Happy Birthday to former ECW Champion Mike Awesome January 24, 1965 - February 17, 2007 aka The Gladiator in Japan.)

Awesome holds the distinction of being part of the only time that a WCW wrestler (Awesome) was pinned by a WWF wrestler (Tazz) for the ECW World Title. Awesome was the ECW Champion when he signed with WCW. After threatening lawsuits against WCW, ECW agreed on a way to have him drop the belt. After a favor was asked by Paul Heyman to Vince McMahon, WWF wrestler Tazz was slotted in the match and the rest is history.

Unfortunately the momentum Awesome had going into leaving ECW for WCW disappeared when they saddled him with the horrible "Chubby Chaser" gimmick.

Awesome passed away on February 17, 2007. His matches against Masato Tanaka are legendary.

Rest in Peace Mike Awesome. Keep powerbombing the shit out of the wrestlers in the big ring in the sky.

L'"Awesome" nel nome d'arte non è per pura vanagloria.

Mike Awesome era davvero un talento magnifico, il classico wrestler che se non ci fosse stato lui tanti altri non sarebbero arrivati(Brian Cage, o Keith Lee volendo fare due nomi). Un mix di potenza e agilità, capace sia di salti oltre la terza corda che di devastanti manovre di potenza(celebre la Awesome Bomb, la sua powerbomb eseguita dalla terza corda spesso su un tavolo).

Fu con il dvd di One Night Stand 2005 che proprio questa manovra mi fece saltare dalla sedia catturandomi subito epoi, con più mezzi a disposizione, innamorare definitivamente di questo lottatore.

17 anni fa un suicidio dovuto ad una grande depressione ce lo ha portato via. Un altro grande lottatore che sul ring sembrava impavido ma che purtroppo è stato sconfitto da un nemico fin troppo forte.

Grazie ancoa per la faida con Masato Tanaka!

The "Awesome" in the name of art is not for pure boastfulness.

Mike Awesome was truly a magnificent talent, the classic wrestler that if he hadn't been there so many others would not have arrived (Brian Cage, or Keith Lee wanting to make two names). A mix of power and agility, capable of both jumping over the third rope and devastating power maneuvers (famous the Awesome Bomb, its powerbomb performed by the third rope often on a table).

It was with the DVD of One Night Stand 2005 that this maneuver made me jump out of my chair and immediately capture me, with more means available, fall in love definitively with this fighter.17 years ago, a suicide from a great depression took him away from us. Another great fighter who seemed fearless in the ring but who unfortunately was defeated by an all-too-strong enemy.
