Scorpia: What are you not?
Perfuma: *mumbling*
Scorpia: WHAT. ARE. YOU. NOT?
Perfuma: *sighs* I am not a licensed therapist.
Scorpia: And?
Perfuma: I shouldn't offer to act as one for my friends, and won't do so in the future.
Scorpia: Thank you. We'll circle back to how this led to you and Catra blowing up Shadow Weaver's statue in the Hall of Sorcerers after I've paid your bail.

Chapter 7 “In the Shadows of Despara of She-Ra: Missing is out!
- -
Deep at night in Bright Moon, two moons hung in the sky casting soft light over the landscape.
“Catra.”
“Catra, please, I’m sorry.”
Catra tossed and turned in her sleep as Adora’s voice filled her dreams.
“Catra, please, just come back.” A red light began to fill her vision.
The feline bolted up with a gasp. Her fur stood on end as she looked around the room. Carefully, she left the bed and pulled herself out through the window and walked to the edge of the woods, where she stared out until morning came.

I don’t know if I’m the only one, but the primal magic and dark magic in The Dragon Prince reminds me of the sorcerors’ magic in the SheRa reboot.
Both primal mages and Mystacor sorcerors draw/trace runes in the air to cast spells.
And if they use dark magic, they are tainted by it — eg. in The Dragon Prince Sol Regem senses it in Callum in S3 ep1, and Glimmer and Micah’s spells glow pink/purple instead of the usual blue because they (briefly) used dark magic through association with Shadow Weaver.

it says a lot about adora that in one breath she can say "it's never gonna work on me again" referring to shadow weavers manipulation and in the Very Next Sentence she all but parrots her words exactly ("im sorry, its my fault she was here I endangered mystacor"). It perfectly demonstrates how while adora is actually not that bad at recognising the damage that shadow weaver did, she is fucking terrible at actually addressing it. She assumes that the big dramatic moment is the easy (and only) fix that she needs and then keeps falling into the same old patterns in this essay i will-

The question is, I suppose, would Adora use her She Ra powers to heal those scars or not? I don't have an answer. Nate Stevenson did post that one piece of art where Adora still had them, but I took that to be the night after the victory over Horde Prime... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

“Healing”
My piece for the @sherafluffbang project! I was partnered with @nozomijoestar, who asked for “Something with Catradora and Healing.” I’d already been noodling around with an idea of Adora and Catra at the baths in Mystacor, and it became this. Hope you like it!

TIME FOR MORE SHE-RA
s1 ep7 let's do this
note: it's 9:14pm let's see how long a single episode takes me ahaha
Y'know, I was going to make a joke about how this is so my aesthetic it's painful, but interestingly enough the colors shifted wildly between my screenshot and adding it to the post. Have they been doing this the whole time and I hadn't noticed??? In Netflix it looks far closer to periwinkle??? fascinating
It's always been a little odd to me that nobody carries ANYTHING (other than magical swords I guess) in this show. And I get why (too much of a pain to animate) but it does mean they have to just sleep on the ground without a blanket or pillow or anything.
Meanwhile I can't even leave my house without at least a messenger bag
I ALWAYS WONDER THIS
okay so I forgot about Mystacor being the place all the sorcerers hang out and it's also mystical vacation land
SIDE NOTE a small thing that frustrates me is how little the animators agree on Glimmer's body size/shape. She's intended to be chubby (and not in an hourglass-y way) but it feels like a lot of the animators just refused to do it. There's a lot of scenes where she looks closer to my size, and I wear a small/medium in American clothes. Harrumph.
I was just about to make a joke about how Adora is gonna struggle to relax
Like gooey stuff in Miyazaki/Ghibli movies, but with a much lower budget
I can't find a gif but you know what I mean
Listen. I know I'm literally here for the gay. I know the show was made by people familiar with fandom, who put all that subtext in there on purpose and knew we'd read into it. But I still did a little kicky-feet wiggle thing when Catra's eyes widened at the mention of Adora's name.
TBH I think this is actually why I keep falling for animated media. You always know that whatever is on the screen was done on purpose.
Like, this shot from Arcane:
This is right after Vi sees Caitlyn visibly flirting with another woman; earlier Vi had asked Caitlyn "men or women?" and Caitlyn had wiggled out of the question.
So Vi's face here does an "Ah, so women it is then. NICE. Shit, I might have a chance." in like, a second and a half.
And it was all very intentional!! The people at Fortiche animation have SAID this. We're supposed to read it that way!!
I dunno. Maybe I'm still just traumatized from my time in the BBC Sherlock fandom. Are we supposed to read it as romantic or not? Because so many shots seemed full of intentional subtext (and I'm not even getting into TJLC shit, just stuff we ALL NOTICED after THE FIRST SEASON, even fucking normies noticed it) and then the showrunners spent the next few years telling us we were just imagining it.
Whereas if Caitlyn looks at Vi's lips before looking back up at her eyes, and we read into that, it's because we were supposed to. If Catra looks worried about Adora after Shadow Weaver mentions her, that's on purpose.
UGH.
Anyway.
Catra (trying to sound bored): sooooo gotta go find Adora again, got it Shadow Weaver: Nuh-uh. You get to just stand outside as guard, because you're a worthless piece of shit. [Unspoken: And also so Hordak doesn't know I'm disobeying him. :) ] Shadow Weaver: *creates a ginormous monster* Catra: yikes Shadow Weaver: GTFO OR GET HIT
Glimmer keeps trying to get out things like the tour and the eclipse ceremony and it's like your Auntie is right GIRL YOU CAN PUT UP WITH IT FOR ONCE it's all new to Adora c'mon
sorry I just get excited when they make places look a bit like medieval cathedrals
Side note did you know that, at least in England that I'm aware of, none of those medieval cathedrals have foundations. None. None of them. There's one in England that's built over a GRAVEL FILLED LAKE and if the water level gets too low the place is just gonna collapse. (They have fancy water gauges and plans for diverting water if necessary.) Anyway that's part of why so many of them charge admission for non-religious stuff. Keeping those 800-year-old super tall stone and glass buildings with NO FOUNDATIONS standing up is hella expensive. D:
Here's the twitter thread where I learned some of this information, btw
NOPE.
Anyway this is why part of the plot of my fic is related to how Adora and Catra have never had a healthy model for any kind of relationship, family or otherwise.
Oh I forgot Shadow Weaver's previous name. Anyway I still think her and Castaspella were together at some point
Adora's expression here ahahaha
Adora has ADHD but I already said that lol, and yeah I love the beach and I still need something to *do* even if it's just endlessly walking back and forth
also how does a floating island have a beach? anyway (edit: they're clouds that SOUND like water)
Yes this moment gets ruined immediately but I love it when they throw a bone to other ships, okay
YES???? DUH
also I get that they did the top on Bow so they didn't have to draw nipples and make him the only one that's topless but also we can imagine it's covering top surgery scars, trans!Bow headcanons are always winning
"So, mom stuff?" "No, commanding officer stuff. ...And mom stuff."
'cause yeah that's not awful or anything
but also now I'm imagining Shadow Weaver trying to explain periods
AAHGHHG Bow is the best. "sounds like she did a number on you. But you're away from her now. Did you want to do something else? Maybe find something to hit??" he's trying so hard to be supportive
The fact that Shadow Weaver knows how to make that monster have Catra's voice, and that she knew that was Adora's weak spot...
And this is in Hordak's, saying basically "the entire rebellion will end up dead and it'll be your fault :)"
Shadow Weaver knows exactly how to psychologically torture Adora.
Okay so Castaspella says She-Ra destroyed "a thousand years of sacred writings" and I'm just like...okay that implies Etheria has an actual religion??
And yeah that's definitely still Shadow Weaver
Also I watched the screenshot change color as I posted it. Gyahhhh.
A mutual pointed out in her live-tweeting of s5 that you could write an entire essay on the meaning of face-touching in this show. It's the one thing Shadow Weaver ever seems to do to intentionally imply affection/caring, but she only ever does it with manipulative, cruel intent, and there are multiple times I think that both Adora and Catra lean into it (even if only for a second) out of hope/relief.
(something something about baby monkeys clinging to dolls that shock them rather than have no mother at all)
(don't look up that experiment if you don't know what I'm talking about as it's incredibly upsetting, but the gist is that children will seek affection from a parental figure when hurt, even if said parent is the one hurting them, because seeking out a parent/caregiver when hurt is instinctual to infants and children. And if knowing that explains any part of your childhood I am so, so sorry)
Yeah that's straight out of the Standard Abuser's Guidebook
"Nobody cares about you or loves you or understands you the way I do. You're just like me, not them."
More face-touching!!
oh I don't like the implications here at ALL
[EDIT: she wasn't actually going to do that. She just wants Adora under her thumb to control her. it's the kind of bullshit abusers promise the moment they think you might leave. "I'll be better this time!"]
I'm not screen-shotting Adora's little speech of triumph but oh man it's GREAT and cathartic to watch
"Adora, enough of this. Come home." ....didn't Catra use nearly those words exactly
Yeah I'm glad they included that line
Bow: I'm so sorry we didn't believe you :( Adora: No, that's what Shadow Weaver does--manipulates people and pushes them apart
That's some nice awareness
And then yeah we get a moment of Catra scheming.
OKAY it's 10:44pm. Hour and a half! For twenty minutes of TV! But to be fair I did make/eat toast and play with the cat (he walked in and then jumped into the laundry basket, of course I had to parade around the house with him in there).
11:24pm: shit this post has been sitting here for half an hour bc I was actually writing on the fic lolol

Most of the cushions? You better hope your side wins Angella or you're going to put on trial for that.
I am of the belief that Angella is a pure soul
#(although if you do want to overanalyze - casta's reaction def implies mystacore DOES have a real prison)#<- prev#i love that

one thing that really sticks with me about how SPOP mishandles Adora's character is that they pretend they care about Adora's emotional and psychological sacrifices, but really largely focus on her physical sacrifices. and even then, they focus on it in a very specific, unconstructive way.
yes, they make Catra ask Adora what she wants, but it's not for her own health. it's because the writers, and Catra, want Adora to say that she wants her, regardless of how abusive the relationship is.
in terms of Adora's emotional and psychological sacrifices, she's made plenty for the sake of others, but mainly Catra. and that's never questioned or brought up.
there's not a single scene in the show where Glimmer, Bow, or anyone close to her is frustrated that Adora is constantly sacrificing her own mental health by taking the blame for others actions or inactions. it's only vaguely touched upon in the Perfuma introduction episode, but it's nothing intricate or deeper. they just say "oh, you don't have to be perfect all of the time! that'd be obnoxious of you, anyway!" and that's it. and i never liked the message that sends. it always sounded like they were blaming the 'perfect one' for being that way, not the ones who conditioned them so that if they aren't perfect, they're nothing.
yes, Adora stands up for herself against Catra, but, though it's a great moment for her character, it doesn't exactly feel... natural. in my opinion, anyway.
the reason why i say this is because her support group rarely handles Catra themselves when Adora's in danger, call out Catra for her behavior, notice when Catra's words or influence are negatively affecting Adora, etc., etc. her support group does this with Shadow Weaver, but not Catra, and the writers don't make it great even then, i.e, Shadows of Mystacor.
so, while every beatdown of Shadow Weaver does more or less feel 'earned' ( that's not a great way to phrase it, but i can't think of a better word atm ), Adora standing up for herself in s3 feels almost out of focus? like, i know it likely meant she's not responsible for any of Catra's actions, but it felt more like "i'm not responsible for you making the Portal and breaking the world".
because of how limited the focus of 'sacrifice' is in this show, they don't consider how difficult and taxing it is to give everything to a person, not just your physical health and safety.
it's another reason why i got really annoyed when Glimmer brushed off Adora being angry that Catra was ungrateful and spiteful for all of them saving her. not only because Glimmer has seen Catra be... 'nice', but because it just goes to show that the writers don't actually care what Adora has to sacrifice, physical or otherwise.
C//A isn't just abusive because Catra takes advantage of Adora at every turn and Adora has no escape. it's abusive because every single choice Adora has to make for Catra is, essentially, always going to be a sacrifice, whether she knows it or not.

I saw a post here on Tumblr once that went something like "in a world where god, Jesus, and the apostles are all men, that has to do something psychologically to women" and it made me think: The Netflix version of the show "She-Ra Princess of Power" is a show that is HEAVILY women centric. We know maybe three guys in power, King Micah (who, after his return from Beast Island, wasn't *really* in power), the head sorcerer in Mystacor, Hordak/Horde Prime. (please do correct me if I am wrong) The show, albeit about princesses, has the princesses have actual roles. Even the ones that are "weak" or perceived to be weaker than the others (read: Perfuma), are extremely powerful.
The two men whom we consistently meet in the show other than Hordak, Bow and Seahawk, are not the "macho man" in most shows. Seahawk sings an entire shanty as to how lonely he is and how he just wants to be friends with Mermista, and Bow cries and even hugs frequently all the other characters in the show. Both talk about their emotions and work through them in /relatively/ healthy ways (the Dragon's Daughters 1-3 will be sorely missed). My point being, is that the women in the show are shown as strong, beautiful, muscular, fierce, sad, frustrated, loving, traumatized, hurt, laughing, and more. They all have different body shapes/ types of bodies. There are three openly gay couples: Bow's dads, Spinerella and Netossa, and Catra and Adora. Incredible! In a kids show (and adults too lets be real) there are three openly gay couples. No one treats them any different. Bow is one of 13 kids of George and Lance. No one bats an eye. In fact, according to She-Ra Wiki page (https://she-raandtheprincessesofpower.fandom.com/wiki/LGBTQIAP%2B), so many characters are queer. Besides the ones listed above: - Scorpia and Perfuma are romantically involved - Bow is Bisexual - Glimmer is Bisexual - Mermista is Bisexual - Seahawk is Bisexual (dated Falcon) - Falcon is Gay - Lonnie is Poly and Bisexual (dating Rogelio and Kyle) - by extension Rogelio and Kyle are queer - Entrapta is bi - Jewelstar is trans - Peekablue is gender non-conforming - Double Trouble is nonbinary and there is MORE In the show, as there are a ton of non humans, almost any time we meet someone, she/her pronouns are used (see episodes when Best Friend Squad are in the crimson waste). Can't you see how amazing this is? A show where there are no one-dimensional characters, women are constantly having intelligent conversation with one another, women are leaders, women working together, openly queer characters, and a beautiful plot line where there's magic???? When the princesses work together, they turn into the colors of the rainbow and their powers are enhanced. Little girls are getting to see themselves as normal. Women aren't treated as secondary citizens. Hell, almost every Bright Moon guard we see is female. How would the world be different if shows like this were the norm? Where women are able to be magical, and they aren't dressed to show off their bodies? Where women's armor actually protects them? Where they grunt and are sweating after they fight? Where womens' love wins? Why can't this be normal? (Happy Pride!)

My favourite She-Ra post canon headcanons
Mystacor spa vacation for a month after the war
Best auntie Casta makes sweaters for everyone
The other princesses gleefully refuse to let Glimmer off the hook as over-queen (or as Bow like to call it - queen-queen) of all of Etheria. Lots of meetings and paperwork for our favourite queen
Catra is made second-in-command. Glimmer takes petty delight in throwing more and more stupid titles at First-Vizir Expert Logistic Coordinator Catra whenever she annoys her (which is often)
Therapy
Every parental figure in Etheria get together and decide that a) Frosta is their child now and b) Despite her protests, Frosta should go back to school
She-Ra spends most of her time subduing remaining robots and monsters, and working to repair war-damaged villages. She has a much less stressful time now when her friends are not constantly in mortal danger.
Most etherians, being a bit fuzzy on what exactly the deal was between Hordak and Prime, decide that Horde Prime was some kind of upstart that tried to usurp Hordak's rightful throne, and that Hordak cast him down in the end. This annoys Hordak immensely, especially since the other clones do nothing to correct them.
To his great discomfort, a group of clones who have a hard time with the 'free will' concept try to follow Hordak as the new Prime. Entrapta sets up a school for them.
Entrapta nearly dies from sleep deprivation as she tries to reverse engineer Horde Prime's tech. It takes Hordak, Imp, Emily, Wrong Hordak, a whole squadron of clones, the super pal trio, Bow and the entire princess alliance to convince her that she can keep working on it the next day
Entrapta totally runs Doom on Light Hope's old hardware. Fortunatelly Hordak manages to install some safety measures. Adora tears up when she realizes that it still spawns spiders.
Hordak takes up philosophy and has a surprising talent for it. This leads to a slow but steady thaw and eventual bonding between him and Bow's dads.
So Much PDA
(and so much PTSD)
Swift Wind, Bow and Sea Hawk invite Micah, Wrong Hordak and - to his great chagrin - Hordak to their boys night. No one invited Double Trouble but they come along anyway. Much shenanigans are had.
Mermista and Perfuma keeps hitting illegal clubs where they can let lose and forget all about queenship and cosmic harmony for a night. When Glimmer finds out she demands they bring her along
Catra and Hordak keep up a vitriolic but deep friendship. They sometimes go on secret missions together to 'sort out things the princesses don't need to know about'
Bow and Scorpia becomes tea-party buddies.
Double Trouble, Swift Wind and Wrong Hordak set up a 'legitimate business enterprise' which totally isn't a series of more and more convoluted scams

I've always imagined that Adora didn't understand a boys' night out when Sea Hawk, Bow, and Swift Wind would do them so she'd follow along like, "What? Why can't I be at the boys' night?" because gender is not her forte.
Mermista, desperate to have this night away from Sea Hawk knows that if that was allowed to stand her boyfriend ride would immediately try to include her. So she decided to make it a girls' night in.
Glimmer had to BS a reason for why it was important strategically for only the girls to meet and that fell apart instantly when Mermista arrived with nail polish and Perfuma with a facemask. Adora didn't know what those were and was allowed to try, which accidentally created a pattern for what a girls' night in should be to Adora. Now they are locked into a militaristic set of rules for the girls' night in, but oh well.
ok this scene isn't meant to be taken seriously at all but if we do take it seriously it's so funny if the horde doesn't have birthdays, they probably don't have girl's nights out/in so adora must've learned about these after she left all her friends are girls tho except bow and seahawk, so having a girl's night would just mean deliberately excluding those two lol (or just excluding seahawk by default) (and bow is one third of the best friends trio so that's a big exclusion!!!)
so im just imagining bow &/or seahawk crying looking thru a window at EVERYONE ELSE having this girl's night in
#she ra#spop#adora#GIRLS' NIGHT IN#Adora only has painted nails after a girls' night in and it helps her to not chew them to nubs for- like- a week tops#Eventually Glimmer will ask to move the GNI to mystacor so they can also soak while they gossip#I do LOVE the idea of the boys standing outside sadly looking through a window#but I also love the idea of Adora simply following them to the bar b/c she's one of the boys#only to have a gender crisis b/c Horde culture doesn't value gender the same way princess culture does#only to get over it b/c she gets distracted by a shiny new experience- the GNI#When Scorpia starts joining them she brings hot coco
