Summary: Bonnie isn’t entirely sure what she’s expecting when she knocks on Mitch’s door – well, her son, probably – but a nearly naked Auston Matthews – hair a mess and scratching sleepily at a stubbled jaw – certainly wasn’t it.
Recommendation: Short and tooth-rotteningly sweet. Literally just Auston and Mitch being soft and sweet to each other through the POV of Mitch’s mum when Mitch has a minor injury. In the Leafs timeline it’s set post Babcock firing, pre-COVID so they weren’t rookies but we’re still pretty new and shiny.
read the last one as: nylander > marner > matthews. she's scruffed but i refuse to leave it out as it makes me cry every time i think about it. anywho | read the other fucked up newspaper editions i've created
Summary: It takes about the length of their first practice for Toronto media to decide that him and Mitch are best friends. And, like, Auston’s been warned about the press in the city a million times, so he gets it. They want a story. He’d be fine with it, honestly, except for the small issue that Mitch Marner is the most annoying person on the entire planet.
Recommendation: One of my fav Auston/Mitch fics. I truly love judgy as shit Auston not instantly taking to over eager Mitch Marner in this. The mix of insecurity and cockiness for both of them great but it leads to some particularly poignant moments for Auston. Mitch is very Mitch. Sometimes too Mitch for Auston (or so he thinks). And they start out kind of enemies to loves on Auston’s side of things. But in the end it’s very dumbass for dumbass—Auston does not think he’s a dumbass for most of this but he very much is— in the most endearing ways. Miscommunication and stumbling into things abounds, and there’s a little bit of angst re: sexuality and relationships and fucking things up, but there’s a happy ending.
