im really glad! i feel like i come off as a bit of a jerk but i can only hear about the same white writers so many times before im like for a dollar... you know the rest. i don’t know if they’re my faves but i’ll try to make a short list of books i really enjoyed in the last couple of years!

the woman warrior by maxine hong kingston. a collection of half fantasy half “real” stories of chinese-american women

green grass, running water by thomas king. native american author that is incredibly funny and dry and mixes oral storytelling with written literary conventions

white teeth by zadie smith. very on the tumblr user 1johnny teeth brand. one of the best contemporary author’s i’ve read!!

the scarlet letter by nathaniel hawthorne. token favourite old white man. like i said i just love gothic literature and when it takes place in puritan america it’s extra... ambiguous. we LOVE the horror of religious guilt

bread givers by anzia yezierska. read this for one of my courses. story of a young jewish-american girl growing up in east nyc. its a very easygoing read because most of the novel is written from the perspective of a young girl so if you find yourself struggling with reading for long stretches of time i really recommend this. many of her works include lesbian characters! not bread givers but there’s still a lot to read between the lines about femininity and sexuality

anything by james baldwin. just an incredible man all round. barry jenkins’ if beal street could talk is based on baldwin’s novel of the same name. if you loved moonlight you’ll also appreciate that novel/film. his works often explore both the confines and the beauty of black masculinity and sexuality

Okay, it’s really simple! You sign up first of all. Then, once the sign up date is closed, I’ll go through and assign everyone a person. You’ll get sent the information for your person, their URL, likes/dislikes, etc and on Christmas, you can post your gift and reveal yourself to them. Though, the person you have will not have you, so you won’t know who your person is until Christmas. Your task is to create something for your person by Christmas.

Part 3 of Exposed flopped, which is fine and all, but I'm just curious what y'all did or didn't like about this part of the series.

All I can think of is that this part didn't really further the plot that much so maybe that's why it wasn't that popular? Just interested to hear what y'all think :)
