Video shows drone flying and landing on Russian A-50 aircraft in Belarus 🇧🇾

A video of a quadcopter drone flying over a Russian A-50U long-range radar detection and control aircraft at an airfield in Belarus was released on the official channel of the Belarusian BYPOL residence.

In the video you can see the quadcopter approaching the runway of the Machulishchy military air base and the drone flying directly above the Russian A-50U aircraft, which was based there.

It should be noted that the Machulishchy air base is located 12 km from Minsk. This Belarusian air base is actively used by Russian aviation for the war with Ukraine.

BYPOL stated that the Belarusian resistance was conducting air reconnaissance at the Machulishchy military air base for two weeks using civilian drones.

"During one of the successful reconnaissance operations, the drone not only flew within the territory of the airfield and flew near the Russian A-50U alert and air control aircraft, but also landed on its radar station," said BYPOL.

On February 26, information about explosions at Machulishchy Air Force Base was released.

The Belarusian BYPOL community stated that the resistance used drones to damage the air base's equipment. Damage to the front and center of the aircraft has been reported.

BYPOL said it damaged the A-50 aircraft in front and on the radar.

Later, in its intelligence update, the British Ministry of Defense called the loss of aircraft "significant", as it is critical for Russian air operations to provide an image of the airspace.

On February 28, satellite images capturing the plane were published online. However, according to this photo, the aircraft did not suffer significant damage: there were a lack of specific traces that could have occurred due to a fire or explosion.

On March 1, BYPOL reported that two drones manufactured by DJI were used to attack the Russian A-50U. They were converted into Kamikaze drones: each carried 200 grams of TNT-like explosives, BYPOL noted.

Andriy Yusov, representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, said that Russia currently does not have the capacity to produce A-50 radar planes, one of which BYPOL guerrillas destroyed in Machulyshchy.

More recently, the Belarusian Ministry of Defense published at least two dated videos showing the A-50 in question taking off and flying over Belarus, escorted by Belarusian Su-30SM Flanker fighters while performing "combat tasks".

It is possible, of course, that the video was filmed before the alleged drone attack, or any damage suffered was repaired later, although this seems less likely due to the short period of time involved.

Although the Belarusian authorities continue to emphasize that members of the resistance group inflicted minor damage to the A-50U, the Belaruski Hajun monitoring group said that the Russian military took the aircraft for repair at the Taganrog plant at the 325th Aviation Repair Plant.

On March 2, the Russian A-50U aircraft of early air alert and control with registration number RF-50608 crossed the border of the Russian Federation from Belarus.

The appearance of the video above the A-50 on the ground also seems to correspond to the satellite images of March 1, showing that the aircraft moved a short distance along the flight line.
