I wired him (unsuccessful) but I recycled an old hat from my son when he was a baby and made a hat for my resin big boy (successful).

Taking a step at a time.

Decided to keep his sculp's original name. He's been "Mihael" for a decade in my head. Hard to rename him. Despite the fact that I had a few ideas for a name, they didn't spark much of his personality.

All my creativity is being poured into projects, uni and commissions. I have very little energy for personal art, but I think it's nice to take a step back and prioritise other things. BJDs also help me to keep creative in a different way.

It's hard to get nice pictures when your husband is a giant. These are their canon heights lol. Rokai's height does not include his antlers.

For another pride month snippet, these two are one of my favorite couples. They are both gay and Somei is gender non-conforming. This does of course lead people to sometimes mistake him as a woman but he doesn't care all that much normally. He's just happy to be with Rokai and undertsands he's very femme presenting for a boy

As a side note.. every time i mess with Rokai i remember how sucky the mirodoll body is. Sueding might help but if it doesn't i'm going to have to upgrade

for context this is on one of the biggest ball jointed doll sites and for years!! dollshe was a super elitist item oh my god. genuinely INSANE that they are banned?!?! like these used to be big bragging items for people and now its just like. no fuck you. god thats insane

So I tend to just randomly buy things when I'm stressed, and work is stressful, so when I saw that Mirodoll had a translucent green guy as well as a 68cm body with a random head for under $100, I couldn't say no to that. They cost a little more than a weekend of work including shipping, which is probably a bad idea to spend? but I love translucent dolls, and I need a body for a head I preordered a couple months back.

I got an order confirmation, but it took a week to get a shipping notice (I've only ordered one doll from them, years ago, so I wasn't sure about the shipping time). I got the email before work, and when we got home from work-- the box was waiting for me at home! Good thing our neighbors have mostly stopped stealing our mail!

Of course it was after ten hours of selling turkey and dealing with customers and all that, so I was too tired to do anything but take the dolls out of their box and look at them and then fall asleep. I'll have to work on them once the Faire is over. Also they came with some freebies, which is fun! I got two sets of glass eyes, some putty, and two of those little dolls that seem to be everywhere.

Now, I know Mirodoll doesn't have the best rep, and that they're banned from DoA for having dolls that seem to be copies, so I never see people talk about them, but I do want to say that these are dolls that aren't on the banned list (except maybe the 68cm doll's head? But I don't know that I'll keep that anyway). I don't even know if I need to say this, but I just wanted to clarify because I've seen people get upset at Mirodoll before, and I like a few of their sculpts (Jared... you will be mine...).

Research, research, research. Looking at measurements offered by companies might be helpful, but it depends upon where they measure. Neck measurements might be at the neck opening, or they might be at the base of the neck, and frequently, the only way you find it is when you get the body, and crap - the head doesn't fit.

2. Plan for one of the parts (head or body) to be blushed or dyed to match the other. Generally, it's easier to get a lighter head and blush it to match the body. That's what Ducmon (popular face-up artist) does:

My first hybrid was actually a butter-yellow Angel of Dream body that I dyed using the dezombification serum, followed up by my very first body blushing.

2a. Invest in chalk pastels, acrylic and/or airbrush paints, and sealant. And when I say "invest," I don't mean go run out and spend $10 on a single pot of Pan Pastels. Don't get me wrong - Pan Pastels are amazing. Highly pigmented, deposit lots of color, and easy to use. However, plenty of face-up artists use cheap old chalk pastels. You'll just have to build color with layers.

2b. Yes, you can buy expensive artist-quality brushes, but know what else works just fine? Make-up and nail art brushes. In fact, nail art brushes - the kind you can buy in packs of 5 for a buck or 2 at the dollar store - are the best brushes for those super thin eyelash/eyebrow lines.

2c. When in doubt, Zaoll. Seriously. Dollmore Zaoll heads seem to work with everything. I kinda kid, but also, not kidding. Zaoll heads are great because they are a face-plate style head that sits on top of the neck, so they perch on just about everything. Also - Dollmore constantly sells random heads for at least half-off in their "Special Sale" section. I had 4 - I recently sold one.

3. Paint/blush/dye to match. And you're done!

Ha ha ha. This is actually the hardest part - but it is possible. If you don't get the color you want on the first round, either wipe and start over, or spray sealant and add another layer of color. Oh, and something I learned from matching a body to a head - move the doll into different areas/under different lighting. Something that looks like a perfect match under cool, white lighting might look completely different under a warmer, yellower light.

I managed to focus on something today. I searched on my spare fabric box and found this white fluffy fabric. I wanted a white coat for Aya for a long time, so I wanted to give it a go. Mostly sewn with my sewing machine and playing with thread tension. Not bad.

Buttons, closures and colour balls by hand. I'm happy it come up so well.

I also decided to change Aya's eyes. She literally swapped eyes with my still-unammed big boy.
