Happy Summer, Personal Log: this is your favorite Hungarian schoolboy and member of the Chromabots József Fénye recording a summery scuba log entry!

Let's cut to the chase: I just scuba dived my first ever Junior Scuba Diver Pool Dive as a Little Junior Scuba Diver with my two new dive buddies: Chad "Kicker" Jones, Little Earth Federation/Autobot Junior Diver

Sari Sumdac, Little Sumdac Systems/Autobot Junior Diver with me as their big brother figure dive buddy and had a splashin' blast at the Autobot Junior Scuba/Rescue Diver Training Diving Pool here in good ol' Budapest, Hungary!

I was nice enough to bring with me an Underwater Waterproofed Digital Scuba Camera to take a snapshot of said new dive buddies:

Sari S.: The Little Sumdac Systems/Autobot Junior Diver who is all suited and geared up in her colorful light yellow-orange-and-black personalized Sari Special school swimwear and Sumdac Systems Scuba Gear: her Sari Special Girls' Japanese-Style School Swimsuit and Silicone Swim Cap, Sumdac Systems Scubapro Spectra-Style Dive Mask, Scubapro-Style Snorkel and Scubapro Twin Jet-Style Dive Fins ABC Kit, Sumdac Systems Scubapro Venus Style Girls' Backwing Jacket Buoyancy Compensator with Air2 Inflator/Octopus, air tank and Sari Special Sumdac Systems R190 Style Mouthpiece Regulator and Compact Air Gauge scuba rig.

Long story short: we went through the ABCs of scuba diving, swam around the heated waters of the scuba dive pool, practiced buddy breathing and air-integrated regulator breathing and just being middle school kids, popping our regulators out of our mouths, bubbling air bubbles around, plugging our regs back in our mouths and all. All in all: a dive to remember.

Album Review of the Week: Zella Day - Kicker (2015)☆☆☆

Kicker is Zella Day's major label debut and released 10 years ago yesterday! I didn't even do that on purpose. The overall vibe is a kind of folksy pop, although now with the benefit of hindsight I notice that the instrumentation is very 2015 and its production sounds fuzzy and cheap. However, her vocals shine above it all and she wrote most of the songs and I do admire the lyricism and vocal melody throughout.

The album opens with Jerome with a neat Old West style opening. The whole song is yearning and a great sing-a-long moment.

High had some neat dramatic instrumentation and fun vocal moments in the pre-chorus! I always find lyrics like this really cringe though, "as long as we keep getting high" and/or dedicating entire songs to the act.

Ace of Hearts is pretty forgettable, standard melody - nothing too unique going on although her vocals are really nice as always.

1965 has always been my favorite, the melody is SO whimsical and pretty. It is a very melancholy song that does get me sad sometimes, but the melody is just so beautiful! Plus, I always think about how much fun it would be to be a homemaker in the 60s (provided I had a progressive husband, of course) so that makes it extra whimsical.

That same vintage whimsy holds for the next track, East of Eden. Besides the obvious James Dean reference, the verse's melody is quick paced and sweet while the chorus is dramatic and driving.

Hypnotic was the big single, and I believe it was featured in a TV show at the time as well which helps with promo! I really enjoy its dramatic sound and structure. It sounds a lot more elevated than the rest of the album.

Mustang Kids continues in the same vein and even has a rap-ish feature. I don't care for the feature but the chorus is loads of fun! There is a lot of synth in this one which is unique to this track - at least so far.

The Outlaw Josey Wales is another major standout. I especially enjoy the horns that come out from the background every once in a while. The whole song is really upbeat and fun, her vocals are especially good here as well.

Our upbeat triad ends at the ballad Jameson. It is a simple acoustic track, but she does a fantastic job of conveying emotion that it gets me a little choked up! Her vocals are a little thin but the emotion definitely gives that a pass.

Shadow Preachers is a ballad as well, with instrumentation that is more familiar to the rest of the project. Some light electronic drums with a dramatic chorus. Again, the vocals are a little thin - it seems she's trying to use some more power than the other songs have vocally.

We're back uptempo with Sweet Ophelia! These whimsical songs suit her voice much better. I love the nearly anthemic chorus, makes for a lot of fun as we near the end of the album!

Compass is a ballad that is especially well executed within the overall album's sound. She is not trying to do too much vocally and sticking with that whimsy quality that her voice can hold so well.

I have not followed Zella Day's career much since this came out, but this is a very solid debut with some lasting bops for a chill summer mood!
