I was just teminded of one of the reasons I adore Jim Raynor. There's this scene in Liberty's Crusade (on Antiga Prime, I think) where Jim makes what he thinks is an offhanded, gallows humor-y comment about Sarah being a telepath. Mike immediately springs to her defense and lays into him, telling Jim, "That's enough!" Jim doesn't get defensive, he takes a second to get a better read on Kerrigan and realizes he was in the wrong.
And then he apologizes.
Jim Raynor is probably the best man Blizzard ever produced. He is kind, forgiving, and admits when he is wrong. Everyone could stand to be a little more like Jim.
There are many lines from Liberty's Crusade, a starcraft novel novelizing most of the Terran Campaign from SC1 from the POV of reporter Michael Liberty.
But one of my favorite is about Mengsk's declaration of the end of the Confederacy. I don't have the book with me right now, but the line is something like:
"He pronounced that the Confederacy had died of Zerg Poisoning compounded by Protoss trauma. That his fingerprints were all over the murder weapon was ignored. It wasn't something the networks were reporting on at that point."
Here's Gabe! Sorry to everyone who's expecting him to be a sweetheart. Not all archangels are nice. I want at least one dipshit. I chose Gabe because him being the representative of God's will would clash nicely with Lucifer's whole free will shtick. Also i'd like to use him to explore what can happen when one person is treated as the official mouthpiece of God and everything he says is God's word just because he says so.
thinking about how difficult it must have been for Rachel Fawcette [Hamilton] to leave her firstborn behind in order to safely remove herself from Lavien's house. how much it must have eaten her up inside and how there was nothing she could do because her husband owned her and he owned their son and he owned everything that was hers and if she stayed, there's no telling what could have happened to her. And she lost her firstborn son over it, fuck the rest of everything she lost and how people treated her, she had no claims to her son who clearly grew up to resent her for what she, if we think critically for a moment and look at the context and the subtext and hey, let's face it, the TEXT, likely had to do. how women were constantly pitted in the most volatile of situations in those days and how she did the difficult thing and saved herself.
but yeah sure let's reduce her to Whore because that is so much more impactful through a modern lens, like sure let's give her disgusting husband, and every other fucking man throughout history, the glory of successfully making the women they hurt out to be cheating whores. let's tell her son's story by calling his mother a whore every other fuckin song. let's act like "son of a whore" at the end of all things is more of an insult to him than it is to his mother, the so-called whore who clearly had it so bad at Lavien's that she fucking left. do we not realize that by reducing her to that, we let Johann Michael Lavien fucking WIN? i'm sick. so fucking sick to my stomach I hate it here
There was some interest in Valentine’s Day event, so here we go again!
Sign up and wish for a gift.
Make a gift and keep it a secret.
Post your gift and get a gift on Valentine's day!
Simple enough!
Theme: romance and smut. This means that people over 18 can wish for nsfw gifts and people over 18 can choose to make them. That is why your age is asked in the sign up form.
This is a good time for all your fluffy, romantic, soft, cute, or sexy prompts. You can also leave other kinds of prompts if you want. Platonic love definitely counts! Themes so heavy that they could make people uncomfortable are not allowed. Always ask if you’re unsure! You will be contacted if there’s a problem with the matchmaking or your prompts, so be sure to leave the correct information on your social medias.
You can ask for gifts about any GTA games or even your original characters, but make sure the prompt is very clear on what you want. Leaving many different kinds of prompts is preferable! The mod will do their best to match up everyone so that there is representation for as many games as possible.
You can join by filling in this form. It will only be available until January 19, so be quick (but read the form carefully)! By the end of next week, you will receive the information about the person you’re going to gift your work. Then you will have until Valentine’s Day, three weeks, to work on your gift.
The moderator will ask you for progress a couple of times before the deadline to make sure that everyone gets their gift. If there are any problems and you can’t participate any longer, contact the mod ASAP and be honest. We’ve had a few issues with this before, and I hope it won’t repeat again. If you’re unsure if you can finish a gift in three weeks, think twice before signing up.
That’s about it! Feel free to reblog this post and hopefully, we get a lot of participants again!
Side Character Interactions / Behind The Scenes of Camp Half-Blood
• Will is friends/acquaintances with pretty much the entirety of camp, but is closest to Cecil and Lou Ellen. The next in the circle is Clarisse, Castor (before the BotL), and Mark (the son of Ares).
• The Hermes Cabin is the place to go for year-rounders to get "out-of-camp" items. (Fidget spinners, mortal toys, etc)
• There is a "secret" betting pool that the Aphrodite cabin has going on when campers and their mutual crushes will get together. (Percabeth (canonically), etc)
• Clarisse helped train Will in using a dagger before the Battle of Manhatten at his request due to him not feeling like he was as good with a bow + being a combat medic.
Connor to Will before he is claimed: Don't worry, we will teach you all you need to know about being a Hermes kid
Lee, walking up behind them from a long infirmary shift: Absolutely not. Will, how about you come with me and we can get some hot chocolate?
Clarisse: That has got to be the dumbest thing I've heard all day!
Silena: Clarisse, please calm down...it's only breakfast, there's still plenty of time.
Mitchell: What the Hades is going on in here?
Cecil and Travis attempting to do basic make up for Connor (and failing): ...
Cecil: Surprise!
Connor: Gods, I should've asked someone else for help
Michael: You look like shit
Lee: I'm running on 3 cups of black coffee and spite.
Michael: GO TO SLEEP, LEE HYACINTH FLETCHER
Chiron: I'm glad at least your cabin doesn't cause many problems.
Beckendorf: Uh..yeah..about that. It may or may not have caught fire earlier, but it's alright because we put it out.
Chiron: How did you manage that?
Beckendorf: We got the Hermes kids to help, so we still have half of a cabin at least
I can definitely make another part of this if anyone wants, feel free to ask and request ships (I make no guarantees.) I did hint at like 2 of them in this though! If you have any duos/ideas feel free to also send them my way as well, I love seeing them and I want to be on Tumblr more anyways. Have a nice day, y'all!
A federal court judge has ruled that parents in Ohio don’t have the right to challenge a trans-inclusive school bathroom policy.
A case brought by parents and students in the Bethel Local School District (BLSD) in November sought to prohibit trans and non-binary students in the region from using toilets and other facilities consistent with their gender identity.
But, in a ruling issued on Monday (7 August), Judge Michael Newman decreed that the accusations brought by the group did not “pass legal muster” to warrant further consideration.
“Not every contentious debate concerning matters of public importance presents a cognisable federal lawsuit,” Newman wrote in his ruling opinion.
During a school board meeting in January 2022, BLSD announced it had implemented policies allowing transgender students to use communal toilets consistent with their gender identity.
Several months later, a group of parents filed a legal challenge, arguing that their parental rights were being infringed upon by not having a public meeting to discuss the matter.
They further argued that a previous policy, which had no protections for trans students, did not violate Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which states that no person in the US shall exclude or discriminate against students on the basis of sex.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Ohio argued that the plaintiffs lacked standing for the Title IX claim and that citing parental rights did not immediately require the school to adhere to the group’s demands.
Dismissing the case, Newman wrote that parents do not have a “constitutional right” to revoke school policies on toilet usage.
ACLU Ohio deputy legal director, David Carey, said the ruling reaffirmed that the Constitution is not a vehicle to “compel discrimination.”
He explained: “Nothing in the constitutional guarantees of parenting rights, equal protection or free exercise of religion, mandates that transgender students be excluded from gender-appropriate communal restrooms on the basis of their classmates’ beliefs and values.”
“For public schools to function, one student’s or family’s religious beliefs cannot provide a basis to exclude another student from full participation in the school environment.”
In its legal intervention arguments, the ACLU wrote that it believed the public has a “strong interest” in advancing policies that affirmatively protect transgender students and create inclusive school environments.
The LGBTQ & HIV Project staff attorney at the ACLU, Malita Picasso, said the court’s decision made it “resoundingly clear” that the rights of trans students are “not in conflict” with the rights of their peers.
“No student should have to fear discriminatory treatment every morning they walk into school, and this ruling brings us closer to the day no transgender student has to,” she added.
I’m not tech savvy enough to know how to turn things into a gif, but Alda sees his muffin top in the mirror, squishes it and then decides to cover it up with his boxers. Very funny scene, sorry I can’t post the gif.
How And Why We're Getting "Christian Reconstructed" Out Of Civil Society: An LGBTQ+ Activist's Guide To Action
This is based on my response to a recent Reddit post about the New Apostolic Reformation/Dominionist/Christian Reconstructionist political movement that's behind anti-trans, anti-drag, anti-LGBTQ+ laws, parental rights, systematic destruction of libraries, book bans, harassment of librarians and teachers, the "don't say gay" movement, the 303 Creative Supreme Court "right to discriminate" decision, school board takeovers, curriculum cleansing, the antics of Roger Stone and General Flynn, and every other damn thing that's making our lives hell in America. Here's how to understand the whole toxic mess so we can fight these jackals off, protect ourselves, claw back our rights, and put this movement down for good.
7 Mountains: Gotta Catch 'Em All!
"There's no reasoning with these people and their cultish beliefs," many people are saying, and I think it helps to understand the source of those beliefs in order to fight effectively against the tide of hatred that is on the brink of destroying what's left of our rights and freedoms in this country.
I grew up Fundamentalist Evangelical in the 1960s and 70s. Looking back, the seeds of today's poison were being planted even then in ways that were subtly but unmistakably aligned with the New Apostolic Reformation ("NAR"), the movement based on Dominionist "7 Mountains" Christian nationalism that's the driving force behind Moms for Liberty, Gen. Flynn and Roger Stone, the Alliance Defending Freedom (the org that brought the anti-LGBTQ+ web designer to the Supreme Court), Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA, the GOP candidate for Governor of Pennsylvania last election cycle (Mastriano), and more. (Check out Jennifer Cohn, jennycohn1 on Twitter, a journalist whose coverage of Christian Nationalism is amazing and essential.)
Evangelical involvement in politics was minimal until the rise of Ronald Reagan, Jerry Falwell, and the "Moral Majority" in 1981. In the 42 years since, it's been a steady march to bring the seeds planted in us kids in the 1970s to today's hideous bloom.
I don't adhere to those beliefs, but I have a deep native knowledge of their intent and the ways believers are impelled by them to make these laws and file these lawsuits and elect slavering semi-sane madmen to power and stoke cultural panic.
These people aren't just getting started - they've got traction, scalps on their belt already, and they're gaining steam and hungry for more.
NAR Christians (such as Ginni and Clarence Thomas, Sen. Ted Cruz' father Rafael, former Rep. Michelle Bachmann, failed GOP candidate for governor of Pennsylvania Doug Mastriano, Jan. 6 co-conspirator Phil Waldron, General Mike Flynn, insurrectionist Roger Stone, and the Moms For Liberty) believe that it's their Divine Mission to prepare the nation and the world to become the Kingdom of God.
This is called "post-millennialism" - the term for the set of beliefs upon which the NAR is based and that drives its adherents. NAR believes that we are in the End Times as foretold in Scripture, and that today's Christians are commanded by the Lord to do everything humanly possible in pursuit of one singular goal: to bring God’s kingdom to pass on Earth and prepare the way for Christ's return. Viewed for decades as a far-out fringe heretical movement populated by apostates and quacks, these zealots will stop at nothing to bring this to pass.
See all the "cleansing" that's going on now? Roe v. Wade overturned, the abortion bans, the trans bans, the anti-drag laws, books being pulled from school shelves, public libraries being shuttered and defunded, anti-immigrant laws, the Twitter takeover and its right-wing reformation - the list goes on. This is ALL a direct result of the NAR/Christian Reconstructionist influence and the untold dark-money billions and shadowed billionaires that finance it.
We're in a very dark and deep hole, as a country, as a culture. But we're not helpless. We start by arming ourselves with knowledge, by reading and heeding the reporting of Jenny Cohn and Bruce Wilson and Kira Resistance on Twitter and in the Bucks County (PA) Record reporting from the epicenter of Dominionist/NAR politics, take action online and in the places where we live. In today's world, we can be activists and influencers for good without having to leave the house, and if you want to protest in person or march in support of the cause, you won't be alone.
There are movements and organizations gathering steam in our community that have been preparing for action and are ready to launch. Some are more visible than others, but all are made up of committed activists, funders, legal advisors, and LGBTQ+ citizens who are tired of being abused by these people and the violence (literal and legislative) against us. Old-line AIDS activists like me are disgusted at the sight of our life's work and our decades of progress being rolled back and obliterated seemingly overnight. Gen Z and Gen Alpha are just not having it and are rightly pissed off by what's shaping up to be a bleak future.
It's not going to be easy or quick, but I know there are enough good people among us to hold back the worst of the current moment, rebuke and reverse the legislative oppression and physical danger, restore full access to HRT and gender-affirming care, roll back the "abortion bounty" laws and support vulnerable individuals and families with assistance and relocation, claw back and secure the civil rights that have been stolen from us, and restore light to our country, our culture, our lives, and our future.
I'm engaged in this fight, and after nearly 40 years of activism I've never been more lit up with passion and determination than at this moment. This fight is winnable. You're needed now. Watch this space for opportunities where your presence, your effort, your voice is wanted and will be welcomed, and feel free to message me with your questions, ideas, activist resources needed or offered, organizations you know of that need support, general questions, strategic advice, and words of encouragement you wish to give or need to hear. Let's gooooooooo
