For many years I happily worked with my father, performing beautiful dances and shows as the strange and fascinating living doll until one day during WWII while performing in an underground bunker he failed to show up alongside his brother Luca. When I saw Luca watching me alone I knew something terrible had happened and after my show he told me I was left in his care and from then on we were inseparable. As a vampire he could remain by my side forever and as my father's prodigy he could mend my body when needed. After decades of being together we eventually began to fall in love romantically and our relationship was formed.

Alrighty, so... Im going to be honest, and a bit personal with this update!

A couple of you have probably noticed I'm not doing many Audios at the moment, besides the voices acting requests which had just ended yesterday or so!

I'm very sorry about that, I decided to sit down and start recording about an hour ago, but something just felt wrong. I sat for about an hour thinking it through, and thinking of what I should do. And I won't lie, I Think i need to take a break for a couple days!

This has nothing to do with Welcomehome or the Fandom, this is mostly about me and my Health in general! Over the past couple days I've been feeling extremely upset, down, and overall exhausted. Just basically, unhappy with myself.

Along with that my physical health hasn't been doing very well either. I won't get super into it, but it's caused me a lot of issues and delays the past couple days, which has effected my sleep.

There have been many issues going on in my life outside of tumblr that have been weighing me down emotionally, mentally, and physically. And that makes it incredibly hard to keep working. I have tried to push through it, but I'm very sure that is only making it worse.

In short, I just need to take a break for a couple days! Not forever! Just a bit. I will still be as active as I can and might come on to post any art I may make, but I will have to close down my requests as I've gotten over 60 pending audio requests, and that is by far not an exaggeration. I love your guys requests, but goodness they build up very quickly! Haha!

I've been overworking myself, as I've been told by my friends and today, by my own family. I have a habit of doing that, it's a bad habit that I'm trying to break.

Thank you all so much for the support you've given me, you've been truly amazing! I will be back when I can, and I'll still be active around here since this page is honestly such a comfort to me! I just need to put the microphone down for a little, you know??

I love you all very much! Please, do not worry about me! I can and will take care of everything, and am meeting with you a therapist this weekend! So please trust me when I say! Jon worried at first how the men would take his orders. He could always wield his authority like a blade, but that didn’t seem a wise approach here. Something told him to employ the same approach he’d used when trying to win Sansa. Northern acceptance would only come with loyalty won.

There’s a new Persuasion film and everybody hates it. So I’m watching it. And will post about it.

I’m about 3 minutes in and… this is a romcom (not a complaint , just a description). So I’m assuming this adaptation would be closer to Clueless being Emma, than the 1995 Persuasion being Persuasion.

The art department in this film! Beautiful atmosphere, beautiful colours and we open with Anne’s father in a ✨ perfect ✨ banyan.

OK OK OK, I HAVE TO SHOW YOU WHAT I’VE BEEN WORKING ON TODAY

There’s this plant called Bedstraw (Galium sp.) that is related to Madder (Rubia tinctorum) which is one of THE traditional dyes used since ancient times in Europe and Asia for making red/orange dyes. Bedstraw can be used the same way! 

After taking a short class on natural dying at my local LARP and figuring out what mordanting is, I felt like I was ready to finally dye something! 

First I dug up some bedstraw and cleaned the roots. This is where the pigment comes from! I ended up with waaaay more than I need.

Next, I boiled the roots in a big pot with enough water to cover. 

I’m not actually sure if you’re supposed to bring the water to a full boil. Madder is a tricky dye that can produce colors ranging from bright red/pink, to yellowy orange, to brown, and there are all kinds of tricks for getting the shade you want involving temperature and pH. I threw some soda ash in to raise the pH because I read that somewhere, and forgot basically everything else! Living on a prayer! 

So much dye I had to use every spare container! I boiled the roots until the water was nearly black, then strained off the liquid into containers. Then I added more water and boiled again. (Apparently the color can shift through various batches, so I wrote down which batch it was on the labels.)

Next, we scour and mordant the fabric. Scouring just means simmering it with a bunch of soda ash for an hour or so to clean it really good. Strips out all the.... uh.... *tries to remember research* stuff. Yep. Gets all the stuff out. 

Mordanting is basically the same thing in the sense of “boil the fabric again but with different stuff,” only instead of stripping the fabric, you’re adding stuff back. Stuff that will help the dye stick to the fabric.  

Wool and other protein-based fibers (ex. silk) are much easier to dye than cellulose-based fibers from plants (ex. cotton). But my project is a waxed-canvas pouch. Canvas. Cellulose. Of course I had to make this hard for myself. 

And APPARENTLY (I read this after I’d already started making my dye, hours before I was supposed start dyeing) you can’t JUST mordant cotton with alum, you need to TANNIN it, too!!! @#$$^%@!! 

Back outside to grab some twigs off an oak tree! 

How much tannin is in this many oak twigs? How long do I need to boil the twigs to extract it? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯¯\_(ツ)_/¯¯\_(ツ)_/¯¯\_(ツ)_/¯¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Simmer the canvas in oak-juice for a few hours, then in an alum bath, and FINALLY it’s prepped for dyeing! 

I THINK IT DID IT RIGHT BECAUSE THIS IS AFTER ONLY ABOUT 10 MINUTES IN THE DYEBATH!!! 

And it’s a nice red-orange color, which feels like a huge success! Anything but muddy brown is a success in my book! (The canvas itself is an unbleached beige color, so the end result is sort of an orange-brown, but hey--) 

NATURALLY I HAD TO TRY THIS WITH WOOL, TOO!!!! 

I have some plain white wool, so I grabbed a sample size of it, stuck it in a mordant bath without bothering to scour (I made the possibly foolish assumption that it's pre-scoured since I bought it from a woman who sells hand-dyed wools.... so she very well might pre-treat all her wool?)

BUT HEY IT SEEMS TO HAVE WORKED??? BECAUSE LOOK AT THAT BEAUTIFUL BRIGHT ORANGE!!! YESSSSSS.

Golly... It's been a day!

Sorry I can't get any audios your for today, my loves! 6-7 hour drive, dinner with friends, went to see a memorial, it was Great! But goodness I'm.. Exhausted! Haha!

(And I don't think my roommate/friend would enjoy me doing wally impressions at nearly 11pm-)

I'll try to see if I can tomorrow either in the morning or evening, but I'm leaving to go touring from 8am to 10pm! Lots of stuff to do this week!!

We started sorting out that bunch of stuff from my parents’ place today; here are a few wee highlights:

A clock with cats instead of numbers that I’ve had for almost as long as I’ve been obsessed with cats, so most of my life (it ticks very loudly, as I well remember from years of it hanging in my bedroom as a child)

A hanging window decoration I made when my aunt was teaching us kids how to solder (it came out pretty good and is hanging in our conservatory now)
