My headcanon is that the Kraang stole DNA off of Titan and created four new turtles to try and take down the five turtles. And Uno, Odyn, Yi and Moja are born! (At this point of time in my headcanon, both Karai and Titan are grown adult at this point, and his little brothers are young adults. )

I don’t like that in Mutant Mayhem Donnie is not a “science guy” but instead is more of an anime and pop culture geek. I’m not against him being an anime fan (I love anime too) but I wish we saw more of his science and being a tech genius side instead of him just liking stereotypical “nerdy stuff”. If that makes sense.

I don’t like the Punk Frogs (any version).

The 87 crossover episodes in the 2012 series (as much as I did enjoy them & are great episodes) should not have happened. They leave no real impact or development to 2012’s overarching story and just waste time. These episodes could’ve covered more important things that 202 was desperately lacking like like character exploration and character dynamic development. It was just nostalgic fanservice. The arc in S5 specifically would’ve work better as a movie instead of a 3-4 episode arc in the (most likely non canon) final season.

Shinigami being Mikey’s second love interests ruins her character a bit (for me personally). That was a pointless decision that did NOT need to happen. She would’ve been our first recurring female character to not be a love interest, but nope!

People are allowed to like/ship Donnie x April in ROTTMNT (this is coming from someone who’s not crazy about April being shipped with the Turtles).

I ship Yuichi with 2012 Leo more than Rise Leo (still ship Rise Leoichi, but I just think 2012 Leoichi is way more interesting, plus 2012 Leo deserves a good love interest).

The humans in Mutant Mayhem look ugly af (I know that was probably an intentional design choice but still. It looks bad.)

I hate Raph x Casey (any ver). I’ve stated in part one that I don’t like Raph (any version) being in a romantic relationship with human characters and yes, that meant him with Casey. Not only that but Raph and Casey being a couple ruins their whole dynamic and iconic friendship I love so much. I’m all for friends to lovers but they are a line that should not be crossed. Not every friendship needs to turn romantic.

2012 Karai’s hair looks bad.

Fans often over exaggerate Rise Donnie’s character and badly mischaracterize him in fanfics and fan comics to the point it makes him feel like he’s an entirely different character.

Shinigami should have been revealed to be a villain.

Rise Donnie was just as mean to his brother as fans claim 2012 Raph was to his. Yes, they both do love their families and I’m NOT saying either of them are abus!ce (they’re not), but fans praising Rise Donnie for doing similar things fans criticize/hate 2012 Raph for doing just makes them hypocrites.

Venus does NOT need to be in every iteration of TMNT. It gets kind of annoying when fans keep on saying that she should be in all the other iterations when in truth her presence would not make sense based on the already established canon story. The only (recent) version of TMNT where I think her being included would’ve fit the best and deserved to make her comeback in is ROTTMNT.

The side plot of 2012 Karai being mutated and later getting brainwashed by Shredder was a waste of time and the most boring arc in the series.

2012 April, Donnie and Casey being in a poly relationship does not fix anything with their problematic dynamic and massive flaws with one another. I'm not saying you can't ship all three of them together, you do you! Idc But in reality their relationship would be a train wreck, that's why I personally don't ship 2012 Capriltello.

Renet is probably one of the most powerful allies the Turtles have in the 2012 series.

Rise Donnie would NOT hate 2012 April. He’d go crazy over her psychic powers and want to study them to help her explore them more.

From what I've seen so far, Leo x Usagi seems like the only GOOD ship in the 2003 series (this hot take might change tho).

Raph had the best character arc and development in the 2012 series and changed the most out of the four brothers. Next would be Leo. With Mikey and Donnie have little development (or none at all sadly).

In the case of character dynamics, Don's and Mikey's archetypes tend to be considered the opposite of Raph's and Leo's - brain vs brawn, comic relief vs leadership.

Yet something I find fascinating about the turtles in the 2003 series is how Donatello and Michelangelo naturally display what are considered Raphael's and Leonardo's best ninja-student traits respectively.

In the team, Raphael's best asset is considered his strength. Leonardo is a model ninja, his movements calculated and perfect. While presumably all four of the turtles routinely work out and obviously practice their ninjutsu, Raphael is shown as the most physically inclined and working out, exercising his strength, and Leonardo is teased for his perfect ninjutsu techniques while arguably being the closest to Splinter.

Yet, Donatello has demonstrated amazing physical strength in the series (detailed a bit in this thread here). He shines as the brains of the group, but he's right behind Raphael when it comes to strength and daredevil stunts. Despite Raphael saving/watching Donatello's back multiple times throughout the series, Donatello has his own reckless side as well, particularly when his curiosity gets the better of him.

Season 3's episode "H.A.T.E." has Don setting fire to a trail of oil to a car, making it explode to scare off the bad guys of the episode. When Raph and Don are racing after the dude with a nuclear bomb, Raph tells Don to jump from their vehicle to the van carrying the bomb:

Raph: "This is where you get off."

Don: "Since when am I supposed to do the crazy stuff? That’s your department, Raph."

Raph: "Just go!"

And Don does. He has no problem literally pushing buttons on unknown machines to help him figure things out, and has the physical strength to protect himself and others if need be. If he wasn't counted on so much for his mental prowess, he very well could be right on the front lines of the physical fights with Raphael.

When it comes to their ninjutsu techniques, Leonardo is considered the teacher's pet and works hard to perfect his forms. He takes his role as leader seriously and deserves the position.

If Michelangelo happened to apply his talent more, however, I have no doubt he would surpass Leonardo when it comes to ninjutsu.

There are so many examples of Mikey's natural talent -- the Big Brawl, causing mass confusion during the Triceratops invasions, outwitting Mr. Touch and Mr. Go -- that it is almost frustrating to see some of the episodes where his brothers dismiss his plans and ideas because he is the resident goofball. He has fantastic planning skills and the enthusiasm to execute them (Turtle Titan, anyone?).

Typically, if the turtles have to split up, it's Leo and Raph together and Don and Mikey together (indeed, there was a TMNT 2012 episode that highlighted the pairings as "Team A" and "Team B" respectively), but I would have loved to see more team-ups of Raph and Don together and Leo and Mikey together -- Team Reckless and Team Planners.

Of course, their personalities help each turtle cement their role in their group - Don wouldn't be Don if he was a brawler rather than genius, and Mikey wouldn't be as optimistic if he was more in a leadership position. This is just a nature vs nurture dynamic with the four turtles that I find interesting.

The lair was quiet that night. The soft glow from Donatello’s desk lamp and the gentle whirring of his machines was the only sound. April and Casey had long gone home, and Raph had stormed off topside in a shower of cruel words. Mikey had given in to his exhaustion, and Leo was sitting vigil by Master Splinter’s side.

The whirring stopped, and Donnie turned from one computer screen to another, reading the new test results from his last analysis. His last ounce of hope and energy expelled as he let out the breath he’d been holding. No change. No improvement. Nothing. He swore under his breath, burying his face in his hands.

“Bad news?” Mikey’s voice was soft and gentle. Like Donnie was fragile, and the wrong tone or choice of words would shatter him. His brother’s caution made the lump in his throat grow. He could deal with Raph’s anger, but Mikey’s overwhelming optimism and kindness? Donnie didn’t deserve it.

“It’s not working. Nothing is working,” he choked out, rubbing a hand over his face. He would not cry. His father was dying, and tears wouldn’t help him. He had to be strong. He had to figure this out before it was too late.

“You’ll figure it out,” Mikey said in the same gentle tone. “You’re the smartest person I know.”

Nothing about the sentence should’ve enraged Donatello, and yet suddenly he was livid. He slammed his hands down on his desk, the impact so great several items toppled over the edge and clattered to the ground. “That’s the problem, isn’t it, Mikey?” He yelled, instantly hating himself for taking his anger and frustration out on his brother. Still, he couldn’t stop himself. “I’m the smartest person here – in our whole social network – and I can’t solve this. I can’t do it. I’m not smart enough to save our dad, so I’ll be the reason he dies.”

Mikey looked the way Donnie felt: defeated, terrified, heartbroken. “Donnie,” he began, his voice wavering the way it always did before he cried.

“What’s going on out here?” Leo’s voice was low and concerned, but still firm. It was hard for Splinter to rest, and when he finally did slip into a rough semblance of sleep Leo was quick to chastise.

“You girls still fussing?” Raph’s grumbling was like a cold shower, dousing Donatello in the stark reality of what was coming. He would fail to heal their father, and Splinter would die. They would all blame him, of course, but Raph would be the most vocal about it. One by one, they’d leave, unable to look at the one who should’ve could’ve would’ve been able to save their dad if only…

...if only he was smarter.

...if only he was faster.

...if only he was better.

...if only if only if only.

The knot in his throat won; it pushed it’s way out of Donnie’s throat in a strangled sob, and he crumpled to the floor, wailing. Somewhere past the pain and the screams and the tears he felt his brothers surrounding him. He could hear the concerned tones in all their voices, even if he didn’t hear the words. Strong arms enfolded him in a bear hug, and of course it was Mikey holding him.

“I can’t do it. I can’t do it, I can’t do it. Ican’tdoitIcan’tdoitIcan’tdoit.” It was all Donatello could get out, shaking his head, fighting the embrace he didn’t deserve. Another set of arms wrapped around him, then another. They were all holding him, and eventually he stopped trying to fight his way out.

His brothers held onto him while he cried. Sometimes it sounded like one of them was crying, too, but Donnie couldn’t be sure. All he knew was they weren’t letting him go. It felt like forever, but finally he had no more tears to cry, no more screaming in him, nothing but exhaustion and sorrow. His brothers eased their grip, but never fully relinquished him.

“I can’t do it, guys. I’m so sorry,” he finally said, not daring to look up. “Nothing is working. And I can’t…I don’t think I can save him.”

In all their years together Donatello had never said he couldn’t fix something. Everything was a challenge, a puzzle for him to solve; some puzzles took longer to solve than others, but eventually he figured them all out.

But not this one.

“Then…,” Leo began, stopped. Took a deep breath, and tried again. “Then we say goodbye.” His breath shuddered as he said it, and Donnie knew he was trying not to cry.

“We knew it would happen eventually,” Mikey said, his voice somehow even softer than before. “Just didn’t think…,” he trailed off, swallowing hard.

“You’re a lot of things, Don, but a miracle worker ain’t one of ‘em. Besides,” Raph said. “It ain’t really fair you gotta carry all this.”

Donnie took a deep breath, surprised by Raphael’s words. “You’ll leave me,” he whispered. “You’ll blame me, and you’ll leave.”

“What?” Leo pulled back, clearly taken aback by Donnie’s confession.

“I should be able to fix-,” he began when Raph cut him off.

“You think that’s why we’re upset? Why we’re angry?” He asked, moving so he could look Donnie in the eye. He shook his head, unshed tears making his eyes shine. “That ain’t why.”

Donnie’s brow furrowed. “But I thought…”

“That’s your problem. Always overthinking.” Raph gave him a stern look. “You ever think we’re mad we can’t do more? But we ain’t as smart as you, Donnie boy. We can’t help you on things like this. No bad guy to punch, no one to fight. Just a whole lotta question marks we ain’t got answers to.” He gave his older brother a small smile. “We’re just sitting on our thumbs. You’re making things happen.”

The room was quiet as the brothers all pulled back, looking at one another. Raphael rarely waxed eloquent, but when he did his words carried great weight. “I don’t know how you could ever forgive me, though,” Donnie finally said, lowering his eyes back to the ground.

“Forgive what, Don?” Mikey asked. “You’re not the one who did this to Splinter. It’s age or the mutation or something we couldn’t prepare for. You’re not responsible for keeping us alive, Don. No one lives forever.”

“And we aren’t going anywhere,” Leo assured him, placing a strong hand on his shoulder. “We’re family. No matter what.”

Donatello opened his mouth to reply, but thought better of it. Instead, he sat back looking at each of his brothers. They were serious. They were being honest and sincere. They didn’t hate him for failing – they hated they couldn’t do more. They didn’t resent him – they resented they had to go through this part of life, even though they knew it would one day come. They weren’t angry with him – they were angry with the circumstance. They would lose their father one day, maybe one day sooner than they cared to admit, but they didn’t have to lose each other. He opened his mouth again, touched by his brother’s love and honesty.

The new beep from his computer stopped him before he could say the words. He whirled on his knees, staring at the screen, rubbing his eyes, and staring some more.

“Don? Donnie, what is it?” Leo asked tentatively.

Donnie turned back, beaming at his brothers for the first time in weeks. “Hope. It’s hope.”

📓 For a project I've been daydreaming about but haven't written

A 2012 tmnt au focusing on Mikey (at first) in which rather than being trapped in Dimension X for a handful of hours, he instead survived for several years there before his brothers were able to follow after him.

I enjoy the angst of Mikey suddenly being so much older than his siblings, and struggling to connect with them, to the point that he starts avoiding his family and instead bonding with others, mostly taken from 2003 and idw.

Eventually they settle into a new rhythm, with Mikey taking on more of a caretaker roll in the family, giving Leo some breathing room to sit down and recover from his knee injury once it occurs, rather than pushing himself to the point of making it worse like he seems to in the show (before it disappears entirely - it being in his head is bullshit)

There's also a romance between Mikey and Leatherhead because those two have me in a stranglehold lol.

I take a lot of the 2012 plot and shuffle it around, especially with Raph being controlled by the brain worm. Rather than it being a brief thing where he's taken and saved very quickly, he's the one to kill Splinter, and remains with the Shredder for a rather long time before being rescued.

Donnie becomes a mob boss. I just think he deserves a criminal enterprise.

There's other details but I can't think of them at the moment (maybe if I'd actually written then down I'd be able to relay them better lol)

I know you just sent these to me via an ask because the comments wouldn't let you, but I must make something clear! I very much like 2003 Mikey!

If I gave the impression that I disliked 2003 Mikey, then that was on me! This is a Michelangelo hype zone! He deserves the best!

I was very brief about my reasons for being upset at Mikey's characterization in my previous answer, mostly because I address a lot of this in the essay I'm writing and I didn't want to repeat myself. I will try to be more clear here without overlapping what is in the essay.

I actually fully agree with the above posts! Mikey is awesome and epic! The Battle Nexus episodes are among my faves because they are largely Mikey-centric. I like any episode where he teams up or has a moment with Leo, because I think they have the best dynamic in that series. And the dude has major nb swag - he cross-dresses multiple times in the series, and everyone is just chill with it.

My issue with Mikey is not because (to use your words) "he’s a one dimensional goofball that only exists to make quips and one-liners and get smacked". It's because the narrative treats him that way.

He gets these cool episodes and moments, and yet practically no one in the show treats him with any kind of praise or respect. At times, the narrative itself seems to try to do its best to paint him in such a terrible light, making him almost unlikable at times with certain comments and rude jokes (for example, when he keeps calling the Underground City folk "monsters"). His bragging about his win at the battle nexus is portrayed not as well-deserved self positivity, but as having an obnoxious ego which his family shames him for. His interests are constantly mocked, and certain episodes often have him losing his comics, or his collections being destroyed because it's "funny". Even Splinter is an ass to him on multiple occasions. It gets grating to have that much negativity thrown at a character who really does not deserve it.

When I said that "he would've been my favorite had it not been for how the narrative treated him" I meant that I liked HIM, but not the narrative surrounding him.

As for that second link regarding the "abuse" of Mikey; I also absolutely hated that pretty much every time he makes a joke, talks about things he likes, or acts like, ya know, a teenager, he gets smacked upside the head. After the first 50 times it gets a little stale.

But frankly I think it's silly to call it "abuse". What I would call it instead, is "bad writing". The creators think that's funny. They think that's showing a good, silly brotherly relationship. I, personally, do not. But to call it "abuse" is missing the point that I'm trying to make with both the hitting and his character in general. And that is that the writers did not know how to allow for any meaningful depth in a comic relief character and make it stick, nor do they give Mikey any of the respect that he truly deserves.

And THAT'S my issue with 2003 Mikey. Not that he's a bad character, but that he deserves better!

I wanted to come on here to thank you once again for over 500 followers! I think we’re at 518 now and it feels like such a fever dream.

I started writing on here in July 2022, so it’s almost been a year, and the love you all have shown me since then is blowing my mind every day! We’ve grown so much as a community and for the first time, I feel less alone with the things I like. I get to do what I love and share it with people who find enjoyment in what I write and it’s just… wow. I’ve never thought I would come so far, and I am so fucking grateful to every single one of you because you have saved my creativity and kind of my life because I’ve felt so alone before I came on here, and ever since then I’ve felt like I’ve had a purpose, even when things got rough.

So thank you again, and I consider all of you my friends. I’m so glad you could find pieces of yourself in my work and that it helps you as much as it helps me. I’m so happy that I get to make you laugh, cry and sweat every day with my work, and I don’t think I could ever grow tired of you all or this.

I owe it to Tumblr and the Daredevil fandom that I’ve met who I consider my best friend and platonic soulmate @blackshadowswriter and I don’t think that would have happened if I’d listened to it anxiety and never posted anything on here. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Lisa and I am 20 years old. I was born on January 20th, 2003, I'm a Capricorn, and I am obsessed with Harry Styles, Stranger Things, One Direction, Taylor Swift, and of course,

Daredevil & especially Charlie Cox.

I'm not a native English speaker, I've just been learning it since I was six years old. I'm originally from Germany, but I am a huge traveler and I love London like it's my second home.

I've met Charlie Cox on December 3rd 2022 at Germa Comic Con and he was the nicest person EVER (he asked my name and shook my hand with both of his and I died!) I was also still blonde at the time, and my smile was so wide, it made my eyes disappear.

What else is there to know about me? Not much.

I am pierced, I have tattoos, and I'm me. That's all there is to it.

The question is, who wore it better?

I don't know, I'd say I win...

I’ll admit to having been a bit of a stickler when it comes to Ninja Turtles, because for the longest time, I only really enjoyed the 2003 cartoon version. 

1987 was too goofy, the first live-action movies were a little corny (still love the first two), the newer live-action movies were...disappointing in general, and the 2012 show was just...sad with the almost mean-spirited jokes and sometimes-toxic dynamics. Poor boys deserved better in general there.

So of course I had my reservations about Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I first heard about it, considering the general theme above, and put off watching it until stumbling across the first season on Netflix a couple weeks ago.

Bro.

I am OBSESSED.

It’s just so pretty, and dynamic, and funny as hell, and you can really feel how much the brothers genuinely love each other while being teenagers that poke fun. 

Sure, there are changes, but they WORK.

Leo’s a jokester, but that’s because he doesn’t have the responsibility of being leader fueling a need for perfectionism and so he can be more laidback; Raph’s more openly protective and gentle with his brothers, but he’s the oldest and biggest, of COURSE he would learn to control his temper in order to avoid hurting his brothers and make sure they’re safe; Don’s a bit more sarcastic and tired, but that can happen when you’re so far ahead of your general peers and know that you can’t expand your horizons for obvious reasons; and Mikey’s a bit more innocent and spastic, mostly because his brothers really look out for him rather than put him down as stupid or weird.

Thing is, I’ve been wanting to write for them now, but don’t want to be putting anymore stories on my plate at the moment. The other option, of course, is to put them in a story I’m already writing.

SO...Who wants some mutant turtles in The Dragon That Will Pierce The Heavens?

I grew up with tmnt 2003 so I’m biased too but I did like 2012 when it came out, but I didn’t follow it as much as I did 03

I completely agree with you on Donnie and Mikey’s characterization! I really loathed what they did to Donnie with the whole love triangle thing they wanted to do. I absolutely loved Donnie in 03 but 12 Donnie omfg. I blame a lot of my dislikes of the show on the writing itself bc I don’t think they wrote April very well either it’s odd idk.

I thought Donnie’s crush on April was cute, silly, and funny at first but they kept beating the dead horse with this and then Casey showed up, added to it, and I wanted to scream.

They ALL deserved better but how the writers treated mikey and his canonical adhd was TRASH.

This is just me very personally as well but when I was just a wee child I empathized with 03 raph a lot bc, even tho I never acted on it, I was just constantly filled with rage that’s a lie I swung a computer at my bully’s face when I’d finally had enough. I didn’t like how they treated Raph’s anger in 2012 especially during the episode where they specifically addressed it. Splinter basically just said “bottle it” and like kind of belittled him for letting things get to him. When they were insulting him for the sake for the exercise I think I realized that 12 raph has trouble seeing when people are being serious with their insults (like me lol). Those were his brothers, contextually he should’ve known they didn’t actually mean any of those things but that’s not how he takes it. And if slash SPIKE is anything to go by he actually thinks his brothers think a lot of bad things about him. He doesn’t open up to his brothers because he does not trust them with his emotions that he himself has trouble dealing with/interpreting

On a more positive note: I do love Raph and Mona’s relationship ship, it’s absolutely fantastic

Writing characters with anger is a difficult slope and is often written badly. As someone who has anger issues but learned how to deal with them over time, when I see a character like 2012 raph, who has trouble handling and understanding his emotions, it both points out the issues and also makes it hard for me as someone who deals with the same thing, relate because it’s often demonized.

Literally half the stuff they wrote in 2012 acted like they wanted to talk about heavy issues but it was written in a way that was almost mocking and demonizing with most of not all the characters. Literally it brought out the worse in everyone of these characters and it drives me nuts

April is the “strong girl who don’t need no man/turtle” but written insufferably, Donnie is the swooning brother who basically is an incel but also a genius who seriously deserves recognition for all he’s done (rest PLS), raph and his anger issues and lack of understanding his own emotions and the perpetuated “I’m tough, don’t feel emotion” manly bullshit, the terrible depiction of Mikey and his ADHD, and I’m not sure they did a very good job or not on PTSD with Leo and his whole focus on being the leader isnt… that great from what I know. And Casey… idk tbh??? He also had some “let me fight for the girl” dumb dumb stuff so he was meh. The love triangle with him and Donnie and April was also dumb because if those three just stopped that shenanigans, can you imagine how great they’d be as a dynamic???

Anyway, ye. There is definitely a lot they could have done better with all of them but I know that is more of a time thing~

the first character i ever fell in love with: mikey!! my love my angel he is everything i like in a character and so much more

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: draco and damio's son fusion. idk the fandom and sainw superiority made me a little uncomfy about them

a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: i'm honestly not that into ships in tmnt idk why. i love platonic relationships in these shows

my ultimate favorite character™: still mikester. he holds me forever rotating in my brain

prettiest character: apriiiil. like girl 😳😳😳 that top and purple hair totally suit you 👉👈

my most hated character: the whatshisname. khan i think? the new foot leader in back to the sewers. he's pathetic but the concept could have been better. i can make him less worse

my OTP: no ships but! brotp mikey and donnie ALL THE WAY they're so different and bounce off of each other wonderfully

my NOTP: incest (tcest). that's it.

favorite episode: god there are so many episodes i could call favourite. so if i must boil it down it would have to be The Christmas Aliens or Grudge Match. they're mikey-centered and show off who mike truly is as a character. i can play them in my head when i drive on the bus to uni that's how many times i've watched them

saddest death: fugitoid 😭😭😭😭 my little guy didn't deserve to die even though he did invent a weapon of mass destruction. to be fair he was threatened and i really can't find it in myself to blame him. poor guy....

favorite season: it has to be the second one. there's so many wonderful filler episodes in there and i believe i caught some of them on tv when i was a kid. i can't remember but it's possible. i adore filler episodes that explore character dynamics and individual journeys

least favorite season: the last one probably. you know why... OR the fifth, but i can't hate any of them because they still have value and i find glimpses of intriguing plot points i wish could be explored. the ninja tribunal arc has creative ideas but falls flat when they want to bring up shredder

character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: the clones probably? i... don't get why they were introduced and why everyone loves them so much

my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: mikey? he didn't really change, not fundamentally, there was no major arc for him except for the overarching Turtle Titan gag but i honestly don't know how to feel about it. still you can watch the first ep of 2003 and go to the last one and mike will be the same. like i dunno i feel like every other brother gets an arc or an issue and mikey just embraces it

There’s this huge theory/debate/whatever regarding Mikey (any iteration, primary example currently here could be 2003, seeing as I’ve been told it’s been referenced/suggested in the show) having the capability to become leader just as much as Leo, if not more so.

I feel like 2012, though, sometimes played up Mikey’s ‘silliness’ for comedy (timed or otherwise) without giving the deserved appreciation to the times where Mikey’s pulled through and been wise(?)/useful/‘competent’. The Kraang dimension scenes are the first things that come to mind, but I know there are a few others.

2012 Mikey’s characterisation, I feel, regarding this topic, is a victim of comedic relief. Am I saying Mikey being the more comedically inclined is a bad thing? No, but some of it endangers some other aspects of his character for the kids that watch his show to be like “ohh magaw silly”.

But Leo has shown some instances of being ‘silly’, too, like being duped by the cuteness of a certain creature (see the “mop-mop” scene), or his encounter with Chloe (the tea time girl).

I’m not saying that if Mikey was leader, he’d be exactly like Leo and Leo would be exactly like him, but I can imagine Leo being less wound than what he is currently without the role of leader on his shoulder (like Rise, for example).

What’s your opinions on it (in other incarnations—I suppose Rise would be an exception—and just 2012)?

It all depends on the version of Mikey.

In my opinion, 2003 Mikey has the highest quality of being a good and successful leader. I never watch the 2003 series but from what I’ve heard from fans and seen in short clips 03 Mikey has got what it takes.

Next would be Rise Mikey. Honestly, I think he has more potential, more mature, and is more qualified to be leader over 2012 Mikey.

2012 Mikey, I personally can’t see him as a leader. Don’t get me wrong, he proves to be skilled in many different forms, sometimes even better than his own brothers, I just feel he lacks maturity and is too naïve most of the time. In the first episode when all the brothers are discussing why they each should be leader they all had their own reason or goal in mind:

Leo - *wants to follow his dream to be like his idol Captain Ryan*

Donnie - “I’m the smartest”

Raph - “I’m the strongest fighter”

But Mikey had no reason, he just wants to be leader for the fun of it. Though he shows potential in leadership when he’s in Dimension X, we have to remember he’s only like that when he’s in Dimension X, because everything in that world is abnormal, which Mikey is a master in understanding.

Some fans and especially die hard 2012 Mikey stans might give me shit for this but Mikey from the 2012 series would not make a good leader, NOT a horrible leader, but I just don’t think he fits the job description and doesn’t have what it takes.
