"Bite his knee caps off"?
That sounds hilarious and accurate.
It was actually a misquote! I was paraphrasing the Black Knight from Monty Python from memory. The line I was thinking of was “I’ll bite your legs off!” but my memory replaced ‘legs’ with ‘kneecaps’.
Which I, personally, think makes it funnier anyway, and I’m definitely filing the misquote away to use in something later. I don’t know what yet, but I’ll find something.

Between the one table of old men yelling to trip the millennials every time we take an answer up and the dipshits next to us loudly misquoting Monty Python and also touching me randomly, this is not my favorite trivia game 🙄

There’ve been literal centuries of discourse about reconciling science with (Christian) faith. Funny how it’s such a constant refrain in our culture, while no one seems to even notice there might be a clash between “democracy!” (you know, one of those things they use to promote the military) and “Jesus is Lord, the Kingdom of Heaven is coming”. To misquote Monty Python, “God? I didn’t vote for you.” (No, seriously, who voted Jesus in charge? It sure as heck wasn’t me. Strange men gettin’ nailed to crosses is no basis for a system of government. Get your religion out of our government.)

The Final Order of the Day
The Commander-in-chief's Order of the Day no 138.
This Finnish language document was written in 2020 by a group of people located both in Finland and abroad. It was printed in January, 2021, and has been distributed by regular mail today, exactly 70 years since Baron Mannerheim’s state funeral in 1951. It’s a mashed-up facsimile reproduction of the Marski’s WW2 despatches, printed on both sides of an off-white A4.
The text is written in the easily recognised Marski style mixing pompous, bloodthirsty poetry and crusade propaganda. It is intentionally written in poor, corny Finnish, since the Marski, according to several sources, wasn’t able to write proper Finnish himself. His first language was Swedish, his second languages were Russian and French, then German and English, only then Finnish, which was the language of the majority of the people he sent to war.*
The first drafts of the text were written in English, with the final draft written in Swedish, and then rewritten in Finnish for publication. A number of literary techniques – e.g. cut-up, quoting/misquoting**, creative spilling, blackwhiting, sveticisms – have been used when composing/translating/remixing the text. This has created new meanings, unintentional comedy and interesting slips of the pen, as well as signs of dissociative thinking, schizophasia and graphorrhea (possibly related to long-term exposure to stress and high consumption of alcoholic beverages).
Example:
Marski original (1941):
Soldiers of Finland! I invite you to join me in a holy war against our enemy. Our fallen heroes will today rise from the flowery barrows and again join us.
Marski remixed (2021):
Republican citizens of Finland! The rumours of my death are axeggerated nonsense. Like a true fallen hero I’m rising today from one of our many flowery mass graves.
The document also include a few stage instructions making it into a possible two-act monologue to be produced for either stage, video or audio. The first act (first page) featuring the aggressive jingoist, the second act (second page) featuring the remorseful penitent. Is it really the same man, or – like in The Great Dictator – a look-alike?
---
Mn – That part about holy war and heroes rising from their graves, is it authentic? Did he really write that?
Ad – Yes, it’s taken from the first order of the Continuation War, summer 1941.
Mn – Oh dear. It sounds like either fundamentalism or psychosis. Probably a bit of both.
Jh – To me it sounds comic, like Monty Python making fun of narrow-minded patriotism.
Ad – Marski made many funny errors in Finnish, it was really not his best language. On his 75th birthday in 1942, he got congratulation cables from near and far. He expressed special delight in getting a cable from the neuvostovaltio, the soviet state. The chief of staff members present got a bit nervous. Had the Marski suddenly switched sides? Marski corrected himself, saying he meant to say the valtioneuvosto, the Finnish cabinet.
---
* This constituted a social divide, as Swedish was the language of the majority of high-ranking Finnish officers.
** Blending quotes from other people into the Marski flow of words, e.g. George Orwell, Howard Zinn and Charlie Chaplin, as well as from Finnish prime minister Sanna Marin and legendary cross-country skier/songwriter Mika Myllylä.

Reddit's tendency to turn every comment section into a string of pop culture references reminds me of that one really annoying family member who's always misquoting Monty Python at thanksgiving.

🐬📚🍰🎬🍦
🐬 if you could transform into any animal/magical creature, what would you be and why?
Let’s go with real animals this time. I would like to be a indoor cat. Never having to worry bout anything, getting to eat and sleepy all day, get lovings whenever I want. ^w^
📚 share 3 books that you love and your favorite quote from them.
Ugh, but my book shelf is ssssssssooooooo far away. Can I just list 3 and forgo the quotes? I don’t want to accidentally misquote it.
The Last Wish, Feed, and Ken Liu’s Paper Menagerie and Other Short Stories
🍰 what are some of your favorite sugary foods?
ALL THE SWEETS
🎬 what are some of your favorite films?
Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail, The Princess Bride, The Road to El Dorado, etc.
🍦 what is one treasured childhood memory?
I remember this one time at band camp... jk jk. I’ve never been to band camp. But I do remember some of my camp outs when I was in Boy Scouts. Some of them I didn’t treasure at the time, being an edgy teenager and all, but I do now and I kinda miss it.
