Boek review: de vijf pilaren van de islaam.

Al jarenlang ben ik opzoek naar betrouwbare, islamitische boeken voor mijn kinderen. In het Engels vind je nog wel het een en ander, maar Nederlandstalig is schaars. Steeds vertalen tijdens het lezen vind ik nogal vervelend en mijn kinderen beheersen de Engelse taal niet zo goed om het zelf te kunnen lezen. 

Ibn Baaz Bookstore staat bekend om hun betrouwbare boeken. Ik ben er dan ook al wat jaren klant en volg ze ook lange tijd via instagram. Als zij wel eens aan volgers vragen welke boeken er missen in het assortiment ben ik een van de eerste die reageert met: BOEKEN VOOR KINDEREN. Dit is het eerste Nederlandstalige kinderboek dat gepubliceerd is door Ibn Baaz Bookstore. Ik hoop dat ze nog heel veel kinderboeken zullen uitbrengen in sha Allah.

Ik was enorm enthousiast toen het nieuws kwam over het boekje ‘’de vijf pilaren van de islaam’’. De vijf pilaren moet iedere moslim natuurlijk kennen. Het is dan ook erg belangrijk dat je je kinderen dat al vroeg meegeeft. Heel je leven is hierop gebouwd. Zeker nu, tijdens de lockdown, is het belangrijk om de extra tijd die je met je kinderen hebt te besteden aan het opdoen van kennis.

De auteur van het boek is Oem Dawud. Het boek heeft een hard cover met een mooie speelse tekening. Het heeft 64 bladzijde met daarin informatie, weetjes, smeekbedes, verhaaltjes en tekeningen die gemaakt zijn door Captured Thoughts. De tekeningen zijn mooi, kleurrijk en passen helemaal bij deze tijd. 

Na elk hoofdstuk vind je een ‘’test jezelf’’. Dat maakt dat kinderen zelfstandig kunnen controleren of ze de kennis goed hebben opgenomen. Wat ik zo mooi vind is dat kinderen aangemoedigd worden om het nog een keer rustig te herhalen als zij het niet goed hebben onthouden en dat het niet erg is als ze de ‘’test jezelf’’ niet goed hebben beantwoord. 

Als bonusmateriaal hebben ze de islamitische maanden toegevoegd. Er handig om meteen te leren, omdat er 2 pilaren mee verbonden zijn. 

Het boekje is geschreven in duidelijke taal en daardoor is het goed voor kinderen, maar bijvoorbeeld ook voor nieuwe moslims of juist mensen die islaam willen leren kennen. Als ouder en onderwijzer vind ik het een heel fijne leidraad. Mijn zoon van 5 is nog vrij jong en ondanks dat begrijpt hij het boekje goed. 

Waarom het ook een goed boek voor nieuwe moslims is, is omdat het gebed er heel duidelijk in beschreven staat met bij elke stap een tekening. Zo kun je makkelijk leren bidden. 

Wij hebben al flink wat lesjes met het boek gedaan en de kinderen vinden het een erg leuk boek. Het is zeker een aanrader om aan te schaffen. 

Het is ook leuk om het boekje cadeau te geven met bijvoorbeeld een gebedskleed.

How I taught my little boys to read ❤️❤️ During the first years of these two's life, I focussed mainly on instilling the Love for Reading, as well as the beginning year of Homeschooling. We started when they were 4ish. Rather than teaching The How, I focused on Why (why must they love reading?). I know it's not the conventional way. But i knew if a child learns to Love something from the heart, they will never lose their interest in it. I bought from thrift stores & borrowed books from Library. We went for all types from Picture books to Small readers books. The illustrations always helped as kids always ask what does the book say when they see the visuals. I didn't start with A, B, C, D's of reading but they listened to me as we read our books aloud together. Sometimes we read a book so many times my kids memorized it all. Then when they picked up that particular book again, they knew the words and how they looked. Eventually by the time I got them to love reading along I invested in "Teach Your Child to read in 100 Easy Lessons" (Picture in the last slide) I cannot rave enough of this book which is also a curriculum. We did not need to finish the 100 lessons Alhamdulillah. Both my kids who are 18 Months apart learned to read very well by 60th lesson. Which we also skipped many pages to, because it does have alot of repetition for mastery. You guys always ask what I used to teach my kids to read.
