I find the "lesser evil" argument for voting for Biden insidious, because it leads to an obvious slippery slope.

If you're willing to vote for the candidate that's 1% less Hitler than the opposition, would you be willing to vote for someone who's 0.1% less Hitler? How about a difference of 0.01%?

You've said that we must vote for Biden even though he's supporting the Palestinian genocide, because stopping Republicans from hurting American queer people is more important; who else are you willing to throw under the bus to keep Republicans out of office?

How much evil are you willing to accept, because it's strictly "lesser"?

(This is its own post because I don't much want to pick a fight with anyone, and frankly I'll probably surrender to the cold utilitarianism next November myself. I'm just kvetching.)

Hot take: When people on the right/center hate on communism because it would lead to poverty and privation, they are not making a principled stand against poverty, they are objecting on the grounds that it would lead to poverty for them personally. They are OK with other people living in crappy apartments, or even with people being homeless, but they object to the idea that they would have to live in crappy apartments.

Likewise, they are OK with the existence of elites within society, but they object to the idea of Party leadership because the Party is the wrong elites, and because they would not be among those elites.

They do not object to any of the ways communism would be unjust, or to the ways capitalism is unjust, they only object to the idea that they would suffer that injustice.

Had a very Boston experience. So, I was heading home and there was a celebration in downtown and a bunch of guys were sitting on an electrical box on the sidewalk drinking Stella Artois in full Red Sox gear.

One of them decided to get my attention and yelled at me when I was passing them walking to the T, “ Hey tranny!” Had the immediate thought of, “Oh, I’m going to get the shit kicked out of me and/or further harassed for being a trans woman by some random townies.” They then proceeded to offer me a beer.

I have no idea why and they didn’t offer one to anyone else, so???? Like, were you trying to be allies…???? Was I being fucked with in some way??? I have no idea. It was absolutely surreal. Why is this my life? Who the fuck drinks Stella Artois on the sidewalk?? Anyways said I was good and just kept going without anything else happening except random commuters staring at me but wtf?
