I've been silent for too long. Controversial opinion. Finn Nelson didn't cheat and literally did everything he could to help Rae. Like she was lying to him, hiding things from him, and basically telling him to fuck off for the whole of the last season. He was constantly being made to feel like his looks were a problem, like yeah, I'd probably kiss someone else when we were on a break too tf. My man must have been exhausted. Like he put in work to be possibly the best bf to ever grace screens. And y'all want to strip him of his crown when he did 1 little thing that realistically anyone trying to get over someone who constantly rejected them would?? Bombastic side eye.

My Mad Fat Diary (2013 - 2015)

TW: This series includes self esteem issues, depression, self-harm, and suicide. Please be aware of triggers prior to starting this show.

It’s hard to review things I already appreciated in my adolescence and remain unbiased, but this series holds a soft spot in my heart. There are only a few series that left me craving more episodes after their intended series that actually landed. I love this cast and every vital part they play.

The acting is tremendous, and left me in tears on many occasions. At it’s core, it is a young woman navigating the new world beyond her mental illness; but it is so much more than that. Friendship, family, renewal, alcohol, school, parties, illness, breakdowns, breakups, and breakthroughs.

I have even used the advice of the snarky psychiatrist Kester to advise myself through hard patches. There is so many things of value in this series, and I am forever appreciative of that.

This is worth a watch, but only if you:

Can tolerate heavy storylines around mental health

Appreciate the Cool Britannia aesthetic and it’s many playlists

👋 I just want to pop in and say thank you for keeping this blog open! I’ve been rewatching MMFD while I’m sick, and went back through some of your posts to reminisce. It made me miss that time!

But I’m grateful to you for being such a good source for anyone who might find the show, so many quality fics, posts, and laughs. (SOME of us (looks away in embarrassment) might have deleted all our stuff in a fit of pique. Ahem. Anyway). I’m happy it’s here, and happy you’re here, frequency be dammed!

I'm with you that I really do miss the fervor of MMFD series 2 and even series 3 . . . the most intense fan-sperience of my life, truly. But I'm still always chuffed to see people sending messages like these and kudos-ing my fics on AO3 now and again; the show is great enough to keep people checking it out and looking for more.
