Hello friends, I am back with more reading recommendations for your agonies! Next up we have the long awaited and much requested Sad Boat Fiction list. As with all of my lists, this is NOT exhaustive and there WILL be great books left off, and also you may or may not like these books! I only rec things that I've personally enjoyed or that come highly recommended by trusted friends, but taste in books is incredibly subjective, especially with fiction. If I missed your favorite, please add it in the comments or drop it in my DMs!
Now that I'm feeling more settled in my new job, I will hopefully have a lot more time to make book lists and do more virtual Readers' Advisory. I have lists in the works for women in polar exploration and companion reads for the HBO War series, but if there's something else you would love to see, please send me a message!

FUNDRAISING FOR THE CRISIS SHELTER FOR TRANSGENDER PEOPLE
Center T helps transgender people in Russia and those in exile in other countries.
The Russian government persecutes LGBT people by making xenophobia its state policy. You can read the stories of hate crime victims here . Often, transgender people are forced to urgently flee Russia because of state persecution or domestic violence.
In January 2024, we opened a shelter in Yerevan, since transgender people fleeing Russia often end up in Armenia without a livelihood or acquaintances in the country. In addition to providing housing, we work with our shelter residents on a plan to get out of the crisis and, if necessary, provide assistance from a psychologist, psychiatrist, as well as necessary medications and basic food products.
Unfortunately, we do not have funding for the project for the upcoming month of August. And we urgently need to open a collection to keep the shelter operating.
The collection goal is 2,175 euros. This amount includes rent for a three-room apartment (shelter capacity is up to 6 people at a time), utilities, household chemicals, basic food and medicine for those who are unable to afford those costs. It also includes the support of the project by a psychologist and coordinator.
We really need your help. Support us — tell your friends about this collection.

If/when Neil ever does decide to show his horse face online again, theres a good chance he's going to A: hope that a lot of people have cooled down about the accusations/don't want to engage with it anymore and B: they'll be willing to listen to the story his PR team has managed to spin for him. Unless more conclusive evidence appears, chances are its going to look like an apology but will paint him in a light that downplays his abuse of power and influence and exaggerates his victims as being volatile and untrustworthy. (This is already happening, and he's going to encourage it)
This is classic abuse tactics and as much as I'm sure a lot of fans are tired of this, if people follow along, he will continue to do as he has done for more than three decades. Do not fall for his bullshit and do not allow him to occupy the internet comfortably.

Russian military has bombed the largest children's hospital in Ukraine
Okhmatdyt (Охматдит in Ukrainian is short for охорона материнства й дитинства = protection of motherhood and childhood) is known to most Ukrainians, even those who have never has children or have never been to Kyiv, as the main children treatment facility in the country.
In the morning of July the 8th, about 60% of the facility have been destroyed by a Russian missile Х-101.
As of now, it is known of at least two dead adults (one of them was a nephrologist at the hospital) and several injured children, and there still are people under the rubble (yes, including children). Lots of medical equipment has been destroyed, much of it cannot be found anywhere else in Ukraine.
The toxicology department is the most damaged one, which is also the location where children have been undergoing hemodialysis at the time of the strike. Many of the patients did not have the option of being transported to the bomb shelter promptly after the air raid alert, as they require intensive care treatment (such as kids on life support, lung ventilation, in sterile boxes etc.)
Patients are being evacuated to other hospitals around the country, rescue operation at the strike sight still underway.
In case any one of you is willing to help, I'm sharing a link to the Okhmatdyt charity fund (the page is in Ukrainian, but there are instructions for foreigners as well — please scroll until you see info in English).
I just have to add that it was a direct and deliberate strike — two other hospitals have been under attack that day as well (one in Kyiv too, and one in Dnipro).
May the good people of the world live in safety without fearing for the lives of their children, and may those who bomb children's hospitals answer for their crimes

can yall stop saying labru has no basis in canon or has less basis than other dunmeshi ships when all of them are noncanon and also. romance aside, they're literally narrative foils. They are meant to mirror each other. laios himself isn't the driving force behind kabru's actions but the moral dilemma he represents + his opposite views on what is valuable and worthy of love (monsters vs humanity) IS. kabru forces laios to acknowledge his own humanity and his insecurities stemming from his trauma, the same way laios forces kabru to acknowledge his. He literally spends the rest of his life by laios' side. this is not an effort to force people to ship them or enjoy the pairing but so many people are blatantly twisting the story to dunk on shippers and its agonizing to see
