i’ll never ever ever ever ever forget when i was talking with this one girl i met on tumblr and i was telling her that despite everything i’ve been through in life, i think i turned out normal and okay. and she said “but did you really?” and she didn’t mean it poorly - she was being genuine. anyways my life has never been the same and i’m sorta haunted the way women tend to be

i think that you can be a super compassionate person and try really hard to be that but until you let go of the notion that your supposed to be super embarrassed and make fun of past versions of yourself you still have compassion to learn.

no matter how many time you tell other people their emotions are valid if you forget to extend that same grace to yourself your being hypocritical.

sure you had nothing to be scared and yes you cried for no reason and maybe someone does think bad of you for that, but what would you say to your friend who cried and was scared. you love them and you tell them they are allowed to cry.

If there was a question that wasn’t fair, it was this—it was a low blow to ask about his girls and then restrict it to just one of them. Still a smile twitched onto Jack’s face. They were delights, they were what made everything worth it. Jack didn’t have anything without them.

“Jane is an absolute sweetheart.” The girls were all sweet in their own ways. But hardly to people outside the family. That ingrained fear of strangers was hard to untrain, but the children were resilient. He didn’t have any doubts they would surpass their conditioning. They were stronger than him. “There isn’t a night she doesn’t want to curl up before bed and read together.”

The smile on Jack’s face was soft. Matching the soft weight Jane put on his chest as they snuggled together to read. Though Jane did most of the work picking the words off the page. She was five years old, his youngest, and she could already read better than him. Jack couldn’t be prouder of her.

She’d come so far since Jack found her in Arcadia. When they escaped to the surface she’d been petrified by the dark of night. Scared that when the sun went down monsters would come creeping out. That the world would become the cutthroat standard Rapture set without the light. Which meant the only way she could sleep at night was in Jack’s bed with all the lights on. Now Jane just needed a nightlight in the room she shared with Ann, and she could fall asleep all on her own.

Every little improvement, every small hurdle she crossed made Jack’s heart feel so hot he thought it might melt. Rapture hadn’t doomed them—the children were going to have such bright futures. They were going to have everything he didn’t.

 And these little victories made Jack think maybe, just maybe, he wasn’t too far gone either.
