Barbie conventions are always a great opportunity to see interesting exclusive Barbies. Some of these will be OOAK dolls created for auction, while others are limited run collectibles as exclusives for attendees.

It is just possible that I am inspired to make this post because I still haven't decided if I want to go to an Australian doll collectors convention later this year.

This isn't the first time I've talked about convention Barbies, but I just wanted to share a few for the record.

In 2017, Bill Greening brought us the platinum label Golden Galaxy Barbie. (I still haven't got over my feelings about Bill Greening.) This is broadly in the same style as the Space Goddess series from 2012, featuring such collectibles as Empress of the Aliens and Queen of the Constellations, and also designed by Greening. In fact, specifically her corset/vest makes me think of Empress of the Aliens and Goddess of the Galaxy, and her colour scheme is a little closer to Queen of the Constellations. I like that she's wearing a bodysuit, rather than a dress though.

Another one that I find charming for entirely unrelated reasons, but also designed by Bill Greening, is 2007's Dallas Darlin' Barbie.

The box she came in was also incredible. I love her.

Where's Midge?

A lot of the characters from this game at this year's National Barbie Collector's Convention have surfaced as dolls or at least fashion packs...where is this adorably demure Midge or at least her New Look inspired maternity fashion? I don't want the doll, necessarily. I just want to see the concept executed.

Am I going to have to do everything?

Which relatively inexpensive redheaded doll would be better suited for this project?

Barbie Careers - Chicken Farmer Playset. Pros: Several fights would break out among my doll crew over the denim booty shorts, the Live, Love, Farm tee shirt and the cute accessories. Cons: Kinda lifeless looking. Also the chicken coop itself is a waste of plastic.

Redheaded Barbie Looks doll? Pros: Build skill styling the curls in a low stakes situation. Made-to-move-body. Cons: Her eyes are so tiny.

The National Barbie Doll Collectors Convention in 2024 took place over July 30th - August 3rd in Palm Desert California.

I've talked before about Barbie board games: well, if you enjoyed that, you'd be delighted to hear that the theme for the NBDCC for 2024 was Mystery on Dreamhouse Drive.

If the name and the reference to board games didn't spell it out for you... yes, they did a Clue(do) themed convention game.

It was not about murder, if you are curious. The mystery is the mystery of the missing Dreamhouse blueprint and who lost it where in the house behind what furniture item.

If I understand the rules of the game, anyway. Unfortunately as an Australian who can't justify trying to get a ticket or taking the substantial time off work to attend, I've never been to and doubt I ever will be to a Barbie convention. (Although to be fair I have really thought about the ABC Doll Club Convention in 2025.)

Anyway! Despite the fact that it wasn't murder themed, some of the suspects are really charming in a fun way.
