My headcanons Family Yukino!
Mystery was the husband of the grandmother Yukino, but he faked his death to prevent Shiromori from messing with his family and ruining everything, according to him. He only wanted to protect them, not in the way correct but in his way he did it.
Vivi is half kitsune, thanks to Mystery, who shares with her a very important family bond, he is her grandfather, supposedly deceased a few years ago.
The ancestor of the Yukino family was an onna-bügeisha who had gone to fight against an evil Mystery to avenge his Lord, who was also his father. The identity of the warrior was Mushi Yukino, who is Vivi's grandmother today.
The blue and sky colors of the Yukino family represent tranquility and hope in Japan, also being used to refer to witches or witchcraft in that country.
The name of Vivi's father is Joe Yukino.
The full name of Vivi is Vivianne.
Mystery knows that Mushi has known his true identity for a long time, which is why she almost always seems to reject him when he is around. He has a strong resentment against him, because she feels that he has betrayed them by faking his death.

Before MSA + 1: Vivi Meets Arthur
Vivi had been having a boring day.  She’d been planning on training with her dad, but he’d said someone had scheduled a private lesson so instead she was reading a book of ghost stories outside with Ben next to her.
Vivi was trying to figure out if the story about the silver man with a third eye was true when a short, stout man walked over, sat in one of the porch chairs, and opened a hunting magazine.
Vivi studied the man for a moment.  He looked pretty tough even though he wasn’t that much taller than her.  His body shape sort of reminded Vivi of how dwarves were often portrayed in fantasy series.  Plus she was pretty sure that was a wrestling championship belt he was wearing.  Also, his hair was pretty cool looking.  Orange and yellow with some black thrown in.  It even extended to his beard.  “Hi mister!”
He glanced over the top of his magazine.  “Hey.” Was that an accent she heard?
“I haven’t seen you before.  Are you new?”
“Nah.  Just prefer to keep to myself,” said the man.
He definitely had an accent.  There were some elements of the typical southern accent a good portion of Tempo had, but it also had a lilt that she hadn’t heard from anyone else local. Vivi wondered if she could figure it out if they talked some more.  If not, maybe after a bit of talking she would be able to ask without coming off as rude.  “I’m Vivi. Who’re you?”
“Lance.”
She got a name! “Did you schedule the private lesson?” asked Vivi.  “Dad doesn’t get many of those.”
Lance was silent. “My nephew needs some help.”
That caught Vivi’s attention.  Nephew, not son.  Was said nephew just visiting?  Or was this a permanent situation?  Was it a recent change or had it been like this for a while?  Was there a way to ask without being nosy?  “What’s his name?”
“Arthur.”
Vivi giggled. “Like the king.”
Lance groaned. “Yeah.  The king.”  Huh? Sore point?
A loud thump came from the dojo.  Vivi looked in that direction in surprise.  Wow, what were they doing in there?  Vivi glanced towards Lance and saw him looking in the same direction with a furrowed brow.  Was he worried?
Ben suddenly sat up and looked towards the dojo doors right before they were opened by Hiro. Vivi’s greeting died on her tongue when she noticed that A: He was bleeding, and B: He looked furious. “Dad?”
Hiro’s eyes darted to her before turning his attention to Lance.  “Why does your nephew know how to kill?”
Vivi’s mouth dropped open.  Lance winced, but didn’t seem too shocked.  “That bad?”
“He just…If that knife had been real…”  Hiro frowned and started pressing down on his head wound with a sigh.  “Were you even aware?”
Lance glanced at Vivi. “I only know what I told you before.”
Feeling curious, Vivi peered past her father and into the dojo.  Inside was a boy a bit younger than her who was clearly related to Lance. He was hunched in on himself and looked like he was about to have a panic attack.  He didn’t look like a killer.  He looked like a scared kid.
Ben stood and walked into the dojo.  “Ben?” Ben walked over to the boy, Arthur, and sniffed him.  Arthur blinked and held out a hand.  Ben licked Arthur’s hand before Arthur started petting him.  Vivi debated for a moment before following Ben into the dojo. Arthur stopped petting Ben and looked up at her with wide eyes.  Vivi waved. “Hey.”
“Hi,” said Arthur.
“So…You live with your uncle?”  Arthur nodded.  “I’m kind of surprised you managed to land a hit on my dad.  He’s pretty tough.  Must be getting old.”  Speaking of which, she could hear the two men talking in hushed tones that she couldn’t quite make out.
Arthur looked a bit uncomfortable.  “I didn’t mean to!” he said, an accent similar to his uncle’s coloring the words.
Vivi blinked. “Oh, did you mess up a move?  I do that all the time.”  She huffed.  “I just can’t seem to move correctly when I try to copy what Dad shows me.  I guess I’m just not suited for fighting.”
“You’re lucky,” muttered Arthur.
Vivi blinked. “Huh?”
Hiro walked back in, pressing some gauze to his head.  “Vivi, please step out so Arthur and I may continue the lesson.”
“Can I watch?” asked Vivi.
“Yes, you can. No, you may not,” responded Hiro.
Vivi pouted at her father’s grammar correction and walked back outside with Ben on her heels. Hiro closed the door behind her. Vivi huffed and sat down near Lance. The silence was awkward so she turned towards him.  “So, where did Arthur learn to fight anyway?”
Lance gave her a look. “That’s personal.”
“Okay.” Something about Lance just made it clear that was settled.  “So, where’s Arthur’s parents?”
“Not here.” Once again Lance somehow made Vivi not want to pursue the subject even though she wanted to know.
It was like some sort of mundane super power.
“You guys have pretty cool hair,” commented Vivi.  “How do you get it like that?”
“Gel.”
Vivi waited. Lance didn’t go into detail. “Wait.  That color’s natural?!”
“Yeah.”
How did that even work?!  She guessed the orange to yellow could be the color fading somewhat, but what about the bits that were black?  Especially the end of his beard?  How do you even go from orange to black naturally?  Vivi thought that sort of thing only showed up naturally in anime.
…Actually considering some of the anime hair people came up with, this was pretty tame.  Vivi fingered her own black hair.
Her family’s hair turned blue when their power awakened.  Her father died his hair black to avoid questions simply because he didn’t think he had the personality that would make dying his hair blue believable.  Her Obaa-san’s hair had turned gray before Vivi was born.
Vivi wanted blue hair. She didn’t like the way black hair looked on her, didn’t like how it looked with her clothes.  “I’m thinking of dying my hair blue,” she randomly said to Lance.  Lance gave a grunt in response.  “It’s kind of annoying how limited hair color is in humans, don’t you think?  Mostly black and brown.  Some red and orange and yellow.  I think it would add more color…More eye colors would be nice too. We have more eye colors than hair colors, but it’s still mostly brown I think.  Some blue.  Some green. Hazel.  Gray or purple if you’re lucky.  I guess red if you’re albino.  No orange or…”  She trailed off.  “Actually, your eyes look kind of orange.  Maybe those are just super rare too…”
“Pops up in the family,” said Lance as way of explanation.
Did Arthur have orange eyes too?  Vivi made a note to check when he came out of the dojo because she was definitely sticking around for that.
“So what do you do?” asked Vivi.
“Car mechanic.”
“Oh!”  A couple of things snapped into place in Vivi’s head. “Kingsman Mechanics!”
She’d never been there.  Tempo was just big enough to have three garages.  Two were big chain garages that you could find anywhere.  The last was Kingsman mechanics, which everyone preferred to the other two.  It was a bit out of the way and owned by the only employee, but the work was second to none, and the owner (Lance if Vivi was right.) was willing to do payment plans that other places wouldn’t consider.  Was apparently willing to barter to an extent if someone was in a tight spot.  Even had a junkyard behind the shop that Vivi could only assume was for scavenging or something.  When her father needed to have the car’s oil changed, he’d schedule at Kingsman Mechanics if he could get an appointment and they weren’t too busy.  The way he’d described the owner, he was shorter than most, muscular, no nonsense, practical, and Scottish.
Huh, so his accent must be a combination of Southern and Scottish.  No wonder it was so unusual.  “What got you into cars?”
“…Seemed like a waste of money to buy a car when I could fix one up for myself.”  Lance shrugged.  “Turned out I liked fixing up cars.”
Vivi nodded. “Yeah, it’s lucky to get a job you enjoy.”  She huffed. “I know what I wanna do, but I’ll probably have to get a second job or something.”  Paranormal investigating wouldn’t pay all the bills.
At this point, Baa-san suddenly appeared, walked over, and plopped several ofuda on Lance’s leg. “Put those on your windows. They’ll repel negative spirits.” Lance raised an eyebrow as Baa-san walked back into the house.
Vivi was more surprised by how many ofuda Baa-san had given Lance.  Why would he need that many so suddenly?  If he’d never needed them before…
Unless they weren’t for him.
“What exactly does your grandmother do for a living?” asked Lance.
“She’s a former miko, Japanese shrine maiden, a sort of priestess,” explained Vivi.  “Ofuda are…sort of like charms for luck or protection.”  Vivi took a closer look.  “Like Baa-san said, these are for repelling negative spirits that might try to hurt you. Kind of surprised she just came over and gave them to you.  Usually she asks a bit more about what’s going on.”  Actually, now that Vivi was looking closer, she could see these were ofuda that Baa-san had made, not Vivi, which would make them stronger than what they usually gave out.  “Are you being followed around by something nasty?”
Lance glanced toward the dojo.  Something to do with Arthur?  Lance looked back at Vivi.  “What exactly does your family do?”
“Well, like I said my Baa-san is a former miko, but still does little things out of habit. Dad is a theology teacher at the community college and teaches martial arts.  Mom’s a psychologist.”  Vivi grinned. “But we also occasionally do paranormal investigations.  Not a lot though.  Not much happens in Tempo.”
“Uh huh.”  Lance studied the ofuda for another few moments before stuffing them in his pocket.  So he was keeping them!  “Any other way to keep away ghosts?”
Vivi grinned. “Having a priest bless your house usually helps.  So does burning sage while praying.  Some places sell sage bundled into sticks specifically for that purpose.”
“Hm.”  Lance looked down for several moments.
Vivi opened her mouth to try and ask Lance if anything odd had been going on at his house, but Ben headbutted her in the stomach.  She huffed and gave him a look.  He just yawned.
“Does your dad give religion lessons?” asked Lance.
Vivi blinked. “What?  At home?”  Lance nodded. “I don’t know.  He already has his lectures at the college.”  What did religion have to do with seemingly unnecessary defense lessons and a possible haunting?  “You could probably sit in on Dad’s classes for free if you don’t care about getting credits.”
“It’s not for me.”
Wow, what was up with Arthur?  Before Vivi could ask, the dojo door opened.  Her dad walked out, Arthur following a moment later.  “That’s it for today.  Lessons will be Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.  The lessons on Saturday will be longer since school will not be an issue.”
Arthur looked at her dad in surprise.  Lance nodded. “Thanks.  Was getting worried I wouldn’t anyone.  Any chance you could teach him theology or something?”
Hiro blinked, frowned, and studied Arthur.  Arthur looked away, grasping at his arm.  Hiro nodded. “That might not be a bad idea. Can you bring Arthur after school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays?”
Lance nodded. “I’ll make it work. Somehow.”  He gestured turned, gesturing for Arthur to follow him. Arthur gave the Yukinos one last confused, lost look before leaving as well.
“What was that about?” asked Vivi.
Hiro sighed. “Arthur has had a rough life.  He needs a lot of help if he wants a chance at living normally.”  He turned to Vivi.  “Would you mind sitting in on the theology lessons?  It might help him if someone his age is present.”
An opportunity to figure out what’s going on?  “Sure.”
“And don’t try to push Arthur for answers.  He’s nowhere near ready,” continued Hiro.
Darn it.

Vivi, a special child
AO3 link
Well, here comes my first MSA fic ! Just like for my “main” UT fic (god does this story needs to be continued >_<), I intend to make a long story (tagged under the name “From strangers to family”) going into the different kind of events the group may end up living (including some pre-cave, post-hellbent and also shipping. Lots of shipping) along with some childhood pieces before it so stay around if you're interested !
Random note : Apparently Grandma Yukino is supposed to live with the couple (according to the wikifan) but, for plot convenience, I decided to remove that detail (sorry for those who are picky on this kind of stuff...).
“Thank you so much for accepting to take care of her, especially with you being only there for vacations.”, Mrs.Yukino, usually always full of energy, looked like she would pass out any minute.
“It is no trouble.”, her mother-in-law answered, looking at the small blue-haired child crawling towards them.
“Are you sure you can handle this ?”, M.Yukino asked.
“Well, I handled you; surely I will be fine.”, she affirmed with a smirk, getting a chuckle from her daughter-in-law and an eyeroll from her son.
“Alright !”, the young mother clapped her hands together. “We should go now. We'll be back in about three hours.”
“Don't hesitate to call us if something goes wrong.”, M.Yukino insisted.
“Of course.”, the old lady rolled her eyes. “Now go and have a great time !”, she waved as the couple left the room.
Once they were gone, she turned to the child, still crawling around. The little girl was only seven months but she was already showing to be smart and agile. The new grandma smiled before turning her attention to one of her bags.
“You can come out now.”, she called.
The bag wiggled until a small white-and-red head came out of it. The dog barked, getting out to join his owner. He followed with curiosity the lady's gaze, which was back on the small blue figure.
“I present you Vivianne, the newest member of the Yukino clan.”
The animal just watched the infant with a surprised look, making the old lady laugh. “She sure does look familiar to you, does she not ?”, the animal snorted as an answer but still slowly approached the tiny figure. The bluenette looked at him curiously before smiling and the dog let out a yelp of surprise as the girl suddenly hugged him. He tried to protest but had to accept his fate against the child's surprising strength. Her grandma let out a giggle but quickly went more serious as she approached the duo.
“My dear kitsune;”, she started. “for years now, you have remained a loyal member of the Yukino clan, and like every century, it will soon be time for you to find a new owner, who will give you love, residence and affection for as long as they live. In some years, once Vivianne will be older, I will tell her to come to our home in Japan, where you will fake being a wounded animal in need of a place to stay. May her heart be in the right place and you will be bounded to her. So, my dear friend;”, she put a hand on the disguised creature's head. “do you accept to stay by her side for as long as she will need, to remain loyal to her to the point of risking your own life to her, to defend those she cares about and to always bring warm to her days ?”
The kitsune looked lost in thoughts for a minute, before barking with a smile and licking the infant's face, who happily laughed. Her grandma smiled warmly and watched as her pet stood away from the child to turn into his true form. The toddler looked at him with stars in her eyes.
“Hello.”, the kitsune said, his face close to the bluenette who started petting him happily, still looking amazed.
The beast stayed with the girl for a long moment, entertaining her. However, time passed and way too soon his owner called him back to hide.
“Well, looks like it is time to go.”, he said, smiling at the girl. “You will not be able to remember me, but in a few years, we will be together again.”, he gently licked her face and started to transform back into a dog.
“See you soon, Vivianne.”
Note : Just so you know, when I say Vivi won't remember him, it's not because of some kind of spell but simply the fact that she's less than a year old (so won't remember her “babyhood”)
Also “to defend those she cares about” : here comes the beginning of my list of stuff that characters say and that look perfectly innocent until you think of what happens in MSA; aka my “I am a horrible person who likes angst way too much” list.

Mystery March 15: Family
Halfway there W00T
Also this is a continuation of my MSA Holiday Spirits Gift for @worldbeyondtheworld
Arthur jumped at the sudden ring of the phone. He sent it a suspicious look. It was almost midnight, who would be calling? It was too late for even a spam call.
Tentatively,, he answered it. "Hello?"
"Arthur?" A familiar voice asked. It was that friend of Vivi's cousin. Velma or something. "What are you doing up?"
"Why did you call if you thought I wouldn't be up?" Arthur countered.
"I thought Lewis would be up, since he doesn't need to sleep. It doesn't matter though. How fast can you, or at least Vivi, get to Moonscar Island?"
Arthur shifted and grabbed a pencil and paper while he used his shoulder to hold the phone to his ear. "Depends. Where is it?"
"A bayou in Louisiana, near New Orleans." Arthur looked unimpressed.
"You do realize we're in Texas, right? And Lewis is the only one who can fast travel via medium."
"I know, but we're seriously out of our depth here. We were told it was a ghost, we were ready for ghosts. We were not ready for centuries old Voodoo cat people who sustain their immortality by draining the life from their victims, and the zombiefied remains of the previous victims."
Arthur fumbled and almost dropped the phone. "Are you safe now? Is anyone missing?" He stood up and started running towards the bedroom Lewis and Vivi were sleeping in.
"We're all together and all fine, I think. Shaggy and Scooby got slightly life drained, but he seems to be fine now. The cat creatures are dead, but Fred-"
Arthur cursed, Vivi would NOT take it well if her cousin was hurt. "Okay Velma, I just need you to keep it together a little while longer-''
~
"What the Hell?" Detective Bo Neville cried as a giant fox with a young woman and young man riding on it appeared with a fiery skull ghost by its side.
"I thought you were in Texas?" Daphne asked, getting up.
"Magic cheating." Arthur answered. "It's expensive, and I don't mean monetarily. But yeah, this seemed worth it."
"What going on with Fred?" Vivi jumped off Mystery and ran over to the group, only to have her own question answered the moment she saw him. "Okay, I see the problem." she said, extremely relieved.
"As I believe Vivi can handle this, the rest of us should make sure there were no unexpected surprises where the rituals took place. Could you guide us to the site? And not you two,” he nodded at Shaggy and Scooby. “Until you've had a thorough examination, I want you to rest." Mystery asked.
Shell-shocked, Detective Neville led them away.
"So," Vivi said, sitting on the ground, "Tell me what happened?"
~
They were trapped. Unable to move, despite nothing physically restraining them. The wax dolls did their work. As Lena said, they'd have lots of practice.
"Are we supposed to feel sorry for you?" Daphne snapped after they told their tale. "What the pirates did to you was horrible, and I can understand wanting revenge on them. But then you became worse than the pirates, not only killing innocent people and taking their possessions, but trapping their souls too!"
Lena hissed and slammed Daphne against the wall. Fred struggled against his invisible bonds when suddenly he felt a shift.
He was no longer tied in a cave, but on the ground in a gently snowing forest. He got up, no longer restrained, and saw someone sitting on a rock. Vivi? No, that wasn't who this was. "Mushi-obaasan?" he asked.
"Hello again Fred." Her voice wasn't what he was expecting, so different than Vivi's. "Can we talk for a bit?"
"But my friends-" Fred looked around, trying to find a way back to them.
"Time passes differently here. Don't worry, not matter how long we talk, no time will pass for them. Tell me, what did Vivi tell me of the clan your family married into?"
"Vivi said the Yukino Clan were protectors. That they protected people from evil." Fred recalled. "And that you were known for your swordsmanship and winter powers."
"Not bad, but perhaps overly simplified." Mushi smiled. "The worlds of man and magic tend to cross. Sometimes it's peaceful, and other times not. And not always were the yōkai - the magical ones - the aggressors. I and my clan acted as protectors. We protected human from yōkai and yōkai from humans. Though the gift of ice was originally a part of our bloodline, it faded through the generations. Now it only occurs when I deem one worthy. But as the two worlds separated, the need for the Yukino clan to answer the call to its traditional role comes rarely."
"Kinda wish we had someone like that with us now," Fred admitted.
"Funny, you should mention that." Mushi laughed. "Fred, you're family by marriage, and by the love of the family. But would you like to formally join the Yukino clan - ?"
"But I don't know anything about yōkai, except a bit about ghosts. Or how to fight." And he was probably about to die, but Lewis showed that didn't necessarily lower one's combat potential.
"But even not knowing how, would you? For those that need help?" She reached her hand out.
~
Fred's eyes suddenly lost focus as Lena attacked Daphne. Then his arm slowly rose, unaffected by the wax's spell.
"No! How is he doing that?" Simone grabbed his arm and tried to shove it back down. Then his hand suddenly clasped shut and Simone screamed as her claws became frozen in ice.
Fred's eyes sharpened as awareness returned to him. He was back in the cave, but didn't feel restrained by the doll anymore. He stood and could feel the ice thrumming inside him, begging to be let out. He held on to it, though. He was still too close to Daphne and Velma to risk it being let loose. The frost climbed along his arms and fists, but didn't bother him.
He aimed a sloppy punch at Lena, which grazed her shoulder, leaving shards of ice in its wake.
"What are you?" Lena hissed.
"A Yukino." Fred said with a grin. He pushed the ice out from his hands along the floor, freezing Lena and Simone’s feet to the floor. Once sure they couldn't move, he pulled the hair and cloth out of the dolls of Daphne, Velma, and Bo.
"Grandma Mushi?" Daphne asked lightly.
"Grandma Mushi'' Fred confirmed, before Shaggy and Scooby's screams rent through the cave.
They all ran towards the sound, but Fred pulled ahead. He got to the mouth of the cave and felt his heart stop as he saw Shaggy and Scooby in Jacques’ claws. His vision narrowed until he only saw his friends, their bodies shriveling like the zombies that had been chasing them.
The Ice surged through him and he made a jump he certainly wouldn’t have been capable of before. He grabbed Jacques’ head in both his hands and shoved all the ice he could.
The giant cat monster fell over and his frozen head smashed to pieces on the stone floor.
“Like, Ice timing, Fred,” Shaggy said weakly, even as he began to return to normal. “I was beginning to feel like a raisin.”
“Are you guys okay?” Fred asked, trying his best to ignore the very dead body he had just killed.
“Retting rere,” Scooby answered.
“Boys!” Daphne ran forwards and flung her arms around them. “I’m so glad you’re okay.”
“You okay Fred?” Velma asked, glancing between the frost falling from his fingertips and Jacques’ corpse.
“I have no idea,” Fred answered honestly.
As he said this the zombie surged in. Shaggy and Scooby shrieked and Fred took a defensive posture. But he didn’t feel the same pressure and urgency from the ice he had before.
And the zombies seemed content to ignore them, save for one confederate soldier that helped Shaggy up and another who patted Scooby’s head as they passed.
“Like, what was up with that?” Shaggy asked in wonder.
“The zombies aren’t the bad guys.” Velma explained. “They were the victims, those Simone, Lena, and Jacques killed over the centuries.”
“Zoinks,” Shaggy said, more quietly than usual.
“What do we do now?” Daphne asked quietly.
“I think we don’t do anything.” Fred answered. “I think this is the zombies finding peace.”
As if in response twin screams came from the chamber and Jacques body slowly dissolved into aether. The zombies still lingering in the passage collapsed, their spirits joining a parade of souls floating upward.
The soldier who helped Shaggy up stopped to salute them “Thank you kindly,” he said, before floating upwards.
“What just happened?” Bo asked.
“A lot.” Daphne said simply, and Fred leaned against the cave wall to catch his breath.
The wall froze.
“You have no idea how to turn the ice off, do you?” Velma observed.
The floor under his feet froze.
Velma sighed. “Let’s call your cousin.”
~
“And that’s it.” Fred finished from the center of the ring of ice that surrounded him.
“I’m so glad you’re safe,” Vivi hugged him, being unaffected by the cold he was projecting. “Now the first thing-” She was cut off by a sudden explosion as violet-tinged fire poured out of the mouth of the nearby cave. “Sounds like the boys are almost done. Now the first thing we need to do is get you a weapon.”
“I think I am a weapon.” Fred waved his icy hand back and forth.
“And that’s your problem.” Vivi explained, “Mushi had her sword and I had my bat. We channeled the ice through them and that made it easier. Putting down or sheathing a weapon is a great way to mentally end a dangerous situation. But you used your hands, and you can’t really put those down. And the fact that you’re still in enemy territory and very freaked out isn’t helping. As far as the ice is concerned, you’re still in battle.”
“But the cat monsters are gone-”
“Oh you have a lot to learn.” Vivi bemoaned. “They’re gone. This is still enemy territory. And this place is steeped in two hundred years of sacrificial magic. That doesn’t vanish in an instant. The boys are making sure no one can access it easily, but it’s going to be a long while before Moonscar Island isn’t steeped in the kind of power the Yukino clan is dedicated to stopping.”
“Evil Cat God Altar is toast,” Arthur announced cheerfully, Detective Neville behind him with a hundred yard stare. “Lewis is checking to see if anything else in the house needs a good cleansing fire and Mystery is negotiating non-hostilities with the cats.”
“The cats?”
“Yeah, turns out they’ve absorbed enough of the magic those three were using to not be normal cats anymore. The general argument Mystery is using is their colony attacked yours first and you retaliated. And that there will be no further retaliation if they don’t start anything.” Arthur explained.
“Can we go now?” Detective Neville asked in a small voice.
“Lewis can melt anything Fred accidentally freezes, so we should be good as soon as he gets back.”
“I’m going to be stuck in Texas again, aren’t I?” Fred asked dryly.
“Yup, you need training. Combat and study.” Vivi said cheerfully. She helped him up and gave him a bone-crushing hug. “And this may be weird to say, since we’re cousins, but welcome to the family, Fred.”

Keep in mind that in the official MSA canon, neither Lewis nor Vivi’s parents have canon first names. This is just something for a fanfic I wrote.
For the Pepper family, Mr. Pepper is Joe while Mrs. Pepper is Lokia, the names originating from the Bhut Jolokia pepper.
I thought about borrowing the name “Jala” (as in the jalapeño chili pepper) for Mr. Pepper from that popular audio fandub ahjones94 made, but to me it just sounds so ridiculous when you say it out loud. So I tried using Joe, find that he looks like a Joe, and just went with that.
The Yukino family is a bit of a doozy. I gave Grandma Yukino the name Fuyuko since it literally means “winter child” in Japanese.
For Mr. Yukino, I used Nobuhiro for three reasons. One, it’s confirmed he’s Japanese born from a traditional Japanese mother, so it would only be logical that he has a Japanese name himself. Second, one variation of the name Nobuhiro can be written with the kanji for “trust” and “broad-minded”. And third, it also somewhat sounds like “noble hero.” So in the end, his name is just a silly pun or something.
For Mrs. Yukino, I gave her the name Jolene. She’s simply named after a character from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. Although their personalities are way different, they do look fairly similar at first glance, especially their hair styles.
In Knights, for Jason, he’s named after Jason Ritter, who voiced Dipper Pines from Gravity Falls, which is said to be Vivi’s favorite show.
