"Too many, I'm certain," The softness of her voice belies the sorrow behind her words; their parting, heart-wrenching as it was, was nevertheless but a fraction of all the torment her beloved had to endure. For a century, no less. Isobel had to live in a world devoid of Aylin's light, or so she believed, only for a short time. She cannot imagine a hundred years of enduring such pain; she cannot imagine ever healing from such loss.

Her hands, far smaller, reach for her lover's own, guide Aylin's palm to cup her cheek, silvery gaze earnest as it seeks the other woman's eyes. A silent reply: you have to wish no longer. I am here, we are here. All may not be right in the world, but this, at least, was. Neither sorrow nor longing need exist between them now; for as long as they are together — for as long as Isobel lives — she knows they will not be apart again.

"I couldn't imagine a life without this — without you," A tender kiss planted upon her lover's hand, eyes closed as her lips linger. Aylin's warmth is comforting; it had always been, but Isobel cannot help but wonder whether that is made more intense by their separation or death, still clinging to her. In the end, it does not matter. Very little matters but the woman in front of her. "Now I don't have to."

how heavy these words are, after what her goddess ( is she even that to her anymore? ) has long taught her. nightsongs' -- no, dame aylin's words leave her at a stand still for a long moment.

she's not alone?

loss, being by herself, it's all she's ever known. perhaps not, given the fact of her memory, so willingly ( was it? was it really? ) given away for the sake of the mission. this pain, what she's always thought to be a test, to prove herself to lady shar -- why does it suddenly feel so wrong now? why did she still her hand in the most crucial moment?

why was it that one memory she has, that always lingers, aylin knew about? it wasn't wolves, but her father.

' you promise? ' she wants to ask. she wants to be frail and weak, just once, and not feel so alone like she has for so many years. even now, shar's voice doesn't guide -- torment her, and perhaps that is the cruelest strike the dark lady could grant. to have shadowheart feel like she is alone for such a decision she's made.

yet as she stands now before aylin ( and isobel ) she feels nothing but a warmth : welcoming.

" i ... thank you. " voice small, she bows her head in some sort of respect. a part of her expects the wound on her hand to burn, but there's nothing. another fear of the silence of lady shar.

Chapter 3: moonspear and firelight

The roar of people is entirely overwhelming.  Viktor has never seen anything like it. They gather and cheer on rooftops and alleys and along the river. Enforcers clad in their righteous uniforms form a blockade to keep citizens from encroaching any closer as Viktor and Jayce are whisked inside an ornate stone building.  His skin pricks underneath his clothes when his stranger-husband’s hand rests against the small of his back. His grip is strong and gentle. It’s what Viktor assumes is some kind of public gesture of union and protection to his people. Viktor is unused to being touched, and it leaves him even more flustered. He leans heavily on his cane on the final step, and then is stopped by Jayce with a hand gripping his wrist.  When he looks up from the ground he notices a group of very official looking beings, whom he assumes are the Council. They examine them expectantly.  Jayce leans in, and Viktor is again startled by his sudden closeness. He can’t help but gawk at the strange silver markings that sweep across his forehead like a crown. Though he'd noticed them before, Viktor can now feel the arcane’s presence beckoning the closer Jayce gets, and an overwhelming curiosity stirs in him. Jayce creases his brow with a look of confusion on his face before whispering near his ear with gritted teeth. “They want us to acknowledge the crowd.”  Viktor glances about, his stomach turning, heart rate quickening, and thoughts jumbled and half-formed.  “There’s so many of them,” he says through what he hopes is a sufficiently friendly expression towards the crowd. Apparently not.  “Relax your face,” Jayce chastens. “You look as if I am taking you hostage.”

How did Runescar get her scar? 👀

When she was still a kit, together with her sister, there was a huge storm coming from the seas. With thunder and lightning it went on for days. Tragedy struck, and the tree above the nursery was struck by lightning, catching on fire, and setting the nursery below to flames. The nursing queen's hurried their kits out, all but orphaned Greykit and her sister Thornkit.

A brave young warrior, Moonspear, who had just held his watch less than a moon ago, ran into the flames, determined to save both of them. When he finally returned, with ashes and burns covering his body, his lungs filled with smoke, Thornkit had already stopped breathing. Greykit didn't look any better, her pelt gone in many spots, one eye gone beyond saving. But, the healers were able to heal her wounds, to get her back to life.

She later found out the clan had burried her sister at the old stones, together with Moonspear, who sadly didn't make it either.

“ perhaps i got a bit ahead of myself, ” seepishly does shadowheart stand before her. a pair of scissors in one hand, remains of her hair in another. least, if nothing else, her bangs look decent so far. “ would you be able to spare time? there’s a lot of hair … and dye. ”

To say the two had gotten along from the start would have been a lie. Shadowheart was none too keen on relying on the Moonmaiden's protection, nor on being any more civil than the situation demanded; but it had been a shared sentiment. A sharran and a selûnite could scarcely be expected to act differently toward one another.

But she knew, as well, that there was more to the other woman than that — else the Lady of Silver would not have extended her blessing to Shadowheart at all. A sentiment soon proven right as more of the other cleric's story was revealed, even to herself. Shar had taken everything from her; it was time to reclaim what had been stolen. And what best way to start than with herself?

Isobel's silvery gaze is empathetic. A change in appearance may not be enough, but she knows the real change had already started, inner rather than outer. She is glad of it; many years may have been taken from Shadowheart, many choices, many experiences, but her future could yet be reclaimed, and she was willing to do it. The hair was not the change; it was the declaration of it, an announcement made for all around her of the path she intended to follow.

The half smile makes it obvious Shadowheart has come to the right person, more than willing to offer her aid. "It's a good start," The compliment isn't meant as mere comfort; the bangs frame her face nicely — bring out her beauty, despite how simple the change is. "I cannot say I'm quite experienced with hair dye, but I surely have the time, and two pairs of hands will surely make this easier, yes?"

Her footsteps are quiet as she approaches, taking her place behind Shadowheart. "May I?" Hand half reaching for the raven-colored locks, the question is more an announcement than a request for permission, when that had been granted before. Allowed to continue, Isobel runs her fingers through dark hair gently, unsurprised to find it already detangled. Carefully does she part it, and more carefully still would she go on to aid in applying the dye. They have plenty of time; the selûnite sees no reason for it to be spent in complete silence, much less when she meant to say the words eventually, regardless.

"I think it's brave of you to embrace change — to make your life your own. It's not an easy thing to do. I admire your courage, Shadowheart." A half smile, concealed from the other as it may be. "Something tells me the change in appearance will suit you well." But then again, what wouldn't?

Ishnu alah! Really appreciate your website detail on applicant expectations, specifically about the adherence to headcanon (still scarred from RPing w/someone who said they were half-druid/satyr). I wanted to ask what the general interaction is with the older Kaldorei with the "recent" acceptance of Highborne back in Kaldorei society? My druid is a little gruff around any magic users based on Kaldorei history, are there others who may feel similarly, or would this be unusual among your members?

Ishnu’alah Anonymous! It has been over half a decade since the Shen’dralar, led by Mordent Evenshade, returned to kaldorei society. In that time, there was some unrest (Wolfheart Novel) and there are certainly plenty of night elves who are still cautious around shen’dralar highborne. So your own druid’s gruffness would not be viewed as odd. That said, there is also evidence that many if not most of the shen’dralar highborne and new arcanists taught at the Tower of Estulan are in fairly good standing within kaldorei society. We witness this in Battle for Azeroth, beginning with the War of the Thorns where Darnassian Mages have joined the ranks of the Sentinel Army. 

The leader of the Shen’dralar Highborne, Mordent Evenshade, also makes an appearance in the Battle for Darkshore scenario and warfront. 

Former Priestess of the Moon, Vestia Moonspear, has also opted to relinquish her mantle as a priestess of the moon to study the arcane among the highborne. Her case is particularly curious, but it is one of the few clues we’ve been given to determine how kaldorei society is slowly opening up to their long-lost brethren. 

Characters who are gruff are welcome in Silver Circle, provided they have good reason and aren’t immovable in their stance. Where civil unrest and/or darker themes such as hatred are concerned, we prefer to see those develop in characters over time. If a character becomes far-gone and lashes out at other members based solely on things such as prejudice or xenophobia, they are usually called to trial before the Circle during Council Glade to account for their actions. 

All of that said, we are very adamant about correspondence OOC where internal tensions are concerned for story and character development. While our characters are from another world and should be permitted to stay true to themselves, it’s important to balance their IC responses with OOC communication to ensure everyone involved in a roleplay scene is still enjoying themselves.
