A little update on my babies! I haven’t posted on this account since my stinky darling Scooter died, in July. Most of my kids are okay, but Cookie and Cuddles who are my 5yo gps (not at all related) are both starting to hit that senior decline that all longtime guinea pig parents know and dread. I’m just keeping an eye on them and letting them naturally slow down as they wheek through their golden years. My kitties are awesome, though they’re both little buttheads. SUPRISE!! (From months ago, also posted on my private acc) BUNNICULA BOOPLESNOOT has a pretty long and sad story, but he’s starting to S L O W L Y calm down and come out of his shell. Apologies for the crappy pic; besides when he was high out of his mind after neuter, I don’t force pictures on him. BOMA the flying fiend is 2.5 now, all chunky monkey sassy pants 75 grams of him. His vocabulary has grown exponentially since those first few pretty birds; he cusses me out better than a drunk sailor. Where’d he learn it??? I still take him on field trips from time to time- he loves driving or walking with his mama. He’s more than a huge poser too if you hadn’t noticed. Chomp. This is what can happen when dogs finally pop in their kennels. It won’t stop me, but please let it stop YOU from surrendering, breeding, not spaying/neutering, not chipping, not training, not socializing. Dogs go kennel crazy when they don’t go out for weeks at a time. It’s just a matter of time before they pop. Please do your part in keeping them out of the shelter. That’s a third strike for that animal. I don’t see him being kept alive after this one. I forgive him. And I hope he forgives me. The shelter is no place for dogs long-term. They just can’t cope. And who could. Just so you know, not all volunteers deal with dogs that have bite histories. I accept the risk fully. I am not mad. Not upset. Not scared. I wish it did not happen. Happy National Check the Chip Day! Oh wait, not these chips? My bad! 😅 The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) joined together to create “Check the Chip Day.” This day is to remind our humans to have us pets microchipped and make sure that the registration information is up to date. They can also have your vet scan you to make sure the chip is still in place. One time Cat Sister got out right after she moved to LA with my human. Her contact information wasn’t updated yet for her microchip or her tag so it was kinda scary but in the end she found her way back home. Flashback Friday missing my boy Sir Merlin Fuzzybutt. Come home while we’re still here (still looking for an accessible place). I remember when he started holding his bottle as a kitten. I miss the weight of him on my lap easing my pain. It’s been a lonely eight months. I’m glad he was neutered and microchipped when he was little. Please desex your pets and microchip. You never know when your friend might get out. Desexing helps prevent them getting into fights and adding to the population of feral animals. It also is better for their health. He was so friendly and so gorgeous, I admit I was selfishly disappointed when, thanks to the good folks at Animal Emergency Center at SW 74th and Western and found.org, we found his relieved family. 😢 The other day a woman came into the shelter… 18 months earlier her dog was stolen… She drove an hour after she received the call that her dog turned up in our shelter after biting someone.
