Vocaloid Songs You Might Have Missed - December 2023

Welcome back to my blog. Just like that, it's the last post for the year... never mind that it's already 2024. But for this longtime fan, 2023 was the best year in ages for Vocaloid music.

Something I mentioned in an earlier entry is that so much Vocaloid music over the past few years has felt like bait for singers to cover. (And to paste their avatars over in the videos... I'm far from the first person to notice this!) I don't mention this entirely to be a hater, but to contrast with the type and quality of release I've seen this year. Many of the 'vtuber bait' songs I poke fun at are truly great and destined to live on forever in Vocaloid history, but I've always felt a difference between songs that use vocal synths in the absence of a human singer and those that lean into the synthetic nature of the voices and the characters that represent them.

Over the past few years, a renewed interest in idiosyncratic voicebanks like Adachi Rei, Utane Uta (entirely synthetic), and the MAIDLOIDs (derived from a h-game moan synthesis engine) has coincided with technological advancement: the entry of SynthV, Neutrino, and CeVIO voicebanks have been fuel for an explosion in new music -- a genuine Vocaloid renaissance.

SynthV Teto has been particularly instrumental in all this since her release in April. In mere months, SV Teto has catapulted at least one producer into online superstardom, and an associated reevaluation of UTAU Teto has seen her behind some of the biggest songs this year. Nostalgia was part of the reason 2023 was the Year of Teto, but the SynthV voicebank, which totally maintained Teto's character while shaking off the computer-y crunchiness, is an achievement well worth the fanfare it received. With December's release of SynthV GUMI, are we in for a similar treat in 2024?

心酔 / あすわど feat. 重音テト Standard voca-pop rock, but something about the stuttering drums and a finely tuned Teto is *chef's kiss* more than enough for me.

死んだっぽいぜ / クソ犬 feat. 知声 I'd never heard a Vocaloid producer take on this kind of rock, somewhat reminiscent of pre-Warner Devo and a dead ringer for ZAZEN BOYS at their best. I also never expected to hear a Maki cover of "Lithium," so this producer is my current king of breaking new ground.

アサルト / いおぎりょう feat. 知声 Ryo Iogi's Teto hyperpop from September is one of my favorite tracks of the year, and I've been anxious to hear something new from him. Like the last song on this list, Chis-A's voice lends itself well to a good grungy guitar riff.

かくほ / よかど feat. 足立レイ Like Chis-A, Rei's voice pairs naturally with a certain kind of music... usually the skittery electronic dance-pop kind, so it's refreshing to hear a Coaltar of the Deepers-esque song featuring her.

sh*ellll;gar~ey / あずきねこp feat. カゼヒキβ, 初音ミク Finally, Kazehiki Beta hyperpop!

エビチャーハン! (You’re Telling Me A SHRIMP Fried This Rice?!) / Jamie Paige feat. 初音ミク Jamie Paige is behind just about every English Vocaloid song that I like (sorry Crusher-P, but I'm not an edgy teenager anymore), so I wasn't surprised to love her celebration of the Snow Miku 2024 "Shrimpku" design. And it's always funny to hear Miku say fuck.

ルナシー / 報瀬 feat. 初音ミク, 重音テト There's something so satisfying about hearing a "traditional" vocasynth sing alongside one of the next-gen, realistic-sounding ones. I love getting hit back-to-back with a crunchy melismatic Miku call and Teto soaring smoothly in response, especially paired with an uptempo saxophone riff that makes me want to shout ᴶaᵃaˢₒⁿ ᴰₑʳᵤᵘᵤˡₒᵒₒᵒ.

ドキドキ / tiputica feat. AiSuu I can't find anything about this artist. They have a Twitter account with one post about this song, zero followers or follows, and that's it. If anyone out there has more information on this artist, hit me up.

マジカルメモリー / in the blue shirt feat. 初音ミク in the blue shirt isn't new to Vocaloid, but he's much more known among netlabel followers for his sunny, sample-driven plunderphonic pop. His Miku music follows that feeling.

今日のずんだはみなごろし / ちから feat. ずんだもん,東北ずん子, イタコ, きりたん, 四国めたん, ナクモ I barely know where to start with this one. Like, uh, most people who don't listen to Pentatonix, I'm not particularly fond of a certain brand of a capella music, but when it's done this well, with such a satisfying complexity of harmony and counterpoint, and for Zundamon's birthday of all occasions, how can you not fall in love?

サンタの眠る夜 / ぐーすかぽー feat. 初音ミク The holidays have just wrapped up, and while there's never any shortage of Vocaloid Christmas songs, ones that are actually enjoyable to listen to are few and far between... though I think there's a new market opening for New Years music!

Trajectory / ごーぶす feat. KAITO Hey, it's KAITO's first appearance on here! A chill ballad with a beautiful rnb chord progression.

え？ちょっと待って寒すぎない？ / asanuko feat. 鏡音レン Speaking of rnb, I think I've mentioned on here how much I love Rin for rnb/garage. asanuko's song is funny as hell, and I'm sure I'll be singing it under my breath as the winter chill continues to settle in, but mostly I'm impressed at how good Rin sounds for this kind of music.

夜空の再構成 / ヨハク feat. 初音ミク This style of song/video has been getting popular recently... electric piano, rapid-fire bass, intricate drum programming, synth leads that twist and turn around the melody, and all of the chord/time information you could ever hope for. A little showboating for music nerds, but it's stimulating enough and I do like it.

ボクにあいそうなはこ / MIDy feat. カゼヒキβ Finally, Kazehiki Beta hy-- wait a second.

ずんだ体育大学コール / さたぱんP feat. ずんだもん, 春日部つむぎ, WhiteCUL, 四国めたん, 白上虎太郎, 青山龍星 The Zundamon gods demand a sacrifice of joke songs, so here it is. See if you can count the references in the zunda dances.

＊･ﾟ+｡園にて.ﾟ / ukaihi feat. 初音ミク ukaihi is 3 for 3 on making it onto this list. I'm sure #4 will make it on here, too... if they don't become popular enough for most people to come across their music first!

絵空事未来 / 真島ゆろ feat. 初音ミク Where the ukaihi song seemed to float, this one skips. 真島ゆろ is one of those producers who can change styles from song to song, and this take on a sasakure.uk-gone-lighthearted style is a winner.

ナイトランナー / d0tc0mmie feat. 重音テト Osaka mentioned... d0c0mmie did a great job capturing a feeling with this one. The laid back - but quick - drums bring back memories of running around Namba with friends way too late into the night.

ハイパー. / ikomai feat.Ciちゃんβ My favorite submission from #PVSF2023R -- so obviously the video is great, but the original track from ikomai blew me away. I think my taste in music is easily read from my blog posts, and this kind of song is nothing out of the ordinary for me, but the Jacob Collier style turnaround at 0:58 knocked me out.

My experience with becoming a Vtuber for a bit, and some of the programs I've used to do it

I decided to write this as I found it's actually kind of surprising how easily accessible creating simple Vtubing actually is. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since Vtubers are all the rage currently and how big the community is, but a curious browse at the current tools available kind of made me try out some of them myself for fun and while I still don't have an actual Vtubing "persona" (besides being an animated Slippy Toad avatar ripped from Star Fox Zero) it's certainly a lot of fun to mess around with.

Initially I assumed there was quite a high barrier of entry; the most popular, mainstream vtubers use Live2D or full 3D models. If you're unwilling or unable to make one yourself, these are actually pretty expensive to produce, with artists charging several hundreds of dollars for designing a Live2D rig. Looking at some of them it's not hard to see why; they're often immaculately designed, with moving mouths, eyes, hair, clothing and limbs all created as their own assets and rigged in Live2D (a program far beyond my primative comprehension and understanding) to create an avatar that really does look like one of my Japanese animes come to life.

It doesn't even end with getting an avatar of your own, though. For the tracking to work you'll need a webcam, or at least a decent smartphone to use as a camera. Want your avatar to use animations or emote presets? You'll probably want one of them fancy Streamdecks unless you want to assign hotkeys to your keyboard like a peasant. Not to mention you'll need a good PC as a baseline to stream modern games and for it to run well whilst doing it.

This is why I was actually surprised how easy it is to create simple crude vtuber avatars (or at least things that resemble it) which makes it much less daunting to try out, especially if you're not someone who streams regularly and aren't trying to become a "professional" streamer. In particular many streamers, refered to often as 'pngtubers' use simple images with basic animations as their avatar rather than fully rigged models which, while very basic, is still surprisingly versatile. I will list some of the ones I've encountered and used in order of ease of use and technicallity. Who knows, maybe some of you might find these useful and inspire yourself to try making your own virtual persona for fun!

OBS Image Reaction

By far the easiest, most basic form of creating an animated avatar of yourself. This is a simple OBS plugin that simply displays one image whilst detecting mic input and another image when it detects no mic input. It's what I use for my Slippy Toad avatar and works perfectly fine for what it is. As it's a plugin built directly into OBS it requires no additional software, just load it up on your overlay and enjoy!

veadotube mini

A simple, lightweight program that performs a similar function to OBS Image Reaction, but with additional features including basic animations to make your avatar slightly more dynamic, including blinking and animating the png or image around during different states. It also supports different "states", so you can create variations of your avatar (for example, for different facial expressions) and assign them to hotkeys to spice things up a bit more.

HONK

Increasing with complexity, HONK allows you to animate your pngtuber avatar further with lip syncing. By drawing the avatar with more mouth shapes and assigning them to the lip sounds it'll react more convincingly to your voice. Like veadotube, it also allows for states for different emotions and whatever, and it also can animate the avatar slightly by adding bounce or rotation to the talking to make it seem more dynamic. Not only this, it supports mouse tracking for the eyes too. It does cost money to purchase and use, but I think the price is quite reasonable.

These programs are fine for pngtubers, but what about if you want a 3D avatar? What about if you, like me, have no knowledge of 3D modelling, and the only Blender you've used is the kind that turns fruit into delicious smoothies? No need to worry, because there's a program designed specifically to create cute 3D anime girls (and boys).

VRoid

Created by Pixiv, Vroid allows you to create an anime avatar in a similar vein to something like The Sims. It's simple to use yet also very versatile, and though you can cobble together something basic with the premade assets and settings, once you learn a bit more on how it works you can create your own clothings, hair style and and other things to create something very personalised. The main limitation with the program, however, is that it's catered to creating pretty anime characters. If you wanted something else that doesn't fit into that stereotype, you might have mixed results. Vroid creates 'VRM avatars' that can actually be imported and used in a variety of other apps and programs, including (with some conversion and work) fully functional VRChat avatars. For the purposes of vtubing, though, there's a couple of programs I tried out.

VMagicMirror

This is a program that projects your VRM avatar onto the desktop, and animates it automatically using your microphone and keyboard/controller input. The program does have some webcam functionality for head tracking, but it's not required. It can even animate your VRM avatar using a keyboard, game controller, pen tablet and even a fight stick, and will have your avatar mimic your button inputs onscreen, which is very fun.

LIV

This isn't really for vtubing on a budget as this is for VR streaming, and VR headsets are pretty pricy, but I'll still include it for it's ease of use. It allows you to project your avatar directly into the game itself, with it working for quite a few VR games. It was originally designed for 'mixed reality' streaming where you can use a webcam to record yourself in front of a green screen and superimpose yourself into the game, but also supports the use of 3D avatars. This is mainly for if you want to stream a VR game but want your audience to see a 3rd person view point rather than making them motion sick by seeing what you're seeing. There's a number of avatars you can create and use for this program, but I mainly included it as it fully supports VRM avatars.

This is by no means a comprehensive list; this is simply what I discovered in my limited exploration while I was, as was put by someone on my stream once, V-curious. If you're willing to use a webcam it's also worth looking into things like Facerig, VNyan and VeeSeeFace. I know Vtubing has been around for a while so I'm probably way behind on the curve, but if you too are V-curious I hope this little article was useful.

     “YOUR Highness.”

     As soon as Kei set foot in his palace, Chise immediately greeted him. He looked at the bowed pink-haired girl seriously. “I assume the princess consort has regained consciousness? How is she?”

     “Yes, that is right, Your Highness. The doctor said her body is still weak, but the effects of the poison had completely disappeared. My lady is also wishing to see you.”

     Kei immediately walked towards your bedchamber while Jae and Chise followed him. He also disarmed his weapon, long coat, and jacket, leaving only his black shirt and pants. When the two guards he had appointed opened your bedroom door, Kei saw how you were just sitting on your bed, staring blankly at the thick blanket that covered your legs.

     "Can���t sleep?"

     As soon as you heard his voice, you lifted your eyes and they seemed to sparkle more than a few seconds before. “Kei!” you called for him.

     "What should we do so the pretty princess will go to sleep?"

     Kei probably smiled and was sugar-coating his sentence very sweetly. But in his eyes, you could see a storm raging. You wanted to calm him down. A soft smile touched on your lips. "I just woke up this sunset, how could I go back to sleep?" you laughed softly.

     The red panda incarnation sat on the empty space of your bed. "Chise said you wanted to see me." Somehow, his voice was more of a whisper, as if he was being careful not to make his voice overstimulate you and tire you out even more. "I'm here now."

     You paused for a moment before saying, “Can you stay here and sleep with me until the morning? I will have a heart attack if I don't see you when I wake up and think they've done it to you again,” you requested, confessing your fear towards Kei's siblings and father.

     "Alright, then." After removing his shoes, Kei lifted his feet onto the bed and leaned against the headboard. He pulled up the blanket you were using to cover his feet. "Is it okay now?"

     You giggled, "Yes." Finally able to calm your nerves, you dropped your head on the pillow and pulled the covers up a little higher. You squirmed for a bit just to find the perfect, comfortable position for sleeping.

     Seeing your smile, Kei also beamed a gentle smile. “You look so happy. What's so good about it?” Her rhodolite eyes stared down at you.

     "I'm so glad that you're here now. I couldn't rest easy after waking up knowing you were still out, hunting the person who put poison in your glass,” you explained.

     Kai was silent for a moment. He thought about the progress of the search he had previously done with Jae. The result was not much, but not zero either. Both Kei and Jae discovered that the culprit was someone from the second prince’s palace, one of Kei's older brothers who hates him very much. Unfortunately, the culprit managed to escape and was under the protection of his master, so it wasn't easy for Kei to kill the maid.

     Seeing his suddenly intense and bitter expression, you grabbed his hand. “Kei,” you called his name.

     Your call succeeded in bringing him out of his reverie. Kei raised his hand and caressed your hair. You looked at him worriedly, but were silence. In the end, you only leaned closer to his touch.

     “Kei, weren't you scared?” you suddenly asked. “I was really scared. I don't think I can forget about it."

     "If you were scared, why did you do that, then?" Instead of answering your question, Kei asked you back.

     You paused for a moment, hiding half of your face under the covers. "I was really scared, but imagining your death made me more scared," you honestly said.

     "And that’s also my reason," Kei leaned down a bit. "I was scared, not upon my death, but yours."

     He lifted his hand from your head and held your hand tightly. He still couldn't stop thinking. He openly told his brothers that he was not interested in the crown or the throne. Why couldn't his brothers just leave him alone?

     The pink haired prince looked at you. Looks like you haven't been able to fall asleep. You were still wide awake and stared blankly to the side. Kei guessed you were imagining something—possibly what happened that day.

     “Dear,” Kei called you, making you raised your gaze to him. Kei smiled sweetly and reassuringly, as if no more danger would come to you. “Go to sleep. I won't let go of your hands," he whispered.

     "You won't?"

     "I won't, I promise." Kei could still see the worry on your face. He lifted your hand and kissed the back of it. "We're safe now. I'm here, and you're here. Everything will be fine. I won't let any harm touch you again."

     At this point Kei didn’t know if he's comforting you or himself. However, when he saw you starting to relax and falling asleep, Kei breathed a sigh of relief. But shadows from the past suddenly came to him.

     “You have to be strong, Your Highness. Never show them your weaknesses.”

     “The king’s last concubine comes from a lowly family.”

     “He might say that he has no interest in the royal throne, but be careful. He could have stabbed you in the back.”

     His old nanny, the nobles, and his own brothers' words in the past suddenly pained his heart and mind. Kei's free hand grabbed her his tightly, hoping that the sudden headache would dissipate a bit.

     "You don't have to love me, Kei. I will always be on your side, so the royalty won't be that harsh on you anymore."

     That's what you said the first night your parents sold you to the king to marry Kei. Why did you accept the marriage? He still wonders to this day. You must have known what dangers awaited you when you married the youngest prince like him. Yet you still accept the marriage. You and Kei should both know that marriage without love is a nightmare.

     “Kei, my sweet child.”

     A motherly voice that he missed so much suddenly ringed from the corner of his memories. Kei was still massaging his throbbing temples, but he was too tired to fight the hallucinatory voice that echoed in his mind.

     "You have to be strong, my child... to survive and be happy someday."

     He remembered that voice. It was his mother's voice—weak, but warm. The memories in his mind projected an image of the past where he saw his mother lying weakly on the bed. He held his mother's hand tightly, realizing the life that had been loose from his body.

     “My Kei must be happy, no matter what. Your future will certainly be difficult, but I promise you, you'll be just fine. Don't be weak or afraid, my brave son."

     Kei saw her mother's faint gaze shift to the woman standing behind her. Even between life and death, his mother could still smile very warmly.

     “[Y/N] is a good girl. I believe you can trust her, Kei. She will bring you down. Take good care of her, okay? Have some faith in her whenever you feel tired. I don't know, but I have a feeling he will also make you happy in the middle of this hell."

     At first Kei didn't believe it. All because he never trusted anyone in his life. But how could she possibly deny a mother's instinct, moreover she was the only woman he trusted the most in this world at that time.

     “Kei…”

     “Kei is here, mother.”

     “You’re a good child,” she smiled kindly yet painfully. “I like the fact that you are my son.”

     “Me too… Kei likes the fact that you are my mother…”

     Kei could feel the touch of a shadow on his cheek, a warmth that had long disappeared but he could still faintly feel. When the hand cupping his cheek fell to her mother's side and her rhodolite-like eyes closed forever, the world would end for her.

     He could still remember how his face didn't show any expression, but his heart was screaming and screaming uncontrollably. His mouth might say, “Spread the words that one of the King's mistresses has passed away.”

     But inside…

     “Please don’t go, mother! I beg you! Don’t leave me alone! Please don’t leave me in this world where no one is on my side! Please don’t leave me among the beasts who are waiting for my weak moment to kill me! Please, mother!”

     The turmoil of anger, fear, and hatred for the royal family mixed into one. Unfortunately, at that time he could not shed tears at all. Kei refused to act weak in the face of many people who want to kill him.

     "I must become stronger." It was one of the decisions he made after his mother's death. Kei was dedicated to being strong like what her mother told her to be and survive. He decided never to depend on anyone. The belief he buried completely with the body of his mother.

     However…

     “I told you already, Kei! I won't let you die! The royal family won't harm you, I promise.”

     Your dedication to protect him was as strong as his to survive. For him, you were too naive. You were so stupid to believe that. Although, Kei realized that he was the stupid one. Gradually, all the harsh remarks in his heart came out not because he hated your positivity, but because he was afraid of losing you too—he was so afraid of losing that bright smile on your face.

     "It feels like she's completely on my side." Kei once told his personal guard, Jae, about you, about what his heart felt.

     Kei remembered how Jae smiled at him at that time. “Then what your mother said was right, Your Highness. You could trust her. She will never bring you down, so you could have some faith in her. It could be true that she will be the key to your happiness.”

     Several years later, all of that became a reality. Even in the middle of this endless hell, Kei can still smile thanks to you.

     All the flashbacks in his mind came to an end. He managed to get out of his reverie and realized again that he was still in your room and stay silent on your bed. He also noticed how you were so relaxed and fast asleep by his side, his hand still holding yours.

     His beautiful yet teary rhodolite eyes gazed lovingly at your sleeping form. But without him realizing it, tears started to fall down his cheeks. An overwhelming feelings dissipated from his heart. A burden that he had held in his heart for years suddenly overflowed.

     Kei looked away, unable to see your face. His free hand pressed hard against his mouth, muffling the sound of his own sobs so that they wouldn't be heard by you or anyone else. He looked down and seemed to be hastily wiping his own tears.

     As he looking down, when he had started to calm down, Kei looked at you who was fast asleep once again. A relieved and calm smile touched on his lips, even with the tears that had not completely stopped yet.

     “Ah, look at your weak face,” Kei whispered, almost choking on his own tears. "There's no other way, I must protect you."

     The real world hasn’t changed since yesterday, but one thing Kei understands is that everything will be fine. He just needs to put an unbeatable optimism.

     Under his faint conscious, Kei could draw a beautiful, normal life with you. You with him, hand in hand, walking together and laughing about every small thing in life.

     His tears would fall into the sheet of your bed and no one would find out. Because right after that, Kei laid himself down beside you and let his mind to rest.

     With your hand that he still held, slowly sleepiness began to hit him. His rhodolite eyes grew dim with exhaustion from crying and slowly, he started to close them.

     Before he actually went to the dreamland, Kei muttered to himself. “Oh, I've never fallen asleep so easily before. I guess crying isn't so bad…?” He also realized that with you, he doesn't need to pretend to be strong.

     For the first time in a very long time, Kei was finally able to sleep peacefully and soundly, with no worries about who would come to her room to take her life. -----[FIN].

A part of me wants to make some sort of Vtuber avatar for my OC, but I have no idea where to start, and there's also a deep fear that everyone would just hate it and think it gets in the way.

Given the limited equipment I have, I'd be fine starting with a PNG model, but once again, I'm not really sure where to start with commissions or rigging. The latter I might be able to do myself (I'm better with that skill set than actual digital art, and the same goes for editing).

But most of social media right now being filled to the brim with fake/spam offers, untrustworthy and unknown commissioners, and very few (zero) artists willing to do a slightly anthropomorphic model at all, makes the process infinitely harder.

Skylanders = Especially with the Swap Force & the Dragons!!! One of the major fandoms I’ve been in since late elementary school, so it’s technically a childhood classic! I actually have Swap Force (only the starter pack ;w;) and Imaginators (along with the Boom Bloom pack & Crash Bandicoot pack) in my home that I play with my little sibling!! I also played Giants at a neighbour-friends house too!! Also one of the two fandoms I did for the inktober (most of it)!!

Twisted Wonderland = A mobile game I found since late 2020!!! Back when only the first 5 chapters were out in the JP server and part of the watching/reading translations! Preordered the EN game as soon as it’s announced too!! Right now I miss my dailies cause work and player burnout ;w; (I also need to catch up the story from the second part of Boom 6; Generally prefer the fan translations more since I’m more used due to being a watching a lot back before EN server was announced)

Dr. Stone = Major fan of the anime and picked up some of the manga and the later chapters at the local library I live nearby! I still need to catch up first and second half with Season 3!! In my words, a fun and (mostly accurate) educational sci-fi anime!! Reminds me of some of the edutainment kids shows I watched as a kid!!

Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle = One of the few animes I was interested from the clips I saw during quarantine! During late July of this year, I had even motivation and time to watch the whole anime!!! A really comfy and lighthearted comedy I recommend! Also read a few manga I spotted at the library and discovered that she has other outfit jobs/classes in between chapters (Plus Princess’s design and outfits is S-tier!!!)

Monster High = Another childhood classic of mine (as I watched a lot of the episodes and movies on YouTube)! While I’m mainly a fan of Gen 1 since it was apart of my childhood, I’m open and happy seeing the other generations on my feed! :D

Ever After High = Another childhood classic!! Been around since the beginning I believe!! Really loved the aesthetic, clothes, characters and story in this one! I’m apart of the Rebels!

Holidays and early evenings are not kind to my mind. So I’m just. Doing whatever. Doing whatever helped me accomplish one thing today though, so that’s nice.

To Art Stream or Not To Art Stream, and other musings??

Lately, I don't know why I have this urge in the back of my head where I would like to look into bringing back into art streaming. It had always been to be able to do that back in 2015 lol where you can take a break from what you're working on and talk/chat with others about art, the process of making art, share tips and tricks, and/or get some feedback when you're stuck on something. I kind of miss that aspect of art making that I had when i was attending art school...making art in a bubble is...tragically, lonesome.

Kind of want to go back into it...but I'm also hesitant. Not sure what it is, but it seems like wanting to art stream is kind of like a whole new thing since VTubers became a thing? Or there's a need for you to make it like some kind of entertainment and you have to become an entertainer to keep your audience engaged and invested lol Obviously, this is kind of trivial if you just want to stream how you want to stream...So, I began looking into it...and oh boy...My laptop was like "please don't, I'm old and on my last leg...don't speed up my death...!" XDDDD I must also add, things for streaming in the last few years have progressed like CRAZY! Not to mention their price tags being an awfully hefty one. Kind of both overwhleming and discouraging. Well, I'm still tethering and on the fence about it, so I guess I won't be doing anything until I make a concrete decision. So many things to consider.

BUT! As of late, with that thought in mind, I kept thinking about making a new OC (of sorts) who will be the avatar of this (potential) art stream thing lol And...it's been kind of fun! Also found out that there's a challenge for this month called "OC-tober", kind of nice that it's...indirectly?? related lol 

So I thought, why not write a blog post about it! So...here we are, me babbling about stuff. Have fun reading my...musings...?

I sketched this environment piece and asked some questions like "What kind of person/creature would live in a place like this?" Drew a blank until the thought of flying fish or a dragon came to mind. I always liked flying fish...and had also wanted to make a flying fish OC. And off I went with my usual kick~ "Tis time to make a yokai-flying-fish OC!"

Things are always easier said then done. I had zero ideas for a couple of days lol But on a good day, while I was watching some anime and looking at flying fish photos on google...the thought of "It would be really funny if this character's face looks like a fish's face." XDDDD So that got the ball rolling at least. Maybe more things will come if I doodle their face...And one thing led to another, we arrived got a concept (albeit at like 11PM before I should be heading off to bed...). A silly fellow without a single clue, but their face is both funny and cute. I really like the little "mochi" eyebrows and that 'w' shaped mouth lol If all else fails, I can have a cat or bunny OC XDDDD Always good to have a backup plan. ("First thing I learned from Batman" - Dick Grayson lol)

After finishing this doodle and sleeping on it, I gave it some more thought...and arrived here with ANOTHER 11PM drawings lol Wonder what other things will be coming out of this from my 11PM sessions...but at the moment, This clueless fellow is starting to take up some shape. Those mochi eyebrows are so cute lol I'm going to be having fun with these fish scales XDDDDD

Not too sure where this is going to take me, but it's kind of fun just...going with the flow. I'll have to see what happens haha Now that they have some shape, comes the next major hurdle...What to name this clueless fellow??

genuine question: how does one separate your internet self from your real life self? ive struggled with making online personas andve only got my pronouns down, but i guess my real question is how do ppl.. inhabit them? become them? (..is that the right word?)

im not a gamer so i dont rly have much experience being known via avatar, and now this new tech of everyone being their own vtuber characters is a little... uncomfortable (?) for me bc it feels more.. out there? with my voice and only this talking sprite separating me and some strangers? i do like the idea but ig my anxiety is still tied to being 'seen', im not out irl and being 'visibly' trans still feels like im lying to myself and to everyone, hence the weird feelings of personas in general

i feel like if i were also a furry this wouldnt b such a problem lol (fursonas r gr8! wish i could know how to b one) tldr how do i adopt (?) being a digital person when all i can see is me as myself, i want to be silly online and not care so much too :(
