Runa Ingellvar x Lace Harding - 369 words

Summary: Now that they're together, Harding has a request for Rook.

A/N: Another super duper short one, but these two are fun to write about!

“Um, Rook?” Harding said. “Could I… ask you something?”

Rook looked up from the book she’d been reading—a gothic novel she’d found in the Lighthouse’s library about a fortress haunted by demons, Harding knew. Rook kept bursting into laughter every few pages and stopping to read out loud passages she claimed were “hilariously wrong” about demons and corpse possession. Harding didn’t really understand what she was talking about, as was usually the case with all that Mourn Watch stuff, but she was glad Rook was enjoying herself.

“Sure,” Rook said, setting the book aside and leaning forward. “What’s up?”

They were both sitting in Harding’s room, as they often did these days. Rook was in the armchair, Harding underneath her canopy. This was at Harding’s request. She still couldn’t risk touching Rook, even by accident. And she knew from experience that Rook wasn’t the best about self-preservation, especially when it came to this situation. So, this was how it had to be. Much as Harding longed for it to be otherwise.

“Well,” Harding said, clearing her throat. “Now that we’re, you know, together…”

She felt heat creep up in her cheeks. You’d think she could be an adult about this, and not get flustered every time she remembered they were seeing each other, but there it was. She shook her head.

“Anyway, I was wondering if maybe… I could start calling you Runa? And you could call me… Lace?”

Harding winced internally, wishing she could’ve said this in a less hesitant way. It’s not like it was that big a deal.

Rook’s dark eyes widened. Then, she grinned and nodded enthusiastically.

“Yeah!” she said. “Yeah! I mean, of course! I’d really like that.”

Harding smiled fondly. Of course she’d had nothing to worry about.

“Great!” Harding said. “Thank you…. Runa.”

Rook—no, Runa—looked down at her lap, her dark hair falling in her face. But Harding caught a glimpse of how red her cheeks were against her pale skin.

So cute, Harding thought.

“Thanks… Lace,” Runa said, looking up with a sly smile.

Now it was Harding’s turn to blush. She pressed her hands to her mouth, feeling like her heart would beat out of her chest.

one of the things mourn watch rook has the most comments about/seems pretty knowledgeable about when they're there is the way the necropolis will just shuffle rooms around every now and then on a whim, so I'm headcanoning that rye's previous area of expertise, outside of general watcher duties, was keeping track of and rediscovering these lost or displaced areas. that, and basically acting as a sort of tour guide when need be, such as on the day they met varric.

'have we really misplaced the ashen cathedral again? *sigh* that's the third time this year, we really must strengthen the wards. oh well. someone send for ingellvar, they'll track it down in no time I'm sure. and it might keep them out of trouble for a while'
