NAKED - 3: Of Trust, Editors & Mosquito Nets
… - by Beyonce [LEMONADE] - whole album on repeat
[Music is a very big part of my life and I’m MOSTLY INCAPABLE of writing without music, so I just thought I'd share what I am listening to while writing this]
🐺–🐺–🐺–
I’ve been wanting to strip down this very famous & infamous Jikook moment for a while now and since I’ve received 2 ASKS, which also enquired about it [ ASK 1; ASK 2] here I am. The moment in question is Jimin, Jungkook, a broken Mosquito and everything else surrounding this moment. So let’s dive in shall we?
First things first I’ll eat your brain … no, my bad … I got carried away. *clears throat*. First things first, let’s get rid of the elephant in the room. Do I think jikook were tangled up in JK’s bed doing things to each other they couldn’t forget? :
I really don't. Thus, if this is what you thought this post was going to be about, I'm afraid this is not the place for you, hence “to the left, to the left” you go OR you could stay while we observe and discuss some other interesting things about this particular moment.
SO, as you may or may not know, I believe that Jikook are a closeted couple and as such, even though they are playing the love game with the rest of some of us, they do have different rules. Rule number 1: if you are in a closeted relationship, no matter the reason, the closet is between you and your partner, and usually, you stay in the closet to avoid some sort of harm, hence, you are trying to achieve some sort of protection. Now, where the closeted relationship stems out of loving each other in a homophobic environment, protection is going to be paramount and how do you obtain protection in this particular homophobic entertainment business? With T-R-U-S-T.
So here we have two young men in a boyband, but they are not just any two young men, in any boyband. Their band’s name began to make the rounds, it became big, so did their worth and presently many want to have a piece of their pie; whichever piece that may happen to be. Now, imagine trying to trust someone in a field like theirs, with this kind of knowledge. Don’t get me wrong, I do believe their company, for the most part, has their wellbeing at heart, but we are all human and no matter how hard we try some times, some things may and will fall through the cracks. For example, with their content Editors. I’m not sure what instructions they are being given, but if we focus on the jikook content we’ve been getting through the years, trust-wise, it sort of has been like Forrest Gump’s box of chocolate; you never knew what kind of Editor you were gonna get:
Exhibit 1: In 2017 we had the “... Thank god Jungkook referenced their room somehow! Since it looks like I got no editable footage of the inside!” Editor, who gave us the following from Bon Voyage 2 - Hawaii
Exhibit 2: In 2018 we had the “This seems kinda private, but it's also kinda juicy, and I wanna make a memorable edit, so …” Editor, who gave us the following from 2018 Summer Package - Saipan
Exhibit 3: In 2021 we had the “ … I’m new in the company and I respect the boys, but I also want to keep my job, what do I do?! …” Editor, who gave us the following from In The Soop 2
As you can see, regardless of how big they got, the level of editing wasn’t steady in trust with the content, in fact it seemed to go up and down depending on the editor and of course, on the content they were provided with. So believe me when I tell you that Jikook are most definitely NOT out there trying to provide Editors with R-rated content. That being said, Jikook are also young men in love and where they are used to adopting restraint on excessive PDA, they are most definitely tip-toeing around the lines of harmless gestures and questionable moments. And when it comes to questionable moments, we’ve gotta admit that some of these Editors do try their darn best to make them look like “nothing happened here folks! Just your everyday Jim and Joe messing around, move along!” with some misfitting/funny captions and the now ever so common baby sounds.
Then again, editing when the intention is clear, it’s really pretty straightforward, but when the intention is unclear, that’s when you enter editing nightmare territory. For example, J-Hope cuddling JK to try to wake him up, or Tae cuddling JK just to join him sleeping: CLEAR.
And then we have JK going to cuddle JM because? Maybe he wanted to nap? But in the end no it wasn’t that … the bed was too big? But he never went to nap anywhere else after this so …: UNCLEAR.
All this just to let you know that the Editors for In The Soop, as we will see shortly, really tried, my friends they really did, and whoever must have been in charge of episodes 7 & 8 perhaps had a bit of a sleepless night. Let’s see why.
One of the Anons wondered why Jimin was the only one to have talked about the incident. The answer is in the question itself, which was:
How did you injure your knee?
And not
How did you break JK’s mosquito net?
As JK took no direct part in JM’s injury he was the only one to speak about the incident.
I’m going to talk about the moment in chronological order, which for some reason, is not how the editors put some of the sequence together, between the actual episode and it’s behind the scenes. This is paid content so it may not be available to everyone, but there are many people who are kindly uploading the first season so please do check it out as well for yourself in its entirety. If you want to just watch this particular moment then I’d suggest watching In The Soop ep 6 & 7 and BEHIND In The Soop ep 7.
It all started after a great evening spent drinking with the members, when everyone except Jikook went to bed. Jikook proceeded to drink some more, played ping-pong and then began chasing each other in the field like so:
Now, we are quite used to Jikook chasing each other, so this is not news
This time however, they were a bit tipsy, which gave JK and advantage on JM, whom after being pushed to the side, took some time to randomly collect a soccer ball, while JK ran into his cabin and randomly wore his boxing, waiting to surprise JM upon arrival inside his locked room 😅 … an extra drink or two, will make you do an extra random thing, or two.
Eventually, JM makes into the room, and after being mock-attacked by JK, he stumbles his way into the room and very unceremoniously drops himself on JK’s bed which has the mosquito net on, like so:
The next cut goes to them trying to get a now very broken mosquito net out of JK’s room. As it wasn’t completely broken before the cut, this is where some of y’all minds start wondering in that R-rated territory. “But JK wasn’t wearing his jumper anymore!” some will keep on going. And yes, he wasn’t. He removed his gloves and though we don’t see the moment, he indeed also removed his jumper, why? Only JK knows, and let’s not forget that JM did leave this room with the same garments with which he entered, so if you ask me, JM might have asked JK to pull him up, JK probably refused, JM insisted and being both tipsy, JK actually fell on the bed as well. So like a drunken rendition of this moment:
Okay? Okay.
So moving on, even though we can’t know exactly what happened between Jikook and the mosquito net, let’s proceed shall we? This is how they looked like taking the bloody thing out of the room:
After this particular scene where they are trying to get the net out of the cabin, JM somehow falls, bruises his knee, and that is the end of that. Eventually, in episode 8 we get the editors using a particular sequence to indicate that the net was being put back for JK. And now here is where the oddity happens: The sequence that has been chosen appears to actually be a clip of JK in his room the morning of the day of the accident:
Though there are other things that are tell-tell signs, the biggest giveaways lay (pun intended) on the bed. The way the duvet was left is exactly the same, the pillow is also in the same position, that black garment as well, which could not have been the same since JK did actually sleep in this bed at some point later that night, as we can tell from the shot of the following morning:
A cute fact is that JK played the guitar sometime between “the incident” and going to bed. The guitar is quite clearly out of the case, whereas it was in the case the whole time the day of the incident. Imagine this boy, probably carrying JM to his room in the main house since he bruised his leg, after which he went back to his room and before going to bed he played his guitar, somehow, it is very Jungkookie. Or maybe he took the guitar in JM’s room? Another thing that we will never know.
But this is also an option we can’t completely rule out, given this last fact; they seem to also have used different day’s sequence for JM’s next day. This is during the same day after the incident. One sequence on the dresser next to the purple light there are no bottles of water, in the other there are 2:
I mean, sure he could have woken to get 2 bottles of water and go to bed and completely ignore all the times J-Hope tried to wake him up … it is a possibility but, it does not make much sense does it?
So why declare they put back the net, when for the rest of the remaining episodes it clearly was not there? Why use different clips of JM rather than use the same one if they had no footage? As a person that does professional editing for her job, it is bizarre and kinda sloppy ngl … 😬… But bless those Editors souls, once again, I do think they tried their very best.
Now for the naked part of this particular moment. You have these 2 young men, who had just spent quite some good time with all their members. Yet apparently, it wasn’t enough and just the two of them decided that the night was young and by the laughter they really were having fun.
They could have played chase during the day, like vhope did with water balloons, but no. During the day they spent time doing all types of single-person activity or hanging out with other members mostly, while still occasionally checking on each other and waiting for the one night they could perhaps spend some quality time? During ITS2 they had that quality time night right off the bat the first night.
And with that final note, I’ve touched all the points I wanted to and hope I've answered everyone’s questions and concerns, if not please feel free to ask away!
Transparently yours,
Marengo.
