Chapter 49: Pathogen (Infection)
So no, you’re not righteous. But you’re not arrogant enough to put yourself above the whole planet. …Your brother, though.

...and when you're done click next chapter so you can read
Chapter 50: Confession (Judgment)
The victims' names escape you, but the similarity of the first murder to the exact same crime your father was executed for caught your attention, and you followed the serial killer’s actions as they were discovered for four months, right up to Phi showing up. okay this is a longer excerpt, it's for a fic as my current horror project isn't done yet but!!! horror nonetheless . tw for parental death, body burial, and a mental breakdown . also this is verryyyy first draft-y lol
“I need help with burying a body.”
It’s part of the phone call Akane received minutes prior and it’s what pricks at her mind like an open wound. Her cars’ lights reflect what’s in front of her: a road that hasn’t been paved for a while, cicadas screeching in her ear.
The car is old, a rental she and Aoi neglected to give back when their lease was up. Her radio is busted and only spits out static when prompted. Sometimes the muffler makes an odd noise and the car jumps even when there’s no pothole in sight.
Akane sped out of the house without a word to Aoi. It’s nighttime, so she knows she’ll get questioned when she comes back. If she gets back.  She’s still dressed in work attire, hair disheveled due to digging her nails through her scalp.
She arrives at her destination using the coordinates Mira provided: an abandoned factory surrounded by hills, a serrated fence, and a grassy field, perfect for burial. Someone probably still owns the property, but for now, they’re nowhere to be seen.
She parks at a dirt road, then hurries to Mira’s side. She is already hard at work, several holes dug by her side.
There lays the body. Akane crouches next to it on reflex. Male, middle-aged, possibly fifty or over. His chest is dressed in red, stabbed multiple times. She thinks about the other victims, how they were disemboweled, when, why.
“Why him?” She asks without looking at her.
“No reason.”
Akane stands up. “Rather simplistic for a serial killer.”
“Oh?”
“Think about it. Usually victims of a crime tend to follow a pattern. You stabbing people in the heart, for example. It’s said that finding the connection between the victims will lead you to the perpetrator.”
“Were you a forensics student in school?”
“No.”
“Fashion design, then?”
Akane crosses her arms. “This isn’t a wedding. Aoi would kill me if–”
“Your brother?”
“Ye–wait. You’re stalling, aren’t you?”
Mira leans against a bloodless shovel. “I’m not doing anything. You were the one rambling about victims and connections and such.”
Akane takes a shovel and starts digging. She thinks about her first year of elementary school. How her brother picked her up early to break the news.
That her father was dead and her mother was soon to follow.
The soft soil underneath her fingernails, the scent of stale greenery. She envisions the grave, lowered down for it to be hidden away from prying eyes.
Dig, dig, dig. Get to the bottom and soon you’ll find them.
Someone hauls her by the armpits. Akane looks up. Mira stares back.
“I asked you to bury a body, not dig an anthill.”
Akane says nothing. She topples into Mira’s chest, cries into it the way water pours into a mantle.

Sparrow your Mirak AU has been living in my head rent free for weeks. I can't stop thinking about it, it's so cool.
I dunno what your plan is with it but I love the idea that Dream knew what would happen if he told Quackity what was in the book. Like if despite everything Dream's still holding on to his goal of making the server a family and doesn't want any more of them to succumb to the sickness. So Dream refuses to tell Quackity, tries to tell him it wouldn't work but only manages to get himself punished for "lying".
Days pass and Dream's mental health gets worse and worse. He barely eats, barely sleeps, he's in pain and terrified but more than anything he's just *angry*. Angry at Quackity for hurting him, at Sam for letting it happen, at himself for protecting people who don't give a shit about him. Even as the hate and hurt eat away at him, Dream refuses to let Quackity hear the words that will ruin him.
But one day Quackity crosses the line, pushes dream too far, and in that moment all Dream can feel is hate. So he lets Quackity think he's won, lets him bask in his victory and watches as his glee turns to horror when he gets exactly what he asked for.
- Angst Rat
PS: The conlang looks super cool, I'd really love to know what Quackity was saying in the last fic if you still have the translation. :)
so i love this au a lot and can’t believe i forgot about it, so thought i’d answer this ask and write some more about it because it’s super fun !! the words in a different language are a conlang i’m making up for one of my books, so i thought i’d try it out a little for this au - here’s a translation :))
sol mirak na - show us mercy (na = give, sol = us/our, mirak = mercy)
mirakan - no mercy (‘an’ is ‘not’ so it literally translates to ‘mercy not’)
ghria kī - i promise (‘ghria’ is promise and ‘ki’ is i/me)
pīyet kī - hear me (’pīyet’ = hear, ‘kī’ = i/me, if it was ‘kī pīyet’ it would be i hear!)
hope you enjoy !! this is a prequel to the initial thing i wrote, which is karlnapity centred and can be found below:
chapter one (here) // chapter two
warnings: body horror, general horror vibes, torture / abuse, dark portrayals of c!quackity and c!dream (but not unsympathetic!), ambiguous ending
The words crawl in Quackity’s head.
Dream knows, because he’s put them there himself.
And when Quackity stumbles back from him, sword clattering out of his hands numbly as both hands go to cover his ears, Dream manages an expression he hasn’t made in a long time: a smile, bloodstained and vicious and triumphant, because he hasn’t won, but neither has Quackity.
He’d been merciful at first: the language of the gods had never meant to be heard by moral ears, by the ears of a non-Admin, and so when Quackity had demanded the book’s knowledge, Dream had actually laughed at him, given him a blunt refusal. Even after the torture had started, even after the pain and the non-permanent deaths and the tears and the agony, Dream hadn’t caved, because he doesn’t wish the curse or burden of information on anyone.
He’s not... He’s not a monster, contrary to popular opinion. He doesn’t want Quackity to suffer like that. He doesn’t want anyone to suffer like that.
Until ten days pass, fifteen, twenty, thirty, two months, three four five, and Dream’s heart is overflowing with hate and rage and pain, and until very suddenly, he realises he does want Quackity to suffer.
Dream wants to know Quackity will never forget the words. He wants to know Quackity will never be able to push them past his tongue, wants to know Quackity will never be able to hear normally again - that he’ll forever hear the voices of the gods running through his head, all of them furious at him for possessing forbidden knowledge. He wants rain to scorch Quackity’s skin, wants his arms and legs burning with runes and curses he can read but never speak of, wants Quackity to tremble with the knowledge this was Dream’s doing, that this could have all been avoided if only he’d been kinder.
So Dream croaks out an okay in the middle of one session, heaves up blood and bile while Quackity crouches down to his level. Even with the gore in the cell, Quackity’s eyes are gleaming.
“What was that?”
“Okay,” Dream breathes, voice coming in a weak whisper, “I’ll tell you.”
And he opens his mouth and he speaks. The words coming out of his mouth are a comfort: a waterfall, after so long of keeping them pent up, but he makes sure Quackity hears each one, staring into his eyes while the younger gazes back at him, frozen in time and space.
And they crawl. The words crawl from Dream’s throat down into Quackity’s throat, spreading over his skin and into his eyes and under his muscles and into his soul. And they mark there. And they scar, and Quackity staggers back like he’s been punched, clasping his hands over his ears.
Dream grins. It’s too late for him now.
Quackity leaves very suddenly, and Dream collapses onto the floor, breathing heavy and wheezing, but he hears Quackity’s screaming in his mind when it starts ten minutes later, feels his panic and desperation and pain when the gods begin speaking. They chant at him: mirakan, they snarl, and Dream knows they are telling Quackity no mercy, and it makes him smile.
No mercy, he tells Quackity himself, and wonders if the other can hear him through the other voices in his mind, you don’t deserve it.
“Sōl mirak na,” is all Quackity weeps back, and Dream knows he’s unconscious, knows his body is shutting down in an attempt to process the powerful magic wrecking it, “mirak.”
Once upon a time he would have granted it instantly, would have laid a hand against his own forehead and whispered words of calm and kindness at Quackity. He would have quietened his mind and soothed his soul and pulled off each word from where they’d latched onto him, taken his burden back.
Now, he closes his eyes and listens, and feels the raging hot burns from the words marking Quackity’s skin.
Mirakan, he thinks again. No mercy.
An eye for an eye.

She enters the coffee shop feeling underdressed. Mira sits at a table that faces the window wearing a frilly sundress. Her face full of makeup contrasts Akane’s minimal look.
Akane ambles in Mira’s direction and sits down on the chair prescribed for her. Actually, it didn’t feel like it was of her own will. It was like someone put her into a trance.
Two cups of coffee stand untouched before her. Her name is written in black ink on one of them.
“Black coffee,” Mira says. “Just the way you like it.”
Akane doesn’t know whether to thank her or call her creepy. She settles on neither. “That’s… great…”
She’s about to take a sip when her intuition tells her not to. Mira isn’t looking at her, instead taking a gander at the nearby window.

My mind:
Put the main plot aside.
Mirai said Kanade's beautiful.
One of them will probably have to shoot the other with the red arrow at some point.
A big ship just now shipped 10 shipping ships.

“What do you do for work?”
It’s a simple enough question. Mira knows too much about Akane that she’s comfortable with.
“What do you mean?”
“Like… a job?”
They sit on opposite sides on the couch in Mira’s flat. They’re not even holding hands. Some couple they are.
“I kill for a living.”
Akane crosses one leg over the other. “I don’t mean that.”
“A florist, then.”
“Everything you touch dies.”
“I’m second in command in Free the Soul.”
“They dissolved a while ago.”
Mira shrugs, turns the other cheek. Akane raises a finger.
“How about this? Do you have any hobbies?” “Murder.”
“Anything else?”
“I’m sure the workaholic has a hobby.”
Akane shoots upward. “When did this become about me? And I do have hobbies. I… play Pokemon Go sometimes, and watch urban legend iceberg videos on my days off. There’s some quantum physics textbooks I’ve been rereading lately.”
“And do you do any of those things as much as finding your next target to punish?”
Their eyes meet.
“Point taken…”

MIRAKANE CONTENT ... literally jumps up and down in joy fr fr
I was gonna answer this privately because I’m gonna delete the thing you’re referring to in a day or so, so this ask won’t make much sense after that happens, but I started rambling about something that Wasn’t That so I guess it can be public
but yeah! Mirakane! The murderest of lesbians that I’m aware of! and also one of them unequivocally hates the other for crimes committed in the past except she isn’t aware that those crimes were committed by this specific murder lesbian!
idk if Mirakane is requited in the “True End” Route of ZWG, i have no idea if my Akane is capable of separating The Person Mira from The Act Of Killing Sally Valentine and therefore Getting Akane’s Father Sentenced To Death. the attraction would have to be present in the first place for her to even put effort into trying to untangle that knot, but i suppose a world exists where Akane has enough distance to say “there’s no way Tiny Mira had the foresight to see past the immediate consequences of her murder, I should instead get mad at the American Court System for killing a man, who was not proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to have killed the woman in question, just because he himself was not American”
don’t know if that world is this world
but you know what, I will always support and spread Aromantic Lesbian Mira Propaganda
and i maintain that the only reason Mira ever attached herself to Eric in canon was because he attached himself to her first and she had enough self loathing to go “welp, this is probably the best I’m ever gonna get, even if I don’t like it I guess it isn’t unpleasant”

 Day 8: Back in Tokyo.
After settling in to our short stay apartment the day before, we spent most of the next day in The Miraikan National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation. (phew!)
The main attraction at Mirakan is Asimo, a child like humanoid robot by Honda. Not only does he speak, but he sings, dances and can kick a football!

Some space exploration exhibits at the Miraikan in Tokyo.
You could almost experience a space toilet first hand, if it wasn’t for a sheet of perspex and the force of gravity…
Yes, that is Kewpie mayonnaise and it is designed to go into space! My question is has anybody taken Marmite into space, though?
Finally, Buzz Aldrin’s signature. It’s probably as close as I’m ever going to get to him, at least consciously.
Taken on 29th July 2015.
