i didnt expect to get so emotional about mitch achieving the 18 game point streak but my GOD - his HUGE incandescent relieved smile and head shake at the end. the way the ENTIRE TEAM was trying so so so so SO hard to get mitch that point. the way Auston was happier than when HE SCORED 60 GOALS for mitch.

mitch getting a standing ovation from the fans in their HOME ARENA. the home of the toronto maple leafs. the only team mitch has ever known and loved since he was a chubby-cheeked blonde baby with a bowl cut. the team and its fans that mitch loves SO MUCH. 

a history-breaking record streak achieved by a generational player who's gotten so much unwarranted hatred and scrutiny from his childhood team since he got drafted and first donned that maple leafs jersey over his scrawny frame. 

a standing ovation and an ARENA FULL OF LOVE. LOVE. given to a boy who just wants love, who scribbles a smiley face and the initial of his dog onto every pair of hockey gloves he wears as a reminder that hockey is fun, and that there’s someone out there who loves him unconditionally. 

i hope he feels proud. i hope he feels like he’s part of the history of this team forever. but most importantly, i hope he feels loved tonight <3

birthdays...can be very difficult and upsetting sometimes. which is super unfortunate because they are supposed to be wonderful, but i also feel like an unnecessary amount of stress/expectation is amassed around the concept of being born, which, to be honest, is miraculous enough to be celebrated everyday!

like honestly? normalize making your birthday any day you want and constantly and consistently celebrating your existence! for example, raven hates his birthday, but does throw a major rager faux bday on halloween every year, so fuck it! we ball! Every Day Is Ur Day, Darling!
