Summary: You and Franco celebrate Thanksgiving together for the first time and Franco nearly gags when he sees American Thanksgiving dishes

You and Franco had been together for the better part of the year, about 7 months. Thanksgiving was coming up and, on the same weekend F1 would be racing in Qatar, not allowing Franco to be with you on Thanksgiving day, which was honestly a disappointment to the both of you. However, after moving around some plans, the two of you managed to pick a date that worked for everyone to be in your hometown to celebrate the holiday, before Franco had to go off and be a star (and an icon).

To say you were excited was an understatement. It was not only your first time having a boyfriend, but having a boyfriend during the holidays. You were excited to create new memories with Franco and show him how you celebrate the holidays in America.

Your family typically divides the work for the food every year and this time you were in charge of making the sweet potato and marshmallow dish, something you knew was gonna throw Franco into a whirl about. Your boyfriend enjoys making fun of some American dishes and you don’t mind because it’s fun and you can see how some of them are strange.

You two were in your apartment the morning of Thanksgiving dinner. You got ready for the day and decided it would be best to change into your outfit after you’ve cooked. You settled on wearing one of Franco’s shirts and a pair of his shorts for now. You then decided to head to the kitchen to prepare your dish, Franco trailing behind you like a puppy.

“You look pretty wearing my clothes.” Franco complimented.

You deadpanned to Franco with an emotionless face asking, “do I not look pretty any other time? Is this the only time I look pretty?”

Franco’s face turned red and he was panicking, “I- no, no, amor. Thats- that’s not what I-“

“I’m kidding, love. Relax, looked like you almost shit yourself then.” you laughed.

Franco took a breath of relief and just smiled at your antics, “ha ha, so funny.”

As you pulled out the ingredients you’d be needing, Franco watched in confusion.

“Amor, what- what are you making? You have sweet potatoes, marshmallows, and pecans on the table. Is it all for one dish? No, right?” he questions, cocking his head to the side.

“It is for one dish. I’m making a sweet potato casserole!” you exclaim excitedly, knowing it was one of your favorite dishes and you can only have it during Thanksgiving.

“Eugh. No, amor. No.”, you watch as Franco makes a face of disgust, “Why?”

“It’s good, baby. I promise. When it’s all baked together with the seasonings, it tastes like heaven.” you think, displaying a picture of the dish in your mind.

Franco all but side eyes to your response, “I thought I tasted like heaven…” he pouts.

“Sweet potato casserole tastes better, babe. Sorry.” you flash a toothy smile.

“Ay dios mio. Is this what I’m marrying into?” Franco jokes, dropping head into his hands.

“Ehm! I beg your finest pardon?! Where the fuck is my ring?”, wiggling your ring finger at him, “Don’t joke about marriage, bitch. Or I’ll start doing the ending riff of Defying Gravity all day long.”

“Ay no, por favor, no. As much as I love your singing, amor. I can’t listen to any songs from Wicked right now. It’s all you’ve been playing the past month! Please, anything but Wicked, anything!” Franco pleads with you.

“Fine. Your funeral though.” you say, carrying on with your cooking.

“Que?”

“Nada”

Franco is left speechless, but you carry on with your actions.

After plopping onto a chair and pouting, Franco got curious, “Amor, can you tell me what Thanksgiving is? I know you give thanks, but why?”.

“Well, in school we were taught that years ago, around this time, the pilgrims and Native Americans came together to share a meal and be peaceful with one another. They basically celebrated a successful harvest but with most of American history, there’s some lies. But Americans really don’t care about history. It’s just a day where most of us don’t have to work and an excuse to stuff our faces with food that’s really bad for us.”

“That’s….nice.”

“I can feel the judgement from here.”

“I’m not judging, just learning.” he smiles cheekily, “but in all honesty, your reality is so different from mine. In Argentina we don’t have this holiday and strange foods, but I want to learn all about your crazy American traditions if it means I get to be by your side. I go where you go.”

“I go where you got too.” you say, still blushing from his words.

“Maybe ‘I go where you go’ can be our ‘always’.”

You tried to suppress your laugh and threw a few marshmallows at his response, “You’re done. You’re done. I cannot believe you just quoted The Fault In Our Stars.”

He’s giggling to himself and it’s one of your favorite things in the world. It’s just not fair of him to be so cute and funny. If he keeps this shit up, you swore you were gonna marry him.

During the drive to your parents house for dinner, you and Franco listened to music. As passenger princess, Franco had control of the aux and he played a playlist he had made when you two first started dating. He knew that sharing music was sort of a love language of yours so he saved all the ones you had mentioned at times or the songs he would always find on repeat when you were around.

It was a peaceful drive, that is until No Good Deed from Wicked came on. As soon as the opening chords started, Franco knew there was no stopping you. He watched as you put on a one woman performance for him, and him only. Yes, it was from Wicked but he couldn’t lie. If you’re the one singing, he didn’t mind the constant sound.

He was also thankful it wasn’t Defying Gravity or else you would’ve been asking for a broom to hold. He also knew you would’ve fucked up your voice a bit if you attempted Cynthia Erivo’s riff.

The two of you arrived at your parents house and were warmly welcomed by the rest of your family. Though the house was already decorated in Christmas decor, the feeling of Thanksgiving was flowing through the air. Your dad already had the (American) football game

playing on the tv, calling Franco over to once again try and convert him into a fan.

You watched as your boyfriend was practically dragged away from you, laughing as he mouthed the words ‘help me’. Your dad adored Franco and your Franco loved hanging with your dad. As they went on to do their antics, you walked to the kitchen, setting down the dish you had prepared and began to help your mom finish up some cooking.

“So,” your mom starts, “how are you and Franco?”

You couldn’t help but smile, you’re glad she brought him up first because you can never have a conversation if it’s not about him.

“We’re good. When he found out that he was able to make it to dinner, he was so excited. He’d immediately asked me a million questions on whether he should bring something or not as a gift. But I told him to not worry about it, there’s enough food and drinks so we didn’t need anything.”

“He’s a sweet boy. I’m glad you found him, he’s brought back a light in you that I haven’t seen in a long time.”

You looked up at your mom and almost burst into tears. You didn’t know that color was coming back to you. Before any tears spilled, Franco walked into the kitchen and went straight to you. When you were close enough, he wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you close and kissing your hair.

“Do you guys need any help?” he’d asked you guys.

“I don’t think we need any help here but you know what I need help with?” you aunt asks, raising a cheeky eyebrow at Franco, “I need help dancing to this song.”

You watched as your aunt grabbed Franco's hand and pulled him away from you to dance with him. The two danced and swayed to the music as the rest of you laughed and cheered them on. You’re glad your family gets along with Franco well.

Music, laughter, and chatter filled the air, along with the savory and sweet smells of the food that was almost ready to eat. Once everything was cooked, your mother, aunt, and yourself began to set the table with the silverware and make the table look as beautiful as can be. As if they could sense that everything was ready, Franco, your father, uncles, aunts and cousins joined you at the table.

As each of you began to take your seats, Franco was almost split in half. Everyone wanted to be seated next to him. You were all for sharing but Franco was yours. As long as you got to sit on one side of Franco, no heads would roll and peace would prosper.

In the end, one of your cousins ended up sitting on the other side of Franco, ready to bombard the poor boy with questions about racing and F1.

Before digging into the food, everyone had to give thanks and say what they were grateful for. Most of your family said the typical stuff like thankful for having a happy, loving family and having a roof over their head. That was until it was your cousin’s turn…

“This year, I’m grateful that Logan was dropped from Williams and that Franco was able to have that seat. My best buddy is a F1 driver now. But R.I.P. Logan, my American king. Also R.I.P. Sebastian Vettel, you would’ve loved Franco. Anyways, who's next?” your cousin clapped his hands, looking around the table.

Crickets could be heard from the silence.

Franco, thankfully, moved the conversation forward and said his thanks. “Well, ehm. I think I have a lot to be thankful for this year. I’m thankful for my opportunity to drive in F1, and even though I don’t know where I’ll be next year, I’m still happy I got this chance. I’m also super grateful for y/n. We only met this year but she’s still amazing and has been there for me through a lot. And I’m also grateful for having been invited to join you guys today and that you guys are so cool and welcoming, so thank you.”

Everyone basically awed at Franco and his little speech. Meanwhile you were on the verge of tears. You’d never known love like this and you couldn’t believe he chose you. He was like a poem that you wished you’d written.

After some deep breaths from you, everyone began to dig into the food, well, everyone except for Franco. The boy was absolutely lost, he didn’t know what half the stuff was and he wasn’t sure how to go about anything. You took it upon yourself to start his plate for him so that he could familiarize himself with some of the foods and not get overwhelmed.

When you set his plate down in front of him again, he looked at the plate confused and then turned to you, silently asking you to tell him what everything was.

“You’ve got some ham, sweet potato casserole, green beans, and mashed potatoes to start. I know you like all those even if you haven’t tried some yet. From here you can work your way around the dishes on the table.” you smile.

“Gracias, amor. I really am grateful for you and all that you do.”

“Tell me, lover. How grateful are you?” you cheekily ask.

With a wink, Franco replies, “I’ll show you after dinner.”

“The only thing I will be showing you if anything is my shit because I am so full.” Franco tells you as he settles himself on the couch.

The whole family had wrapped up dinner and finished off the night with some dessert. Now some of the family were chatting over some drinks to end the night.

“Please don’t.” you tell Franco.

“Ok, I wasn’t actually planning on showing you my shit. Ay dios.” states as he rolls his head to rest on the back of the couch.

You take a seat next to Franco, resting your head on his shoulder, his arm instinctively wrapping around you. His other arm reached for your hands and held them close. You swore his hands were so warm that they made hell seem cold.

You really were grateful for him. The two of you had been through some tough times so early into your relationship. There were times where you wondered if it was meant to be and if it would all work out. You’d even tried to push him away at some point, believing his life would be easier if you weren’t there to drag him down. But he stayed. There have been moments where you’ve been mean to him, times where you were so depressed that you would stay in bed all day and didn’t move. Days where you didn’t respond to his texts or calls because you couldn’t. But despite all that, he’s still here.

You’ve burned so many bridges in your life. You’ve made the same mistakes over and over but now you know you did one thing right. You love Franco with everything you have and he’s the person you trust the most. He knows you better than you know yourself most of the time. Even when you lose your mind, he’s still yours.

if you don't mind answering a quick question for me? and hopefully i word this well enough to understand.

what's the general opinion on casting indigenous fcs for siblings / family / etc. but don't have the same tribes? like anna lembe & devery jacobs, for example. both are north american indigenous (correct me if im wrong here too!) but come from different tribes: inuit & mohawk. is it acceptable to cast them as sisters? or is that generally frowned upon?

follow up - please im so sorry i have a million questions - is casting someone, take anna again, for a character of a different tribe also unacceptable? like if i wanted to use her as leah clearwater from twilight, who is quileute.

hi! sorry this is so late, i was at work</3 but let me answer both of those questions! before i say anything, i want to say that this is my singular opinion. other indig people might have something else to say and that's also valid! ( if you're native and want to add your own thoughts, agreeing or disagreeing, please do so! )

first question about my opinion on casting indig fcs of different tribes as family members. i really don't care! like obviously keeping them from the same area ( i don't want to see froy gutierrez who's caxcan from mexico and cody christian who's penobscot and passamaquoddy from the northeast of america as family ) but anna and devery who are both from indig nations in north america? i personally see no issue with that. and my reason being there's not many indig fcs on the big screen in general, and even less in the rpc! would it be nice to have a 100% match for a tribe to cast as siblings to rp? absolutely! but that's just not plausible right now at all. even if we do have a match of fcs, some might not have resources or be comfortable being rp'd! like anna lambe is inuk and willow allen is also inuk, but willow doesn't really have a lot of roleplayable resources so somebody might not want to cast her as anna's sister! again, this is entirely my own opinion, but i think being mindful of areas ( like you said with keeping the territories similar ) is all that i would ask for! otherwise, i don't expect anybody to have a match in nations for indig family casting.

second question about casting fcs to canon native roles! again, i don't really have a problem with this because of the lack of native resources / actors around! like would it be cool to find a quileute indig actor with lots of resources to fit in a canon quileute character? duh. but that's just not realistic. and it might not be realistic for other characters, either. to just reiterate the point, i think finding as close of a match as you can in terms of territory and looks wise ( like if a native character is said to have dark brown skin and they're from the northeast of america, we might not want to use cody christian who has lighter skin even though he's from that area! ) then i have no problem with that. it'd only be a problem if you have like a canon nation in like south america and are trying to use a native fc from alaska because that culture is just vastly different. and i know each nation has their own culture and traditions, but this is rp! and i think finding the most realistic choice, while respecting native fcs and doing the best you can, is all we can ask for!

and i think we should be more into having native rep in the rpc in the most respectful way ( which is basically what i just explained above! ) over 100% nation match or nothing. because what does that solve? now an anna lambe fc doesn't have a devery jacobs sister? so there's just 1 native fc being used instead of 2? just take this with a grain of salt because the last thing i want to do is speak for all native people ( we've already lived through that reign ) but i hope this sheds some light on where i and other indigs might be coming from! if you have any other questions, please let me know<3

BIOGRAPHY:

Much of Roy’s distant past is mired in conflict and blood. Thinking back on those days is much like peering into a broken mirror: the glassy surface reflects an image distorted by a web of fractures and the longer he looks, the less he’s able to make out what it is he is seeing. It is disorienting. Impossible to tell where one memory begins and the other ends.

What he knows is this: he was born in the mountains of the Tōhoku region, at the beginning of what is now known as the Sengoku Period. His mother, Myorin, survived the wave of Mongol invasions led by Kublai Khan, and the ensuing bedlam instilled in her a profound distrust of humans and their war-mongering ways. She raised him far from the settlements built in the lowlands between the mountain range, preferring the freedom and safety of the wilderness to mortal entanglements, but the devastation left in the wake of the last war couldn’t be outrun. Not even the deepest parts of the forests, or the tallest mountain peak, could escape the political chaos and civil revolt which spread across the land like wildfire, burning and reducing everything in its path to cinders.

He also knows there is no glory in war, though this realization came centuries later. History would have you believe honor was won on the battlefield, clan banners held high, as warriors clad in ancestral armor charged forth in the name of their lords, staining the earth red with the blood of their enemies. There is no such thing. No honor, no greatness. There is only fear and hubris. Sudden and indiscriminate violence. Countless lives sent to the slaughter on behalf of petty and vainglorious masters who vied for whatever scraps of power and control they could wrest from their neighbor.

Blood and fire. It became easier, then, for Roy to view the world of mortals as parasitic. Industrious and prolific, they were also invasive and drove out the native life in favor of consuming resources and extending their territory until they inevitably outgrew their borders, glutted on the dead and the suffering of those who came before them. He can’t recall the names, much less the faces, of those he’d felled as a direct, or indirect, result of his actions. Never bothered to commit them to memory because, at the time, they meant nothing. There was no mercy in his heart. No empathy. He felt nothing for them.

Didn’t think twice about instigating conflict between warring daimyos, or sowing discord and distrust between once powerful allies just to stand back and watch as they destroyed themselves from within.

Centuries of conflict, sociopolitical strife, and rebellion is how Roy earned most of his nogitsune tails. Very rarely has he experienced peace, and if he ever did, it was fleeting. Sufficed to say there was very little time for peace and prosperity thanks to enduring notoriety and a reputation for exacting brutality.

Roy emigrated from Japan to the United-States some time between 1894-1895 due to the ongoing war with China at that point in time. He accomplished this by possessing American tradesmen who brought their ships to port in the city of Hakodate to refuel and restock on provisions. It is around this time he took up the name Roy. Once the trade ship made its journey back to Los Angeles, he spent the following decades exploring the country, learning English, and coming to blows with old and pedigreed lineages of Hunters who thought it wise to chase after a six-tailed kitsune.

He made his way to and settled in Wicked’s Rest, Maine, following the forcible relocation and incarceration of Japanese American citizens. Coincidentally, it is during this time Roy acquired his sixth tail. Since then, he’s kept a low profile, focusing instead on living a quiet life as Roy Shimada.

PERSONALITY:

Assertive · Brutal · Committed · Callous · Devious · Diligent · Proud · Thoughtful

OTHER INFO:

Roy is a carpenter who specializes primarily in restoring dilapidated and/or condemned buildings. He works primarily in the bad part of town, aka Worm Row, but he has no problem working on other housing projects if the price is right.

Roy Shimada is not his real name. It’s an identity he created for himself after he immigrated to the United States over a century ago.

Abides by strict principles of defensivism as part of his longstanding agreement with local and prominent ranger families. Basically, so long as he doesn’t go around killing or tormenting humans, they’re content to let him live peacefully in Wicked’s Rest.

Number 1 after thyroid cancer: “Happy ending” for Berger

Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger was in Merle Frohms' shadow for a long time. At 33 and after difficult times, the Göppingen native has found her way between the posts in the DFB selection.

Marseille (dpa) - Deeply moved, Ann-Katrin Berger stood in the catacombs of the Stade Vélodrome and described her feelings in a halting voice. Two years after her second cancer diagnosis, the 33-year-old is suddenly the number 1 goalkeeper for the German women's soccer team at the Olympics . "The Olympic Games mean everything. That all the hard times that are behind me have simply been worth it," said Berger after the DFB selection's convincing 3-0 opening victory against Australia in Marseille.

Back to Thyroid Cancer

Berger was first diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2017 and then during the 2022 European Championships, when she was a substitute for regular goalkeeper Merle Frohms in England. The goalkeeper from the US club NJ/NY Gotham FC quickly fought her way back into competitive sport. After her eleventh and most important international match to date, however, she had to struggle to keep her composure. "It's nice that there is still a happy ending. Playing at the Olympic Games is my happy ending," said Berger.

In the second preliminary round match on Sunday (9 p.m.), also in the French port city, Berger and the DFB women will face the team of her adopted homeland. The Americans also won their opening match against Zambia 3-0. But the goalkeeper can't give national coach Horst Hrubesch much advice on their next opponent, even though she of course knows some of the players: "I have no idea. I don't watch that much women's football, to be honest."

After a long wait, Berger has reached the top of the national team, even though she still wears the number 12. The fact that she finished third in the FIFA World Goalkeeper of the Year vote as Chelsea FC's goalkeeper in 2021 and 2022 did not change her reserve status in the German team at the time.

Hrubesch had left the duel between Berger and Frohms open to the outside world until the very end. "I really thought he was trying to fool me. To be honest. I really couldn't believe it," Berger said a few days ago about the national coach's announcement that she would be between the posts. "Even when I was on the pitch, I had to pinch myself and say: It's really true."

Captain Popp is happy for Berger

Like the entire national team, Berger showed a very confident performance and almost set up a goal by Jule Brand with a long kick in the early stages. When asked how she managed to stay so cool, she said with a smile: "Years of work. Years of work, guys." She couldn't let her nervousness show. "I always think of my team. Because when I screw up, it's usually a goal."

Captain Alexandra Popp was also happy "for Anne that she finally made it after a long, long time." Berger exudes extreme calm when she has the ball at her feet. Hrubesch, for whom Berger is the "new old woman," praised "her clearances, her control of the penalty area. She's good up in the air, and her footballing skills are also a plus." But it's the same with Frohms, he added: "Lucky for those who have two goalkeepers like her."

The praise is only a small consolation for the previous number 1 at VfL Wolfsburg, who has hardly done anything wrong in recent years. Hrubesch had spoken to her first before making his decision: "Of course she must have swallowed it one day, I'm quite sure of that." For Berger, the relationship with her teammate has therefore not changed much: "At the end of the day, we are sportswomen. Horst was simply clear and straightforward."

🔥 - The above is a gif of me looking for the belief that describing a tribal character or setting of any sort as 'animalistic' is racist. Because it isn't. It's always baffled me how people see conflict in comparing indigenous muses or tribalesque muses as anything wild, or anything to do with the outdoors. Because here's the thing, it's NOT A BAD THING, tribal people literally are more often times than not labelled that way because they are for the most part, AMONG that which is their surroundings. Their beliefs and system of living depends and influenced HEAVILY by the wilds that surround them. Their names, or their beliefs, or their animalistic habits or qualities reflect their beliefs, way of life, habits, WHICH IS usually one with nature of some type of in some way. I was taught that SEEING THESE QUALITIES AS BAD was in itself, the RACIST perspective. Because to see these animalistic qualities or habits or relations as bad, is in itself - pushing a colonized view that this is in fact bad an 'uncivilized' and projecting a view that tribal perspectives are 'dirty' somehow. And I'm getting REAL annoyed anytime I see that view pushed anywhere. So yeah, if I ever write a Dalish elf, I'm going to write her as angry and feral when shes battle raging. (And this doesn't even apply to JUST North American tribes I mean tribal as in OVERALL tribes across the world)

🔥 - On lieu of the above, I've said this a thousand times on my old and not active multi @aworldofyou but since it's related. If you write a native muse of any type, especially based out of North America. YOUR MUSE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THE SAME TRIBE AS THE FC, THE FC DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THE SAME TRIBE AS THE MUSE. I don't know WHERE this idea came from, WHO started it, but it pisses me off every time I see it because it's not that way in real life. Okay. You have ONE native actor who plays all sorts of different tribes, or ONE native actress who is from a southern tribe who gets mostly casted as an Alaskan Tribe, like it doesn't matter so long as your FC has some type of native blood in them. And YES it can be that their dad's a native or half native, because look at Julia Jones or Ian Ousley. AND THEY ARE STILL VALID!! BECAUSE ENROLLMENT IS SUCH A COMPLICATED TOPIC IN ALL TRIBES!! IN DIFFERENT WAYS!! It does no good to carry the energy of gatekeeping this in the RPC of any kind concerning indigenous muses.
