i think more people should make ninjago OCs that are just. Some Guy.
i have an OC (kaspar) and they’re just a shopowner in the crossroads who sells their art!!
civilian OCs are extremely fun to play around with! make them be in the middle of all the wacky stuff going on, maybe make them get dragged right into the scenario without a clue as to what’s going on, etc. etc.

worth bringing up as sort of a corollary to my severance thoughts is that severance does an excellent job of showing that different forms of power & control (cult/corporation/family/government) tend to bleed and overlap and propagate in similar forms. in that particular vein, speaking as a cult survivor, it's worth saying specifically that it doesn't do much good to exceptionalize cults as a rare oddity of how societal power can sometimes take shape. lumon, though fictional, is a really good example of how those mechanisms of control exist in many forms throughout society and should be broken down and scrutinized when they do appear.
#narrates#severance#smth i fear a bit with this show actually is how the cult stuff might be received as sensational or wacky tbh...#it is wacky (cults frequently are) but there's a bigger point being made about how a lot of things are Like Cults lol#how do i put it. severance is not a show About Cults. it super is not.#it is instead About Control (esp thought/behavioral control) and so dips into cult territory as a natural result#of showing a big mass of different controlling entities mixed up into lumon#but in that way makes a much much much more important and useful statement about cults than many shows About Cults ever do!#a lotttt of my critiques actually with a ton of cult depictions do have to do with sensationalization and casting cults as unique#(and implicitly casting wider society as freer or more enlightened)#so it's nice to like. see something that is v v v frank about how this shit actually functions and is not unique

Did a good old fashioned magical girl generator prompt again
#i did the first one and then the second prompt sounded like it could go with the first based on what i already drew#also please excuse the boring skin tones i dont have all my art supplies unpacked yet#and among my highlighter marker things i was using there is one (1) peach tone#i wasnt brave enough to use anything wacky lol#carliedraws#traditional#sketchbook#magical girl#perchance generator#original#nameless characters#I skipped the leather choker in the second one because this generator Always does chokers lol#s/o to a big hair bow and a big hair bow#i almost did pigtails for that but nah i wanted long braid#coulda maybe gone longer for some more visual interest since there was no cape but ah well#also didnt fit in any embroidery like design 1 had because it felt like it would be distracting#i like how they have different stuff going on though#like the first one is a little red riding hood shrine maiden#and the second is a gymnast ring leader#but theyre both rocking the kimono sleeves and bows and heels#i missed generator prompts theyre fun

Got into Witch Hat Atelier last year sometime and yesterday finally got around to drawing Qifrey. And we've got some pictures of Coco too :D
(I'd forgotten my pencil so this was just inked straight without sketching first which is not what I typically do, but I don't think it went tooooooo badly...)
My favourite is definitely the top right one of Qifrey. I was using the manga for reference (hanging out at the public library with a friend so there were books right there), and I really like how it turned out tbh.
