Splinter takes Mike for a walk down the sewer tunnels to have a serious talk. Splinter says that he recently had a vision of death and it was attached to Mike. He tells Mike that his love and compassion is one of his greatest assets, but that it’s also his greatest weakness. Splinter warns Mike that his enemies will not share in his sense of morality and that he must learn to steel himself so that he can make the hard decisions.

I really need to talk about Michelangelo being the heart and moral center of the TMNT. In all iterations. About his inner light and how delicate it actually is. About how his particular perspective, perception, intuition, insight, eccentricity, and optimism sets him on a unique forked path that might lead him away from his family.

Because husband has been making jewelry out of gemstones and he made me a sunstone ring, I looked up sunstone's metaphysical lore. If this doesn't sum up Michelangelo in every iteration of Ninja Turtles, I don't know what does.

I took a screenshot of part of the letters page of IDW TMNT #101, so the fandom can completely realize how Michelangelo has more depth, insight, neurodivergences, emotional purity, and emotional intelligence than people think, including the writers of many past incarnations. Hi, David Wise, I never forgot that excuse you gave me for the 1987 cartoon.

The franchise tropes of "Mikey is the stupid one" and "Mikey is just a mischievous optimistic idiot" and "Mikey isn't allowed to act all introspective and philosophical, he wouldn't have the vocabulary or patience" and even "Fans shouldn't write Mikey with depression because he's too happy and uplifting to feel sad" need to die out. It's tiring and tired.

FFnet and LJ featured that sort of blatant fan discourse quite a bit, but they also featured violent comments trolling before Tumblr existed, and while fandom bullying was less particular and instantaneous it was still ugly. Nobody threatened to devour our kneecaps over ships, though, that feels recent. Everything via the Ninja Turtles fandom on Tumblr feels weirdly new.

Hey look, I found a nifty Mikey theme song for headcanons where he's more insecure and anxious than he lets on. Go, fanon!

Although I must say the 2016 film did a fantastic job of showing his inner insecurities and ADHD RSD even briefly. Now if only more fanfics would show it beyond making him act like the class clown, but that's my thirty years of bias talking, mea culpa.

I feel like I must tell the fandom that @ladyshinga Facebook messaged me that she dreamed about the turtles meeting Spider-Man, and Leonardo yelled at Iron Man for putting too much pressure on Peter. They would all become friends. I said that this would absolutely happen. Shinga agreed, "Exactly. They understand the pressures of being teenagers who gotta save people and whatnot xD."

You know what for Mikey Monday how about a very random headcannon? If Mikey ever babysitted or had a kid and they wanted to play 'make believe' He would not care one bit if he had to be anything from a princess to a dog. He would just love the fact he could have a wide imagination to make this kid happy

This is absolutely Mikey. He's just that type of person. I headcanon that he's happy with dressing up in anything, he doesn't care about human convention or gender roles. In fact, I think I wrote a post about 2012 Mikey after the episode where he said he loved tiaras. And we know that 2003 Mikey had the most fun in human clothes, especially dresses. I know in a couple of my fics, I wrote him playing with glitter and silk.

Mikey and Donnie: Meltdowns

An anon asked me how my Turtles handled stress and Tumblr ate my reply, so I'll try again.

Donnie will hide in his lab and destroy works in progress that he deems pointless. Intense music will play. He'll curl up on the floor and mumble.

Mikey will close himself in his room and rip up artwork that he doesn't like. He'll play loud music and yell. He'll flop down on the bed and flail.

Eventually one of them will find the other and they will talk it out. They will wind up in the kitchen to make Mikey's ADHD medicine, coffee with cocoa powder and chocolate. Afterwards they'll spar in the dojo until the stress melts away.

No, really, the 2003 fic I'm working on is sluggish.

Actually, I am going to use this as an excuse to link to all my 2003 fics because not only are they very Mikey/Donnie centric, the first 2003 one-shot I ever wrote is literally Donnie and Mikey dealing with stress together. Plus I can show off the illustration by @arteinthemachine
