SPS Stitchalong '23

It is July, and despite the varied nonsense Prism and Fry are drowning in, Prism blacked out in a fit of insomniac creation. Thus, back by popular demand, the SPS Summer Stitchalong ... uh ... finds a way.

Here is our official color palette for this year (DMC 826, 824, 833 or E3852). Grid is once again 40 x 30. We will not try to gently troll like last year. This is straightforward stitches. Two colors (one light/one dark) of your choice and a "gold". You are welcome to challenge yourself with a metallic, but any gold shade is fine. We do believe the metallic will improve the intended effect.

Our first pattern post is WEDNESDAY the 5th! See you then!

I'm behind on the SAL, and I don't have the colors, but I'm doing my best!

I took part in this years mystery SAL from @shitpostsampler and while I was at it I threw in last years one since I'd missed that one. I'm trying to decide if I want to make them into little pillows or make frames for them. It was fun having small quick projects, I used some leftover aida from making a biscornu, the blue one I used leftover floss from my sisters wedding gift and the sin bin I used generic off brand flosses.

2/12 days done of @shitpostsampler 's Stitch-along!

I am very intrigued on what the rest is going to say ^_^ and yes this is a very very small canvas.

I started a couple days late because I wasn't really feeling up to stitching anything, but I'm caught up now! Shitpost Sampler's stitchalong~ I used the blues they suggested, but I had a 728 I'd already started using up, so I'm using that for the gold instead ♥

Doing the mystery stitchalong by @shitpostsampler gave me the confidence to tackle this bigass dragon pattern I got for christmas last year. It's been fun so far!!

Look at this gorgeous stitch of the dark goddess stitchalong by Melissa Van De Wal on carmilla colorway! I cannot get over how much I love this pattern on this wine dark sea of fabric!

I haven’t had the spoons to do much stitching, given.. everything.. but @shitpostsampler​ put together another summer vacation stitch-a-long this year and I figured I could at least manage that!  Then on the last day they also revealed a bonus variation pattern, which I could not resist tweaking!

As is rapidly becoming tradition, both pieces were stitched over one for a quite small result.  #BLESSED was stitched mostly to-pattern on 32ct fabric, with just some couching added when my slightly off-white fabric scrap proved more than willing to swallow the yellow whole.  I’m not entirely sure it’s an improvement, given the scale of things, but it didn’t hurt, so here we are and here we shall stay.

#STRESSED was stitched on a 28ct brown fabric scrap, and was intentionally tweaked to indicate higher stress!  As a retail worker in the US right now, I felt that the purple pattern given was far too soothing to be accurate for me.  A survey of a small cluster of friends (literally “what are the most stressful colors?”) revealed that preferences across the spectrum vary widely, but neon colors and flashing/changing colors were considered stressful by all of them.  With that in mind I dug out the DMC neons and the most garish metallic variegation I own, and set to work!  I did also horizontally flip the border, just for an extra touch of difference.

The primary complication on #STRESSED, honestly, is that it’s virtually impossible to photograph accurately!  The neons amplify whatever color the light is, so they get bluer in daylight and yellow indoors; neither my phone nor my actual camera can quite get them in focus despite my best efforts; and the metallic glitters in person like you would not believe, but photographs mostly flat.  Ah, well.  This picture was the best of the lot, and it’ll have to do.

I have no destination in mind for either, so as is also becoming stitch-a-long tradition they will be given away as-is to someone who happens to have a use for one or the other of them!  Let me know if you’re interested and we can go from there. ^_^  Pieces are no longer available!

We did it!

The final day is today! Thank you for doing this with us yet another year! We have some fun things under the cut for you besides the final square as well.

This year the mystery was as much the art concept as the words, in case anyone was curious this is what Prism named the file:

So, when Prism sent this over to Fry, the major question was "Is this too sappy?" and honestly, despite the question, it seemed like a good emotion to run with. Each one of us is an individual and remembering that we cannot be a cookie-cutter and pure ideal, but rather the best versions of our often damaged and repaired selves that we can be was what we wanted to put out there for everyone. Also that we all take work and care to keep in a functional state, but we are worthy of the effort.

Also for the science minded folks, @siseja made this suggestion and it fit, so bonus pattern!

In order to fully embrace the traditional old spinster aesthetic, I've decided to take up embroidery/cross-stitching.

Concensus: it's rather surprisingly addictive to a great measure, as in I've been shopping for supplies twice in two days, and stitched today with no substantial breaks from the early evening to FOUR FUCKING AM.

Alright, I’m going to get caught up on the stitchalong here in a moment.

It’s also Saturday which is wash the sheets day. Not sure I can, though. My back’s still messed up from yesterday.

Spunky Camel has a bid, again. Lower starting bid than last time. If she doesn’t legitimately sell this time, I’ll keep her.

Furby buyer hasn’t paid still. Probably won’t at this point. I might have to learn how to fix that myself.

MoonMoon’s still “in transit” meaning lost for now. It seems they slap that status on packages that haven’t updated in a timely manner and are likely still right where they were in the previous update.

Baby Bright Bouquet says Tuesday.

Baby Starflower says Monday.

Mystery Package says OFD. Likely more work? I don’t know. That’s the only thing I’m half-expecting. I didn’t get a message saying anything was sent, so not sure. We’ll find out!

First clue of the shitpostsampler mystery stitchalong finished 👀

Pi Day Stitchalong

It’s taken me a while to do anything with it, but I did finish @mathysphere​‘s recent puzzle stitchalong back in March!  To absolutely no one’s surprise, it ended up on a greeting card.

Also to absolutely no one’s surprise, I embellished it!  I ended up outlining very nearly everything, using a combination of backstitch and couching.  It was mostly just a form of stress relief, to be honest, but it did also serve nicely as a chance to experiment with detailing on dark fabric since I don’t stitch on dark shades very often.  My favorite accidental effect is the sudden appearance of chevrons in the first box!

(The detail-minded observer might additionally notice that I stitched days 9 and 10 in each other’s boxes.  I work retail, and that was right about when Suddenly Plague.  It was a Week and I was very tired.  I think it looks fine anyway, though!)
