Kites and Kestrels Around Ardrossan
Kites and Kestrels Around Ardrossan
Dear Reader:
I am driving back to Adelaide from Marion Bay and the Innes National Park at the tip of the York Peninsular. The weather is overcast and I have tucked the cameras away after a successful couple of days photographing this lovely area of our state.

Traveling along the remote backroads of the West Australian Outback once again, I am captivated by the raw beauty, scenes of blood-red soil, quicksilver pools, vibrant greens and gold, beautiful reflections.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words and this River Gum lined remote river pool is the guardian of many wonderful stories.
A tale of a pair of Black Swans gliding by, gently honking, creating a golden wake in the magical morning mist.
Ghostly tree trunks, yardsticks of the past and of what is to come. Whirring wings of Budgies, house hunting for their growing families, a pair of passionate Nankeen Kestrels on honeymoon, Whistling Kites renovating, singing a sweet-voiced love song.
The distant, nostalgic 'coo-cooooo' of a Diamond Dove and a gang of Black-faced Cuckoo-shrikes conspiring to some mysterious plan. Mudlarks caught up in another dispute with their neighbours.
The day drifts by, like bush honey, languid, golden, sweet and in no rush. And then as the evening approaches, the silence is shattered by a cacophony of returning Corellas, competing with the Blue-winged Kookaburras, who insist on punctuating each day.
And suddenly there is darkness and silence, thousands of stars and the gentle chorale of crickets, and, as if sharing my gratitude, far off in the distance, a Boobook softly calls, “Thank you”.
Then it dawns on me,
this is the way it has always been …..

Port Elliot to Goolwa…A Wildlife Drive
Port Elliot to Goolwa…A Wildlife Drive
Scrub and dunes between Coorong National Park and Goolwa Beach
Dear Reader:
A lone Silver Gull is perched on the parking sign next to the Flying Fish Café on Port Elliot’s picturesque Horseshoe Bay. Two hours should be more than enough for a fish and chips lunch while watching a few brave souls taking a dip in the chilly winter waters.
Parking restrictions…seagulls only
Across the bay, a…
