this is an old thing that I’ve had halfway drawn for a while but I’ve been thinkin abt it for a while bc like. it was a fun concept to play around w/ but I don’t think there’s room for it in the comic’s story as it is…. but I’m not gonna say it’ll never pop up idk

the only works that I've read that have had the fraction of impact as that fic sounds like it did is fucking....like a drum. the jean//marco one? anyone remember?? it wasn't that good but people went fucking insane about it and would reference it all the time and the author locked it iirc so you needed an account to view it. uhhhh I've spoken about the george de/valier fics and gutters but they weren't like...divisive or anything they were just really popular. gomens had that super popular one that I forget than name of but it was boring as hell and I don't understand why ppl kept harassing the author to update. there was also slow show which I think was widely influential but I didn't read it and in all honestly I don't think I interact with the popular members of fan communities enough bc they're usually creeps

ofc mdzs has sexytimes with wangxian which everyone hates and some other infamous fics that have quite terrible real-world impact, but nothing that's like, universally cited or considered the gold standard for characterizations or anything. multiple canons = a more sprawling fan experience. like gomens really took off after the show was created, so it was mostly off show canon, tho the books had a dedicated fanbase as well (just pretty small). all the controversies surrounding these works have way more to do with the canon itself rather than the ff

unlike cql/mdzs I never saw a lot of blending the gomens canons. book and show were just too different in character design, themes, personality...I'm honestly tempted to say that cql was more faithful to mdzs than gomens show was to the book, but it's hard to compare them. if anyone has input I'd love to hear it

OH ALSO A BREACH OF TRUST. real ones remember abot and all the creepy adults who milked child abuse for all it's worth and positioned reigen as this heroic savoir for a series that explicitly positioned mob as the protag of because it's his LIFE like way to erase that agency of a character who's practically canonically autistic for your savior fantasy. the character i least understand: hmm there’s so many characters throughout the series so it’s easy to pick a lot of side/minor characters who weren’t given much story. but in terms of more of the “main cast” probably mezato or musashi. i want to see more of them. with mezato it seems clear that she’s really dedicated to getting news for the school paper and i like that she won’t let people push her around, even spirits. with musashi i love that he’s in the body improvement club and so strong but he disagrees with senseless violence.

i guess it’s not really that i don’t “understand” them but i just want to see more of their characters since they interest me so much fjkhs

interactions i enjoyed the most: i loved mob and reigen ofc but also mob and the body building club. those dudes are so encouraging and i love them. also mob and tome! i love her and seeing them being friends is super cute.

the character who scares me the most: shou bc that kid is clearly holding so much power and he’s the son of a dude who seems like he’s going to be really important next season so yeah i wouldn’t fuck with the spiky redhead boy.

the character who is mostly like me: honestly it’s mob. he’s emotionless to most things and he loves milk. he’s one of the few fictional characters i really relate to.

one thing i dislike about my fave character: my favorite character is reigen and i guess it would be the fact that he uses mob. like i know he seems to genuinely care about mob to a degree but he’s also still an asshole and he’s been lying to him for as long as they’ve known each other lol

one thing i like about my hated character: i haven’t actually thought much about who my least favorite character is but it’s probably kamuro. he’s a creepy kid and he was a total dick for framing onigawara. but when i saw how awful his home life was and that he felt guilt later on for what he did i was like “okay it’s good that you’re able to admit what you did was wrong and improve”

a quote or scene that haunts me: i think it’s that first flashback scene we’re shown where mob attacked the men who were hurting his brother. it just cuts to there being blood everywhere and that was really the first scene in the anime that was dark and serious you know? ALSO the scene from that same episode at the end where mob experienced 100% sadness and he started crying fucked me up b y e

a death that left me indifferent: i don’t think anybody actually died?? like pretty much everyone’s status is alive, even all the members of claw. i guess i’d say dimple’s “death” left me indifferent bc he was funny but he was also a gross old man being a pervert towards 14 year old girls so i was like “can’t say i’ll miss you too terribly dude” /shot

a character i wish died but didn’t: ishiguro simply bc he fooled me into thinking he was a lady in a hot gas mask AND I WAS B E T R A Y E D

my ship that never sailed: i don’t?? really have any ships in the series??? like i know there’s teruki // mob and shou // ritsu which i think are the two most popular ships but i’m not super invested in either of them. i’d love for tsuchiya to have a girlfriend but that’s it lol
