I should have known if I brought up wc I’d have to talk about. But it includes of a lot of issues with feral/furry designs that use feathers in hair. I don’t necessarily know why the conversation only started and stayed in the wc fandom when horse/wolf/lion feral fandoms are still doing the same thing.

Now having feathers in the design isn’t a racial attack first thing off because there’s a lot of context around what feather’s are used, the shape, and where they are placed. If the look is anything like "rave Coachella looking tribal fantasy feathers and beads" it’s probably insensitive. I’m not to sure why it has to be feathers, I honestly think the wc fandom are holding themselves back when it comes to forwarding designs in a unique way. Tail feathers are also left out in this conversation as well, one or two feathers or feathers in the shape of a birds tail are fine but bunched together feathers are leaning to close to how we have our horses wear feathers. This is in the context of the design already looking like a "medicine cat" already its bad. it’s like those yt girls wear feather head bands but animal addition.

I’ve talked about this before but silhouettes are so important, like Native American stereotypes are on the global scale you cannot escape this silhouette you just have to avoid it. There’s no "but it’s in so many other cultures" no it’s not it’s totally unique to our people that’s why people flock to it because it’s so "mysterious, sacred" whatever their weird twisted up reason is. There’s so many unique ways to break this silhouette you just gotta be more creative. And I feel like instead of being more creative and coming up with totally different ideas it’s just easier to lean on these visual native stereotypes to get across "wild mythical nature fantasy"

I could get into the horse fandom and the weird situations they’re doing over there but that’s another crazy thing. I should say because someone will ask, ostrich feathers on like show horses or knights or puss in boots style is fine not the same thing (breaking the silhouette) they’re not related.

And it comes down to understanding what you are drawing and where this imagery comes from, I’m not gonna get my feelings hurt because of your design but I’ll question why are you drawing stuff like that. You cant remove that cultural/stereotypical imagery, and if you don’t care about it then you don’t care about the history or how it looks on your character and art.

I made it this far on the internet but if you want to be conscious about these things good on yea it doesn’t take much☺️👍

Edit: can’t believe I gotta say this but yes other cultures utilize feathers, if people are using feathers that are used in their culture then don’t harass them. That’s weird have some common sense. Ostrich feathers, peacock feathers it’s actually so interesting how native birds to an area affect the culture there.

Another few pieces I'm bringing back for Nativetember is my take on Spider-Man and Venom!

After being bitten by a mutated spider born from toxic waste runoff from oil pipelines and chemical testing infringing on his tribe's land, highschooler John Peters develops fantastic powers in enhanced strength, speed, reactions, the ability to walk on walls, and a killer bite!

He decides to use all of these new skills and create the persona of Spider-Man to help protect his land and his family from the corrupt companies that would see them trampled over and destroyed

Included with his base costume here are his "Black Suit" as well as my take on Venom, who I'd also lore dump over but this post is long enough as is!

currently reading a book about yanantin and masintin in Peru, only about halfway through but it's been amazing so far. It's written like an academic text but in a conversational style if that makes sense?

Anyways, it's inspired me to make a video on the (seemingly) contradictory worlds of western academia and "Indianness" and how yanantin applies to them. I have a lot of information already and ideas I want to include. I'm hoping to get the research/script done before winter break is over and record/edit it when I'm back at school and have access to my computer

Other notes:

Jemima Szary’s degrees: She has two degrees, one in mass communication and another in biology. If because she wanted to be a marine biologist, inspired by her girlhood days being near the sea and her father being in the navy. She got sidetracked by her career in journalism, though sometimes her scientific training comes in handy when it comes to science journalism. Ever since she was a young girl, she has a habit of writing a lot and still does today.

She still has an interest in biology and especially marine biology from time to time, reading up on a variety of subjects such as whales and sharks. Much like her namesake character Jemima Shore, she’s also a good swimmer and this comes in handy when doing undersea expeditions with marine biologists. When her boyfriend Maurice Lu has the time to visit her, they go to ocean parks and the beach together. As his own uncle is a sailor, he relates to her pretty well here.

Brina Kranjec: An early character of mine who was created in 2010, I had plans of bringing her over to a possible new incarnation of Jojo (if it gets made to mark that franchise’s anniversary). But putting her into the world of superhero-detectives would do just as fine, she’s Romani but married to a non-Romani Slovene man, Matej Kranjec. I tend to imagine her as having short hair, initially a pixie cut but a quiff/bob would do just as good.

Her maiden name is Brina Šarkezija and she was Jemima’s teacher in university, so they met again in Canada and the latter’s astonished that she manages to look young for her age. She has a son named Damijan, who wants to be a cartoonist and she supports him a lot. A similarly named character showed up in the same year as she did but was the son of somebody else and also Jewish, though he eventually got a Gentile stepmum who’s also Brina’s friend.

Brina herself is a biologist, though one who specialises in forest animals.

Nootaikok Alakannuark’s and Akosamesew Kanewopasikot’s parents/families: Both of their mothers make a living from making and utilising fur garments, while their fathers are active in hunting and one of them is into whaling. This has unsettled their colleagues and even Jemima Szary to an extent, especially when it comes to whaling which’s enough to incence Nootaikok (on his father’s behalf). Then again Nootaikok often has quite a temper and gets offended easily over matters involving his culture being abused or misunderstood in some way, no wonder why he’s easily gets offended whenever she mispronounces Inuk words.

He even called her a hypocrite for objecting to whaling when she never gets so worked up over beef and pork, he has even slapped her in the face for mispronouncing his name and she’s wary of him ever since. Akosamesew is generally more patient with her but isn’t afraid to call out on her for her own ignorance about indigenous traditions, pronunciation and naming practises from time to time, given she barely had any experience with indigenous people until meeting the police and eventually dating Maurice Lu a lot. She even asked Akosamesew if he lived in a reservation, he said that he actually lives in the suburbs or probably a flat/apartment.

He does go to the reservation from time to time, giving money to his father and mother when he can.
