By Brad Plumer
Brad Plumer spent time in the oil fields of California, where many communities are built on fossil fuels.
Photographs by Alisha Jucevic
The New York Times
July 7, 2022
TAFT, Calif. — Every five years, this city of 7,000 hosts a rollicking, Old West-themed festival known as Oildorado. High schoolers decorate parade floats with derricks and pump jacks. Young women vie for the crown in a “Maids of Petroleum” beauty pageant. It’s a celebration of an industry that has sustained the local economy for the past century.
This is oil country, in a state that leads the country in environmental regulation. With wildfires and drought ravaging California, Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, wants to end oil drilling in the state by 2045. That has provoked angst and fierce resistance here in Kern County, where oil and gas tax revenues help to pay for everything from elementary schools to firefighters to mosquito control.
“Nowhere else in California is tied to oil and gas the way we are, and we can’t replace what that brings overnight,” said Ryan Alsop, chief administrative officer in Kern County, a region north of Los Angeles. “It’s not just tens of thousands of jobs. It’s also hundreds of millions of dollars in annual tax revenue that we rely on to fund our schools, parks, libraries, public safety, public health.”
Across the United States, dozens of states and communities rely on fossil fuels to fund aspects of daily life. In Wyoming, more than half of state and local tax revenues comes from fossil fuels. In New Mexico, an oil boom has bankrolled free college for residents and expanded medical care for new mothers. Oil and gas money is so embedded in many local budgets, it’s difficult to imagine a future without it.
Disentangling communities from fossil-fuel income poses a major obstacle in the fight against climate change. One study found that if nations followed the urging of scientists and cut emissions from oil, gas and coal deeply enough to avert catastrophic warming, United States tax revenues from oil and gas production, currently about $34 billion per year, could fall by two-thirds by 2050.
While Kern County produces 70 percent of California’s oil, it is also the state’s largest supplier of wind and solar power. But renewable energy doesn’t generate as much tax revenue as fossil fuels, partly because California exempts solar panels from property taxes to spur construction. And jobs in the wind and solar industries generally don’t pay as much or last as long as those in the oil fields.
So Kern County is feuding with the governor. Local officials, who have unsuccessfully sued to block Governor Newsom’s restrictions on drilling, are backing a plan for up to 43,000 new wells and have threatened to halt solar projects in response to the state’s oil crackdown.
Whether Kern County can transition to cleaner energy could offer a model, or a cautionary tale, to the rest of the nation.
“California is about 10 years ahead of other places on climate policy, but I expect we’ll see similar issues pop up across the United States,” said Kyle Meng, an economist at the University of California, Santa Barbara. “When you look at how deeply oil and gas is woven into the fabric of many communities, providing money for schools and hospitals and roads, the shift to clean energy can get really complicated, really fast.”

Welcome, to the Tintin book with both the most slavery, and the most submarines
It’s time for the Red Sea Sharks, and I know I say this a lot, but this is actually my favourite Tintin.
Plot-line
So Tintin and Haddock run quite literally into General Alcazar, who drops his wallet, and in their attempt to return it, discover he’s here to buy arms, the seller of which turns out to be Dawson, from all the way back in book five, The Blue Lotus.
Tintin has a sneak around, finds some de Havilland Mosquitos, and discovers that Khemed, from all the way back in book fifteen, Land of Black Gold, has been coup d’étated by Sheikh Bab El Ehr, with the help of some de Havilland Mosquitos.
So Tintin&Co promptly fly off to Khemed, where they get turned around at the border, and their flight back explodes from a time-bomb in the luggage, but only after one of the engines spontaneously combusting forces them down.
Tintin&Co sneak back into Khemed, and shelter from the armed street patrols with Oliveira de Figueira.
They escape the city with the aid of crossdressing and horses, and make it to the secret city in the mountains where the Emir has been hiding out.
He explains that the coup was becuase he chucked out an airline that was involved in slave trading, not because of the whole slavery thing, but because they wouldn't put on a private air-show for his son.
So anyway Tintin&Co get on a boat, which gets Mosquitoed, but Tintin shoots one down with what appears to be an AK-47, and they escape the burning wreck with a raft.
They rescue the pilot of the Mosquito Tintin shot down, Skut, and then get rescued by the yacht of the owner of that slavery airline, the Marquis di Gorgonzola, who promptly dumps them on a cargo ship, the crew of which promptly set it on fire and abandon it in the night.
So Tintin&Co put out the fire, take control of the ship, discover a cargo of slaves, rescue them, have a quick fight with a submarine, and are saved by the USS Los Angeles, which has a $\frac {1}{4}$ chance of being a airship.
Haddock bashes a diver with the anchor, somehow doesn't kill them, a shark explodes, Gorgonzola is revealed to be Rastapopoulos, who escapes by yet another submarine.
Characters
So, the only new major character here is Skut, who, like most Tintin characters, has a relatively bland personality, but I do appreciate having a character with slightly less black-and-white morals than usual.
Things I like
First and foremost, the water, being a book set mostly at sea, there is naturally a lot of water, and it all both looks excellent, and behaves in a seemingly quite realistic way.
Things I don't
You know the drill, it's stupid nitpick time!
On Page four, panel two, the speech bubble is intended to be read as coming from the telephone, however it is not made clear, as the tail points to the same place as panel 1, with only the texture of the bubble to differentiate them, moving the origin of the bubble on panel one to the other side of Tintin's head would have easily alleviated the issue
The plane not only has an engine catch on fire, but also makes a successful crash-landing seemingly without a single injury
Silly bits
Haddock greets the Thom(p)sons with a hosepipe
Calculs arrives to breakfast via roller-skate
Milatary equipment is advertised in a mainstream newspaper
Tintin trespasses on private property
Haddock becomes highly relatable
Canon femboy Tintin
Two armoured cars are distroied by a poor telephone network
Calculus steerable roller-skate
Once again, I must reiterate, the Emir, friend and ally of Tintin, does not take issue with slavery, but does with airlines not putting on private air shows for his son at the drop of a hat
The Emir believes commercial air-liners are able to safely loop the loop while loaded with passengers
Conclusion
Truly, this is the best Tintin, and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot, just ignore all the times I said otherwise.

U.S. Government’s Secret Experiments on Its Citizens
(1931) Cancer: The Rockefeller Institute for Medical Investigations infected human subjects with cancer cells. Dr. Cornelius Rhoads established the U.S. Army Biological Warfare facilities in Maryland, Utah, and Panama and began a series of radiation exposure experiments on patients in government and civilian hospitals.
(1932) Syphilis: In the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, two hundred black men diagnosed with syphilis were never told of their illness and were used as human guinea pigs in order to better understand the symptoms of the disease. None of the men received any kind of treatment, and only seventy-four survived.
(1935) Dietary deficiencies: Millions had died of pellagra, a dietary deficiency, in poverty-stricken black populations. The U.S. Public Health Service finally acted to curb the disease and admitted that it had known the causes of pellagra for more than two decades.
(1940) Malaria: In order to gauge the abilities of experimental drugs designed to fight malaria, four hundred prisoners in Chicago were infected with the disease.
(1942) Mustard gas: Four thousand servicemen, mostly Seventh-day Adventists who were conscientious objectors, served as human guinea pigs for mustard gas experiments.
(1947) Radioactive injections: The U.S. Atomic Energy Commission began administering intravenous doses of radioactive materials to human subjects.
(1947) Psychedelics: In its efforts to evaluate LSD as a potential weapon or truth serum, the Central Intelligence Agency administered dosages of the powerful hallucinogenic drug to human subjects, civilian and military, often without their knowledge or consent.
(1950) Radiation: With nuclear weapons still in their infancy, Department of Defense detonated nuclear devices in desert areas and then monitored unsuspecting civilians in cities downwind from the blasts for medical problems and mortality rates.
(1950) Bacteriological warfare: The U.S. Navy sprayed a cloud of bacteria over San Francisco to test how a large city would respond to more lethal biological attacks. Many residents became ill with pneumonia-like symptoms.
(1955) Biological agents: In an experiment to test its ability to infect human populations with biological agents, the Central Intelligence Agency released bacteria in the Tampa, Florida, area.
(1956) Yellow fever: Mosquitoes infected with yellow fever were released over Savannah, Georgia, and Avon Park, Florida. U.S. Army disease specialists, posing as public health officials, test area residents for effects.
(1965) Dioxin: Inmates at Holmesburg State Prison in Philadelphia were dosed with dioxin, the toxic chemical component of Agent Orange used in Vietnam.
(1966) Germ warfare: More than a million civilians were exposed to germ warfare when U.S. Army scientists dropped light bulbs filled with bacteria onto ventilation grates throughout the New York City subway system.
(1977) Contamination: Senate hearings revealed that between 1949 and 1969, 239 highly populated areas, including San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Key West, Panama City (Florida), Minneapolis, and St. Louis, had been contaminated with biological agents.
(1978) Hepatitis B: The Centers for Disease Control asked specifically for promiscuous homosexual males when it tested an experimental hepatitis B vaccine in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Three years later, in those same cities, the first cases of AIDS were confirmed in homosexual men.
(1990) Measles: The Centers for Disease Control inoculated more than 1,500 six-month-old black and Hispanic babies in Los Angeles against measles. Later, the center confessed that the vaccine was experimental.
(1995) Biological agents: Evidence surfaced that the biological agents used during the Gulf War had been manufactured in Houston, Texas, and Boca Raton, Florida, and tested on prisoners in the Texas Department of Corrections.

Thank you for the request! As usual I’m sorry for the late post. Ahahaha. Ha. TT_TT anyway I hope you like it <3
IkeSen Warlords x Underground Hero MC
Nobunaga
Hero Name : Fireball (Ironic. Ohoh)
Quirk: Fire User
Weakness: Will burn something by accident if she have a fever.
-“How ironic.” Is the word that she said when he called her “Fireball”.
-When he found out about her identity, that’s where he understood what does she mean by ‘Ironic’. ‘Fireball’ itself is the name of her, as an Underground Hero.
-She is basically a fire user, and a strong one at that, to Nobunaga’s amusement, especially when she didn’t hesitate to follow him to battlefield.
-But her weakness may hurt her own ally as well. Because..
-“Haachiuuu QAQ!!”
-*BOOOM*
-Hideyoshi gasped to the burnt breakfast, and ran to the kitchen. “___! You are not allowed to help the maids in the kitchen until you get better, you understand?”
-“B-But- HAACHIUUU QAQ!!” Another raw chicken is burnt into crisp.
- “No buts. Your fever will burn the ingredients and Nobunaga-sama is taking this chance to suggest us to have konpeito for breakfast.” He growled, followed by a long sigh.
Hideyoshi
Hero Name: Aquamarine
Quirk: Water User
Weakness: Her tears will change into pearls when she cried, so if anyone didn't know that she is a hero, she might be kidnapped.
-She is very soft, gentle, and very empathetic towards anyone. Just, anyone.
-Too emotional, she can cry easily.
-Hideyoshi get to learn about her pearl tears when she was nagged by him, and one of the vassals saw her pearl tears and kidnapped her the very next day.
-Despite that, she is very strong as her power is deadly. It can be changed from a liquid to a solid form, and any source of water is like her servant that serve her.
-Even though there's no source of water in field of war, she can still summon it, as to say, she is not fully dependent on source of water, as she is a "water" herself.
Masamune
Hero Name: Silent Chao
Quirk: Invisible weapon user, particularly accompanied with a hand fan as weapon, that acts like a sword and a hand pose like a gun will act like a gun.
Weakness: She can't use her power fully if she is separated with her hand fan. She could use a paper, but it won’t be 100% effective. And, if she playfully make a pose of hand gun, she might accidentally shoot someone.
-His first question is: "Can it be used to cut ingredients?" which earned a glare from her.
-But how ironic she use it as a knife to cut the ingredients for cooking-
-Masamune misused her fan by locking her movements, and swing her hand to cut Hideyoshi's pants.
-"Is that... 'All Hail Nobunaga' written on his fundoshi--"
-When they become lovers, she nearly shoot him because she's does gun pose when she replied to one of his cheesy pick-up lines with "Aaayyyy 😏👉 <3 and-
-*BANG!*
-He went pale when the wall has a smoky hole in it.
-"Hyaaaa Masamune I'm sorry! I didn't mean to QAQ!!"
-"Heh. It's alright lass- *Bonk!*"
-The paper scroll fell directly on his head and he fainted in instant.
Ieyasu
Hero Name : Melodia
Quirk: Voice
Weakness: If she cry (out of fear or extreme sadness), she might break glasses and people’s ears will be damaged more than usual damage she can cause.
-Her voice is very soothing and beautiful. She can make enemy fell asleep, or confused, and her high pitched voice will break things.
-Animals would always be attracted to her mostly, including the dangerous ones (which freak Ieyasu at times). But seeing her lulling Wasabi to sleep, or him, makes his anger fade away in instant. Was it because of her quirk? Or because he had fallen in lo- of course not. That’s ridiculous. (Yeah, yeah, Ieyasu, we get it.)
-Another reason to freak out: Try not to upset her, because there was one time when his contrarian personality has stepped on the boundaries, it has given him the best lesson ever.
-“I-Ieyasu- y-you- it’s better if you take those words back.” She trembled, holding back her frustration and fuming anger within her, despite knowing he is being contrary. But not today, just not today-
-“What? Are you going to use your voice so it confuses me so I slap myself?”
-*snap*
-She had cried so loud (Out of frustration, obviously), and it had destroyed all of the ceramic jar of herbs in his room, and all the fragile items within the castle.
-How did the cry end? Ieyasu force a kiss on her. That’s how they become lovers after that. *snort*
Mitsunari
Hero Name: Super Lady
Quirk: Super strength
Weakness: If she didn't control it, she might break someone's bone.
-Mitsunari is the first one to be amazed with her strength, constantly complimenting her, making her blush and accidentally break any stuff near her, or destroying something that she was holding at that time.
-For example, she broke the plates she carried into half and it took whole of Hideyoshi not to get mad at her.
-But there's one time when she saw a mosquito on his cheek, she had sent Mitsunari flying and it took a month for him to recover.
-And.. She ever break the castle's walls because she kicked one of the bullies (that bullied Mitsunari) into a wall out of anger.
-It took all of her not to squeeze on Mitsunari's arms so much when they were kissing (because hell, that angel is very good at it).
Mitsuhide
Hero Name: Psychica
Quirk: Psychic
Weakness: If she is in negative state (mentally and emotionally), the things around her will be destroyed and she might damage her own body.
-He found out when MC tried to stop a bullet that were fired by the enemies during war because their army has weakened.
-Ever since then she has become his partner in long range squad because she can control the movement of arrows and bullets.
-But Mitsuhide had to keep an eye on her because she ever rage from enemy's dirty trick and killed all of them in instant, resulting her to cough out blood from extreme use of her mana.
-And.. Whenever she's angry, it's such a hassle to hide himself because flying object will run after him.
-Not to mention when small knives stab his clothes (making him stick on the wall) when she wanted to confess her feelings to him.
Kenshin
Hero Name: Heiki-sama
Quirk: Weapon summoner and Master in using weapons
Weakness: Just like fire user, when she sneeze from fever, random weapons will come out from her.
-Kenshin didn't give a single glance at her, until she show her interest in aiding him for war.
-She had summoned weapons in front of him, assuming she was a ninja at first, but it wasn't the case.
-He knew about her background when he take a chance to give her a surprise attack, and it drives his lust to battle more (as she keep on summoning random weapons, especially when it's a weapon that he never seen before)
-It amuses him some more when she had a fever, making her sneeze with weapons (extra points to his amusement when the castle is full with random weapons)
-She had pouted after that and as a revenge she locked all of his sake and plums with a chain.
Shingen
Hero Name: Koori no Kimi
Quirk: Ice User (Unlimited power of ice, and she be able to freeze a fire)
Weakness: She is able to freeze a whole town if her mental state is negative; changing summer to winter, and it will be hard to defrost as it is uncontrollable until she calm down
-Shingen gets to know it when she tried to escape from his flirty touchy  attack when he was drunk during one of the victory feasts.
-She had pinned him to wall with her ice and it made him sober impromptu.
-It took him a while to earn her trust because whenever he is near, there will be ice mist coming from her legs a.k.a a warning to not get close.
-Even though she is strong, Shingen still refuse to bring her to battlefield because well, goddess must not stain her hand (Oh joy.)
-Only to get another ice attack from her, by freezing his snacks to his dismay.
Yukimura
Hero Name: Shifter
Quirk: Shape Shifting (Includes both living and non-living things)
Weakness: If she is in a weak state, she might change into things she couldn't control. For example, if she sneeze from a fever, she might accidentally changed into a pencil for no reason.
-Yukimura get to know about her when she changed into a REAL wild boar and head butt him because she was too angry.
-And change into an enchantress when he called her that as well.
-There was one time when the castle nearly need some huge repairs when MC changed into a dragon because she was too angry with her banter with him.
-Endless pranks with him if they were having a fight again.
-He ever gave her a surprise kiss, making her changed into a knife for a week, and will try to stab him (because she were too embarrassed from it), until Sasuke had to get involved to calm her down.
-Reason: Enough with one Stabby Lord, we wouldn't want to add another stabby person.
Sasuke
Hero Name: Kemononoke Hime
Quirk: Summoning Spirits of Animals
Weakness: Her mind must be calm throughout the summoning. If she gets angry or any negative state is in her mind, the spirits couldn't be controlled and will start to eat human's energy.
-It's easy to get to know about her because well, he is from the future and underground heroes is everywhere.
-Her no.1 Fan at that.
-"Your quirk reminds me of summoning Pokemon, like __ I choose you." - Enthusiastic voice didn't match his stoic face.
-Constant compliments of "As expected of MC." and "You are very strong, it is the reason why I'm your no.1 fan." which indirectly made MC blushed with his words and resulted in imbalance emotions within her, and when she said "PLEASE STOP >/////<!"
-The castle is full with animal spirits and he is buried among them.
-But he is happy- honored. Correction.

The show opened in Chicago, where the following few shows were produced before a majority of the most active members moved to Los Angeles prior to The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals, which opened in 2018
StarKid had their own short segment on MTV that highlighted certain aspects of the production such as Criss’ music and the puppetry (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlnIXIGrjVg). At that point in time, Darren Criss was already a television favorite due to his role as Blaine Anderson on Glee, who joined the cast during its second season
The show’s cast album debuted at number one on Billboard’s Top Cast Albums within three days of its release and at the 134th spot during that week’s Billboard’s Top 200 chart (x)
The opening sequence features cameos from other StarKid members such as Chris Allen, Tyler Brunsman, Richard Campbell, Britney Coleman, Arielle Goldman, Devin Lytle, Lily Marks, Nicholas Joseph Strauss-Matathia, and Brian Rosenthal. The same sequence was narrated by actor Bob Joles (AKA Man Ray in Spongebob Squarepants)
***Fun Facts provided by Abby:
Nick and Dylan think the worst StarKid song is ‘Hideous Creatures’
During a rehearsal, Joey told Nick that he thought the choreography for ‘Beauty’ was boring. Then Nick asked him, “Do you want to choreograph the number?" and then walked out of the room.
There was a theoretical sequel to Starship in which Taz and Up arrest Spaceclaw but get injured by an explosion. Up ends up in the hospital because of his injuries, and while Taz waits for him to heal, she has flashbacks of when they first met and the missions they went on together (Taz’s quinceañera, etc.)
Lauren: I'd like to imagine that Taz has that same hairstyle just in a big quinceañera dress
Once during rehearsal, they were all in a bad mood during ‘Beauty’. Darren wanted to surprise the cast with a visit, so he burst into the theatre singing the song and was just met by silence
At LeakyCon 2014 on Orlando, StarKid were invited as guests and performed a staged reading of a one-act sequel to Starship called Starship: Requiem.
Official synopsis: The story follows the adventures of Mega-Girl the robot and her half-witted Starship Ranger husband. The newlyweds are sucked into a black hole of trouble when they go to visit Mega-Girl’s human-hating family, including her overbearing mother-unit, her jealous sister-unit and the return of her hunky ex-boyfriend-unit. (x)
Cultural Context: 2011
The production’s MTV segment aired a little over a week after Glee’s “Original Song” episode, which featured Kurt and Blaine’s long-awaited first kiss [rip Pavarotti]

Content Analysis:
During my time on social media, I have found that Starship is one of the StarKid shows that gets discussed the least. Up until the show’s debut in StarKid’s history, the only shows they’ve done were AVPM and AVPS, both major viral hits, and MAMD, which reached popularity partly because it was released after StarKid became known for AVPM. Coming off of their great and unexpected successes with these productions, one would think that there would be a bigger fandom for Starship. It’s their second show that is based on original content rather than being a parody, and the production quality is the strongest in their repertoire, considering the funds they gained from their album sales for MAMD and their growing merchandise sales for their Potter musical series.
Personally, it’s one of my favorite StarKid shows because of the production quality and because the performances are so strong. Joey Richter makes a perfect leading man, and seeing how his general abilities as a performer have grown since MAMD has been delightful. His vocal range got stronger and more pronounced and he has a very confident stage presence, especially since Starship was StarKid’s first production independent of the University of Michigan’s monetary assistance and performance space. Lauren Lopez and Dylan Saunders do such an incredible job at playing two completely different characters themselves within the same show. Saunders plays Tootsie Noodles, a lovable idiot with a heart of gold who falls in love with a robot of all things, while also playing Pincer, the villainous instigator of the plot. Lopez has a similar about-face in character portrayal. She plays Buggette, a bug who’s in a helpless one-sided romantic relationship with Bug, and then two seconds later Lopez transforms into Taz, a kickass Latina Starship Ranger with excellent comedic presence and the undisputed leader of the group before Up regains his confidence as commander.
Starship is very unique in that about half of the characters in the show are portrayed by puppets, which themselves are incredibly designed, but unlike other productions that use puppets, they do not detract from the actor’s performance of the character. StarKid did a very good job in ensuring that the puppets are not a gimmick, but rather a compliment, to their individual actor’s portrayal of the character. All actors who play puppet roles do such a great job of vocalizing their character that, despite the design of the puppet not having the ability to change facial features, make the puppets feel so alive that it’s almost like watching a live-action animated movie (the good kind we’ve yet to experience, not the Disney kind). If there is any one thing that Starship represents for the company as a whole, it’s that character creation and embodiment make up the heartblood of the performances. Aside from the vocal performances, the facial expressions and physicality of the performances add so much to the puppetry performances, even when the focus on the character isn’t their physical representation but their dialogue and place in the plot. Regardless of whether or not the recording is emphasizing the puppet itself during a scene, the actor controlling the puppet is using perfect facial expressions and has matching body language with the puppet, which not only helps the actor stay in character, but gives more life to the puppet itself.
While I am eternally grateful that StarKid to this day ensures that their musical productions are put on YouTube for free, there are two very clear downsides that make themselves especially present in the recording. One is that, unlike in live theatre where any audience member can choose who and what to look at onstage at any given time, the camera is the one dictating what each audience member can focus on. Generally speaking, that isn’t too much of a detriment as most of the shots StarKid uses tend to showcase the most important characters during each scene, which any audience member would do if they were to attend a production live, but because StarKid members are so adept at character performance, it really makes me wish that I can look more at the ensemble’s performances during group scenes, or secondary character’s reactions during smaller scenes in which their character may not be the main focus.
Another thing was the general editing style. Though it did not necessarily take away anything from the performance itself or make watching the recording any less enjoyable, there were some editing choices that I felt were too distracting for what the scene called for in the show. For example, when Crayonder mentions to Taz that he thinks that Commander Up has “gone soft” since the injury he sustained in the Robot War, twice does the camera pause on his face and a record scratch and ‘booooo’ track is heard overlaid onto the scene. I understand the comedic nature of that bit in retrospect, but for a viewer, regardless of whether or not they are watching the show for the first time, it’s very distracting and forcibly shifts the audience’s focus on the story and the characters to a one-off joke. For a first-time viewer, that editing choice especially does not have as much impact as it does for a recurring viewer, as at that point in the story, the audience is only just being introduced to the characters and has no personal connection to Up and his backstory, making the effect of the joke less successful. As well, throughout the recording, and during the first act in particular, the show has a lot of quick and experimental cuts in the frame that I feel don’t allow the audience to sit enough with the action and the performance happening onstage, instead making the audience pay more attention to quick facial gestures rather than allowing the audience to take in the performance of an individual actor or an entire scene as a whole. Overall, the editing just reminds me that I am watching this beautifully done live-performance through a screen rather than being there for the performance in person, and lessens the potential impact of the recording as a whole.
Regardless of the editing, Starship still has some of the best character performances and musical numbers in StarKid’s production history. One that really stood out for me during this rewatch was Denise Donovan’s portrayal of February. Her character gets introduced as a classic ditzy character who initially doesn’t have a lot of agency in the story, but through good writing and likable performance, grows into the most sympathetic and dynamic character in the show. Donovan’s performance makes February more human than the trope she represents, and plays off her character so well that her jokes make her more endearing than a throw-away character that’s used just for laughs and a love-interest. Starkid tends to do this with a lot of the trope-y roles that they write for their productions . The writing and the direction have a very unique way of taking seemingly predictable, one-dimensional characters and fleshing them out into entire human beings with backstories and arcs, making their comedic impact all the more enjoyable because the audience genuinely likes them.

What are the precautionary pest control steps that should be taken by houseowners during the summer season?
During the summer months, homeowners can take several precautionary measures to minimize pest problems and protect their properties. Based on the provided sources, here are some recommended actions:
Seal entry points properly: Check doors, windows, screens, and other openings for gaps or tears and repair them promptly to prevent pests like ants, spiders, and mosquitoes from entering the home
Clean gutters and drains: Clogged gutters and standing water in drains provide breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Regular cleaning will reduce these potential habitats
Trim vegetation: Overgrown bushes and trees may harbor pests like ticks and rodents. Prune plants regularly to discourage pests from using them as hiding spots
Store firewood properly: Stack firewood away from the house to avoid attracting termites and other pests
Dispose of waste correctly: Ensure garbage cans have tight lids and store them away from the house to prevent attracting scavengers like raccoons and rats
Use appropriate landscaping practices: Avoid planting tall grasses close to the house, and choose plants that do not produce excessive pollen or nectar, which can draw insects like bees and wasps
Install weather stripping: Add weather stripping to doors and windows to prevent drafts and reduce access for pests
Screen vents and chimneys: Cover ventilation systems and chimney tops with fine mesh screens to prevent birds, bats, and squirrels from gaining access into the home
Monitor humidity levels: High moisture levels encourage mold growth and attract pests like cockroaches and silverfish. Make sure there's proper ventilation throughout the home
Implement regular inspections: Conduct routine checks for signs of pest activity, including droppings, gnaw marks, and damaged materials. Early detection allows for quicker intervention before an issue becomes severe
By following these important tips, homeowners can significantly decrease the likelihood of encountering common summertime pests and maintain a more comfortable living space. If issues persist despite taking these precautions, it might be necessary to consult a professional pest control company like Payne Pest Management is the pest control in San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles.

ways global warming can contribute to the apocalypse x
the earth is expected to be 8 degrees warmer by 2100 irl increase this significantly.
“Higher temperatures are worsening many types of disasters, including storms, heat waves, floods, and droughts.”
“A warmer climate creates an atmosphere that can collect, retain, and drop more water, changing weather patterns in such a way that wet areas become wetter and dry areas drier.”
“Prolonged dry spells mean more than just scorched lawns. Drought conditions jeopardize access to clean drinking water, fuel out-of-control wildfires, and result in dust storms, extreme heat events, and flash flooding in the States. Elsewhere around the world, lack of water is a leading cause of death and serious disease.”
“At the opposite end of the spectrum, heavier rains cause streams, rivers, and lakes to overflow, which damages life and property, contaminates drinking water, creates hazardous-material spills, and promotes mold infestation and unhealthy air. A warmer, wetter world is also a boon for food-borne and waterborne illnesses and disease-carrying insects such as mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks.”
warm weather is dangerous for people who aren’t used to it. without air conditioning, four days of relentless heat can lead to severe health consequences (”direct impacts and the indirect effects of heat-exacerbated, life-threatening illnesses, such as heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and cardiovascular and kidney diseases”). children, elderly, low-income families, and minorities are especially affected.
air quality. “Dirtier air is linked to higher hospital admission rates and higher death rates for asthmatics. It worsens the health of people suffering from cardiac or pulmonary disease. And warmer temperatures also significantly increase airborne pollen, which is bad news for those who suffer from hay fever and other allergies.”
ecosystem and food chain. “As land and sea undergo rapid changes, the animals that inhabit them are doomed to disappear if they don't adapt quickly enough.”
higher oceans. “it's estimated our oceans will be one to four feet higher, threatening coastal systems and low-lying areas, including entire island nations and the world's largest cities, including New York, Los Angeles, and Miami as well as Mumbai, Sydney, and Rio de Janeiro.”
TLDR; global warming can result in various natural disasters, increased death rates, epidemics/pandemics, poor health, cities flooding, and disruptions of the food chain and ecosystem

06.12.18 | Tiffany para a HYPEBAE.
Tumblr media
Leia toda a nossa entrevista abaixo.
P: Ainda é a música?
Música me ajuda a colocar meus sentimentos em ordem e meu treinamento de atuação me inspira a escrever músicas.
R: Eu faço testes e recebo roteiros desde 2012.
P: Você começou com "Over My Skin" e "Teach You".
P: Qual é o legado do Girls’ Generation?
