As Em just put in this brilliant post (now with a diagram!) it's entirely possible that each UD is a destroyed version of the alternate timeline:

As I laid out back in March, we likely have 6 separate versions of the HNL massacre.

One set of factors is the swapped mirror:

The other set of factors is the crack patterns in the Rainbow Room, or lack thereof:

(Gate, dematerialization, and no-event cracks respective to photo order)

Dematerialization is a separate process from the gate, and the two aren't ever shown on screen together outside the one dual outcome overlay.

No gate, just dematerialization:

2 mirror alignments * 3 outcomes = 6 total outcomes

As we're shown in 4.07, when we follow One through the gate, it takes us directly to Dimension X:

And dematerialization, as we're shown in Season 1, pulls us directly to the Upside Down:

So that makes: Upside Down, Dimension X, and Right Side Up...and one of each of those for Henry and Edward. Still totaling 6!

This tracks with what I laid out about the two different Dimension X Ones:

Number of Jumpsuit Patterns? Six. ("But James, there are only 5 there!" I know. Consult the bloodless jumpsuits from before. There are two of them. Thus, JA, JB1 and JB2, JC, JD, JE. Six suits)

Back in May, I asked the "What happened to the other two non-Dimension-X jumpsuit guys?" question.

The answer may very well be: The Two Upside-Downs, becoming the physical Monster Vecna, one of which we see getting Flambéd™ by Nancy et. al.

Make sense? 1 Monster Vecna, 1 Dimension-X One, and one Normal Guy One per timeline: 6 guys. 6 places. The math is mathing.

This all also tracks with what I said about Vecna as a puppet/symbiotic partner of sorts who connects to Dimension X via ethernet tentacles:

It also explains how the USSR has an active Shadow, despite the Side-Side gates being shut:

There may be two of them. The one in Russia may have awoken due to the up-down gates being opened in Hawkins.

Now, you're probably wondering why I linked the nuclear winter/nuclear bomb posts.

As I said in my post about the Rifts:

One dropped a whole-ass nuclear bomb on Hawkins when he opened the rifts and began merging the Upside Down with the Right Side Up. This resulted in a gradually spreading nuclear winter. Thus, if any other timelines/universes were to collide, we could expect much the same effect:

As Em said in his post, it's entirely possible to have a timeline split based on which timeline/universe survived the collision, thus generating a set of 4. Two Upside Downs, two Right Side Ups...and both Upside Downs are experiencing the associated unending nuclear winter.

Then, of course, the question becomes: Which One collided the universes, why, and how?

Of course this is all speculation and relies heavily on what we might see in The First Shadow...but I know most of you have seen me speculating on the full extent of Henry's powers. If Henry isn't the ST4 Vecna, then we really have no clue what the extent of his powers are.

For example: Vecna couldn't open gates until he copy-pasted that power from El and cobbled it together into his own form of gate opening. Henry might not be constrained by that same lack of ability.

In fact, based on what information we have been given about The First Shadow, it's entirely possible that he did open a gate of some kind.

How do I figure that?

There are monsters in The First Shadow, and it's touted as being the origin of the Upside Down, not to mention Matt hinting the Brenner already knew that Henry had access to other worlds even before The First Shadow had been teased (That Deadline article is from July of 2022).

We also have BTS pictures from the filmed show of the Creel house fully decked out in UD tentacles...even in places Stobin+Nancy never visit when they go to fight Vecna.

Namely, we have tentacles in the parlor to the right of the front door and the dining room respectively...ft. Raphael as baby Henry:

So...it's entirely possible that Henry did it by accident or otherwise back in 1959, which would explain why both versions of Upside Down Hawkins are completely abandoned: They may have been in a state of multidimensional nuclear winter for the past 27 years.

This could explain why it seems like there’s only two more concrete timelines (the weekly watcher/Henry timeline vs the indianapolis gazette timeline) but also so much evidence of more than two timelines (in this case, four) (all of henward’s changing jumpsuits, the whole four gate thing in S4, the fact that there’s two different blue UDs) …

No one is going to create 20-30 chapters worth of fake leaks just to bait or spite, let's not act like conspiracy theorists. The leaks are probably real which is sad but it's better to accept the reality than trying to lie to yourself n then end up experiencing ultimate downfall.

As I said before, when I believed it was real, I dont give a fuck about it and feel no personal connection to it. When I saw them, I didnt feel pain or anything really.

(again, im open to all possibilities like being partially real and partially fake, fully real, fully made by assistants, fully ai with some corrections etc. I just point out at how ridiculous and empty this is, and think it means something, no matter how little it is -even if it is just that they wanted to finish the job without feeling the same level of passion).

In my personal opinion, the Mindflayer is somewhere between the God particle and AM from IHNMAIMS. None of the references the Duffers use are going to end up being 1:1, so I'm not sure I'd expect the Mindflayer to be anything less than a mishmash of concepts Frankensteined together.

For the light particles, we don't have any current indication that they share the Mindflayer's sentience, nor do we have any concrete proof that the dust particles alone are sentient without a human component (whether that be Henry, Edward, Captain Brenner, Dr. Brenner, or some secret other guy)...but I am staring at the God particle being comprised of Cs-137 vs the initial plan of having the Mindflayer be formed from the rocks/ore of Dimension X before that plot was somewhat scrapped. The inspiration is there!

For the light particles in ST, at least, they seem to center on points of electricity/electrical connection, which seem to be points of direct connection between the RSU and UD—Hence why the kids could communicate via the lights in their UD without having any psionic powers. To me, the light particles are markers of those electrical connection points, similarly to how the orange particles in Dark are leftovers from someone who just connected with/traveled between the Sic Mundus, Erit Lux, or original worlds.

In short: I wonder if the orange particles in ST don't indicate a connection point between timelines.

The ST4 UD is different, however, from the UD in ST1-3, as I outlined here, and that one reminds me more of the time windows within the Sic Mundus universe in Dark, especially since one of those time windows connects to the apocalypse.

Which... a) Intra-timeline time travel is already quite subtextually evident in Stranger Things, and the connection to Henry and El's abilities is something I theorized about last year.

b) An apocalypse is something I speculated on re: why the UD is the way it is in ST1-2 (read: toxic and radioactive), while the kids in ST4 are totally fine hanging out in their UD (they're not the same UDs).

There's also references to the Pocket Universe from Fringe in the ST1 UD, and there's a triangle of dual-or-more timeline references between Fringe (red/blue universes vs the final timeline), Dark (Sic Mundus, Erit Lux, and original timeline), and Stranger Things (Henry, Edward, and the very real possibility of a secret third universe).

So I digressed a bit, but...

tl;dr: The question may not be where Will and the others went in 1983, but when. Likewise, the question in ST4 may be less when and more what world...Which would leave ST5 with the question: when, and in what world?

You ever think about the orange particles left behind by inter-universe/timeline travel in Dark as compared to the new orange particles in ST4.

It's been haunting me bc we don't see these particles until we get the alternate Upside Down (wall gates vs floor gates).

Ahhh yes, my other brainchild that I ignore all the time. I feel like the joke title for that one was F*ck Around F*nd Out lol.

I have a lot of bits and pieces of that one written, but I made the decision to focus on the soulmate AU I've got running on A03 (and now Adopt a Jock and the BB fic lol) because it's gonna be another one with super long chapters and I'm having enough fun attempting to wrangle the fifth chapter of the Soulmate AU (it's become its own damn novel at this point but so help me that fic will only be six chapters if I have to FORCE it to be six chapters!) So what I have linked under it is what's been posted thus far, and nothings on A03.

Once the Soulmate AU's finished, it's gonna be my next Big Fucker in terms of fics, so it'll get there! Not sure when, but it will get there!

Gates and Gravity (Reprise)—How did Vecna, specifically, get into the Up-Down Upside Down?

I was revisiting this post recently:

And something struck me.

If One's various banishments in 4.07, all of them, happened via side-side gates:

Then how the hell did Vecna get into an up-down gate dimension?

There's a fairly simple answer, one that I've already written in the original post, but I realized it was a question I hadn't specifically addressed.

So. How did he do it? Like I said, fairly simple:

You could, theoretically, access the Side-by-Side using any gate that isn't on solid ground (ex: Not the bottom of a lake or a basement floor). You could then, by that logic, access the Upside Down using any gate that isn't vertical against solid ground (ex: Not the side of a pool, a basement wall). So, when Joyce and Hopper walk into the basement wall of HNL, they'd walk out into that same basement but backwards, the same way Steve swims down into the bottom of Lover's Lake and comes up through the bottom of the same lake. Thus, if there was a Wall Gate in Eddie's trailer and you were accessing the Upside Down, you could walk through it, but you'd fall upward to the ceiling-ground outside, because everything is up-down inverted except directionality. Likewise, if there was a Ceiling Gate in Joyce's house, and you were accessing the Side-by-Side from her kitchen, you'd pop out through the roof, but everything would be reversed left-right.

How do I figure that? Dimension X is a mirrored dimension, and neither side is our Earth. However, one side is oriented upside down, meaning theoretically speaking...the other side should be oriented right side up.

Thus, logic follows that whoever ended up in the right side up Dimension X should be the One in the Side-by-Side, the One with the Mindflayer...and the One in the upside down Dimension X should be the One in the Upside Down...the One with Vecna.

When we see One falling into Dimension X, he's quite literally tumbling. His orientation is reversing and righting throughout the entire fall.

"Thus, if there was a Wall Gate in Eddie's trailer and you were accessing the Upside Down, you could walk through it, but you'd fall upward to the ceiling-ground outside, because everything is up-down inverted except directionality."

Like I said in the original post—If time proves me wrong re: whether the Duffers are using the simple vs complex version of this phenomenon, then it does. And I think it just did.

If the gates were mutually exclusive, then the up-down gate dimension shouldn't be a factor at all, because both Ones were banished using side-side gates (unless we want to speculate about things we haven't seen, but that's a different conversation based on less evidence).

However, it's entirely possible that the One who became Vecna reversed his orientation as he fell, just like I described in my original post.

Ahed is a 33 year old father of three young girls with his wife Maisoon. Getting Ahed the funds to evacuate his family is very urgent because they have three children under the age of ten with them, who currently don’t have access to food, clean water, or medical treatment they need. They’re at risk of bombs, infectious illnesses, and starvation every day they remain in Gaza. every hour matters

Ahed’s daughters are the light of his life and his motivation to keep going, and he’s campaigning on here every day to keep them safe. In Ahed’s words, his daughter Fatima (9) is “the closest to my heart, and my little one.”, Iman (6) “The friendly, kind, and loving child who is loved by everyone”, and little Nour, only one year old: “Who did not live her life like other children, as she was born two months before the war”.

Imagine that you’ve just had a baby girl, and you look at her with so much love and imagine with excitement what a bright future she’ll have and how she’ll play with her siblings. And only two months later, your whole life is turned upside down, and you have to wonder every day how you’ll feed her and keep her safe.

This is what happened to Ahed and his wife when they should’ve been at their happiest with a newborn daughter, everything turned into a nightmare. Their apartment was destroyed in a bombing, they were displaced multiple times, and suddenly they were raising their beautiful daughters in a war zone.

Every hour in Gaza is dangerous. Please help get Ahed, Maisoon and their children to safety as soon as possible 🙏🏼 Every donation will bring them closer to a future where Fatima, Iman, and Nour can play together and go to school and rest and recover from what they’ve been through.

Please give Ahed and Maisoon peace where they don’t have to watch their children suffer from illness and malnutrition, the worst thing for a parent to experience.

Please let Nour experience what peace feels like.

I am speaking on behalf of @eslamfa1, who has her own campaign for her and her family so they may survive under the harsh conditions in Gaza. She is very thankful for all the support she's had, but she needs more help.

She has asked me to host a fundraiser for more of her family, namely for her parents and siblings who desperately need funds for food, water, and medical treatment. They have been displaced multiple times and have only been able to contact Eslam through an unreliable internet connection.

Here is their story as written by her sister, Aya:

"Hello friends, we will tell you our sad story

I am Aya, an outstanding high school student. I was very happy to be on the verge of achieving my dream of finishing my school studies and achieving what I aspired to, which is to become a doctor.

My family of 8 and a beautiful cat named Katie were living a beautiful and peaceful life, each of us striving to achieve our dreams.

We had our beautiful house in Khan Yunis. Recently, we were celebrating my sister Heba’s fourth place in the Gaza Strip in the Arabic language recruitment exam. Our life was like material and emotional perfection. We did not feel deprived or lacking anything.

My sister Lina is a university student. Her dream was to become a psychologist to help mentally ill people in the Strip.

My brother Ahmed was the most beautiful gift from God. He came after 20 years of being deprived of male siblings. After completing his studies, he became a water carrier and took on a great responsibility beyond his capacity.

We also had two little butterflies, the apple of the house, and Jana, the favorites of their teachers and friends at school.

Then the war broke out and everything was turned upside down. We were forced to leave the house after quadcopters surrounded us, tanks surrounded us, and we saw death right in front of our eyes, but we miraculously escaped.

We were displaced several times on foot. Feet, then our end was in a tent that did not protect us from the cold of winter or the heat of summer, and there were poisonous insects and scorpions around us, there was no clean water or healthy food, so my family and I got hepatitis and a lot of intestinal infections.

We were shocked that our house was bombed and destroyed and the features of the house disappeared from the face of the earth, so we felt very sad and despair took over us.

Life here in Gaza is expensive, we cannot buy the minimum necessities of life, imagine that the price of a kilo of tomatoes is $50, and the price of a bag of flour is $200, life here is like a famine! My father is a nervous patient and my mother suffers from chronic pressure and they need continuous treatment and medications. We suffer from bringing water from long distances, and from the high prices of food and cleaning materials and water pollution. What we have suffered most in this war is the loss of members of our family, and this is the hardest thing we have been through. We have lost 20 members of our family. Please help us bear the very high cost of living until we evacuate from Gaza and save our lives. The cost per person is $5,000. Help us, you are the only hope left."
