An excellent video demonstrating the ways in which J. K. Rowling writes mystery. This has reawakened my love for mystery fiction, which can be spread into many different genres! It helps that I am currently rereading the Harry Potter series and marvelling at how innocuously Rowling places clues inside the narrative.

Doctor Sleep - Das Shining ist zurück

Danny Torrance hat die furchtbaren Ereignisse im Overlook Hotel überlebt. Doch beginnt nach all dem ein neuer Horror für ihn: Der Umgang mit seiner besonderen Fähigkeit - dem Shining - und den sich in schrecklichen Erscheinungen manifestierenden Erinnerungen an das Overlook. So kommt es, dass er als Erwachsener eine starke Zuneigung zum Alkohol entwickelt, wie einst sein Vater Jack und sich immer wieder in die daraus resultierenden Eskapaden stürzt, um sich selbst und der Vergangenheit zu entkommen. Bis er durch einen extremen Zwischenfall, welcher nach einer durchzechten Nacht eintritt, die folgenschwere Entscheidung trifft, sein Leben in einer anderen Stadt vollkommen neu zu beginnen.

Einige Jahre später ist Danny ein anderer Mensch: Er trinkt nicht mehr, hat einen Job in einem Hospiz und findet gute Freunde in seinem neuen Wohnort.

In diesem Hospiz nutzt er das Shining ganz bewusst, um den sterbenden Patienten ihren Weg in das Jenseits zu erleichtern, wofür ihm seine Arbeitskollegen den Spitznamen "Doctor Sleep" verleihen.

Doch der für ihn neugewonnene Frieden wird gestört, als eines Tages das junge Mädchen Abra Stone telepathisch mit ihm Kontakt aufnimmt und Danny klar wird, dass er nicht der Einzige ist, der das Shining besitzt.

Als Abra einer mörderischen Sekte namens "Der Wahre Knoten", angeführt von der skrupellosen und wunderschönen Rose "The Hat" O'Hara, auf die Schliche kommt, die durch ganz Amerika zieht und offenbar auf der Jagd nach Kindern ist, die das Shining besitzen, verbündet sie sich mit Danny, in der Hoffnung diese Gruppe aufzuhalten...

"Doctor Sleep" ist ein Roman, der mich von Anfang bis Ende vollkommen fesseln konnte. Ich würde sogar sagen, dass es Stephen King gelungen ist mit diesem Buch an seine beliebtesten Werke anzuknüpfen. Die Handlung setzt direkt nach "The Shining" ein, so als würden keine zwei Jahre zwischen der Veröffentlichung der Romane liegen. Allein dieser Umstand war für mich als Leser meisterhaft. Auf "Doctor Sleep" aufmerksam geworden bin ich durch den ersten Trailer zu der anstehenden Verfilmung des Stoffes von Mike Flanagan (Regisseur von The Haunting of Hill House, Oculus, Das Spiel), die im November erscheinen wird.

Im ersten Handlungsabschnitt bekommt man als Leser Kings Talent für bildgewaltige Sprache wieder einmal voll zu spüren, wenn er die Auswirkungen von Dannys Alkoholismus und dessen Leidensweg beschreibt.

Auch die von Stephen King oft aufgegriffene Geschichte einer Gruppe von Außenseitern, welche sich zusammenfindet, um einer bösen Kraft entgegenzutreten, bekommt in "Doctor Sleep" ein neues Gewand. Trotz der vielen Stories, die wir über all die Jahre von King präsentiert bekamen, ist es nie vorgekommen, dass er sich selbst beim Erzählen kopiert. Es sind lediglich Parallelen, die uns Lesern das Gefühl geben, man kehrt in eine bekannte und doch zugleich unbekannte Welt zurück: Telepathische Begabungen, Kinder als unschuldige und nahezu göttliche Wesen und der verborgene Schrecken im Alltag.

Zusammengefasst sei "Doctor Sleep" jedem Fan von Stephen King ans Herz gelegt. Dieser Roman enthält all das, was diesen Autor auszeichnet und so unvergleichlich im Horror- und Mysterygenre macht. Starke Charaktere, eine faszinierende Gegenspielerin und eine hochspannende Geschichte mit einem grandiosen Finale.

if your looking for blood, guts and gruesomeness then this is your poison. 

story:  ive got to say i have personally not played the game and so i went into this not knowing exactly what to expect. The story istelf is not bad i mean its a pretty good basic Japanese laid out horror story. The only problem i had, was that there was not enough actual story shown. It decided that it was going to focus on all the guts and blood and creepy stuff instead of actually explaining what the hell was going on, I found this disappointing. After all that build up and mystery in the beginning we don't actually get to know much until near the end. Although i am aware that this is a 4 ep OVA i still feel like they could have gone into a little more depth.

Art: 

The graphics used in this OVA were amazing i was really impressed. Im not used to horror series being this detailed and disturbing (just how i like it :9) The serie intself is pretty recent so i guess it was to be expected. The only thing i didnt like is that everything ended with guts and the remains often seemed to kinda look the same no matter how they died.

Sound: I personally likes the opening however i didn't think it suited the series very well. I was expecting something creepy and eerie...... and i didn't get that kinda feel from the opening. The music used to emphasize the thriller  moments however were great.

Character: 

I kinda liked the characters. They all acted a lot more natural to someone in that situation, i mean if you just saw your best friend die in the most horrific way ever then your not exactly going to be chipper about it unless your mad.... I loved that everyone reacted completely different to the situation they were in, this stopped it from being to repetitive.

Enjoyment: 

I really love horror stories especially the kind with really deep storyline and even though this series storyline isn't the most complicated one it is completely shrouded in mystery and the characters have to put the puzzle pieces together themselves over time until you can see what's really going on.

Overall: 

Great serie, awsome ending and amazing graphics planning to play the game soon
