the mitmh24 post-solving team i'm on decided unanimously to skip the late-game puzzle jigsaw slitherlink. we looked at the solution page and, yeah no regrets whatsoever. this is the new most insane puzzle i've ever seen

i will spend zero time explaining the solution to this, but the tl;dr is that you have to assemble a jigsaw with fractal regions, solve a cursed slitherlink through it, and then figure out what the loop's area is.

so obviously solving this puzzle would have been completely unrealistic for us but it's super cool. one of those ideas you will remember forever.

IV Guys - Realised what the core mechanic of the puzzle was after Googling the puzzle title (the rebuses corresponded to phrases formed by removing letters from store names) - Solved the rebuses for IKE(A), GOO(D)WILL, and (GI)ANT EAGLE

Steam Library - Identified all the enemies in the subpuzzle "Terraria," and figured out that each enemy inflicts a specific debuff that one of the accessories used to form the Ankh Charm protects against

Deposit at the Word Bank - Figured out the correct answer to the clue "Toll" was PEAL, enabling team to progress with the solve

Rhyme Thyme - Solved 90% of the clues after figuring out all the answers in each category had to rhyme (and were in alphabetical order)

Show of Hands - Identified the categories "tennis scores," "troy weight units," "chemical elements," "synonyms of 'tow'," "letter sounds," "Greek letters," "South Park characters," and "abbreviations for time"

You're the Only One - Solved the clues for CALLER I'D OWE/COLORADO and GERM I KNEE/GERMANY

Divine Intervention - Figured out that the prayers could also be offered to Catholic saints - Figured out that the canonical hours that were missing letters indicated times that were shifted back a number of hours equal to the number of missing letters

The Other Scottish Play - Identified all the characters in each scene using online resources

This Puzzle Keeps Turning Upside Down and We Can't Figure Out Why - Figured out that each set of songs was taken from a specific movie soundtrack (with one odd song out)

Augmented Raility - Figured out the ninth screenshot is of GoldenEye 007 through extensive Googling

Najaf to... - Noted that the three alphabetically consecutive letters in the names of LKM did not have to be adjacent or in alphabetical order - Identified the destinations TOKYO, CHATTOGRAM, SPARTANBURG, DAKAR, GRANADA, ACCRA, and NEWPORT NEWS

Revolting Developments - Solo-solved, including figuring out that rebuses clued songs by The Decemberists and each dictionary definition contained a superfluous portion that clued a word from the lyrics of each song that was offset from the primary definition's word by a number of words equal to the day in December of the corresponding headline

League of Their Own - Identified that the rebuses corresponded to Cranjis McBasketball names from Impractical Jokers

Halloween TV Guide - Figured out the puzzle centered on episodes of TV shows that were parodies of A Christmas Carol from the flavor text alone

Though, I'm laughing to myself... this pathetic bird actually managed to achieve something in life. He got Relaxed Tsukasa! to make such a cool face because of how annoying and hatable it was. Sooo? This was already the plan since the very start? That's why Mit 2.0 got sent to No.3's boundary specifically. hmm... so... No.3, out of all the other mysteries was the one to be already targeted to get replaced by Mit 2.0 I assume? but like... Mit 2.0 won't ever be able to take down No.3 by himself no matter how long he would stay here... Tsukasa was bound to get the work done himself sooner or later. Also... now that kinda makes sense to me... it's hard for me to believe Tsukasa would go out of his way and do such a thing for nothing, or only because of the claim "No.3 got him angry, never make Tsukasa angry, he is simply ruthless and don't have mercy." that's so wrong to me... Tsukasa is not that type of person. smash someone because he shouted at you or got you angry. something else is at play. I may also take the thing of "Tsukasa taught him a lesson and all"... but it still won't feel enough... While Tsukasa's ongoing plan is to destroy the 7 yorishiros, No.3's case in here seems to never have been meant to actually do that.

But this I assume? No.3 was only a pawn pre-chosen by you Tsu, huh. cool! also, sure thing Tsukasa can juuuuust appoint a mystery as if it was a little thing. sure thing.

lol, even sakura once Tsukasa was back with mit 2.0 prepared tea for him, a way to show her relief past annoying no.3 is no longer there. maybe he was actually just the worst and was getting on the broadcasting club nerves. while she is there to only change the rumor of No.2, say No.4 is not bad, tell Nene about No.5 (ordered by Tsukasa I assume), supposedly help No.6, want No.1's yorishiro out of the way, and not care much for No.7, No.3 was like: yeah, it's for the best he is no longer here. let's have tea. For real, I imagine she would be angry if Tsukasa didn't take such an opportunity to get rid of No.3's yorishiro right there if that was already their plan. seems they have different plans for it. according to Tsukasa in ch 92... he told her the yorishiro of No.3 is already a "done deal" for them, whatever that meant. Uh... to put it simply, this bird is never wanted or cared for, not even for a little. The fact that a yorishiro is meant to be a mystery's most precious thing gets to me at time and I'm like... this bird? his yorishiro is an actual ceiling....??? what feelings are in there??? also... now that it belongs to mit 2.0... what memories are restored in it?? the bird's (if there is any 'good' ones) or Mit's?

♡ Now I wonder, is that thanks to that mirror in the room we see Tsukasa in at times (maybe it works like a door, Tsukasa touched it while speaking about Mit 2.0, probably hinting Mit 2.0 is 'inside' it, reminds me of the fact No.2 also took Kou and Hanako to a mirror as well) , or to a door that leads to No.3's boudary in the nowhere place... (wonder what that room really is)

Cool reaction... feels special to see your own yorishiro in a boundary that belongs to another mystery, after he 'replaced' it.

What a rare occasion... 2 yorishiros in the same place... right beside each other...

hmm... real mit and mit 2.0 have different scarfs, right... so... the one with Mit 2.0 is actually from Tsukasa? sweet. Also, Tsukasa taking care of Mit 2.0 is something I've grown to like... for some reason.

Hmm... look at the change... though... can we really call it a change? I mean... he gave up on the whole idea and made a deal with Kou and let said deal decide how things would end with him... maybe the change will come someday in the future...? Not to say this but... honestly... his whole 'cool' speech about wanting to have Kou end him only to give up on the whole idea after exchanging a few sentences with Kou feels.... boring... unsatisfying... not interesting at all...? Comparing him to Tsukasa and Sumire... makes things a lot worse... Tsukasa wanted to be killed by Amane and it happened and he embraced it happily, and now he is asking for it again it seems. Sumire as well, she never asked to be saved from being sacrificed and had that happening to her with a smile on her face then had No.6 finish things with her while she was all happy. Now, between those 2 who live to their words no matter what and Mit 2.0 who changes his mind every 5 minutes... yeah..... not too cool.....

Thank you, this is really nice to hear! Last night I had a dream about Jack (going with this because of his many names, it's the one you used), and then when I woke up I saw this. Not actually that much of a coincidence, though, because it isn't especially rare for him or his work to figure in my dreams.

It's not exactly that I don't like mentioning Jack. I have a lot of fun memories involving him, and Poorly Planned Comics in particular is enjoyable for me to talk about. The problem is that the longer I'm talking about him (and PPC, due to how it ended), the more likely it is to come around to the topic of what's probably the most traumatic day of my life. And I wasn't even the one who was the most affected. So the subject's something I'm wary about getting into too often.

It does mean a lot to me that people are still appreciating his work. Also mine! I'll be working on getting some more stuff out there soon, once the weekend is over and my waking hours aren't mostly being devoted to solving MIT Mystery Hunt puzzles.

i heard stories about mystery hunt going long last year so i thought the team hosting this year would lean slightly shorter to ensure it didn't happen again. alas,

(and i know hunts with larger puzzle counts existed, but 237 is a very large number of puzzles to have)

where i've been (2023-01)

Here's a nice photo of the library and some of my earth science notes.

I spent Christmas with some friends, and played some Scrabble, which is actually incredibly fun. The score was very close at the end, at about 60.

We didn't realise New Years' fireworks were a thing in my city, but watched one of the online streams of fireworks in the country capital.

I also went on a trip to one of the other universities in the country, and practiced being bad at photography. Here are some pictures I took, bonus points if you can recognise the uni!

I hunted with TTFKATFKA...TTNBL for MIT Mystery Hunt, and I've signed up to help with the next one. Overall, it was a fun Hunt, but (as others have said) quite long, and I particularly enjoyed the story incorporation and characterisation. I ended up missing most of it because of time zones and other commitments, like my mocks, but oh well.

Mocks (mid-January) didn't go too well. Lots of heavy revision needed, which might be a struggle with how much stuff I've got on my plate.

Term's started up again, and I'm swamped with all sorts of busywork. I also wanted to start a puzzle club at my uni, and I'm going to help out with a guide for USESO. If you want to know more about the guide, DM me and I'll message you once it's published!
