Fanbinding: the webnovel "Are You OK?" (You Yao)

Without getting too spoilery, this novel features a great number of transmigrators who have irreparably altered the historical fantasy setting they landed in. I wanted to play with anachronism in my binding but I thought "if I do some sort of mock stab binding that's not going to read as anachronism, that's just going to read as low effort." With a proper stab binding, I couldn't put the whole thing in a single volume, but fortunately the novel is comprised of interconnected short stories so it was easy to split up.

Each volume contains two stories (the sixth volume is the extras) and they're bound tête-bêche style, meaning that they start at opposite ends meet in the middle, flip it over to read. I lined the inside of the covers with rainbow marbled paper and bound each volume with matching colors of thread. The slipcase (my first, and easier than expected) is edged with the same marbled paper and lined with a promo image from the donghua. So, this is kind of all over the place, design wise, but I hope like... coherently so.

To be fair/honest? *We* knew these stunts were coming when she announced the new album. Plus, almost everyone is talking about the Beyoncé album right now and TTPD drops in about 3 weeks.

I wish she understood(?) she would have even more support if she would just be herself more often. The real Taylor is who we get to see every now during the Eras Tour that’s hilarious, relatable; accidentally swallows bugs. Gets stuck on the folklore house. Has a haunted piano that starts playing by itself because of rain. Lol

Then you have Taylor Swift™️, who we currently see that suppresses herself and her accomplishments to cater to her section of fans who chug the Travis bullshit at the expense of her other fans. Because THAT is what’s going to make *them* buy all the versions of the albums, etc.

Whatever happened to the days of actual promo that related to and revolved around the music? She wants the focus to be on the art, right? “It should be about the music and it’s not”….but she shoves the “personal” down our throats and takes the focus off the art and that’s why some people don’t appreciate the art like they should.

Give me a first single and a music video. An actual talk show interview. Not more routine staged pictures of you lying in dirt beside some man with his strategically placed hand on your ass to have something to talk about with his brother on his podcast.

It’s seems like she sometimes “dumbs” herself down to the level of whoever she’s “dating” at the time. Joe was the “love of her life” then they “broke up” last April and 5 seconds later, she was mouthing words to 🐀 on stage until June. Then she was celebrating “single girl summer”. Then she started this CAA promo run with Travis.

I’m not trying to be mean or harsh when I say this, but things like this don’t make her look like the heartbroken victim she seems to want people to think she is. Not when she’s openly associating with people like BM and JM.

It also irks me how some of her “OG” fans (the main ones who mock and harass other fans for *their* interpretations and *their* relatability to her lyrics) claim to know her. She’s their (parasocial) bestie who would never lie to them when they don’t know her at all. She has always said her truth is in her music, yet they don’t hear her screaming to be heard and seen (i.e., Antihero stage visuals).

They don’t notice how every time there’s a moment where Travis is being criticized, here comes an article saying how “Taylor” feels about it?

Like the one about how she “loves” his dad bod. Or the ones about how much money he’s spent on “wooing” her. Or the constant articles about him and how much money he paid for his house that he suddenly was able to close on about two weeks after they became public, even though he was a 2 time SB champ at the time and had been in the NFL over 10 years.

Sorry for the rant, but it’s frustrating because I get it, but then again I don’t. Because she is the most important piece of her brand and she just goes along with these things even when she doesn’t want to. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I can’t stand the guy. But it seems clear that she held off on promoting TTPD until after Beyoncé’s album dropped. There is no reason to crowd the promotion for both albums when they can each have their own spotlight.

Summary: Rex's goal was to get into the organization, get the information, and take it down. Of course, no one had ever successfully infiltrated this empire, and most people had died attempting it, so it was easier said than done. But, the fact that a government agency had also sent in an agent, their best agent, was either a very good or very bad thing. Rex just happened to recognize them, and for some reason, Ben had decided that working together is the best option. What could go wrong?

$11 for a comic about a guy trying to save his community from the rot of capitalism when all it takes is a vpn and the right Totally Legal website to read the whole thing for free is almost an outright challenge

look at the price of this jacket and tell me you don't want to jump off a cliff. the $4 increase from an xs to a 3x is mocking us more than the jacket already was. go to a thrift store, brush up on painting and make it yourself. it will be cheaper and look so much more punk than this thing

i'm putting all the t-shirts in the same section. i've decided to put as much effort into this as the people who "designed" these shirts did. yet again animators and comic artists do all the leg work while guys with business degrees copy and paste their art onto a low quality shirt for $20 because their trust fund pulled them up by the bootstraps

okay i know i said i put all the shirts in the one section but this one just impresses me. it's objectively more boring than the other shirts in this post yet it's like $15 more expensive. it doesn't have the spider-punk branding which is the easiest part of selling spider-punk merch. also the marvel logo is there just to remind you this is funding copaganda. insanely low effort and expensive. never spend $37 on a t-shirt

i understand not everyone is good at art so "just make it yourself" isn't the solution here. i'd like to take this time to encourage you to look into artists that can give you something more worth your money. it may not be less expensive but it will be better than spending $30 on a poster which you should never do

hobart brown would be horrified to see the price on this thing. i legally can't tell you to steal it so i just won't say it. there's no reason on earth to pay this amount of money for this. "it's hard to resist" and "no ethical consumption under capitalism" etc etc. i get it. if the price doesn't de-motivate you just imagine that hobie would be throwing up at the idea. you're welcome

at this point they just don't understand the target audience of spider-PUNK. no hobie fan is paying $30+ for this. high prices only punish the ones who want to legally obtain the thing. don't be the guy who picks up the tab for the moron who wants to milk the anti-capitalism cash cow. you're better than that

hobie merch marketed toward children makes me laugh. i could go on about how this thing existing waters down anti-capitalism and hobie's connection to the punk subculture but it's low-hanging fruit.

all i can say about this is it being a 6 pack will stop no one. you don't need to spend $60 on this when all of this together should not be more than $25 maybe $30. there were higher quality spider-man action figures in burger king kid's meals in 2012 during tasm promo. also i can't tell you to steal it. remember that.

Happy Twelfth Night!

Here are some Viola/Cesarios to celebrate! I've rambled a bit about the play and these different versions below~

Although it may not seem particularly festive to modern audience, the title of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night actually references the twelfth night of Christmas (marking the coming Epiphany), with some scholars theorising that it was first performed on the 6th January 1601 for Queen Elizabeth's Twelfth Night celebrations. Christmas in the Elizabethan period was associated with revels, misrule and inversion of the social order - where servants were the masters for the day and children could be crowned mock-bishops. Therefore, the play's deconstruction of social roles, particularly gender roles, would have come across as very christmassy to Elizabethan audiences.

Johnny Flynn and Anita-Joy Uwajeh's perform as Viola/Cesario in my two favourite performances of Twelfth Night: the 2012 and the 2017 Globe performances! I think they both showcase polar opposite styles of adapting the play and how they can both shine: the 2012 production is more traditional in that it reproduces much of the original performance context (Elizabethan setting, all-male cast etc) but is very watchable and honestly hilarious. Mark Rylance as Olivia especially is a highlight - he is so very elegant but is also able to make Olivia on par with the other characters in terms of comedy, despite her usually more serious role. You might recognise Johnny Flynn as Mr Knightley in Emma (2020) but he also slays hard as Viola! The 2017 production, on the other hand, showcases the strengths of modernisations of Shakespeare - I actually saw this one in person in 2017 as I was doing Twelfth Night for A-level at the time, and it was just unforgettable! The setting is shifted to 1970s Scotland and imho translates a lot of the original elements in ways that would resonate in a similar way for contemporary audiences- with songs, dance numbers and some hilarious added dialogue/quips. Even the comic characters (Sir Toby Belch and co) who are often hard to translate for modern audiences were hilarious and I found myself excited to see them come on stage. A huge stand-out is Le Gateau Chocolat as Feste, who has an incredible voice. Having a drag performer play Feste is honestly a great modern analogy as she's a performer who takes tips, is able to question social norms with her art in ways that allow her to be the most insightful character, and is also inkeeping with the play's exploration of gender. Of course, Anita- Joy Uwajeh was absolutely fantastic as Viola too. You can watch recordings of both productions on the Globe-player if you're interested!

I couldn't find anywhere to watch the 2009 Shakespeare in the Park production of Twelfth Night starring Anne Hathaway as Viola/Cesario but honestly I just wanted to draw her anyway <3 In the last few years a promo shot from this production became a really popular 'draw your OT3' meme which I myself have indulged in - it'd be cool if there was a way for more people to watch this given the resurgence of interest!

I find it interesting that DTVA still mention or include Rapunzel in her series form in their online promos when they didn’t promote her show during its run. I get Phineas & Ferb getting mentioned because they are always being rerun. But it’s almost like the ads are mocking that TTS never got promoted when it mattered most.

I think Disney really likes the art style, if nothing else. They continue to make merch in that style, especially Pascal. So promoting Rapunzel in her series style doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force #68: “Carl Wash” (Unfinished) | December 22, 2006 – 3:45AM | S05E13 Regular series version aired March 25, 2007 @ 11:15PM

Aqua Teen and Space Ghost are unmistakably related to one another. ATHF is simultaneously a spin-off and an anti-spin-off; based on a discarded Space Ghost script that only became an episode after the fact as a mock lost backdoor pilot. George Lowe appears on ATHF not as Space Ghost, but as himself. Both of these examples fall short of being a true in-universe crossover. This episode IS a true crossover. Carl and Carl Jr., the floating brains featured in this episode, are the same ones from Space Ghost Coast to Coast episode “Chambraigne”. We even see their home planet, the same exact art as used in said Space Ghost episode. This episode is basically a sequel.

Plot’s pretty simple: Meatwad gets a job as a barker for a Car Wash run by Carl and Carl Jr (the brains). They want Meatwad to lure in customers so they can steal their brains while they “wash” their car. Carl, their next door neighbor, is their sole customer, and indeed has his brain removed, turning him into a barely-functional husk. Frylock decides they need to confront these guys. We find out that their plan, which is roughly to remove people’s brains and turn the brains into “brain slaves”. This doesn’t work. Being from a planet where everyone is a floating, sentient brain, they had assumed all brains were capable of floating and being sentient. No such luck, Carl’s brain is just a dead-seeming organ that doesn’t move or communicate with anyone. The end of the episode is that the brains just leave.

This one isn’t a favorite, but it’s fine. Not overly hateable, but nothing special. There are good gags but I don’t really feel like highlighting them. To me the most interesting thing about this episode is how it aired; it originally debuted stealthily at 3:45AM. It was in an unfinished state; with missing sound effects and music. The brains’ voices were also slightly different; they must’ve processed the dialogue through an audio editing program to pitch it down and perhaps add other effects. I think what must’ve aired was the original recording, unprocessed. 

I don’t have the recording for the rough cut handy; I just watched the HBOMax version for this. Fun fact: I believe I was the only person who recorded the rough cut when it first aired. I was an obsessive Adult Swim recorder, and would record the entire block so I could tediously go through it and save promos and bumps and stuff. I used Nero, which I primarily used to make custom DVDs, to encode it from my own DVD-R recording and shared it. To this day, it’s the only version I see when I do manage to dig it up online. It remains a curiosity; the finished version is really the ideal version to watch.

Why the stealth airing? I’m guessing it was in somebody’s contract that the episode would air in the calendar year of 2006, and it was a legal thing. For some reason this didn’t air in it’s finished state until March of 2007. Don’t know the story behind that. I’m guessing they were busy with working on the movie and since it already aired once there was no penalty on their part if they just set it aside for a while during movie crunch-time. Also: This is the final episode of the show before the movie debuted, and the last episode to be in 4:3 SD. Looking back, this could be the true cut-off for “classic” ATHF, and the movie could be the finale to the classic era. And isn’t it nice that it’s a Space Ghost crossover? I think so!
