Hi, hope it's ok to ask some stuff about your thoughts on mithrun (not sure if it got asked before). But do you think mithrun and his brother might've had a good relationship the beginning? Like when they were really young, maybe even before mithrun noticed the different treatment his parents did to him and his brother. Also do you think that the former mithrun was really in love with that elf? Cause after reading mithrun's part in the adventure bible I'm starting to have a few doubts, esp since that chibi look a like of the elf in question is being described as untrustworthy. Like maybe former mithrun was only into them cause his older brother also seemed to fancy them?

It's always fine to ask me stuff! Though I might not always have time to answer, I love seeing people's questions!!!

I don't know if you've read any of my fics, but I do go into what I think Mithrun and his brother's relationship was like as children in both "Show Me How to Get Off the Ground" (College AU) in chapter 2, and the short fic "A (Fairy) Phone Call Between Brothers."

In summary: I think when they were very young, Mithrun didn't realize that there was something "wrong" with his brother. He was just his best friend, his playmate, they spent all their time together and so of course they were very close. Just the two of them living on a big country estate, while a plague raged through the population - not a lot of chances for play-dates with children outside of their family.

Once Mithrun was old enough to get sent away to boarding school (so around 50 years old - 10 in human terms) he quickly realized that being like his brother (disabled) meant being cast aside and discarded... So he started to put distance between them, and the older they got the colder Mithrun was towards his brother.

I think that Mithrun felt guilty and ashamed for abandoning his brother (similar to how Laios felt guilty for abandoning Falin)... and the fact that his brother kept acting like they were loving siblings made the guilt even worse, and turned it into anger and resentment.

As for the mysterious elf (gender unknown) that Mithrun and his brother were both interested in... No, I don't think Mithrun ever truly loved them. Like you said, Mithrun thought that the snake spouse elf wasn't trustworthy, so I assume that means he thought they were a gold digger. Somebody that was only interested in Mithrun and his brother because their family is very wealthy.

I think Mithrun ignored his own desires (wanting to date, or have sex with the snake spouse) because he thought they were a bad match, that his parents wouldn't approve, or that they were dangerous to his social status...

So when the magic mirror showed him his brother happy with the snake spouse, Mithrun was overwhelmed with jealousy and regret. He worries about if he misjudged the snake spouse. What if they were actually wonderful, and now Mithrun has missed out on the love of his life because he thought he was too good for them? And now his brother has them instead?

I think Mithrun's story is complicated, and Kui tends to suggest things rather than explicitly tell us what happened, so there's a lot of things to speculate about, and different ways you could read it all.

what happened to mithruns ears?

Hi Anon!

I'm not sure if you're asking about what happened to them in canon, or if you're asking about what happened to them in my fanfic. Both are spoilers for the manga so I'll answer under a cut!

In canon, the Demon in the dungeon (there's only one demon, it's a hive mind, so the goat and the winged lion are the same entity) ate most of Mithrun's desires, before stopping and abandoning him. No canonical explicit reason is given for WHY the demon stopped, was it chased off? Did it lose interest? Did it deem Mithrun's desires too boring and Mithrun not worth fully consuming? I personally think it's the last one, and that's one reason why Mithrun is so emotionally devastated by what happened.

The demon ate Mithrun's desires, but it also cut off/gouged out/consumed the tips of Mithrun's ears and one of his eyes, and somehow stole the color from Mithrun's remaining eye.

Elves consider pointy ears beautiful, and Mithrun thought he was better than his older brother because he was more beautiful (pointier ears, more angular features, not disabled) and had silver eyes and silver hair.

So the demon took away those things, possibly because Mithrun desired to keep them and had a lot of his self-worth wrapped up in "I'm better than my brother because my ears are pointy, my eyes are silver"... The demon could have eaten his hair too I guess, or stolen the color from it, but for whatever reason it didn't. Maybe boredom, like I said before.

In my college AU fanfic, "Show Me How to Get Off the Ground", Mithrun was an elven soldier sent to the South Central elven continent to fight against Southern Separatists that want to leave the Elven Empire.

He was captured by Southern Separatists, and held as a prisoner of war for five years while being tortured. They cut off his ears on purpose, and a torture session gone wrong ended up with him losing his eye (it got hurt while Mithrun was struggling, and then the Southern Separatists didn't give him any medical care aside from gouging it out the rest of the way.)

After 5 years of this, Mithrun managed to escape and get to friendly territory, at which point he was evacuated back home to a hospital and started his recovery.

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character? Nothing, for he is without flaw.

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise? Haven't seen this a ton thankfully but portray his "desire-less" self as aro/ace despite canon telling us he very probably isn't; he literally became the lord of a dungeon to steal his brother's girl. While disabled folks obviously can be ace (🙋🏻‍♀️), I don’t like the implication that he "became" aro/ace once he became disabled as it's a common and hurtful stereotype about disabled people. And yes, you can make the argument it was not an allo relationship he was after, but something about making him out to be aroace now that he's disabled makes me feel...icky.

10. Could you be best friends with this character? I could drag him to a painting class and I think that would fix both of us.

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character? He has a hard time identifying and labeling his need for comfort, but he likes deep pressure (like a weighted blanket) to as a means of soothing.

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like? Writing his dialogue is both a blessing and a curse. How much is he gonna feel like talking about? How much does the context matter? Or who it is he's talking to? Etc etc. Writing in his POV is also a labour of love, since I don't think he is 100% in tuned with all of his feelings either. That can be difficult to accurately portray in writing.

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character? He discovers some of the less intense bath bombs and finds he actually likes them. Just dumps them in a bucket of water and watches them melt. Visual stims !!!

13. What's an emoji, an emoticon and/or any symbol that reminds you of this character or you think the character would use a lot? He finds the 🖕🏻 emoji and sends it to Pokkle continuously from a burner phone. Pokkle is still trying to figure out who's sending them.
