Mini-review:

I'm a huge fan of Jeon Jong Seo and I enjoyed The Call very much, so I was really looking forward to Ballerina, her second collaboration with director Lee Chung Hyun. Thankfully, it didn't disappoint. It's sleek and visually stunning, and Jeon Jong Seo more than rises up to the challenge. She definitely has what it takes to be an action movie star. Tbh, the script and the story are much weaker and unoriginal than in The Call, but Lee Chung Hyun clearly knows how to direct the hell out of an action scene. Also, the movie is pretty short, so it goes straight to the point and it never gets boring. Anyway, I hope these two keep collaborating, cause so far they've been on fire together.

P.S. There's quite a lot of triggering content, and I recommend looking up some warnings before watching.

Wow, I fucking did it 50 movies from Nov 17th to Dec 31st. I figured I could, but there were definitely some days I had to push myself to watch something when I just wanted to chill with a dumb 5min youtube vid. Movie: Train to Busan Director: Yeon Sang-ho Genre: Action, Horror Rating: 4/5 Watched: January 1st, 2023

This was the first and only movie I watched so far this year. I picked it for my friends and I to watch after New Year’s celebrations because I have been wanting to watch it for years. I really enjoyed it as I knew I would. It was very action packed and even though not all of the emotional scenes hit me, some really did. The characters that survive might be a bit predictable. This was still a really fun movie about a very busy man that is trying to take his daughter to her mom while riding on a train with a zombie that soon starts infecting everyone. There are really good character and not so great or well developed ones, but if anyone is looking for a fast-paced action horror movie this one is pretty good.

Mini-review:

I have to say this movie deserves all the hype. Its mixture of soapy melodrama, weird humor and psychological drama proves to be a surprisingly effective way to handle such a dark, disturbing topic. It definitely won't suit all tastes, but I found it engaging, haunting and spellbending. Its main strength is probably its cast, with the three leads giving spectacular performances. I must particularly highlight Charles Melton's work, since he pretty much outshines two legends like Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman (but they are fantastic too, as I said). The script is brilliant as well, and I loved the metaphors and symbolisms used to signal the evolution of the characters. On top of that, the movie looks lovely, and Todd Haynes displays his mastery once again. So yeah, May December is a fascinating movie (but make sure to check out trigger warnings, even if they are full of spoilers).
