Crossfire M9PLUS DSP Review: Upgrade Crisp Car Audio
Tumblr media
It's about time to say goodbye to my 8-year-old Match DSP in the previous car audio setup, as the old DSP has shown some faulty symptoms for over 2 years. I have had the Match DSP repaired twice due to an internal IC component problem, but the issue keeps coming back, resulting in no sound from the right speaker. I've had enough and decided to find a new standalone digital sound processor that is affordable and won't break my bank. I stumbled upon the locally made Crossfire M9Plus DSP and would like to give it a try.The build of the Crossfire M9Plus DSP sound processor caught my attention. It comes in a matte green color and has a solid metal case. Known as the CF-M9PLUS, the 8-channel DSP features include a built-in 4.2 lossless Bluetooth and SQ player, 31 Band floating Point EQ, mobile phone and PC accuracy tuning, built-in media player USB Port, digital crossover functions, and many more. While there are other Crossfire DSP models that have built-in amplifiers, my installer suggested I get the M9Plus standalone DSP since I already have a Rockford Fosgate 4-channel amplifier. I've also upgraded to Morel 2.5-inch full-range speakers, which I currently have mounted on my original pillar.
The Crossfire M9plus DSP - High-Definition Lossless Car Digital Audio
The Crossfire DSP stands out as a high-definition lossless car digital audio player, designed to elevate your in-car audio experience to new heights. It brings exceptional sound quality by playing USB Audio high-definition digital audio and supporting Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connectivity. This means you can enjoy your favorite music with unparalleled clarity and fidelity, regardless of the source. At the heart of the M9plus DSP lies an advanced 8-channel Digital Signal Processor (DSP). This powerful component enables precise signal processing, resulting in a cleaner background and more transparent sound. With this DSP, you have the ability to finely tune your audio output, tailoring it to your preferences and the acoustics of your vehicle's interior.Tailoring your audio to perfection is made possible with the Crossfire DSP's impressive equalization and filtering capabilities. It features a 31-band EQ (Equalizer) that allows you to adjust the audio output with remarkable precision, with resolution down to 0.1dB. Additionally, each output is equipped with full active high and low pass filtering, offering three professional filtering types and adjustable slopes.
Optional SQ Player
The M9Plus DSP offers a range of connectivity features, including Bluetooth 5.0 for wireless audio streaming. Additionally, it supports USB Audio HD lossless digital music playback, allowing you to enjoy your favorite tunes via apps and devices. This connectivity ensures that you can seamlessly integrate your preferred audio sources into your in-car experience. The Crossfire DSP comes with an optional SQ Player/remote control CF-R10 that can be connected, controlled, and used to play Hi-Res audio directly from USB ports, the head unit, and other audio sources. The small SQ player comes with volume control, previous/next track selection, and 6 music mode switches, including Player, High, AUX, and Bluetooth. Playing music directly from a USB drive provides better sound quality than streaming music from your mobile phone and will sound slightly better than playing from a standard head unit.
The Test on Crossfire DSP
As usual, RS-Pro Auto Accessories in Kepong, an award-winning car accessories shop in Malaysia, fine-tuned this setup, and I may return to Keong for another round of fine-tuning for the new DSP.Regarding audio testing on the Crossfire M9plus DSP, I tested it using a USB drive loaded with FLAC audio files, ranging from K-pop ballads and jazz to pop music, and my new DSP really shines. The sound is bright, and the vocals are clear. However, some fine-tuning still needs to be done compared to my previous Match DSP tuning. The audio settings for M9Plus prioritize bright vocals, making it necessary for me to turn up the volume to hear the bass. While assessing Taeyeon's Top Hits playlist for vocals testing, I found some songs sound bright with my Morel full-range speaker. I am not sure whether it is the tuning or the source file, but I will test it more and listen for a while before going back to the tuner for a second round of fine-tuning. You know, the first tuning is only a starting point.
My Current SQ Setup
- Rockford Fosgate 4-channel amplifier - Morel 2.5" Full Range Speaker - Morel Maximo 6.5" Component Speakers - Crossfire M9Plus DSP - Monoblock Amplifier - Rockford Fosgate 10" Subwoofer
Conclusion
In the end, I am quite satisfied with the newly installed DSP and am having fun listening to my favorite music in my car. With the SQ Player controller, I can play FLAC music directly from a USB drive, which makes it convenient and easy to get high-quality music in the meantime.Installing the Crossfire DSP is a breeze, thanks to its dedicated wiring harness. You can find out and learn how SQ car audio works. This harness is specifically designed for seamless integration into your vehicle's audio system, ensuring that the installation process does not require breaking or modifying existing wires. This convenient "plug and play" approach makes upgrading your car's audio capabilities hassle-free.
Tumblr media
Available on Buy on Shopee Fine-tuning your audio setup is made effortless with the M9plus DSP. You can perform tuning and adjustments using both a PC and a phone. This accessibility means you can refine your audio output to match your preferences without the need for complex setups or specialized equipment. The Crossfire DSP empowers you with control and customization options that enhance your audio experience. You can adjust the phase of each output at 0 or 180 degrees, and finely tune delays with accuracy down to 1mm. Six adjustment modes and the ability to store scenes provide flexibility in adapting the audio to different listening scenarios.Overall, the Crossfire M9plus DSP appears to be a comprehensive solution for improving in-car audio quality, offering a range of features for signal processing, equalization, connectivity, and user control. Budget and high-quality car audio in regular Kia Sportage 5
# #acoustics #howtochoose #sportage5 #substitutionacoustics #
The problem with the sound in the KIA Sportage 5 is changing all the acoustics (all the speakers). Which acoustics to choose - one of the most preferred options (price-quality-volume-reliability) is the Morel Ultra series.
We change the acoustics in the doors (front component, rear coaxial) and change the standard subwoofer, and we add a separate single-channel sound amplifier (monoblock) to the subwoofer. The music literally started playing better. We took the acoustics quite powerful, since further on the plan a processor sound amplifier will be installed, with a channel connection.
One of the most common questions - is it necessary to make noise at the door - is the answer in our video?
By tradition, at the beginning and end of the video, the system is tapped.
Taking care of you and your car.

LIS Audio How-To: Choosing Signal Processors and Line-Out Converters
Introduction Are you looking to upgrade the factory stereo system, without changing the source unit (radio, navigation system), but don’t have the RCA connections needed to expand the aftermarket sound system? Are you confused as to which type of signal processor, or line-out converter, maybe best for your scenario? When it comes to adding aftermarket amplifiers to a factory source unit (radio),…

Two Weeks in the TARDIS - The Third Doctor
Welcome to Two Weeks in the TARDIS! I’m talking about the different versions of the titular protagonist from “Doctor Who.” Each day I’ll be covering a different Doctor, going in order from the First to the Thirteenth.
If you could ever call one of these characters “The James Bond of Doctor Who,” I think today’s topic is a good start. This is the Third Doctor, Jon Pertwee!
Tumblr media
BACKGROUND
In Patrick Troughton’s final adventure, his fate was actually left ominously ambiguous. After his companions had their minds wiped (later episodes and audio plays would indicate they eventually got their memories back, I believe), he was sent hurtling through space and time by his own people, the Time Lords. So, when the show returned the following season - now in full color for the first time (the previous six seasons had all been in monochrome) - people weren’t really sure what to expect. The creators of the series had decided that, as well as bringing in a new face for the Doctor AND the novelty of color, they would also change the series format. Taking inspiration from both James Bond and another popular sci-fi series, “Quatermass” (which I know nothing about except that Dr. Watson himself, Andre Morell, was apparently the main character), the series officially grounded the Gallifreyan. Exactly what killed the Second Doctor was unclear, but for much of this era, the new Third Doctor - played by Jon Pertwee (father of Sean Pertwee) - was unable to travel, and was instead enlisted by the military organization UNIT to help them deal with alien threats and other strange things. This era lasted a LONG time, too: Jon Pertwee, in fact, is the second longest-lasting Doctor out of them all. The Third Doctor’s time on TV lasted for five seasons; again, most Doctors only got three, and some - as we shall see in the future - didn’t even get that much! The latter two seasons would see the Doctor more mobile, but even then, he was still on UNIT’s payroll, and usually his adventures were missions for them or even his fellow Time Lords, whom he was continually trying to appease, under the circumstances. It really wouldn’t be until the following Doctor’s era that the show would truly and properly return to its usual format and sense of style.
Tumblr media
PERSONALITY
Jon Pertwee, at the time, was mostly known as a comedic actor, and so - given the usual pattern of the Doctor’s personality - you would expect him to be a very funny character. And while it’s true that Pertwee did have a sense of humor all his own, the ironic thing is that his Doctor is NOT particularly quirky or bizarre most of the time. Next to William Hartnell, many would argue that Pertwee is the single most serious Doctor of the whole bunch. Pertwee wanted to try and break the mold of his comical persona, so he used the Doctor’s genius as a way to try and combat that. This Doctor, despite his appearance, was a man of action: obsessed with gadgets and gizmos of all kinds, he was always tinkering up new toys to use to fight his enemies. He loved driving sporty cars, motorcycles, and just about everything else that ran on gasoline: most famous was a suped-up oldsmobile he affectionately called “Bessie,” which I personally consider to be right up there with such vehicles as the Batmobile and any of the James Bond spy cars as among the most iconic roadsters in mass media. He was also surprisingly gifted in martial arts and swordsmanship: again, the influence from Bond is evident, with the more “action-adventure” feeling of the series with Pertwee at the forefront. Philosophically, the Doctor was something of a contradiction in terms. Despite his penchant for magic tricks and unusual sense of taste, he was ultimately rather strict and authoritarian, commanding his allies rather than simply letting them run alongside him, so to speak. He was confident and powerful, always sure of his own abilities, swaggering and striding from scene to scene. Ironically, however, throughout this Doctor’s era, the character would prove to be exceptionally ANTI-authoritarian; he’s always the first to question figures in charge when they do things he doesn’t agree with. Throughout this era, the show would tackle numerous social and moral dilemnas in a more direct way than before, from things like environmental awareness to the difficulties of war. It is perhaps best to say that the Doctor was critical of WRONGFUL authority: when he felt people were abusing or misusing their power, he would call them out on it, all while charismatically leading his allies into the charge.
Tumblr media
COSTUME
Much like with Hartnell, much of Pertwee’s eccentricities lay in his sense of style and dress. This was the first Doctor who didn’t really have one wrote “costume” to rely upon. Later incarnations would change their outfits in subtle ways from time to time, but would generally keep the same basic look the entire time. Pertwee, however, functions a bit differently: his Doctor has an entire WARDROBE to choose from, rarely dressing in the same costume twice in a row. All of his outfits, however, are oddly anachronistic - again, much like Hartnell. He dresses in an almost Victorian manner, and is very flowery and dandified in his sense of dress. (Hartnell’s First Doctor, in fact, would refer to him and Troughton respectively as “A Dandy and a Clown” in “The Three Doctors.”) The Doctor frequently dressed in multicolored tight-fitting outfits of crushed velvet, with frilly shirts and shiny dress shoes. Occasionally, though not always, he would wear capes or overcoats, not to mention the infrequent fedora hat. The odd thing about Pertwee’s outfits is that they are rather absurd in their own way, standing out drastically against EVERYONE else...yet somehow, he makes them work, and you have no trouble buying that this Doctor is able to do the things he does in them. Any silliness they have is part of their charm, and hint at that odd wit the Third Doctor has just by looking at them.
Tumblr media
NOTABLE COMPANIONS
Given his “grounded” state of affairs, working as UNIT’s chief scientist, the Third Doctor didn’t have typical “companions” so much as “colleagues.” His first female companion was Liz Shaw - a fellow scientist who had been UNIT’s ORIGINAL scientific advisor until the Doctor came along. She only lasted one season - evidently leaving out of jealousy - and was replaced by Jo Grant: a sparky but dimwitted young lady who became, once again, one of the longest-running companions in Doctor Who history. She lasted three seasons, before being replaced by Sarah Jane Smith...and we’ll be talking about HER in a later entry. ;) While all of these lovely ladies were excellent, my personal favorite of the Third Doctor’s companions (and I DO consider him a companion; there seems to be some minor debate there) was The Brigadier. Played by Nicholas Courtney, Brigadier Alastair Lethbridge Stewart - frequently simply called “The Brigadier” or even “The Brig” - was the leader of UNIT, and therefore effectively the Doctor’s boss. However, since the Doctor was...well...THE DOCTOR, the two would often quarrel about whose authority overruled the other. There were several points where the Brigadier would make decisions that almost seemed like outright betrayals, but his own frustrations with the arrogant Time Lord were not exactly unjustified. The Brigadier was a recurring character in Troughton’s era, and one of the main protagonists throughout Pertwee’s time in the show, given the new format. Once the Third Doctor’s era ended, he would remain a recurring character throughout pretty much the entirety of the Classic era, appearing at least once or twice in every Doctor’s time aside from the Sixth. Nicholas Courtney would also reprise the character in audio plays up until his tragic death, and the character has even been referenced numerous times in the modern era. While the Doctor and the Brig never saw ENTIRELY eye to eye, over the course of the entire show - and especially this specific era - they would become closer and closer, and by the time of the Brigadier’s permanent departure, Lethbridge Stewart had become possibly the single best friend the Doctor ever had.
Tumblr media
RECOMMENDED VIEWING
Without hesitation, my recommendation goes to “Terror of the Autons.” In my opinion, it’s one of the most definitive stories of the Pertwee era, and it is my personal favorite for the Third Doctor. It features the first appearance of the Doctor’s arch-nemesis, The Master (played by Roger Delgado here), as the villain teams-up with one of my favorite monsters from the show, the Autons (who REALLY need to make a comeback, in my opinion; we haven’t seen them in almost two decades). The Doctor gets grouchy with authority figures, all while helping out the Brigadier and UNIT, and alongside the Master, we get the first appearance of Jo Grant. A great start for anybody who wants to learn more about this unique point in the show’s history. Next time, we’ll discuss the Fourth Doctor, Tom Baker: the Longest-Lasting Doctor.

Review: Banlieue 13 is a huge housing project on the outskirts of Paris, and the government is planning to eradicate what it sees as an impoverished and criminal hotbed. In 2004, scrap metal and multi-racial residents, led by lofty cops and high-flying street performers, made an entertainingly grim discovery during an operation in the B13 Sleeper District. The place simply does not come to rest: Here is one of the most notorious slums in the world with more than 100,000 inhabitants.
The Shangri-La ghetto is again under siege by the government, and damn it, these poor, agile, muscular, armed thugs are also human beings. District 13 ultimatum, it is still under the control of the French National Police, the police of the French capital.
There is no reason why such a perverse conspiracy should work twice, and in terms of plausibility, it is so strange that it does.
It is 2016, and B13 is not mentioned in the New York Times or any other major news program. They seem to have written a story a few years ago about the "B13" and its connection to the terrorist attacks in Paris, but that was in 2014, a year before the events of September 11, 2001.
Written by Luc Besson, the plot is almost as jacked up as the physical, and in the case of the Aryans, their weapons are embedded in their biceps. With hip-hop beats hammering the soundtrack, cameras fly through the city, observing people, cars, houses, buildings, people and even cars themselves. A developer named Harriburton wants to rebuild the bourgeoisie, intelligence chief Daniel Duval argues insanely and seductively for destruction, and President Philippe Torreton, limp and dovish, agrees to humanely evict the 1 million inhabitants of the B13. Fortunately, unscrupulous teenagers film what turns out to be incriminating material. With videos of Africans shooting at police cars circulating across France, the government is pursuing a plan to rid Paris of the "B13" once and for all.
The ultimatum spends its last half reuniting the stars of the first film, but where are the cops? Damien jumps into action and does a few yoga moves while using the guard's phone to call his ex-girlfriend, a young woman in prison. He was convicted of heroin possession and imprisoned before being acquitted to continue his sordid magic with the Secret Service.
In addition, everyone works their way through their respective roles in the film quite effectively, even if they are not always the best.
In too many action films, the cutters don't give you airy skills like these, and you have to jump off rooftops and slide through walls while eventually wearing only sneakers and sweatpants. A tattooed pretty boy, whose hair is gelled with feathers, lets you chase after him until the end of the film. The ultimatum, Patrick Alessandrin more or less follows Besson's instructions, and no female body double is required. Whereas the predecessor was directed by Pierre Morel (who later also directed it), the sequel lacks the same level of detail as Raffaelli's handling of the original film.
It is true that the bickering between the warlords of B13 is repugnant, but the ultimatum makes sweet, radical sense when it is put forward by the president and everything goes through in the name of the country. It is the first action film in which the bomb serves no humanitarian purpose, and it reminds us of how the state exists to destroy the poor.

Best 6.5-Inch Component Speaker
When you’re ready to upgrade your vehicle’s audio system, how do you know which kind of speakers you should get?
For starters, many people often confuse coaxial speakers with component speakers. However, they’re quite different. In this guide, we’re going to review the best 6.5-inch component speakers. The main reason why component speakers are so popular is because they give you greater control over your audio experience and better-quality sound.
best 6.5-Inch Component Speaker
Please note: we have another article about 6.5-inch coaxial speakers here. In short, a coaxial speaker contains a mid-range and a tweeter all together in one piece. In a component-speaker set, your woofer, tweeter and often even the crossover are all separate parts.

Morel Maximo – Best for the Money Morel Maximo 6 .5 component speakers review Manufactured in Israel, Morel has a long-standing reputation for making high-fidelity speakers that give quality sound. Their Maximo line is a range of excellent entry-level component speakers. This component set contains two mids, two crossovers, two tweeters and two woofers.
🙊 Useful Info: When playing music that requires a stronger mid-range and mid-bass, this set performs well. If your budget is anywhere between $100 to $200 maximum, then it’s hard to find a component set that would give you better sound quality than this one.
👍🏻 Pros They produce crystal-clear and warm sound, even when amplified and turned up full blast. It’s extremely hard to blow out these speakers. The mids are smooth and clean. The tweeter holders are removable, making them easier to install. 👎🏻 Cons The speakers lack tweeter-attenuation options. The only way to turn down the tweeters is to adjust the treble and bass settings in your head unit. Make sure you have the room for them. Read Verified Customer Reviews Go to the Top 2. Infinity REF6520CX – Best Budget Speakers Infinity Reference 6520cx Review People love how this set gives you a great sound upgrade from the original manufacturer’s speakers. Instead of paper cones and fairly small magnets like you find on the originally installed speakers, this set has fiberglass cones and magnets that are almost three times larger and heavier.
🙊 Useful Info: 👍🏻 Pros Speakers work nicely for factory head units and you may also upgrade later with an amp if you like. Clear sound with no harsh highs and prevalent midrange. Sound much better then OEM speakers. 👎🏻 Cons Don’t expect the bass on this Infinity set to sound like 12-inch woofers. The manufactures made this set to accommodate an average pitch range only. Crossover could be smaller. Will require extra speaker wire and connectors to complete mount Read Verified Customer Reviews Go to the Top 3. Focal PS165F Flax – High-End Component Speakers Focal PS165F Flax Review Even if you’re driving with the windows down, you’ll still hear your music loudly and clearly with this premium 6.5 component set.
You can crank your tunes up to the maximum volume, and you still get sound neutral and clear.
This set includes two mid-bass parts, two tweeters and two crossovers. Although the RMS rating for input capability says 70 Watts, they do handle more power well. Customers can use them at 100 Watts RMS daily without a problem if they have an amplifier tuned correctly.
👍🏻 Pros Detailed and crisp sound with beautiful imaging. Great midbass. Well built. 👎🏻 Cons Crossover wires are too short. Need to be professionally installed. Read Verified Customer Reviews Go to the Top 4. JBL CLUB6500C – Can Play Without Amp JBL CLUB6500C Review If you want a reasonably priced speaker set to replace your car’s standard factory speakers, then this JBL model is a good deal. They operate at a lower ohm rating so you can power them with an OEM radio.
They’re not for high-fidelity enthusiasts, but they sound great for most people listening to popular music. You can expect a good response from the mid-bass with clear vocals and a fairly warm sound overall.
This set includes two woofers, two tweeters and all the installation parts you need, like mounting brackets and screws. Remember to check that you have the right speaker-wire adapters for your vehicle beforehand to avoid wiring problems.
If you’re a true audiophile, then you’ll probably think the sound from this set isn’t very powerful on its own. It can take a month or so to “break in” the bass. If you want to blast music, then you’ll want to buy an additional amplifier and subwoofer with this. Buyers recommend getting a subwoofer larger than 8 inches to go with it.
👍🏻 Pros Smooth, precise and attention to detail sound. The tweeters are bright. Tiny crossover. 👎🏻 Cons Weak, mediocre midbass. Although it comes with screws to help you install it, they’re very cheap ones. You’re better off buying stronger screws on your own to secure them. Read Verified Customer Reviews Go to the Top 5. Rockford P165SI – Without External Crossover, Integrated Concealed Crossover Rockford P165SI Review The main advantage to this set is that because it has a hidden crossover, you won’t need to mount any of those black boxes you’d normally have with other systems. Plus, this set definitely has more power than most factory-installed car speakers. It offers a high dynamic range almost like an expander would, so the music gets a lot louder even when you turn the volume up just a little.
They don’t need an amplifier to sound good if you prefer music without much bass. Still, you should note that the internal crossover dims down most bass frequencies because it’s supposed to work with an additional amplifier and subwoofer. Do not mistake this set for coaxial or full-range speakers because they’re not the same.
When you order it, you’re getting a total of four speakers, or two mids and two tweeters.
👍🏻 Pros Clarity of sound with stock head unit. This set is better than other Rockford models if you don’t have much space in your vehicle for an external crossover. Easy install. 👎🏻 Cons They require an extra amplifier and subwoofer to get any strong bass out of them. The tweeter’s mounting system in this set is not the easiest to install. Consider getting a professional to set it up for you if you don’t have much experience installing car speakers. Read Verified Customer Reviews Go to the Top 6. Alpine R-Series R-S65C – Dependable Performance at a Decent Price Alpine R-S65C Review Alpine is a well-trusted brand of speakers in the music community. BMW and Mercedes factories have often had Alpine speakers inside them for good reason.
Buyers have commented that listening to their music on these speakers while driving is almost like being in a concert hall.
This set comes with two subwoofers, two tweeters and two external crossovers.
👍🏻 Pros Sound quality is good enough for you to blast these speakers without any distortion. Unlike other speakers in this price range, it doesn’t sound too bright. They have a strong mid-range. 👎🏻 Cons Audiophiles should really get a good equalizer system to connect it with to control the mid-range sound. Otherwise, the audio can get too brassy. You need a powerful amplifier to drive these if you want to get the most sound out of them. Read Verified Customer Reviews Go to the Top 7. Kicker 43CSS654 CSS65 – Best Sound with a 50 Watt-Per-Channel Amp Kicker 43CSS654 CSS65 Review Kicker made this set with polypropylene cones that feature both ribbed and UV-treated surrounds. Set at a very affordable price, these speakers are powerful, taking 100 Watts RMS each.
Please note that this component systems really needs a 50 Watt-per-channel amplifier at the minimum for you to get the full audio experience from them.
This set features two tweeters, two mids and two crossovers.
👍🏻 Pros The sound comes out crisp and clean for all types of music. When you use it with the right amplifiers, the sound is comparable to other top brands. 👎🏻 Cons This system is not easy to mount in midsize SUVs. It may require customized mounting inside the sail panels. Consult a professional installer. Due to the lower selling rice, the manufacturers made some of their parts from cheaper materials. Therefore, do not expect them to last as long as higher-quality speakers. Read Verified Customer Reviews Go to the Top 8. Rockford R165-S R1 Prime – Budget Speakers for the Factory Head Unit Rockford R165-S R1 Prime Review The mylar-balanced dome tweeters in this set work well to give you crisp, clear sound with every instrument well-defined over the speakers. It even sounds good without an additional amplifier to the average listeners and represent a big improvement over the stock paper cones.
You get two tweeters and two woofers with grills in this set. It also come with the parts you need for either flush or surface mounting in your vehicle. Comes with crossovers built inside the tweeters. You don’t need to buy an additional crossover unless you are particularly picky about splitting the higher frequencies from the lower frequencies.
To enhance the lower-range performance, it helps to install an additional 10-inch subwoofer with a low-pass crossover on the amplifier.
👍🏻 Pros For the price they sound good. The highs sound very bright with a well-performing mid-range too. 👎🏻 Cons Bass overall is lacking even with additional amp. Read Verified Customer Reviews Go to the Top 9. MB Quart ZC1-216 – Compact Design that Lasts MB Quart ZC1-216 Review Some consider the clean sound from these speakers to be right on par with Polk, JBL and Infinity, which is excellent considering the lower price point.
This set includes four speakers. You get two tweeters and two mid-range speakers with their crossover. Plus, they include the hardware you need to mount them either flush with your interior or on the surface. To get the best results while listening to your music, use them with a high-quality deck like the Alpine brand and an additional amplifier.
Remember that because these speakers are not like coaxial ones, you have to mount the tweeters separately. Like other component systems, these tweeters belong in their own holes in the car’s interior.
👍🏻 Pros They can easily perform well even after several years. Made with ceramic-coated tweeters that have titanium domes, they give a well-balanced sound. 👎🏻 Cons They will blow out if you’re not careful when installing them. They can’t handle an excess of power. Do not expect these speakers to be as heavy-duty as brands like Pioneer. They have a lighter build, meant for average buyers. Read Verified Customer Reviews Go to the Top 10. Rockford Fosgate T1650-S – Superior Sound System with Good Midbass Rockford Fosgate T1650-S Review You’ll appreciate the highly durable construction of these speakers, made from carbon fiber and polypropylene cone with Santoprene-type rubber surrounds. That means you can blast your music for hours without blowing them. The tweeter’s clear highs balance out the heavy bass nicely. People love how the external crossover network has selectable tweeter levels with axis switching that adjusts the high frequencies for you.
Plus, you do receive both flush-mounting and surface-mounting hardware with your purchase.
Even though these component speakers work efficiently with most types of stock stereos or common head units, an additional quality amplifier really does make a difference. That way, you can see how they perform at their full potential.

The Giant Behemoth (also known as Behemoth, the Sea Monster) will be released on Blu-ray on January 22 via the Warner Archive Collection. It has been newly mastered in high definition.
The 1959 giant monster movie is co-directed by Douglas Hickox (Sitting Target) and Eugène Lourié (The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms). Lourié co-wrote the script with Daniel James (Gorgo). Gene Evans and André Morell star.
Special features are listed below.
Special features:
Audio commentary by special effects veterans Phil Tippett and Dennis Muren
Theatrical trailer
As in his classic The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, director Eugene Lourie plunges us into a thrilling stomping ground, unleashing another Thunder Lizard to stomp on everything in sight. Alarming levels of radiation have infused the water, plants, and skies, and a radiated paleosaurus rises from the ocean depths. In its path: London. In its arsenal: a strength to topple buildings (King Kong's Willis O'Brien contributes rampaging stop-motion effects), a stride that flattens cars, a flesh-searing radioactive ray and a ticked-off attitude. Left in ruins on land, humankind takes the fight to the beast's undersea realm, where a two-man submarine crew must ensure the torpedo they fire is dead-on. The first chance is all anyone gets with The Giant Behemoth.

"The Man in Black s1-3"
THE MAN IN BLACK – YOUR APPOINTMENT WITH FEAR FEBRUARY 5, 2017 GREYDOGTALES 1 COMMENT
Have you met the Man in Black? Has he whispered to you on the airwaves? Your radio is dead, and yet his voice is still there inside you, entreating you to join him… Yes, our Voice of Horror series is back, with a hero of the genre!
Long before Johnny Cash, the Tommy Lee Jones films or even Westworld, there was a single man who embodied the concept of the forbidding stranger, the archivist of the dark – the Man in Black. Can you recall his name, or remember his sepulchral tones? No? Then we shall help. Treats are in store, including some links to where you can listen to, or watch, him in action.
Along the way we bump into Shirley Jackson, Hammer Horror, GK Chesterton, Edgar Allan Poe, Dr Who, Sid James of Carry On fame and S T Joshi, amongst others. Is that enough names yet? For today’s article we must take you back to the days when you made radio shows by rubbing two sticks together, so a few reminders may be in order.
Dyall M for Murder
Valentine Dyall (1908-1985) was the true Man in Black, and it came about because of the BBC. In the 1940s and 50s, they aired a wonderful radio series called Appointment with Fear. This was a series of dramatised horror stories which both drew on the classics and also invited new stories from contemporary writers. Each started with an introduction from the narrator, the Man in Black, either teasing the listener about the nature of the tale to come, or warning them of the terror that awaited them.
Each show was about half an hour long. When Dyall started speaking, you knew you were in the right place. His voice was dark and distinctive (some called him the British Vincent Price), and he had a resonance which just oozed menace. Occasionally the actual story was less interesting than his narration. Between 1943 and 1955 he introduced nine series of terrifying tales, with one more series being narrated by his father, Franklin Dyall. He also narrated a single series of the Man in Black in 1949.
Before we say more about Appointment with Fear, we should mention Dyall’s wider horror credentials. He had a number of parts in film and TV over the years, in addition to his radio work, and his career was packed with the sort of media trivia that we so love.
For our younger listeners, Dyall played the Black Guardian in Dr Who between 1979 and 1983.
“The Black Guardian is an anthropomorphic personification of the forces of entropy and chaos, the counterpart of the White Guardian, a personification of order. The two Guardians balance out the forces in the universe, although the Black Guardian seems to desire to upset the balance in favour of chaos and evil while the White Guardian prefers to maintain the status quo.” (Wiki)
He took the lead role in individual episodes and in three linked serials, which some call the Black Guardian trilogy, playing opposite Peter Davison as the Doctor.
Well Hammered
We mentioned Dyall’s memorable voice, and in Hammer Horror’s film Lust for a Vampire (1971), the character Count Karnstein, played by Mike Raven, was dubbed by Valentine Dyall. He also appeared as the caretaker Mr Dudley in the outstanding 1963 film version of Shirley Jackson’s novel The Haunting of Hill House. Sometimes just known as The Haunting, this is by far the best adaptation, and still sends shivers up the spine.
Going further back, he played a key part, Jethro Keane, in the wonderful City of the Dead (1960). The film was known as Horror Hotel in the States, and is the tale of a young student who seeks information on witchcraft for her college studies. What could possibly go wrong when she travels alone to a mist-shrouded New England village to ask if there are any witches about? Especially when your professor is an intense Christopher Lee, and the man who gets into your car is Valentine Dyall? The usual hilarity ensues…
Two film oddities in Dyall’s career remain worth noting. The first is the attempt to transfer the Man in Black idea to film, again by Hammer. The Man in Black (1949) was a British thriller film which starred Sid James. Adapted from Appointment with Fear, Dyall provided the introduction to the film, as “The Story-Teller”. Sid James, who rose to fame in the British Carry On films, plays a straight role for once, with none of his yuck-yuck dirty laughter. It received mixed reviews, but is worth a look.
His other role, which links to our interest in detectives and will lead us back to the radio, was as Dr Morelle in Dr Morelle: The case of the Missing Heiress. This was another Hammer Film, and was based on the popular long running BBC radio series written by Ernest Dudley.
Ernest Dudley (1908-2006) wrote many tales of Morelle, a psychiatrist with an interest in criminology. In the radio series, the part of Dr Morelle was taken by the silky-voiced Cecil Parker, a stalwart of British period films. It’s well worth seeking out the old-time radio recordings of A Case for Dr Morelle, as the sleuthing doctor is incredibly annoying and condescending to his secretary, Miss Frayne. They’re greatly enjoyable in a sort of ‘God, I want to slap this man’ sort of way (and for some unlikely, if not implausible, deductions).
Appointment with Fear
So we’re glued to our radios again, and Appointment with Fear. See, we know where we are – sort of. John Dickson Carr, the prolific mystery writer, was responsible for a number of the original stories and for many of the adaptations of classic tales. Given the number of series, we won’t list them all, but here are some of the adaptations which Dyall introduced:
The Pit and the Pendulum – Edgar Allan Poe
The Cask of Amontillado – Edgar Allan Poe
A Watcher by the Dead – Ambrose Bierce
The Middle Toe Of The Right Foot – Ambrose Bierce
The Monkey’s Paw – W W Jacobs
Oh Whistle And I’ll Come To You, My Lad – M R James
The Beast with Five Fingers – W F Harvey
Markheim – Robert Louis Stevenson
The Hands of Nekamen – Kathleen Hyatt
The Yellow Wallpaper – Charlotte Parkins Gilman
Mrs Amworth – E F Benson
John Dickson Carr (1906-1977) was an American, and yet his detective and mystery stories were predominantly English tales, perhaps due to his English wife and the time he spent there in the thirties and forties.
He was the creator of Dr Gideon Fell, a larger-than life investigator modelled on the author G K Chesterton. Fell is a great figure, an eccentric, corpulent cape-flapping fellow – an amateur sleuth who sees through the mistakes of the authorities. He too was made into a radio series, this time played by another classic British actor, Donald Sinden.
Carr and Dr Fell probably deserve their own article on greydogtales, so we’ll keep this short. There were 23 Dr Fell novels, and Carr wrote many other detective mysteries besides. He also wrote an authorised biography of Arthur Conan Doyle (1949), and with Doyle’s youngest son, Adrian, wrote Sherlock Holmes stories for the collection The Exploits of Sherlock Holmes (1954). Whilst musing on this, we were surprised to find that S T Joshi, a major figure in weird fiction criticism and a Lovecraftian scholar, produced a book-length critical study of Carr, John Dickson Carr: A Critical Study (1990).
Most of the recordings of Appointment with Fear have been lost, but one of the few surviving episodes is an original Carr tale, The Clock Strikes Eight, originally aired 05/18/1944.
Another example is And the Deep Shuddered, written by Monckton Hoffe, an Irish screenwriter, and aired 20/11/45, which can also be found on Youtube.
The Rest of the Man in Black
After Dyall, others took on the voice of the Man in Black. Revived as Fear on Four, the concept ran for five series on BBC Radio 4 (1988-1992), with Edward DeSouza in the key role. A fifth series was broadcast in 1997, but with no Man in Black.
The most recent revival was with Mark Gatiss reprising the role. There were four radio series featuring Gatiss between 2009 and 2011. Whilst not as sepulchral as Dyall, it’s fair to say that Gatiss does have the ability to make ordinary things sound quite unnerving, so he wasn’t a bad choice. We covered Gatiss’ recent audio version of Dracula here last year:
Come Freely, Go Safely: Dracula Returns, Scott Handcock Rules!
Although we must have missed it, apparently The Return of the Man In Black was broadcast by Radio 4 as two Archive Hour specials in October 1998. The documentaries were presented by the acclaimed horror writer Ramsey Campbell, and covered the history of fear and suspense on BBC radio. During the programmes, two complete episodes were presented: The Pit and the Pendulum (from Appointment With Fear) and The Beast With Five Fingers (from Fear On 4).
Buried under names and trivia, we leave you with Valentine Dyall, and his reading of The Pit and the Pendulum.
Sleep well…
wish i could listen
