What if a moss adapts just to the shell of some big reptile and eventually the reptile starts to derive sustenance from it too?? Over time what if this evolves into basically real life Bulbasaurs, where the animal part can be sustained off sunlight? It'd just have to slow its animal metablism way, waaay down to meet the plant halfway. Maybe it hibernates for years and years at a time or spends decades developing like a cicada and then it emerges in pure mating mode, using up all the food it conserved as its flower finally blooms. I know most of my examples are now elaborations on something that's kind of almost already begun happening somewhere but you get the idea. Furthermore you never know if all life as we know it will die out one day while there's still a couple billion years left of the planet's physical existence. Then a whole new line of life could evolve that we can't conceive of at all, from the ground up. Like crystalline mineral trees that start talking to each other with laser light. Or maybe only bacteria are left but for some reason bacteria develop what they need to start sticking together and building a new kind of multicellular organism. What the heck would an equivalent to "animals" look like if the ancestor was a bacterium????? Holy fuck I'm mad I won't see it. Fuming and seething actually. This is the worst thing ever. Why am I doomed to die on regular animal planet with google bots and disney remakes. I wanna see salmonella animal planet. It's not fair.

My friend and I did a tera raid with a Metang in it. He's naming it 'Metable'. And proceeding to put it in the box.
While pokemon are fine to be in PC boxes for a short time, leaving them in for longer than a few days to a week is incredibly stressful for the pokemon upon being withdrawn from the box. The sudden realization of the passage of a great amount of time is traumatizing for many pokemon, and with a highly intelligent pokemon like Metang it will most certain come to resent you.
If you cannot care for a pokemon, the best thing you can do for it is to trade it to someone who can, or surrender it to a pokemon centre or Ranger base so that they may release it into the wild properly. Keeping pokemon in PC boxes for extended periods of time is cruel.

¶ … Doctor Determine Treatment for a Diagnosis of Hereditary Fructose Intolerance: Explain how enzymes are involved in processes such as the breakdown of fructose. The enzymes work as a lock and key process where the relevetn active part of the enzyme fits into the substrate (i.e. The molecule on which the enzyme acts) and activates it. There are various active sites on the enzyme and only the enzyme that will 'fit' in the substrate will work. After part of enzyme matching with substrate, enzyme breaks down substrate into two smaller products. The following image illustrates: (adapted from http://waynesword.palomar.edu/molecu1.htm) At times the process can be blocked by an impediment that stops the 'key' from 'turning, as happens in the case of a lack in aldolase B. which can prompt hereditary fructose intolerance Explain how a deficiency in aldolase B. can be responsible for hereditary fructose intolerance. Hereditary fructose intolerance is a disease that disable the individual from consuming sugar fructose. Hereditary fructose intolerance is characterized an autosomal recessive pattern, where each parent of the victim carries a recessive copy of the gene (i..e gene is there but it only comes out in carrier; it is recessive in parent). The ALDOB gene provides instructions for making the aldolase B. enzyme. This enzyme largely exists in the liver and defuses (i.e. metablizes) the fructose / sugar which is in turn used for energy. The ALDOB gene serves as impediment on enzyme lock and key system in that it prevents the enzyme from effectively tuning into and turning substrate and hinders the ability of the enzyme to metabolize sugar. The lack of healthy aldolase B. results in a mass of fructose phosphates accumulating in the liver which subsequently results in death of liver cells. The weakened operations of the aldolase B. enzyme also produces less dihydroxyacetone phosphate which results in fewer phosphates in the body and also harms the body since altogether, destruction of liver cells and reduced phosphates cause hypoglycemia, liver dysfunction, and other factors of hereditary fructose intolerance. (Genetics Home Ref. Hereditary fructose intolerance http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition/hereditary-fructose-intolerance) 3. Provide clearly labeled diagrams to demonstrate: a. Diagram lock and key models of enzymatic activity. b. Diagram the effect of enzymes on activation energy. 4. With temperature, pressure, concentration, and/or surface area of enzyme increased, the activation energy of the substrate is heightened / intensified. The diagram (retrieved form BioChem Notes http://as-bio-and-chem.blogspot.com/2010/09/recapping-rates-of-reaction-kinetics.html) shows how the peak of activation intensifies impact of product. 4. Discuss the specific substrate acted on by aldolase B. Aldolese B. metabolizes the glycolytic-gluconeogenic pathway. More specifically, it metabolizes the breakdown of F1P into glyceraldehyde and DHAP (Cross NC, de Franchis R, Sebastio G, et al. (1990). 5. Explain the role of aldolase B. In the breakdown of fructose. Hereditary fructose intolerance http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition/hereditary-fructose-intolerance) A. Case 2 - The doctor suspects mitochondrial disease which can occur at multiple levels in different mitochondrial processes. To help the doctor determine where the defect might have occurred: 1. Explain what would happen to the amount of energy available to a cell if the entire Cori cycle occurred and remained within that single cell (i.e., a muscle cell). The Cori cycle refers to the metabolic pathway where lactate created by anaerobic glycolysis in the muscles flows to the liver and is converted to glucose, which once again is absorbed by the muscles and is converted back to lactate. The other half of the Cori cycle occurs where, instead of lactate produced by anaerobic fermentation massing UP inside the muscle cells, the lactate is transferred to the liver where gluconeogenesis occurs. Gluconeogenesis converts lactate into glucose (is supplied to the muscles through the bloodstream) by converting the glucose first into pyruvate. The Cori cycle needs multiple cells for its effectiveness. If it were limited / confined to one cell, the entire process would fail. 2. Construct a dynamic diagram to show the doctor why the citric acid cycle is central to aerobic metabolism. Note: A dynamic diagram should be clearly labeled and include arrows to show movement and interactions. The citric acid cycle is the first stage in metabolism which consists of removing high-energy electrons from carbon fuels (left). Those electrons then generate a steep proton high (middle), which creates adenosine triphosphate (ATP )(right). The two together (the entire process / synthesis) creates aerobic metabolism (Berg JM, Tymoczko JL, Stryer L. (2002)). 3. Explain where in the citric acid cycle a hypothetical defect of an enzyme could occur that prevents an increase in adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production in response to an increased energy need and how the products of the citric acid cycle are converted into ATP. The citric acid cycle generates electrons from carbon fuels. ATP is created by the citric acid cycle extracting the electrons from the coenzyme CoA and using these electrons to create and synthesize NADH and FADH2. electrons released in the reoxidation of NADH and FADH2 flow through a series of membrane proteins which then flow through the ATP pathway to produce ATP from ADP and from the non-organic phosphate. The hypothetical defect of the enzyme would come about in electrons released by NADH and FADH2.( Berg JM, Tymoczko JL, Stryer L. (2002) 4. Explain the role of coenzyme Q10 in ATP synthesis as part of the electron transport chain. Coenzyme Q. carries the electrons to the cytochrome bc1 pathway which also breaks down enzymes into fructose and energy via metabolism and generates 95% of the body's energy in the form of ATP. Since the molecule can exist in both a completely reduced and oxidized form, it can perform both functions simultaneously. (Huntington's Disease Outreach Project for Education at Stanford) Sources Berg JM, Tymoczko JL, Stryer L. (2002) Biochemistry. 5th edition. The urge to engage in more Twilight Vampire Speculative Biology descends upon me.
I get the impression this would be viscerally unpleasant for a Twilight vampire, because of their increased reliance on their sense of smell. Blood down into the lungs means the scent of blood in the airways either until you can flush it out or until it goes stale. In the case that it is human blood, it may be difficult for an untrained vampire to repress the feeding frenzy with blood in their lungs, and even animal blood is likely to be at the very least distracting, especially if a vampire is attempting to go longer than 4-5 days without feeding, the point at which I imagine they are not yet thirsty, but "could eat", in the way a snack is significantly more appealing an hour or so after eating a meal. Given this negative outcome, how would a vampire clear their lungs of fluid in the event of a "wrong pipe" incident?
Vampire biology i unclear on exactly how well the body assimilates fluids. While humans can get rid of small amounts of fluid in the lungs very naturally, with just natural rhythms of the body, vampires have shut down just about all of them, to the point where they can no longer pass or assimilate solids, and must regurgitate them upon consumption.
In the case that lung tissue is comparable to stomach tissue at assimilating blood, it would take on my estimation on the order of hours to clear the airways of the lingering scent of blood, without external intervention. In the case that it can naturally remove fluids at a different pace, perhaps non-metabolically, I expect it would either be notably faster or notable slower, depending on the mechanism. If there is some sort of mechanical action that helps any fluid migrate to the stomach to be metablized, it would be faster, but if it relied on passive diffusion, even small amounts would linger for similar time as it would on the surface of a cold rock in the shade, which is to day, not forever, but a long time.
In the case that only the stomach and olfactory glands remain permeable, and the lungs are entirely crystalized like the rest of the dermis, the only option would be to remove the blood by some deliberate method, or allow it to go stale and rancid within the lungs (no good very bad not an option). These methods would also potentially be usable in the above case, if it were desirable to clear the lungs faster.
Because of the dynamics of transformation, it seems obvious that venom is capable of transforming blood into more venom, which is then perfectly capable of suffusing vampire tissues, and which has little distracting scent to the vampire that produced it. In this case, flushing the lungs with venom would be an effective way to quickly remove any blood. This could either be possible by some automatic method, requiring no particular planning on the vampire's part, or could require the vampire deliberately inhaling their own venom, or perhaps mechanically injecting it. These latter two options would likely primarily be avaiable to modern vampires, in the same way the direct-to-the-heart venom injection Edward employed was at the time novel.
Finally, it may be possible for vampires to lung-vomit, to contract the lungs in a more complete way than our more flexible and compresssible tissues, forcing any blood into at least the throat, where it can then be swallowed.
wonder if vampires swallow blood wrong sometimes. like yeah they don't need to breathe but it's still gonna suck innit? like they're getting their lil drinky on and want to deliver a devastating one liner to their victim so they pull away and half choke on a mouthful of blood. id turn to dust on the spot. i'd set myself on fire. i'd go to coffin and not leave for a decade.
