Early electronic music had to fight a lot? Well, I wouldn't go that far, yet I believe the early electronic musicians that tried to achieve the mainstream did have to encounter some resistance. I mean, check Jean-Jacques Perrey, he did a lot of melodic electronic music. However, he doesn't get mentioned for the same reason as Gershon Kingsley, i.e. their style seems way too cheerful for the machine tunes. That might be one of the reasons Kraftwerk continue to be prominent about in the category of the early electronica outfits, i.e. they fit a stereotype of cold robot – they fit, mind you, they aren't really like this at all, whereas Perrey seemed like a very funny man with a keyboard that made some hilarious noises.

Moog Indigo - Jean-Jacques Perrey
The Jean-Jacques Perry album Moog Indigo is this fantastic electronic album from 1970. This album is a mix of original songs and covers. My favorite song is Gossipo Perpetuo.

https://youtu.be/WklguzXdIC0 In 1971 when this video was aired on UK's ATV network, the sounds of the Moog synthesizer were still strange and otherworldly to most ears. This was the era of Wendy Carlos's "Switched-On Bach," Jean-Jacques Perrey's "Moog Indigo," and Gershon Kingsley's "Music to Moog By." I dig these experimental dancers modulating their bodies to… Sound & Music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WklguzXdIC0

JEAN-JACQUES PERREY - “E.V.A.”
While Jean-Jacques Perrey might not be a household name, this track may nonetheless ring a few bells for some of you, as it’s been heavily sampled since the release of Perrey’s 1970 album Moog Indigo. As the name implies, it’s a masterwork of early Moog synthesiser shenanigans, though it’s ultimately rooted in jazz and comes across as remarkably light and playful--a far cry from the spiky, baroque seriousness of contemporary Wendy Carlos, though no less influential and important, in the storied history of electronic music.

The electronic music tends to be more intense about the sonic changes, because the sound machinery that surrounds all the genres there evolves rapidly. Thus, many pioneers of the brand became retro later on with Jean-Jacques Perrey being a good case of that. His Moog Indigo followed his 60's, where he slowly modified the early electronica into a feasible style, though his 70's debut can be seen as more of the same. I agree, the early 70's didn't really find any use with the instruments he played with, but I fear Moog Indigo located him in the gimmick corner of the soundscape. I agree, Mr. Perrey probably didn't see this that way, he merely followed the context of the era that treates his pieces as a fairground attraction, but you know he was capable of much more.

(note - tumblr and general screen saturation may have made the image quality gross so idk for sure how good some of these look. unfortunately a lot of these were more desaturated palettes-)
boredom got the best of me while digitalizing some art so i decided to make some colour palettes based off of the minecraft ost because i regularly listen to it. specifically it's based off of what colours it immediately makes me think of (or the...closest of what i could do for it bc i think only Oxygene, Equinoxe, Mice on Venus, and Dry Hands are exactly accurate to what i imagined, the rest is kind of vague guessing as to what exactly those colours were)
i might do smth w/ these colour palettes, or at least the ones i like the most? idk i might redo some of these at some point if i can get more accurate colours - but here's the thought process behind all of 'em since i am in the mood to ramble. i am so sorry for those who choose to read my uncoordinated thoughts it is extremely messy /lh
1. Key & 2. Door - kind of mashed these two together because i cannot listen to one without listening to the other. they must go together in my mind idk why. it's a lighter colour palette with mostly warm colours as it makes me think of new beginnings and opportunity and that's what yellow/oranges make me think of when it's these songs
3. Subwoofer Lullaby - idk why but i always get the image of more desaturated colours when i listen to this song. like blues and greens especially. it's not even "oh this song sounds kind of somber" no it's just desaturated blue and green my guy
4. Death - idk if it's because of the background noise in this one but. yeah no this one has dark green and blue bc grass and water. dark desaturated red and beige for the chicken
5. Living Mice - this song always played whenever i was in a plains or plains-ish biome so. it also getting some form of blue and green was inevitable. this time it's slightly brighter since it's living mice though
6. Moog City - hehehe i love this song. it gives both light grey and white vibes w/ bright reds and blues at the same time, but with a hint of a slightly desaturated indigo
7. Haggstrom - i wanted to add grey because this song always makes me think of cobblestone for some reason but?? i could not find a way to make it work with the rest of the vibes this gave. but anyways most music box-esque sounding pieces give light yellow and blue vibes, the pink is simply because i remember this playing a lot whenever i played in creative mode (which was and still is. a lot) and for some reason pink gives me adventurous vibes in this song. or flight. idk
8. Minecraft - ik it's kind of boring but. yeah this was kind of just the basic grass block but it does give of very green vibes to me?? like sort of faded green and not like the green vibes Mutation gives me but it's green
9. Oxygene - evening sky sounding like...right after the sun isn't visible but you can still sort of see that light. idk if it makes sense but,
10. Equinoxe - idk if it's because i'm thinking of the dragon quest ix grotto boss or what but. yeah it's a dark midnight sky with blues/purples highlighted with faint yellows and silvers
11. Mice on Venus - it's a very fun and bright piece and therefore it gets pinks, oranges, and purples. especially at the second half of it
12. Dry Hands - like...the beginning just feels very brown to me idk. and the other parts accompanying it is a desaturated light blue
13. Wet Hands - i get a lot more from Dry Hands but. it's sort of similar, slightly more vibrant but as it goes on it gets a little more desaturated. idk
i do not think these make complete sense but this is the best i can explain some of these (if i make a part two the explanations will not be better i am sorry)

Exotic Moog - Martin Denny
Considering the number of albums from the late 1960s to the early 1970s with Moog in the title, the Moog synthesizer was a hit in terms of musical instruments. Due to the large amount of albums where the Moog synthesizer was a prominent instrument you have a wide variety of quality in albums that came out featuring the Moog; truly wonderful albums(Wendy Carlos albums of the era including Switched-On Bach and Sonic Seasonings, Mort Garson's albums, Moog Indigo by Jean-Jacques Perrey, and others), some bad albums(like Electronic Sound by George Harrison), and some albums I can best describe as quirky/kitschy (including albums like Country Moog by Gil Trythal and Everything You Always Wanted to Hear On the Moog * *but were afraid to ask for by the Mighty Moog). I think Exotic Moog pretty easily falls into the kitschy category, and it's a fun album to listen to! My favorite song is Quiet Village.
