Okay, I thought. I'm not going to panic. I'm going to take a deep breath - okay, I'm not going to take a deep breath, but I'm going to count to ten, and take stoke, and I'm going to stay calm.
"I died," I recalled, mouthing the words airlessly. "Oh well. Could happen to anyone. Everyone, even. And now I've come back to life. So I can't exactly complain, can I? I'm in a coffin. That's where they put dead people. It makes sense. Ho hum. There's no air in here. La de dah. Who needs air? Not me, anymore, apparently. My body seems to have been wasting away for many years. Well I never."
A loud rumbling from deep within the bowels of the earth shut me up. The ground shook violently. I could feel the spiders in my lungs clinging to alveoli for dear life.
"And there's an earthquake going on. Fiddle de RAARGH LET ME OUT LET ME OUT-"

Books that'll actually get you back into reading
Maybe you saw my April Fool's day post yesterday where I sarcasmed so hard I turned into a republican and thought "wow, I'd actually like to find a list of books that will get me back onto the hobby." Well, here it is. And also, if you're not a big reader, don't feel bad. Everyone has their own thing.
First Cut by Dr. Judy Melinek and TJ Mitchell.
If you love true crime, mysteries, and/or detective stories, this will probably be your thing. It is partly written by an actual doctor, but it is very accessible to laypeople. It's got a fun mystery and I found it quite easy to follow (and I'm not a big mystery person). It can be a bit gross, so keep that in mind. But if you already like murder stories you're probably down for that.
Anything by Yahtzee Croshaw
Yes, that Yahtzee Croshaw. The angry speedtalking british guy who reviews videogames. His books are comedic and clever, and they actually got me back into reading as an adult. I'd recommend Mogworld if you like fantasy, Jam if you like apocalypse stories, and Will Save the Galaxy for Food (and its sequel) if you're into sci-fi. That last one's actually my favorite.
Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White
Okay, I'm primarily a horror reader these days and we've gotta get some horror on this list. I tore through this book over the span of about four days, and it ain't short. It's a real easy read, fast-paced, and fun as, well, hell. Again, this is assuming you enjoy gross body horror and queer literature.

Silly Game Time: Are you fan of the fantasy genre? If so, what's a fantasy story (movie, show, book, game, etc.) you really like, and why?
Mogworld by Yahtzee Croshaw
Tumblr media
Satire of World of Warcraft and fantasy genres, very good IF you like Yahtzee's character voice because it personifies the main character. The side characters are all very good on their own. The seemingly inept rogue Slippery John and the psychotic elf Mr. Wonderful are my faves.

Hey, what are some WIPs you are working on right now?
Thanks for asking! I've got a full plate of WIPs actually! Ima try to keep it concise but here are some I'm on below the cut:
Video Essays: - Thoughts On Frictional Game's SOMA: As I aired in this post, I feel that SOMA is a criminally overlooked game, and I wanted to make a video essay about it. The problem is that I have to play through the entire game myself to do that, and that's gonna be the main bottleneck for getting it fully done. - Video Game Romance: The Goods and the Bad(s): This one is a redo of an older script talking about a similar topic. It's pretty much what it says on the tin.
Animations: - SOMA's Intro Reanimated: I've been on this one for a while. It's a complete rework of SOMA's intro sequence, but animated by me! I actually sourced the audio directly from the game for this one! - Without You MV Loop: This is another one I've been working on for a bit. Inspired by this lovely video.
Creative Writing Projects: - From Clay To Brick: I finished a vignette for this story on boxing day last year, so check that out for a general feel for this one! Otherwise, this one is gonna be fun to finish! - The Everreborn: This one was on the back burner of my mind since 2020. It's a very video game and Mogworld inspired novel I've been working on, but is still being outlined.
Thanks again for visiting the askbox and reading this far! Have a great time!

Free Guy - Ultra Quickie
Just watched the movie.
I find it kind of ironic that a movie dissing doucher execs and sequel-baiting producers pushing profit over originality calls itself original, when a large swath of its basic premise was done with someone that did a better job without the Ryan Reynolds star-power.
That someone is Yahtzee Croshaw, better known for his Zero Punctuation video review series. That better product is his first published novel, called MogWorld.
Stop me if you've heard this one: NPC wakes up and breaks its cycle just as the gameworld they're inhabiting is about to be pulled out of service, and effectively speeds the MMO's demise along by exhibiting free will in the normally girded constraints of game event instances. That's MogWorld, and it's also Free Guy. The novel predates the movie by thirteen years.
I mean, it's a great movie - it's pure Reynolds charm and effectively the best Deadpool threequel until Disney puts its big-boy pants on and authorizes a script - but MogWorld is Pratchett by way of early-aughts-grumpy-and-jaded-mumorpurger-player; which makes it even better in my opinion.
I'll have to talk about that book more in-depth, eventually. For now, however, the bed beckons. Ye Olde Real Life Save Point, if you will...

In addition to Differently Morphous being a TV series, Fog Juice, Mogworld and Jam had their own TV series.
In fact, the Mogworld series was so popular, they even made a game out of it.

Been getting into a weird amount of stories where the main character attempts to use death to escape their circumstances lately. Huh.

I love the priest from mogworld. Like I thought he was gonna die every chapter and I have been constantly blessed to see him thrive. But please don't spoil! I have only a few chapters left. I have been speed reading it for three days on and off and may finish tonight.
