NFL Wk 7 top 5 contest picks, Westgate top 5 picks and Season to date football recap posted

The NFL Top 5 picks went 2-3 last week. The swing game was the Raider NE game were the Raider scored a safety with almost no time

left to cover:(  Not a good end game to say the least for me.

In NFL plays last week I went 1-2 continuing my slow start to this season. Bringing my plays in the NFL to 3-8-2

In College football however we are having a solid season. This week was a 3-0 week with 2 dogs winning the game out right.

That brings my college football season to date record to 20-14-1

Public favorites in the NFL are covering at a rate of 56% this season. My guess is we will start seeing some reversion soon. The public

will need to be aware that the NFL is not this easy:)

Joseph Vincent Paterno (December 21, 1926 – January 22, 2012; aged 85), sometimes referred to as JoePa, was an American college football player, athletic director, and coach. He was the head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions from 1966 to 2011. With 409 victories, Paterno is the most victorious coach in NCAA FBS history. His career ended with his dismissal from the team on November 9, 2011, as a result of the Penn State child sex abuse scandal. He died 74 days later, of complications from lung cancer.

In the 90s to early 2000s Joe Pa was doable, at least to me. But after the whole Jerry Sandusky deal. Not so much. And you must admit his life was wrecked after Sandusky deal became known.

JoePa was married 50 years with five children, which goes to my 'loves to fuck' theory. You know what could have help him in the end? Fucking around. Not with me. I wasn’t street legal until 95. Patrick Lavon Mahomes II (September 17, 1995) is a football quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. The son of former Major League Baseball pitcher Pat Mahomes, he played college football and baseball at Texas Tech. Following his sophomore year, he quit baseball to focus solely on football. In his junior year, he led all NCAA Division I FBS players in multiple categories including passing yards (5,052) and total touchdowns (53). He was selected 10th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2017 NFL Draft.

He, along with Lamar Jackson, Cam Newton, and Steve McNair, is one of only four African American quarterbacks to win the AP MVP award. During the 2019–20 Playoffs, he led the Chiefs to Super Bowl LIV, their first Super Bowl appearance and victory in 50 years. He led the Chiefs to their second consecutive Super Bowl. He won his second career NFL MVP and his second Super Bowl MVP in Super Bowl LVII, becoming the first player to win NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP in the same year, and the third quarterback to win multiple regular season and Super Bowl MVPs.

NFL Week 6 Top 5 picks, Westgate top 5 picks, Recap of football season to date all posted

Week 5 in the NFL went 0-5 in contest picks and 0-1 in plays. In addition my all picks contest went 4-10. Just a tough week in the NFL last week.

That brings my season to date record in the NFL to Plays 2-6-2  Top 5 picks  10-12-2 and the all spread contest at 39-39

I am missing a game in the top 5 so will have to track that down after I am finished handicapping today.

In College football we went 3-2 this weekend. That brings my season to date record to 17-14-1 on sides and 1-1 on totals

In post season MLB we have had two plays going 1-1 for +.37 units.

第5週のAPランクのトップ10チームでは、第1位ジョージア大、第2位ミシガン大、第3位テキサス大がそれぞれ勝利し、ランクに変化はなかった。トップ10チーム同士の対戦で第9位だったノートルダム大が第6位だったオハイオ州立大に敗れことを除いて、内容の差はあるがトップ10チームは全て勝利した。 トップ10で順位を上げたのは、ノートルダム大との激戦を制したオハイオ州立大が第4位にランクを2つ上げ、ペン・ステートが第6位、ワシントン大が第7位、オレゴン大が第9位、ユタ大が第10位にそれぞれランクを1つ上げた。一方、順位を下げたのは、フロリダ州立大がランク外のクレムソン大に勝利したが苦戦してランクを1つ下げて第5位、USCもランク外のアリゾナ州立大にパッとしない勝利でランクを3つ下げて第8位。 トップ10以外では第21位だったワシントン州立大が第14位だったオレゴン州立大に終始リードして勝利し、ランクを一気に5つ上げて第16位に上昇させたのが目立った。なお、第14位だったオレゴン州立大はランク5つ下げて第19位、第15位だったミシシッピ大はアラバマ大に敗れて同じくランクを5つ下げて第20位に降下した。 また、開幕4連勝の第23位ミズーリ大、第24位キャンザス大、第25位フレスノ州立大の3チームが、ランク外からランク・インした。逆に、第19位だったコロラド大、第22位だったUCLA、第24位だったアイオア大が敗れて、ランク外に転落した。トップ10チームの状況は以下の通り。

ジョージア大は総合力で勝るアラバマ大バーミングハム校に、49対21で順当に勝利し21連勝を記録した。新スターティングQBカーソン・ベックは、338ヤード投げて、3回のTDと次第に主戦QBらしくなってきた。エースTEブロック・バウワーズは、9回のレシーブで121ヤード獲得、2回のTD。4ゲーム目にして今シーズン初のTDを奪い、シーズン中盤に向けて調子を上げてきた。一方、アラバマ大バーミングハム校に負ける気配はなかったが、３回のファンブルでうち2回ロストとターンオーバーを喫した。強敵と対戦するまでに修正が必要な懸念事項である。今週末はランク外とは言え、名門オーバーン大と対戦する。

第2位　ミシガン大　変化なし

ミシガン大はHCジム・ハーボウが大学による出場停止が解けてサイドラインに復帰した。ラトガース大との対戦ではラトガース大に今シーズン2回目となるTDを奪われた先行されたが、次第にランとパスの両面で盛り返して31対7で勝利した。QB・J.J.マッカーシーは格下のチーム相手の対戦が続いているとは言え、全米でトップの79.8%のパス成功率を誇る。守備は3Qにラトガース大の第4ダウン残り2ヤードのギャンブルを止めて、ゲームのモメンタムを確保した。ミシガン大は今週末、今シーズン初めてアウェーでネブラスカ大と対戦する。11月11日のペン・ステートとの対戦までランク入りのチームとの対戦がない上位チームとしては楽なスケジュールだ。

第3位　テキサス大　変化なし

テキサス大は敵地で2連敗していたベイラー大に38対6で快勝した。QBクイン・イワーズは23回投げて18回成功、293ヤード獲得、1回のTD、被インターセプト無しと余裕のクォーターバッキングだった。今週末は4連勝で第24位キャンザス大と対戦する。キャンザス大は開幕から4連勝だが、順当ならばテキサス大が勝利するだろう。

第4位　オハイオ州立大　2ランク上昇

オハイオ州立大は第9位だったノートルダム大と対戦し、4Qに逆転勝利を収めてランクを2つ上昇させた。新QBカイル・マコードは、敵地ノートルダム・スタジアムの逆境の中で、耐えるクォーターバッキングで逆転勝利して、チームメイトの信頼を確固たるものにした。一方、現時点では他チームを圧倒する強いチームというイメージはなく、まだこれから成長する余地が多いチームというイメージである。今週末は4連勝のメリーランド大と対戦する。

第5位　フロリダ州立大　1ランク下降

フロリダ州立大はACCの宿敵クレムソン大とのオーバータイムの激戦を制した。フロリダ州立大がクレムソン大に勝利するのは10年ぶりで、ACCのパワーバランスの変化を予感させた。しかし、攻撃は安定していたとは言えず、QBジョーダン・トラビスは負傷していた左肩を悪化させてしまった。守備はファンブル・リターンで得点し、オーバータイムにクレムソン大を抑え込んだ。今週末のバイウィークを経て、バージニア工科大、シラキュース大のランク外チームと連戦する。

第6位　ペン・ステート　1ランク上昇

ペン・ステートは第24位だったアイオワ大に31対0で勝利した。APランク入りチームを完封したのは1999年以来で、アイオワ大の攻撃には課題が多いとは言え、守備の強さが印象に残った。ミシガン大から転校したアイオワ大QBケイド・マクナマラは、14回投げて5回成功、42ヤード獲得と振るわず、アイオア大の総獲得ヤードはわずか76ヤードに抑え込まれた。ペン・ステートはフィジカルに強く、スキルもしっかりしているので、今週末のノースウェスタン大、続くマサチューセッツ大に連勝して、10月21日の第4位オハイオ州立大との大一番を迎えることは確実と言って良いだろう

ワシントン大はカリフォルニア大と対戦して、インターセプト・リターンTD、パント・リターンTDを奪い、攻撃がフィールドに出る前に14対0でリード。その後も攻守に手綱を緩めず、59対32で快勝した。ハイズマン賞候補に浮上したQBマイケル・ピニックスは25回投げて19回成功、304ヤード獲得、4回のTD、1回の被インターセプト。全米で最多の4ゲームで16回のTDパスを奪っている。前半だけで45点得点は20年ぶりと好調ぶりを示している。今週末はアリゾナ大と対戦し、その後10月14日に第9位オレゴン大とのビッグ・ゲームが待っている。

第8位　USC　3ランク低下

第9位　オレゴン大　1ランク上昇

オレゴン大は第19位だったコロラド大に42対6で圧勝した。コロラド大がチーム最高のプレー・メーカーのCB・WRトラビス・ハンターを負傷で欠いていたのが残念��ったが、オレゴン大は攻守にコロラド大を圧倒してフットボールをさせなかった。QBボウ・ニックスはオーバーン大時代と合わせて55回のTDを奪った。QBポジションが脆弱なオーバーン大はニックスを失ったことを悔やんでいるだろう。オレゴン大は今週末は1勝3敗で元気がないスタンフォード大との対戦になる。

第10位　ユタ大　1ランク上昇

ユタ大の守備が第22位UCLAのフレッシュマンQBダンテ・モアの攻撃最初のパスをインターセプトしてTD。UCLAはFBSで3位となる1ゲーム当たり279.3ヤードのラン攻撃を誇っていたが、ユタ大の守備フロントが優勢でゲームを通じてわずか32ヤードのランに抑え込まれた。ユタ大はエースQBキャメロン・ライジングがいつ戦線に戻るのか不明なのが懸念と言えば懸念である。ユタ大は今週金曜日に第19位オレゴン大とアウェーで対戦する。UCLAはランク外に転落した。（注：ユタ大は金曜日にオレゴン州立大に7対21で敗戦）

The best explanation I can think of for why college sports are so huge in the US is the fact that, compared to the number of states and sizable cities there are in this country, only a small number of them have pro sports teams, but almost all of them have a college or university with an athletics department.

I'll talk solely about American football given that it is the most popular college sport (and most popular sport full-stop) in the US.

The NFL has 32 teams, which is quite a lot, but with only really one exception (Green Bay, Wisconsin), every one of those teams is located within or near a massive metro area. And even then, the Green Bay metro area has a population well over 400k people. Despite this, Green Bay is the smallest metro area with a major pro sports team in the US.

Compare this to the English Premier League, a league of 20 clubs which has featured numerous clubs which represent much smaller populations. The Borough of Burnley, which has a population of less than 100k, has seen it's club compete in the EPL for several seasons recently. Many other smaller population centers have also seen their club in England's top flight, like Wigan, Blackburn, and West Bromwich.

I use England as an example because I think there is a perfect comparison to be made between American football and Football football. The English Premier League is essentially the NFL of English football, where the best teams and best players play. But below the Premier League are more leagues with increasingly smaller clubs representing increasingly smaller populations, from the 2nd tier EFL Championship to the 5th tier National League and further and further down to regional, semi-pro and amateur leagues. The point here is, even very small populations have a team representing them at some level.

And in the US, those increasingly smaller populations often have to turn to college sports to have a team representing them. Given that the smallest metro area in the country with a pro sports team still has over 400k people, what about the hundreds of other cities with considerable populations? Or even those with small populations?

College sports fulfill that role that lower league clubs in England fill. The reason the US doesn't just have more small-scale professional sports teams rather than college teams is because, well, money. Running a team, hiring coaches, maintaining a stadium - universities are really the only institutions able to keep up with all of that.

Remember how there are 32 NFL teams? Well, there are 673 NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) football teams, divided into 4 different divisions (Div. 1 FBS, Div. 1 FCS, Div. 2, Div. 3), and further divided into dozens of conferences. These teams range from the biggest college football programs, like Alabama and Texas A&M, to countless smaller schools. The University of Alabama, by the way, is located in Tuscaloosa, population just above 100k. Texas A&M is in College Station, population 120k. Clemson, South Carolina, home of the recent National Championship winning school of the same name, has a permanent population of less than 20k. That's smaller than Fleetwood, home of Fleetwood Town FC, which plays in England's 3rd tier of professional football.

College sports are so huge in the US because they fill what would otherwise be a massive void in sporting representation for hundreds of cities. Heck, there are entire states without a major pro sports team, like Alabama, that are instead represented by their college sports teams. Even Wyoming, the least populated state in the country, has a college football team in the top division of the NCAA.

College sports are essentially the US's lower leagues. And given that the US population is more than six times larger than England's, it makes sense that there are so many teams.

So the next time you are confounded by why so many Americans care about college sports, remember that for most cities in the US, college sports are all the representation they have.
