I want you gone.

Whatever edge he was scared to fall over, he was now plummeting into the abyss, the wind failing to catch him as he descended into nothing.

He was the guy who did the right thing, used his powers for good, stood by family and friends, didn’t betray or inflict wrong against them, but rather shielded them from harm. And yet he was crashing through the atmosphere, spinning into the void as he let his missteps lead him astray, tipping him finally over that inevitable edge.

The jolt of an endless fall was accompanied by an eerie weightlessness that only made him crave the comfort of the ground so much more. And as he struggles, a chasm forms in his chest, his only instinct to swallow, attempting to intake wisps of air that ultimately, don’t fill his lungs, that only make the ache worse, that only make the nothing worse.

I want you gone.

He was dissolving into thin air.

They ask him questions, several questions concerning where, when, why, and how. And some of them he can answer definitively with the upmost certainty, while others are answered more vaguely, not on purpose, it was never on purpose, he just didn’t know.

And that’s what he said before, that’s what he kept telling everyone. He didn’t know. But they still look at him the same. Like the boy who took the misstep, the boy who was tumbling through the hollow void. The boy who did the wrong thing.

He’s sitting in the waiting room of the precinct, unsure of where to go or where to be. He was after all supposed to be gone.

“Hey.”

It sounds like a memory, like a glimmer of before, before when he was the good guy walking the right path.

He turns his head to look over at her and for a split second he feels his feet touch the ground.

“Hey,” he replies, bracing to start falling again, but the weightless feeling never resumes.

“You ok? Carson told me what happened,” and it sounds more like concern than how could you, so he latches onto it and he’s reminded of what feeling still is like.

“I’m not…I’m not really ok,” he trembles out as she sits in a plastic chair next to him.

And she knows the situation well enough to not ask do you want to talk about it. She knows where he’s been so well that she doesn’t press him for more. She just sits in the stillness with him and after a beat reaches for his hand that was placed aimlessly in his lap and tightens her hold around it.

And after free falling, her hand over his paired with tender eyes full of understanding, the whole scene feels like a place of safety he never wants to leave.

He doesn’t feel like the bad guy. He feels like the good guy again.

The real criminal finally gets caught. And of course, like most crimes in his beloved hometown, a scarlet haired girl had something to do with the capture.

He finds himself in a similar place in the precinct as a time when his world was falling (when he was falling), but now he finds steady ground to walk upon as he answers their questions and leaves the situation free of guilt and remorse.

He feels free.

And as he walks through the sliding double doors, the cool winter breeze hits him like a frigid wall, which for once, he’s thankful for because then he can blame the startling look on his face and his halted steps on the weather and not the fact that she’s leaning her back against his car, arms folded, with a slight curious smile on her face.

And this is not the first time he’s looked at her and thought how beautiful she looks, her slightly curled auburn hair drifting down somewhere passed her shoulders, her darker washed jeans matching the denim in her jacket and her eyes the one flickering light in the early evening as the sun hides behinds the trees.

And with the weight of recent time having been lifted off of him, paired with the winter weather and her looking like a dream during dusk, he finds himself wanting to tell her what his mind is racing towards.

You look beautiful.

You are amazing.

I like…

But then she’s already walked toward him in the few seconds his mind got lost and wandered off and now she’s too close to him for any of those words to take flight.

She’s too close for him to say anything but, “thank you for being here.”

And it’s true. He never would have gotten through any of this without her.

(he thinks of the endless list of close calls he’s accumulated and how many of them end with saved by Nancy)

“Anytime, Ace,” she says with the upmost sincerity in her eyes, with her wry smile still displayed on her face.

And he thinks he needs to add more, that maybe she doesn’t get it, that she needs to know she saved him from truly free falling this time.

“No, really Nancy, I mean it, thank you for being here with me through this whole thing, I…” and he quickly glances down at his sneakers before lifting his gaze back up to her and suddenly her playful smile is vanished replaced by a serious line across her lips and a what is he about to say in her eyes.

And maybe it’s the I don’t know what I’d do without you reflected back in her own eyes, or the sudden weighted air residing in the small space between them, their closeness only accentuated by the vastness of the parking lot.

(he flashes back to a time they were in another weighted space and his heart was beating just as fast)

I couldn’t lose you.

He reaches for her, wrapping his arms around her torso in a similar manner to his memory, pulling her tight against him as she nuzzles her face into the fabric of his own denim jacket.

“I don’t know what I’d do without you,” he whispers out above her shoulder near the strands of her hair.

And as the words leave him, he feels a shift in the breeze, the direction usually that indicates…

He releases her from his embrace, her looking surprised at the break in their moment as he looks up at the sky, his eyebrows furrowing as he questions, “is that…”

And his curious look is quickly proceeded by a rumble and then very fervently by small droplets falling onto his forehead. He looks back to her, a small laugh escaping mixed with a sigh, “I can’t believe it’s going to…”

And before he can speak his dismay, there’s a sheet of rain soaking through their clothes.

She starts to laugh hysterically and he in turn quickly grabs her by the hand and starts to rush over to his car, but she stops him midway and he yells over the sound of the pouring rain, “what are you doing?”

“I’m enjoying the rain,” she yells chaotically as she begins to spin around, arms spread out like a vision from a dream.

And he just stands for a beat thinking…

You look beautiful.

You are amazing.

I love…

And he wishes he held her longer.

Nancy Drew and Carson Drew for the Character Asks!

For Nancy Drew:

What I love about her: She represents a modern rendition of the beloved character. As much as I hate to say it, the original character was mostly two-dimensional - she could do no wrong and always had things in order. But I love that Kennedy's Nancy is perfectly flawed. Dark and twisted if I may say so.

What I hate about her: Surprisingly, Nancy Drew is the first character in a while that I've found nothing to hate about. Though I dislike how severe (rightfully so) some of her reactions and defense mechanisms were, I don't hate that about her. Her journey that started in second season about needing help and to not be afraid to reach out for it was beautifully. But if that aspect hadn't been introduced, I'm afraid Nancy Drew could turn into a character like Elena Gilbert (tvdu) in time.

Fav moment/quote: (despite the age-gap and the suddenness with which it was introduced, I liked Nowen a bit) (more like I liked Owen lol) so my fav Nancy quote is "It's not always about a guy" It's an underrated one but it kind of sums her character up lol

Needs more focus on: I know they just started the storyline, but I would like there to be more focus on her mental health and actually dealing with her trauma (Kate died, Lucy died, Celia died, Owen died, Carson got arrested bcz of her, the Wraith, the Roadback etc.) with proper therapy. It sets a good example and carves a character around asking for help when they need it.

Needs less focus on: I can't think of anything, because between actually solving mysteries and shacking up, there can be a lot more of Nancy's past dealt with. So nothing for this. I need more, as always lmao

Friendship: Nancy-Bess-George (Nessorge you might say ;P )- the ship has evolved wonderfully in the least screen time given. Bess is almost like an adoptive sister, she even let herself be punched for Bess. George grew from 'I will not hug you' to plopping together on the couch like 'Have you seriously been thinking of flatlining me?' aaah development...

NOTP: Though they're both hot and the actors might have chemistry, I have to say Namura. BECAUSE HE IS QUITE OLDER THAN HER. I absolutely would hate to see another Marrish type situation arise. Tamura is older and it is not romantic, but creepy for a police officer like him get together with a 19 year old young woman. It only seems good on paper (sometimes) but if this happened irl, just.... NO PLS

Headcanon: This is kind of a Nace headcanon but whale here we go: On their drive to New York in Florence, Nancy refuses to sleep in fear that she will never wake up (morbid). But Ace finally convinces her to catch a wink. When he moves his hand to change the gear, his hand brushes against Nancy's, so paying no heed to the driving inconvenience, Ace holds Nancy's hand with his right, driving mostly one handed till New York.

For Carson Drew:

What I love about him: He is the most patient man to ever exist. I mean, he gets arrested because of his daughter AND HE'S STILL OKAY WITH IT AND SMILES WHEN HE'S HOME. He's also so patient with Bess (ugh just adopt her already) and also Ryan. I mean, I now understand why Kate married him cz damn!

What I hate about him: Nothing. The man is literally dad-material. He's sweet, kind, caring, patient, forgiving, space-giving, possessive, defensive about his daughter's care (lol I should put this in the 'love about him' section but...) HE IS PERFECT YOU HEAR ME? If I got into jail for B&E, my dad would disown my ass, unlike Carson who TALKS to her.

Fav moment/quote: For angst purposes, my favorite moment is when Carson admits that the moment Lucy placed Nancy in his and Kate's arms, Nancy was his daughter. (no one cried in that scene nu-uh, no one.) But for humor purposes, my fav moment is when he asks Ryan for a dollar to reengage his services and Ryan's turns on his rich mode. My favorite quote is when McGinnis has to start a ceremony in the house and Nancy explains why. He's like "There are many things we need to discuss"

Needs more focus on: His thoughts about Nancy walking into supernatural danger (and the trailer does show that we will be seeing more of protective dad mode from Mr. D) I also wouldn't be opposed to a thousand more scenes with Ryan as co-dads.

Needs less focus on: Nothing. As I said it earlier, the man is perfect and nothing should be reduced from his scene-length or characterisation.

Friendship: I'm conflicted between Carson-Ace and Carson-Bess. Both the friendships are so precious!

NOTP: I'm obligated to say Karen because she violated my baby Nancy's privacy and ARRESTED CARSON (WTF KAREN).

Headcanon: Right after Nancy caught Nathan Gomber, Carson and Kate wanted to sleep with Nancy in their bed to keep her close. But she refused, saying that she was fine. Still, both Carson and Kate used to take shifts and camp right outside Nancy's room every night for a few weeks so that they would be there if Nancy had any nightmares or night terrors. (ugh my brain works in mysterious ways)

I've been wanting to do this for some time and seeing @beeoftheanxieties reblogging the appreciation posts with the things she loves about each of them finally convinced me to do it <3

This started as a short list of reasons why I love them but it ended up being way longer than I expected so I'll put it under the cut

Nace

This man has no business being so hot but yet so sweet and cute and cuddly. He looks like he gives the best hugs ever (hopefully I can confirm this one day)

He looks like the shy one out of the five of them, but also seems like the kind of person that would be there for you through thick and thin, always listening and understanding

He said he wanted to be a vet and I think that's so cute

He looks so good with glasses

His tattoos are so cool and I need to have a close up of all of them asap. I'm still not over the fact that the sleeve tattoo goes up to his shoulder (and also the fact that *he* designed it like, talk about talent!)

Last but not least (and which might be my fav thing about him), HIS LAUGH. I swear his laugh is one of my favourite things ever, I could listen/watch him laughing all day and never get tired
