A DEEP DIVE INTO "IF IT'S TRUE" FROM HADESTOWN THE MUSICAL THE MYTH BY ANAIS MITCHELL

If it's true is the turning moment of the second act. It's begin a lament for Eurydice and in turn the world. It ends as a fight against oppressors. It marks the moment truly questions the haters like EW! haters! dont believe them and LUCKILY orpheus didn't.

At the start of the song Orpheus questioned if it's true in disbelief. Questioned if she's truly gone and if there's nothing he can do.

"If it's true what they say. If there's nothing to be done. If it's true that it's too late, and the girl I love is gone. If it's true what the say; is this how the world is? to be beaten and betrayed and then be told that nothing changes - it'll always be like this. If it's true what they say, I'll be on my way"

Prior to this depresso lament from Orpheus, he had previously trekked far and wide into the underworld to get his love, his wife back. When the lovebirds finally got reunited after they have both fought tooth and nail to survive Hadestown. They were planning to go home with each other WHEN THE BIG BAD GUY /hj Hades came and stopped that act like bro went nuh uh ! Orpheus walked along a rail road track so rugged, Eurydice had to face the fact that she had no face NOT TO MENTION THE INNUENDOS OF HEY LITTLE SONGBIRD????????? LIKE EW !?!?!? this isnt about h,ls but gross and it just shows how much Eurydice SUFFERED both above and down below and how she never knew true safety apart from when she was in the arms of Orpheus. OH! my heart im killing myself writing this. ANYWAYSSSS. With Hades' denial to bring back Eurydice to the surface, he was left with nothing but self pity and doubt. He couldn't believe. Did they really say no? Is Eurydice truly gone? why is the WORLD SO CRUELLLLLLLL?? - Orpheus' questions, as quoted above.

and then he turned. to go out of hadestown, that is. wifeless. dw he'll turn again but this time kind of with wife ?? in the future but shh spoilers ig??? He had nothing to loose any more, the king of the mines denied all that he could loose. What was the purpose anymore. But alas, he sang his song of mourning so loud and the walls heard him. The walls have ears and they listened, listened to his grief which inspired ?? them, grief is funny huhh.

The walls (workers) listened to the boy, moved by the desolation he sung.

Then Orpheus digressed. He began to question the authority of the mighty Hades. Did Hades go to hell and back (quite literally) for his love? no he kidnapped her so what does he know? Hades was so used to demanding and receiving.

Orpheus and Eurydice were pawns in a fixed game of chess.

He refuses to leave without Eurydice. They went through so much, what's a little hell to compare? actually quite a lot but shh purple prose.

Orpheus decided that it wasn't for the few to tell the many what is true. He was going to fight for Eurydice, fight for the chance to be free again. For her to escape the cage she was put in

Orpheus once again turned to go. this time not to accept defeat but to deny the please of defeat.

At the end of the song Orpheus is still questioning if it's true, but not in grief and disbelief; in defiance and grace. He realised that yes, he can get Eurydice back - he has to fight. Even though he believes he is alone, and that he may walk back upon top alone He fights for her, he fights for his love.

I couldn't find a 3 people reference that I liked and wasn't a full body pose, so I just drew Hermes x Aphrodite! I already had a plan for a bigger Aphrodite x Apollo drawing, so you'll get that after I'm done with finals!

Context for the drawing: Hermes came to seduce Aphrodite for the night wink wink, but girl is the real dom in every relationship EVER, so she flipped it on him and used him to test her lipsticks XD

He got only kisses because Aphrodite is a tease that leaves everyone wanting more ✨
