This weekend is a celebration of Yoga, in all its shapes and forms 🟠There is more to Yoga than meets the eye 🟠It's more than exercise, stretching and getting your body into perfect looking shapes .. or looking perfect.. (😠.. all those Instagram yogi's really don't help!) 🟠It's more than being a recluse in the himalayas 🟠It literally IS. SO. MUCH. MORE 🟠Most of what happens when we practise yoga is subtle 🟠Invisible from the outside, because it works deep INSIDE 🟠 MOVEMENT, BREATH, MANTRA, MINDFUL PRESENCE & ATTENTION 🟠These are the key ingredients for transformation- physically, mentally and emotionally and spiritually 🟠I feel frustrated and sad when people with chronic pain and illness try yoga and have a bad experience causing them to write it off.. 🟠.. 💡As 2020 draws to a close and 2021 dawns we may be reflecting on what has passed, what we have achieved, ways in which we have grown. 💡I like to think of it in these ways.. 💡'how am I less covered' 💡'how am I a little more awake' 💡'how am I little less shrouded by my fears, a little less blinded and dominated by my passions and mental chatter?' 💡'how is my soul light shining through more now?' 💡Consider the goals you realised this year, the lives you touched, the wisdom you acquired 💡This is a checkpoint in time. 💡It's helpful to take stock of where we are, where we've gotten to, even if our journey hasn't been a straight ascending line but a meandering one. 💡We all have an inner radiance that can shine forth 💡When it does we can say and do wonderful things 💡We catch glimpses of it don't we? 💡So as you reflect on 2020, don't shame yourself for all you didn't do, stay self-kind 💡Revel in all the tiny ways and moments in which your light did shine forth, 💡All the ways you cast aside your fears and reservations, 💡All the ways you went beyond yourself, 💡All the ways you stayed true to what was important 💡All the ways you followed your higher self- your heart and soul, radiating beauty and strength. 💡Let's step into 2021 with kindness, hopeful intent, unshakable belief in what our inner light can create and manifest, if we align with it more and more. Do you have a mind body disconnect? . Are they at odds? . In your mind there are no limits to what you can do . You’re still the same person you were before your chronic symptoms set in . You can move freely, without thought or apprehension (and sometimes you forget and do!) . You have energy and vitality . Your body is an ally, a vehicle to fulfil your hopes, desires and aspirations . BUT THAT’S IN YOUR HEAD.. . THE REALITY IS SADLY DIFFERENT . Your body no longer obeys your mind . Your body won’t keep up with your brain . Your body has an advanced firewall that’ll trigger with the slightest provocation . Listen to your body and life is limited . Listen to your brain and you’ll push through, flare up and pay for it . What’s the solution? . A middle ground . Learn to appreciate the optimism of your mind, don’t lose what you love . But stay grounded in what the body says (knowing that it's not always right and sometimes gets muddled) . Learn patience with your body but don’t give in . Find a new normal - for now, and build steadily from there .
